WIP game (part 2!)
Rules: You will be given a word. Share one sentence/excerpt from your wip(s) that start with each letter of that word.
I couldn't help myself so I'm taking @cerealboxlore's offer to jump in again since I had so much fun with the first one!
Word: MARVEL
M: "My hero," Lois smiled pulling him close and ruffling his hair.
"I thought Superman was your hero?" Billy teased.
"It's easy being a hero when you're bulletproof, but when you're a squishy little human like us, it takes guts." (One Last Chance)
A: A voice in his ear startled him, warm breath ghosting over his skin. âI could take out that gag and let you scream and scream and scream until your throat bleeds and your voice dies out. But no one would hear you. No one would suspect a thing." (Pretty Little Thing)
R: âRaising that many kids on your own,â he said, pausing as he looked for the right words, the right way to show his support of his teammate. Eventually he settled on keeping it simple. âThat must be hard. If you ever need anything, I hope you know Iâll always be just one call away.â (Family Matters)
V: âVasquez residence,â he said, his jovial tone jarring after the day Billy had had. He almost hung up right then and there, just so he didnât have to hear it again. (Pretty Little Thing)
E: Every book and TV show seemed to have a romantic subplot, every song was a love song, every interaction a potential meet-cuteâit was like the whole world was centered around something he couldnât comprehend. (Crush)
L: Looming in the darkness, where moments before Billy could have sworn there was nothing but shadow, was the Batman. (Marvels in Gotham)
This was so much fun, but it also reminded me just how much more I need to write lol. But needless to say I am more inspired than I've been in ages!
Feel free to ask me anything about my various WIPs, talking about them is a surefire way to make me want to write more!
Pretty much everyone that I can think of has been tagged in this by someone, so I'll leave it open for anyone to join in!
Your word is: HEART

I decided, apropos of nothing, to put on Joss Whedon's Zack Snyder's "Justice League" while doing some work today. I discussed the movie when it came out eleventy billion years ago, and thought it was fine. It's not good, but grading on the curve of every DCEU movie up to that point, it was a solid B-. Sitting in 2021, I remember bits and pieces of itâSteppenwolf looking like he stepped out of an XBox 360 cutscene, the decent cell phone video of Superman that was marred by the terrible attempt to CGI out Cavill's moustache, all the characters sounding like their rough counterparts in "The Avengers"âbut not a lot of details.
Obviously the intervening years have altered my perspective on the film, both through the revelations about the behind-the-scenes racism and abuse and through the fanatical and also frequently abusive behavior of the fans clamoring for this version of the film, which absolutely definitely existed and was finished years ago and also needed an additional $70 million dollars and reshoots to complete.Â
That perspective has not been altered for the better.Â
Against my better judgment, I'm going to watch the Snyder Cut sometime, probably this weekend, so I figured it'd be good to see how it deviates from the theatrical release, like I did for the Lester and Donner cuts of "Superman II" so very long ago. I don't expect to enjoy either one; my feelings on the superhero movies of Zack Snyder are well-documented, and even under the best circumstances, four hours is too @#%*$! long for a superhero movie. But four hours of nihilistic spite dressed up in cinematic deepities and CGI with a sepia-toned overlay is unlikely to be the best of circumstances.Â
Will it be better than two hours of the extremely generic re-skinned "Avengers: Age of Ultron" that got released to theaters? There's only one way to find out!
Boy, the New 52-ass character designs in the DC logo opening sure didn't age well. When was Rebirth, like, the year before?
Pretty neat that it's got Mogo and Jessica Cruz in there, though.Â
That cell phone scene was a lot better in my memory. Like, the kids with a podcast are kind of charming, but I remembered it being a good Superman moment, when it's really just kind of nothing. Certainly not enough to justify the extremely bad CGI. And is the negative space on the S-shield supposed to look so gray?
Gotham City looks like the background of a Robert Rodriguez movie, but I actually like it here. It feels grimy and a little uncanny, the way Gotham should. A big building with "JANUS" on it in glowing letters and big coal chimneys out of Victorian London are what I want to see in Gotham, along with copious brooding gargoyles and enormous iron statues of Greek gods that you could drive a car on.Â
A building that is continually being robbed by either Two-Face or Maxie Zeus
"Batman Forever," for comparison
Ben Affleck's Batman rasp is at least as silly as Christian Bale's. Batman can just talk in a voice, my dudes. I watched bits of "Batman & Robin" and "Batman Forever" to track down the right screenshots, and it's so much better when Batman is a guy with a deep voice rather than a guy who sounds like he's gargling gravel and sand.Â
The crook asking "where does that leave us?" because Superman's dead is a little weird given that Superman was a public figure in this universe for literally a year and a half. In 2021, it's a bit like asking how we could go on if Billie Eilish died, except Billie Eilish hasn't, to my knowledge, ever been involved in a fight that leveled a major city.
The maudlin mourning sequence probably should have come before Batman backflipped over a snarling Kirby monster and "Mindhunter's" Holt McCallany hopped around on a rooftop, because I laughed out loud at the unhoused person's "I Tried" sign and I do not think that was the intended reaction.Â
And then the Leonard Cohen cover gives way to the Danny Elfman score, and it sounds like "Batman" '89 again. God, this movie really is a mess.Â
I appreciate Wonder Woman explaining her powers like she's in a Chris Claremont comic. How long until we get a superhero movie with a proper reference caption? I just want to see a box in "Into the Spider-Verse 2" that says "*It happened in Spectacular Spider-Man #206, True Believers!"
I really wish superhero movies could stop having the scene where superheroes talk about how stupid superheroes are. It feels so self-conscious. Just embrace the concept without being ashamed of it, please.
I also wish we could have dialogue less on the nose than everything Henry Allen says. He talks exclusively in clichĂŠs about movementâ"running in circles," "standing still," "find your own path." We get it, he's talking to the Flash. Â
I keep forgetting that this movie is a fetch quest. It could have worked if we'd seen more than Themyscira before. This could be like that sequence in "Avengers: Endgame" where we go on a little memory tour of the previous films, but instead it's a return to Paradise Island, our first brief, boring glimpse of Atlantis, and a nuclear plant cooling tower. This is one of the problems with setting the "let's get the team together" movie before you've met most of the team or established most of the set pieces.Â
The boom tube effect is pretty good. It's a shame Steppenwolf looks so much like a character from a Zemeckis film. I do appreciate that Joss had enough restraint to avoid dropping "Magic Carpet Ride" or something when he showed up.Â
Fus roh dah!
Also, I realize the ship has largely sailed on this, but the Amazons are supposed to be an incredibly advanced society; maybe we could stop depicting them as exclusively armed with bronze-age weaponry.Â
You know, it's hard to see Lois Lane so...despondent? Demoralized? Even in the wake of Clark's death. Like, Lois was pretty weepy for a few issues of the comics after Superman died, but within two months she was accosting cops and breaking into Cadmus in a wetsuit and punching dudes in the teeth. Lois Lane is a stone cold badass, and the only film in this erstwhile trilogy that came close to understanding that was "Man of Steel."
The frustrating thing about the dialogue is just how obvious it is that Joss knows how to write exactly as many characters as are on the Avengers. Batman just sounds like Tony Stark, Wonder Woman banters like Black Widow until she needs to exposit like Thor, it's just so lazy.Â
And so is the backstory of the Mother Boxes. I actually really like the "all the races of man joined together with the gods and the Green Lanterns to repel Steppenwolf" angle, because it makes this idea of uniting as a League into a theme that you could build a movie around (that movie was "The Fellowship of the Ring"). Unfortunately, they do it by stripping the Mother Boxes of anything that made them interesting as a concept and turning Steppenwolf into a low-rent Thanos. Thanos is supposed to be a low-rent Darkseid, get it right.Â
I was going to rag on Bruce for comparing Flash's suit to "the space shuttle" in the present tense, when the space shuttle program ended six years before this movie came out, but I suppose Bruce Wayne is a cranky old guy in this movie, so it kind of works.Â
Man, poor Ray Fisher, in addition to everything else, having to read this warmed-over Bruce Banner dialogue.Â
Not gonna lie, hearing the Elfman Batman theme is pretty great. It's nice that Batman and Wonder Woman have really solid, recognizable motifs in the score, even if they had to reach back 30 years to find one for Batman. It's a shame the other characters don't get anything so clear and distinctive.Â
Casting J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon was a pretty good move.
Our first full glimpse of Cyborg is a bit uncomfortable. Up until this point, we've seen him in sweats, so seeing him without clothes...it's like that bit in "Cats" where Idris Elba takes off his coat and even though he's covered in CGI, you can't help but think "okay, he's naked now," a thought you only have because he was wearing clothes before.Â
Batman does his "disappear while Gordon has his back turned" bit, and it becomes a gag because only Flash is left behind. Except that we've seen that Flash perceives things at a higher speed than others, so why would he be caught off-guard? Wouldn't their disappearance have happened in basically slow-motion to him? Why did Wonder Woman and Cyborg disappear when Batman did? How did they know to do that? The only reason Flash is left behind is for the gag, because he's the comic relief character right now, but it would make more sense for literally either of the others to be the one in that position. It feels like a "kill your darlings" moment. Like, they decided that this gag was more important than making sense, when they could easily have done a different gagâlike Flash noticing that Batman was leaving and stopping him in the middle.Â
The Nightcrawler is a bad idea. It doesn't really make sense as the thing Batman would bring to this fight with Steppenwolf, and it's loaded up with guns, which...come on, guys. It doesn't even get a clear enough spotlight to be properly toyetic.Â
If you needed any confirmation that Joss saw how much better Quicksilver was in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" than in "Age of Ultron," the Flash is here in this battle to make it obvious.Â
God, the "Flash is awkward about being on top of Wonder Woman" gag feels like it lasts a thousand years. It's like something out of a "Big Bang Theory" episode.
It physically pained me to hear crappy Steppenwolf quoting New Gods #1.Â
I know there's pathos to Cyborg's character, but, like, is this really the version that they thought people wanted to see? Is this just the Brooding League? I thought a part of the reason for bumping Cyborg up to the big League was to bring in people who love the version on "Teen Titans," but there's nothing of that character here.Â
On the other hand, they've sidestepped the modern problem of making Barry Allen act like Wally West by instead making Barry Allen act like Bart Allen with a head injury.Â
I really like Bruce Wayne in a vest.Â
There's so many things that would have made this movie better, but honestly? I think Superman should've stayed dead. Obviously I love the character, and I even love Cavill's performance, but a movie about a superhero community coming together and being inspired by Superman's example to be betterâyou know, the thing Batman says at the end of "Dawn of Justice"âwould have been a lot better than a movie where two characters we just met dig up Superman's grave to MacGuffin him back to life. It still wouldn't make that much sense that Superman would have such a massive impact after just a year and a half of public superheroing (come on, Snyder, if you're going to do the Christ allegory, why not give him three years?), but it would have been a better way to showcase what the character means to this universe and to these characters.Â
This runs into something I said way back when I first saw "Man of Steel": You shouldn't make General Zod your first-movie villain. I've been comparing this film to "Age of Ultron" a lot, but I'm starting to realize that the entire DCEUâwith the possible exception of "Wonder Woman"âis made up of the second movie in each character's respective franchises. Zod should have been the villain Superman faced after he was established, to raise doubts about the character's allegiances and present him with a seemingly impossible threat. Batman should have fought Superman after a movie where we established what Batman's deal is, how he got to be so angry and bitter. The Justice League should have faced an enemy too big to fight without Superman after the movie where a threat and Superman's legacy inspired them to unite together. Heck, even "Suicide Squad" would've been better if they'd saved the "one of our own is a traitor" plot for a sequel, where we might have some emotional attachment to some of the characters.Â
Boy, Barry Allen attempting a fist bump with Cyborg and then laughing off the rejection with the phrase "racially charged" hits real bad in the wake of Ray Fisher's discussion about the environment on-set.Â
One thing to appreciate about Cavill's Superman is how much he exemplifies the hairy-chested, dimple-chinned version that Dan Jurgens draws.Â
And Elfman works the John Williams theme into the score. The motif works well the first time, less so the second when he's trying to kill the Flash. Hitting it in a more minor key would have been nice. Again, it's a shame they had to go literally forty years back in time to find a recognizable Superman theme when there were two Superman movies leading up to this.Â
This fight between Superman and the League is bad and unnecessary, but the bit where Superman reacts to Flash in super-speed is well-done, marred only by the incredibly doofy look on Flash's face.Â
God, Cavill doing the gravel-voice, asking "Do you bleed?" might be the worst part of this movie. Although Lois Lane entering the plot for the first time in an hour so she can say "the sun's gettin' real low" to Superman is a close second. Why isn't she involved in the formation of the League? Why wasn't she a major character in this?
Batman's "something's definitely bleeding" comedy bit feels like something out of a View Askew movie, and not only because it's Ben Affleck.Â
Clark's discussion with Lois, "it's itchy," it's yet another jarring tone shift from what we saw immediately before. And the greenscreen work on the farm (reshoots, I expect) is somehow worse than the moustache removal.Â
The bit with Aquaman baring his soul because he's sitting on the Lasso of Truth is the closest one of the comedy bits in this has come to actually working for me.Â
And then, adding to the "Age of Ultron" comparisons, we're back to fighting an enemy in a small Eastern European nation. The red skies are a nice touch. The Batmobile's 50-caliber cannon and chainguns, less so.
Did...did the Flash just say "oh snap"?Â
And Aquaman saying "my man" to Cyborg with the exact same inflection as Bradley Cooper in "Get Out" is another one of those real uncomfortable moments.Â
And then Batman gets a laser gun, because why not?Â
Superman asking "how can I help" and then rushing off to save civilians is maybe the best moment for the character in the entire DCEU. It's also nice that Superman gets a moment to help more or less each character with their individual missions.Â
And then Wonder Woman drops the "I work with children" line, which is the best line Black Widow gets in this movie.Â
Cyborg gets his "booyah" moment, which feels forced but at least makes some sense with his character arc. Flash gets his fistbump. Not-Sokovia gets to be the setting for a Jeff Vandermeer novel, and the team gets their triumphant moment in the sun.Â
We're on to denouement, and Lois gets the closing narration, which is mostly fine. It would work better if she weren't basically a cameo in the movie. I do like that it ends on "look, up in the sky," and that Cavill finally gets a chance to do the shirt pull.Â
Except that's not the end. First we get the beginning-of-credits scene with the Superman/Flash race, which is cute but unnecessary. And then a truly awful cover of "Come Together" before the post-credits sequence where Lex Luthor meets up with Deathstroke and his truly ridiculous dye job.Â
In summary, Joss Whedon's Zack Snyder's "Justice League" is a bad movie. In fact, it's several bad movies stitched together into a shambling bad movie Frankenstein. And tomorrow I'm going to watch Zack Snyder's Zack Snyder's "Justice League: The Snyder Cut," which is getting surprisingly positive reviews. I do not expect to enjoy it, because I really don't think my problems with this movie will be fixed by making it broodier and longer, and my track record with enjoying Snyder's films is basically nonexistent. But I'm watching it, because I'm a glutton for punishment, and at least if I do it while I'm still on vacation from Twitter, I won't be tempted to join in the undoubtedly toxic discourse.Â

Justice League Review & Recap (Warning: Get comfortable)
Soooo, if youâve ever visited my blog in the past, you know Iâm a DC comics fan. Iâm not anti-Marvel, mind you. But I love me some DC. With that in mind, itâs important to note that Iâm not your average DC fan or DCEU fan or DCtv fan. I tend to like a lot of things others dislike, and dislike a lot of things others like. Thatâs not me being contrary. Iâm pretty much that way about most issues in life â politics, music, travel, etc.Â
Iâm telling you this to prepare you for my fangirl rantings. You might agree with some of them. You might think Iâm loony about others. But understand, Iâm not trying to convince you to agree with me. Iâm simply expressing my opinion. I say nothing out of malice or a desire to run down someone or something any person loves. Thatâs not my style. Iâd rather spend my time gushing over the things that bring my life joy than dedicate a lot of time and energy to tearing down things that donât. (Case in point: I started typing a review of Thor: Ragnarok 2 weeks ago after I saw it, but decided not to continue and didnât post it.)
With that said, letâs jump right in:
Warning: Spoilers be below, so Iâm using a cut tag out of courtesy. And seriously, you might want to grab a snack because Iâm going all in. đ
If youâre looking for a mild or hate-filled review of the Justice League, you might want to stop now. I loved the film, and I already plan to buy it when it comes out on digital release. I currently own 2 DCEU films: Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Iâm attending the ACE Comic Con on Long Island in December, and I plan to see JL multiple times before then. Iâve already seen it twice. Iâm a fan. So if you were hoping for an all-negative review or youâre not interested in the details of what I liked and didnât like about the film, stop now.
Also, these points are not in chronological order of the film. Letâs do this:
What I Liked
Sassy Alfred is back! That dig about Bruce not dating was not missed, sir. Not missed at all. Alfred, never change.
Barry not knowing which direction was East = Me as a superhero! đđ
When we came back from the theater, BvS: Dawn of Justice was on HBO. Both my mother and I said we didnât even notice they put a photo of Pa Kent in the coffin with Clark at the end. So kudos to the continuity team for remembering to include it in Justice League. And shame on me for not noticing that before. Also, when the photo fell into the amniotic fluid during the resurrection scene, I canât help but think that was meant to symbolize Clark losing a valuable part of himself in the process of coming back to life. (But hey! I was an English major. I see symbolism everywhere.)
I respect the fact that the DCEU acknowledges all the advancements in the digital world we live in today, but Commissioner Gordon is still sticking with the tried-and-true analog Bat Signal with the lever and the thick wires and the sparks every time he needs to beckon Batman to a rooftop. Jim, never change.
The line:Â âYeah, somethingâs definitely bleeding.â - Batman (This was both funny and in character.)
I liked the subtle and not-so-subtle references to a world in a continual state of despair and upheaval littered throughout the film. We hear Alfred say, âI do not recognize this world.â And Ma Kent talks about having trouble even listening to the news anymore. I think someone else references the anger and bitterness thatâs around us everywhere we go these days. I know most of these scenes were filmed before 2 years ago, but I swear that dialogue could easily fit in with many of the statements I hear every day in conversations with my family, friends and people online. Once again, Snyder dials into that realism that makes the DCEU feel rooted in the world we live in today. Plus, Arthurâs recognition of âpeople who donât have anywhere else to goâ is a much appreciated acknowledgment of the current refugee crisis, but its done in such a way that it wonât feel dated in the future.
Billy Crudup delivers more in his two short scenes than most actors do in entire films. Heâs now one of the reasons Iâm really looking forward to the Flash solo film.
While Iâm handing out kudos for acting, I want to say Iâm proud of Ray Fisher and the job heâs done on bringing gravitas to Victor/Cyborg. I saw some DCEU-hater videos a few months ago imply that he might tank the film because audiences didnât know his work before JL, which is absurd. Most of us didnât know Hugh Jackmanâs work before X-Men, but we gave him a chance and now yâall crying over him leaving the role after Logan. Ray did a wonderful job conveying the struggle Victorâs going through without making us feel like we missed so much backstory we couldnât follow his emotional journey. He was the right casting choice.
I appreciated the Amazon fight with Steppenwolf to keep him away from the Motherbox so much more on the second viewing. The details, the logistics, the combat strategy were so much easier to take in once I knew how the battle was going to end. If you were like me and didnât quite grasp how well that was shot, please watch the movie again.
I really liked the end credit scene and the appearance of [REDACTED]! It was not the end credit scene I was expecting (the Trailer-bait scene with Alfred talking to someone off-screen was the one I wanted), but Iâm not mad. [REDACTED] is no manâs poor substitute.
Me learning new things: I never knew Supes was as fast as Barry. I knew they would race each other all the time, but I never knew he could literally see him moving inside the speedforce. Thatâs news to me, and it made that scene feel even more awesome!
Commissioner Gordonâs comment about the amount of structural damage Batman caused at the Gotham Harbor made me chuckle. I appreciate them hanging a light on that constant complaint.
Now, I, too, kind of want to know if Superman has ever fought a hippo. Iâm kind of mad Supes never answered that.
So glad I saw the film a second time because I completely missed the confirmation that the Lanterns helped defeat Steppenwolf the first time he attacked Earth. Diana said that nearby visitors from other planets helped them drive Steppenwolf into retreat, but I was too busy trying to take in all the details and I missed the oh-so-important green ring that falls off the guyâs finger. Lantern Corps confirmed!
I appreciated that Barry recognized that his attempt to get a fist bump from Victor could be considered racial charged. Thatâs why itâs nice when we see Victor finally giving Barry a fist bump at the end while the team looked out on the safeÂŽ nuclear power plant area.
I liked how they showed that Bruce does have bruises and gets hurt in his battles against the others. I know we didnât get to see much of it, but those bruises were important to his story and his journey, just as his comments about knowing he canât do this forever.Â
What I Loved!Â
Lois Lane is âthe Big Guns.â You damn right she is!!
Aquaman/Aquamomoa really was wielding that quindent like it was an extension of himself. He flipped that thing around like it was nothing. And knowing Jason like IÂ âdo,â he put a lot of work into making it look fluid as possible. Itâs kind of hard to miss with all the action on the first viewing, but when heâs fighting Steppenwolf alongside Diana, you can really appreciate how well he works the weapon to give himself a fighting chance with an enemy twice his size.
Diana calling Resurrected!Clark Kal-El. Bruce calling Resurrected!Clark Clark. This was me each time:
Absolute favorite scene: Everyone fighting Resurrected!Superman. Not only because itâs well done, but because of this: It did a great job of showing how much of a threat Supes is going to be in the future. He had just woken up from a dirt nap, so he was in no way running on all cylinders and they still couldnât really take him. Imagine how much of a threat Superman will be to the others when heâs at actual full power? Granted, Diana was holding back and Arthur was out of practice/rusty in the ass-kicking business, but even at their best, I think itâs clear theyâre not going to be a true match for Supes when he is at his best. That was a clever âsneak peakâ of a story to come.
Also, Superman catching Dianaâs arms before she can clash her bracelets together, then headbutting her. Then her headbutting him. Then him holding her wrists, raising in the air, and headbutting her into the pavement. That was so awesome! It made me suddenly want to buy the video game and pit Wonder Woman against Superman over and over again.
Loved the head-nod to canon about Batman already thinking of contingency plans should they not be able to control Clark once heâs resurrected.Â
Iâm extremely happy with the inclusion of Victor as the linchpin to defeating Steppenwolf. I know a lot of people questioned his inclusion as a member of the Justice League, but heâs honestly a great addition. Not only because of the Motherbox technology, but because of his understanding and access to digital technology. In 2017, the Justice League needs to have someone on the team who can handle the digital aspects of a fight. Maybe it wasnât as big of a component to fighting the good fight back in the 1980s, but it definitely is now. Cyborg is a perfect addition/update to the Justice League concept. It just works. Anyone still pushing back on this after seeing JL doesnât really have a solid argument.
Favorite Aquaman moment: When Arthur finally joins the fight and helps the team under Gotham Harbor. When he came in and used his quindent to hold the water back long enough for the others to escape⌠I damn near jumped out of my seat with applause. You go boy! Talks to fish, my ass!
I love a good argument. That is, when writers create an argument between characters where itâs difficult to choose a side, I love that! Thatâs why I love how Bruce shuts Diana down about her trying to tell him to move on after Clarkâs death. I understood her trepidation about using the Motherbox to resurrect Clark, but Bruce was 100% on the money when he said sheâs the last person to tell anybody they need to move on after suffering a loss considering how she shut herself off for almost a century after losing Steve Trevor. Sure, Victor calls Bruce an asshole, and Barry said that theyâd cover for Diana if she killed Bruce, but Bruce was still right.
This moment: Superman: âI knew you didnât bring me back because you liked me.â Batman, awkwardly stammering: âI donât ⌠not âŚâ
Everyone has a small character arc that doesnât get ignored at the expense of the action or storyline. I love it when storytellers do that! By the time the credits roll, 1) Diana learns to come out of the shadows and own her role as a hero. 2) Barry learns confidence in battle, even if he isnât as strong or as sure-footed as the others. Itâs clear by the end, he understands that his skills will come in time. Plus, friends. 3) Victor begins to see his condition/situation as something other than a curse, and we can see his relationship with his father start to mend. 4) Arthur starts to find his way back to interacting with the world as someone up other than an outcast from both sides of his family. 5) And, well, Clark comes back from the dead, and after letting off some steam, decides to forgive ⌠eventually. 6) Maybe Bruce doesnât have much of an arc since he spends most of the film trying to right a wrong he made, but I think thatâs enough on his plate for now.
The scene that tugs at my heartstrings the most: Bruce acknowledging to Alfred that the team needs Clark. And that itâs Clarkâs humanity that makes him remarkable. Not his powers. Not his abilities. The fact that he was willing to only use those abilities to help others, but also try to live a normal life with a job, a girlfriend and a desire to make the world a better place even without those powers is what made him special. I swear that whole speech just made me want to hug the writers.
One word: Booyah!
What I Didnât Like
No Perry. Not even a cameo. đŁ
Whereâs my Clark accepting Loisâs âYesâ for his proposal in absentia scene from the trailer?! Trailer-bait is mean, Snyder. Just mean. I donât know if this is Whedonâs doing, but ⌠yeah. Not happy.
Poor Barry tripping over his feet. đ I understand why itâs necessary to show him as a greenhorn, but it still makes me feel sad.Â
I did feel as if the pacing in the beginning was a bit rushed. It was as if they were really quick to jump into introducing the team/convincing them to join. But I chocked that up to the studio over-editing Snyderâs work again. And I quickly put it out of my mind about 15 minutes into the film. Like any good DCEU fan, I figure the directorâs cut will fix it, so Iâm not too bothered.
I know the Russian family of four was just supposed to represent the host of families that have sought out the nuclear power plant area for refuge, but are now in danger of getting killed in Steppenwolfâs wake, but constantly going back to that one family made me feel like they were the only family in danger. I think it wouldâve been more effective to include shots of a couple of other families bordering up their homes in fear of the parademons. Itâs not like they didnât have the budget.
When BvS came out, I said I think I wouldâve preferred a clean-shaven Bruce Wayne/Batman. I was wrong. He looks better with the stubble. Much better.
Barry was at the beginning of his journey, so I understand the use of humor to cope with his new situation, but sometimes I felt like he was a little too much comic relief. Not that it was out of character for him. He was/is a guy desperate to make friends, so keeping it light even in serious moments does kind of fit him at this stage. But it did sometimes feel a bit much. I mean he is still struggling to get his father out of jail, and trying to get his life on track. His joviality felt a little too much at times. I love his geekiness, but I donât want to see him not be taken seriously by the audience going forward. Hopefully, they will avoid that in future films.
The CGI for Victor looks brilliant, just like I said it would. I saw nothing wrong with it at all. It had weight and density. It appeared cutting edge without appearing unreasonably implausible. The complaints about it when the trailers came out were completely unfounded, just like I said. But ⌠the CGI on Cavillâs face sometimes looked ⌠no. Just no. That definitely couldâve been better. At times, he looked like his face was uneven in terms of depth. And others, he looked like his skin was too perfect. For a film with this budget and with their schedule, I expected better.
Unpopular opinion: Iâm still unsure about Amber Heardâs casting. Iâm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but based on the few films Iâve seen of hers in the past + the one scene she has in Justice League ⌠I do not feel hopeful. I mean when I compare Billy Crudupâs big scene with Amberâs scene, Iâm like, âHow did she get cast in this franchise?â Iâm on board with all the casting choices so far except hers. Iâm going to try to give her more rope, but Iâm not going to pretend to be a fan because other people are.
I still feel like people are going to walk out the cinema and go: âSo what can Aquaman do?â Itâs clear heâs strong, agile and fearless. And after bodysurfing a parademon through a building, itâs obvious he doesnât bruise easily. But I still think people are going to go, âBut what can he do?â We literally saw him use a quindent to hold back umpteen gallons of water, but folks are still going to talk trash. SMH. I wish the film did more to alleviate that prospect.
This, That & The Other
There was a lot more swearing than I expected. No judgment. It was just more realistic given the situations they were in, and since the general public seems to be bothered about the DCEU feeling realistic, it was more than I expected. I figured with all the clamoring to make things all light and bubbly as possible, swearing wouldnât be as much of an option for the franchise anymore.
That joke Clark made about wishing he were dead after helping rip apart the Motherboxes: Too soon! It honestly made me feel uncomfortable. Iâm still trying to unpack why, so I didnât include it with the things I didnât like in the list above. But honestly, it kind of deserves to be there.
Unpopular opinion:Â If they do bring in Green Lantern, I hope they choose John Stewart over Hal. If they go with Hal Jordan, everyone is going to compare him to Ryan Reynolds. Save us all from that unnecessary fandom war, and just go with John Stewart! Plus, you get to add another DC hero of color, and frankly, John was a better Green Lantern than Hal. Yeah, I said it!
I walked in to Justice League excited to see the upcoming origin films in this order: Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg. I walked out excited to see the origin films in this order: Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman. I still love Momoa, but Iâm actually more interested in seeing Barryâs origin story more now than Arthurâs.
Why couldnât Bruce just buy the farm back from the bank? Why did he have to buy the entire bank? Bruce is so extra.
To Sum Up/Overall:
I donât want my overall review of the film to be a reactionary one. By that I mean, Iâm not interested in arguing or refuting othersâ rumors, reactions or feedback. I feel like it taints the genuine impression I walked out of the theater with after seeing the film (both times). So Iâll say this:
I thoroughly enjoyed Justice League. Iâm not upset, aggravated or disappointed in any way more than I was after watching Batman v Superman. I donât think the film was as strong as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it was a good solid film about a team coming together for the first time who were in very different headspaces to fight an enemy who is the precursor to the ultimate Big Bad weâll see in Justice League 2. I thought the film did fine mixing heart, humor and story without sacrificing character development and purpose. It is not set up to deliver the same emotional impact as BvS, so I canât genuinely complain if it does not do that.
Iâm aware they had to, for lack of better phrasing, âdumb it downâ because so many people felt lost while watching BvS. I didnât feel lost watching BvS, but I respect the fact that not everyone is me, and I actually prefer films that donât insult my intelligence. BvS was the first â and frankly, only â comic book movie that hasnât insulted my intelligence. Justice League had to play to an audience that consists of more than just me so itâs structure is overly simple and easy to follow. Literally no one should feel like they didnât understand what is happening in this film.Â
Thereâs more humor, which is fine by me, but at times, it did feel out of place. That is not to say they arenât allowed to be making jokes, but it felt out of place because you can tell when itâs not Snyderâs âvoice.â And subsequently, it doesnât feel like Supermanâs âvoice.â But again, Iâm willing to overlook those moments because they were minor beats that didnât detract from the filmâs impression. Itâs like having a few scratches or dings in the bumper of a vintage Shelby Mustang cobra. You wish the scratches werenât there, but the car is still a work of art.Â
Thankfully, I saw this film with my mother. My mother is a lifelong comic book fan. (My stepfather is also, but he had to work and couldnât see it with us.) And Iâm very lucky to have her perspective on these films because as a hardcore comic book nerd who has a ton of knowledge of the DC/Marvel universes, but doesnât partake in any of the internet fandom infighting and overly dramatic social media scream fests, she allows me to see the film from the perspective of someone who just wants comic books to come to life on the big screen in an amazing way. She doesnât dig for slights. Sheâs not interested in one-up-manship. She wants all the films to do well, whether theyâre Blade, HellBoy, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avengers or Justice League. And I think some of us you who spend a lot of time on the internet supporting your fandoms need to have someone in your lives who can do the same thing for you. Seriously, some of the reactions Iâm seeing online are so tainted by this arbitrary competition and need to have everything âjust so,â I really think youâre missing out on the joy these films are meant to bring you.
Yes, Iâm excited to see the directorâs cut of Justice League. Yes, I prefer my Superman having a more time-realistic coping process after having been dead for so long. But that doesnât mean I canât enjoy watching a freshly resurrected Kal-El take down a not-quite-gelled team of superheroes without expending too much effort. Seriously, that entire sequence was fantastic and I will probably re-watch it multiple times. (Do I really just want to see other superheroes fight Superman? What does that say about me? Hmmm.)
Anyway, if I had to make a major gripe about the film is that itâs missing that âsomething.â That soul that Zack Snyder brings to this franchise. And by that I mean, Man of Steel feels like Zackâs movie. BvS feels like Zackâs movie. But Justice League, although primarily directed by Zack, doesnât quite feel like Zackâs movie. And I miss that. It works fine since this is the first time the team has come together and their still finding their rhythm, especially Arthur, Victor and Barry. But my hope is that by the time JL2 comes around, the studio will let Zack do what he does and give the film its soul.Â
The DCEU films work for me because they feel much more grounded in reality, which is the hallmark of DC comics (yes, even the Atom). And although there is some element of that in Justice League, it doesnât come across as well as it did in Zackâs other films. I can only assume itâs because the studio had him change certain details and the editing job Whedon did kind of imbued the film with a style that didnât quite gel with Zackâs. Donât get me wrong. Whedon can do realism, but his realism isnât the same as Zackâs, and I feel like Justice League should have Zackâs realism from start to finish (at least within the same film). Heâs the one who got us here, and heâs the one who will make it feel like its ours. Not the studioâs, if that makes sense.
No, the film wasnât perfect. But literally none of the comic book movies have been perfect, even the good Marvel ones. They all have flaws. But I donât need a film to be perfect to be a delight that I want to see over and over again. This film didnât need a lot of twist and turns. The most important takeaways are 1) bringing the team together, 2) resurrecting Superman, and 3) testing their mettle against an agent of Darkseid. And thatâs exactly what it accomplished. Was Steppenwolf on the same level as Lex Luthor? Hell no! But heâs not supposed to be. Steppenwolf is a club. Lex Luthor is a scalpel. Each film should have a villain that suits the desired outcome for the film itself.Â
No civilians were killed, which apparently is a thing people only care about in DC films, but conveniently forget about in Marvel films. The fight scenes were epic. There was no room for ambiguity. And we got to see a team go on their first full mission together and begin to recognize why theyâre better together than apart. Superman mightâve been able to defeat Steppenwolf on his own, but he didnât have the tech skills to do what they needed Cyborg to do with the Unified Motherboxes. We saw Batman save the Flash. We saw Wonder Woman save Aquaman. The Flash helped save civilians. Superman helped save civilians. We saw all of them handle themselves well, but not perfectly. And that to me is exactly what we were meant to see this time around.
I give the film a solid B+, but only because I suspect the directorâs cut will be an A-.
Thatâs it. The end.

Itâs one of those get to you know you tag/tell me about yourself thingies that I never do...
I get tagged in something like this periodically and I always ignore them. Â I value anonymity. Â I want my blog to be about the things I write and not about me as a person. Â But I also feel like Iâm a giant boring stick-in-the-mud because I so rarely play along. Â I donât want to be boring. Â I want to be cool and fun like @avvehâ and @ellieljadeâ who both tagged me in this. Â So for once, Iâm going to participate. Â
No complaining about how stupid my answers are!
How tall are you?
Tall. Â Taller than Jimin. Â Likely taller than Yoongi. Â But apparently, shorter than @avveh.
What color are your eyes?
Fun fact: Â I was born with brown eyes and they started changing color to hazel when I was in my teens. Â Apparently this is a thing that happens to about 10-15% of caucasians. Â The center 1/3 is brown but the outer 2/3 is green.
Do you wear contacts and/or glasses?
Yes.
Do you wear braces?
I had them as a kid. Â
What is your fashion style?
I donât know what you would call it. Â Plain-ish? Comfortable? Flexible?
I tend to go for simple styles with interesting lines and decent fabrics. Â A plain black tee-shirt but with an asymmetrical neckline. Â A plain white jacket but with interesting details at the seams. Â A simple sheath dress but with a zipper in a contrasting color or an unusual hemline. Â Things like that. Â More often than not, Iâll be wearing jeans, a plain tee or knit top, with a jacket or cardigan over it and flats in a contrasting color, plus jewelry. Â I tend to invest a lot in bangles, cuffs, and necklaces.
When were you born?
In the spring!
How old are you?
Older than Jin. Â Younger than Betty White.
Do you have any siblings?
Yes.
What school/college do you go to?
School is a distant memory.
What kind of student are you?
I was a pain in the ass student, probably.  Some teachers loved me and others outright hated me.  I questioned and debated everything.  I was lazy, but smart and creative enough to pull out decent grades without putting in as much effort as I should have.  In university, I tended to do better with the more difficult classes because I like being challenged intellectually, so I would work hard in those classes.  If it was an âeasyâ class, I often just wouldnât bother showing up or wouldnât bother to do my homework (not a good thing, FYI!  In real life,  you have to still do the work even when you think something is stupid.  I would have benefitted from learning that life lesson a little earlier.)
What are your favorite subjects?
I loved English and French class. Â I like languages. Â I like words. Â I like reading and analyzing the message behind the written word. Â I like figuring out exactly the best way to convey my thoughts and ideas.
What are your favorite movies?
I love old movies.  Grease, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Singing in the Rain, Pretty in Pink.  Anything from the 1930â˛s-1940â˛s, especially if it has Cary Grant or Myrna Loy -- or one of the movies they starred in together like Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer, or Mr. Blandings Builds his Dreamhouse. (Iâm serious -- go watch these!)
What are your favorite pastimes?
Eating and watching YouTube videos. Â Oh, and hanging out on Tumblr.
I also like traveling, but havenât been able to do much of it lately.
Do you have any regrets?
SO MANY REGRETS!  Honestly, I have more regrets than is healthy.  And every single one of them is the result of me NOT doing something.  I regret not breaking up with the boyfriend that I knew was bad for me because I was too afraid to be alone.  I regret not confessing my feelings to a close friend before he ended up finding the woman he would eventually marry.  I regret not being more adventurous and going to more parties and pushing my boundaries further.  I regret spending too much time being afraid or trying to be âgoodâ and not just living in the moment.
What is your dream job?
Retired billionaire.
Would you like to get married?
This question gives me anxiety. Â
Do you want kids? How many?
I thought I might want them. Â But it looks like this is not an option for me. Â I donât like talking about this. Â Sometimes what you want and what you get are not the same thing and thereâs no point in belaboring the issue. Â So moving on...
How many countries have you visited?
8 that I have legitimately visited. Â But if Iâm allowed to count the time I took a train that passed through Belgium and the time I had a 6 hour layover in the Coppenhagen airport... then 10!
What was your scariest dream?
I dreamed I was a slave in an Egyptian or Incan (who knows - it was kind of a combo deal) palace complex. Â I had to get up at dawn, when the rooster crowed, and rush out of my room to the Kingâs room and wake him up and escort him to a special room and then lock him inside the room for his safety. Â And then I had to rush to the Queenâs quarters and wake her up and rush her to a different room and lock her inside for her safety. Â And then I could run back to my own room to try to lock the door before it was too late, but as I was closing my door, someone was pushing from the other side. Â I had been too slow to save myself. Â Eventually, after struggling with the door, the person on the other side overpowered me and the door flew open and a man in a chicken costume came into my room while I cowered in terror. Â The end.
I actually used to have a lot of recurring nightmares about trying to shut a door to protect myself or others from invaders and having someone on the other side pushing back so I couldnât close it.
Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend/SO?
Nope. :-(
Put your phone on shuffle and, without skipping, list the first 15 songs.
1. Â Dinosaur - AKMU
2. Â Heartbreaker - G-Dragon
3. Â Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac
4. Â Nalina - Block B
5. Â Try It Again - The Hives
6. Â This Is How It Goes - Billy Talent
7. Â Daisy - Wavves
8.  Gaeko - Rhythm is Life ë ëëĄ ëëźęł í´ ( ëë so good)
9. Â In Bloom - Nirvana
10. Â Youâll Find a Way - Santigold
11. Â Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb

Twin Peaks Part 14 Coffee Time
Well here we are we are now 4 hours away from twin Peaks finishing âthe returnâ story, the pile driver punches just keep coming.
So the episode kicks off with Cole calling the sheriffs department in Twin Peaks he is returning Frank Trumanâs call, Truman is providing Cole information on the missing page of Lauraâs diary. There a wonderful little scene between Lucy and Cole. I can only imagine was Lucy and Andyâs trip to Bora Bora would of been like.
We stay with Cole and the team for an explanation of the first Blue Rose case
Olympia, Washington, 1975
2 field agents investigate a murder in Olympia, Washington. (Cole and Jefferies)
They arrest Lois Duffy at a motel.  They kick the door in after hearing a gunshot, there are 2 women inside. One on the floor dying the other holding the gun then drops it whe  the agents entewr
The wounded women is Lois Duffy on the floor she speaks
âiâm like the blue roseâ and then smiles then dies and disappears
The other woman is also Lois Duffy she doesnt have a Twin sister Albert comments.Â
While awaiting trail Lois Duffy swears she didnât commit she hangs herself.
Tammy is asked what question should she ask she returns withÂ
âwhats the significance of the blue roseâ
âblue rose does not occur in nature its not a natural thing, the dying woman was not natural, conjured, Â whats the word a tulpaâ
Tulpa (Tibetan: སྤྲུལŕźŕ˝, Wylie: sprul-pa), nirmita (Sanskrit: निरŕĽŕ¤Žŕ¤żŕ¤¤), or thoughtform, is a concept in mysticism of a being or object which is created through spiritual or mental powers. The term comes from Tibetan "emanation" or "manifestation".
âGoodâ Albert retorts.
This scene plays out very much like X files, so its probably why I liked it so much, The tulpa has also appeared in X file law in season 6â˛s Arcadia (the one where Mulder and Scully play house) and in season 10â˛s home again (the band aid man)
Cole enters the room with his thumbs up  Coffee time
Diane is on her way but before that we get the window cleaner, Moving on quickly...
Then we get the bombshell, On the last night that Diane saw Cooper did he mention Briggs Cole asks, she doesnât want to talk a bout that night, but Cole pushes her. She confirms that he did, Albert then spells out what has happened to Briggs and the ring that was found
The next part I was shouting at the screen over and over again in Doctor who fashion.
Dianeâs half sister is Janey-E and is married to Douglas Jones everyone calls him Dougie. Shes estranged but last heard they were in Las Vegas.
So my initial thought straight away hit me, Cole Albert and Tammy have now asked about Vegas, Diane got that text basically asking as much, We donât know which side of the fence she is sitting on but she did seem genuinely shocked when they asked about Janey-E could it be that things are starting to make sense to her now the pieces are falling in line?
Cole calls the Vegas office there are 23 Douglas Jones in the area, (why did they not mention Janey-E is anyones guess surely that would of narrowed the search a bit.)
âHow are we going to find the right oneâ
âWILSON HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU THIS IS WHAT WE DO IN THE FBIâÂ
Brilliantly funny my x file fandom also struck a chord albeit in a slightly different way.
ââThats why they put the I in the fbiâ Xfiles pilot.
So were no more than 15 minutes in wow, so much stuff to mull over already,
After Diane leaves we get Cole bringing everyone up to date with the missing pages of Lauraâs dairy, with the revelation of 2 coopers but after Coleâs first case I can see now why this may be more low key than I imagined it to be, A footnote in another Blue rose case. There are 2 coopers we now know what we are dealing with, but suspicions were probably already there this acts more of a confirmation to them,Â
Monica Bellucci dream, âOh boyâ Albert sighs and Tammy... well her look sayâs it all.
So the dream:
Paris Cafe, the music is deliberately tense and suspenseful. Cooper was there but no face could be seen only his chin,Â
Monica was pleasant and had brought friends. While having a Coffee Monica quotes the phraseÂ
âWe are like the dreamer who dreams and then lives inside the dream, .... but who is the dreamerâ
Monica looked beyond Cole while he was feeling VERY uneasy. As he looks back we see scenes from Fire walk with me.
Cooper says it 10:10 February 16th. Cooper was worried about the day because of his dream, Jefferies appears and points at Cooper askingÂ
âwho do you think that is thereâ
Cole and Albert both hadnât remembered that. Its seems to be a running theme I am picking up on at the moment. more on that later.
I donât want to theorise too much but dreams are a kin to the lodges, are we seeing a guiding force to the final act or a we seeing some very timey wimey stuff going on.
So back in Twin peaks the boys are getting ready to go into the woods, sandwiches are laid on the table and Andy is having just cheese, Reinforcing the fact that he is a simple standard guy very plain non corrupted. well thats the way I see it especially with what happens shortly,Â
They arrest Chad and I can pretty much imagine the whole fandom punching the air, screaming yes. I did. I can only assume that because they all were leaving for the mountain that they wanted him out the way now.
Up in the mountain I had a very uneasy feeling, we had the hum but we also had Andy at the back and a bit behind them in a couple of scenes while they are walking, it gave us milliseconds extra screen time but it did feel like something was about to happen.Â
The listening post is gone Bobby remembers lots of machines and then we arrive Bobby laughing on seeing Jack rabbits palace. One thing to note hereÂ
The pan up the trunk is VERY reminiscent of the purple place before we see the Giant/Fireman and the birth of the golden Laura Orb.
253 yard due east with soil in their pockets we find Naido, Andy comforts her a vortex appears and he ends up sitting across from what we now know is the fireman. Andy is basically shown the entire history of the twin peaks story the explosion, Convenience store, GOTTA LIGHT, Lauraâs death, Coopers ganger and even some future events (Lucy being shown something by Andy it would be funny if this was only a self fulfilling prophecy and there is nothing to the scene whatsoever ) Also included is the post where the kid got killed and the number 6 I have a feeling this post has been in the show before iâm guessing fire walk with me but not sure.
I feel that Andy must of been picked as he like cooper is not corruptible he is pure, plain like the sandwich no additions just who he is.
We return to planet earth, Andy is as confident as we have EVER seen him, he now has a purpose and he will do everything he can to complete his destiny. Naido must be protected and no one must know where she is.Â
Truman and Hawk are struggling to remember what happened, its a running theme throughout then whole show with Cooper, Cole, Diane, People in the bar, anyone who may of been close too or in contact with the otherworldly beings or supernatural vortex's etc,Â
We get an Andy and Lucy scene in the cells, a dog got lost and Lucy must have stayed the night Andy remembers that night too, Please donât tell me Wally was conceived there Ha Ha.
Chad gets a lecture from Andy and we get a really bizarre guy mimicking everything, With blood or some other substance coming from his mouth, its a genuine WTF moment. I need to know more.Â
We find ourselves at the Great northern with Freddie cracking nuts with his distinctive green glove and finding out its James birthday.
It appears James is after another married woman (sighs), Renee, could that be the girl who was at the bar when he was singing. Also I have had the thought that is this scene prior to our first bar scene, James doesnât know who is on. Surely you would know if Lissie was on? No?
We then get the green glove Iron fist story, Where did he start bleeding? it must of been terrifying to the doctor  We also hear a lot of what the fireman had said, he has never spoken so much (off screen obviously), Freddie says London Town, when was it last called London Town the Victorian ages?? The fireman tells him that he will possess:
âthe power of an enormous pile driverâ we get the Jobsworth story and the cockney slang (iâm not a fan) of snapping his Gregory, (Gregory Peck=Neck), There is also a red card metaphor just in case you didnât realise he is English, The fireman tells him to go to Twin Peaks to for fill his destiny.
James heads down to the furnessâs we get the same noise down hear from up above in Ben's offices and a door, The whole scene seems to call back to Bob we see him in an area very much like this one i think in Fire walk with me if memory serves me right.
SOOOOO we come to Sarah Palmer, I can only guess it leads on from her boxing scene, no more drink needs one goes to bar.Â
An obnoxious guy tries to hit on her, which turns out to be a HUGGE mistake, once Sarah takes off her face we get spikes clawing out of her face a hand which has a blackened spirit finger (as discussed on the plane by Cole to Tammy) and then a smile worthy of the cat from Alice in Wonderland, once the face is back on we get a devastating chomp on his neck. Is Sarah aware is she possessed or is she in complete control, does she have that creature in her from episode 8, is it as i have been educated recently Babylon from the box has it taken her over, Is it even Sarah soo many questions its left deliberately ambiguous. Her final remarks, âsure is a mystery huhâ is just chilling.
So we are back at the bar another 2 random people talking about getting high, (Twin peaks seems to have a really big drug problem), Then we come to Billy, This girl is supposedly the last one to see him, she goes on to tell the story in the kitchen she thinks her uncle was there she is not sure, Billy jumped over a 6ft fence got into the kitchen blood coming from nose and mouth, heâs looking really strange, they donât tell anyone? (did they remember it at the time my guess is it just left there mind as these things keep happening.) and we also find out that he has been having a relatioship with her mom TINA, The moment we get her name ominous music comes over.  The girl looks down and then asks âand then he just ran out againâ its almost as if the previous question didnât happen like she forgot, its all links in thematically. She also now doesnât know if her uncle was there, where as before she thought he was.Â
There are Probing questions here âhave you seen Billyâ
âive heard you were the last person to see Billyâ
âWhats your moms nameâÂ
All these questions feel deliberate the others are lighter in tone.Â
To me this probably was the most intriguing part of the whole episode. what an episiode it was.
Who is Billy? Is he having multiple affairs, Audrey, Tina etc, Whoâs the dreamer, Is it Cooper, Is it Audrey in a COMA, Whats that thing in the CELL near Naido and Chad? Whoâs after Naido is it the experiment? Whats happening with Sarah? Is she polar opposite to Laura now? Is the fireman creating a force to protect the white lodge? There is a plan in place it seems.
We have a lot to get through in 4 hours, and its going to be glorious.

A Matter of Trust
This is admittedly not very good, but it's here and I wrote it. Almost 2,000 words of the League sitting around chitchatting. Honestly it was an excuse to put some of my thoughts on Billy into writing. But I promised a fic so here it is, enjoy all the talking.
It had been a long, exhausting mission but eventually, the Justice League had emerged victorious. But after almost three days of battling and strategizing and being away from the Earth, the Team was starting to feel the strain. Currently they were crashed on the Watchtower hovering far above the planet to debrief and destress before returning to their homes.
âYes, Iris, Iâll be home today. In fact Iâll be in time for dinner so be sure to make plenty. Okay, I love you honey, see you soon. Bye.â Barry says into his cellphone, before hanging up and looking fondly at his phone for an extra moment before tucking it into his suit. Beside him, Hal smiles and gives his friend a light punch in the shoulder.
âYou and Iris are so cute; youâre making all us single guys jealous.â He teases, giving a warm glance at the others around the table.
âIâm happily taken myself,â Clark says warmly, looking into his coffee reminding himself to call Lois soon.
âMe as well,â intoned Arthur echoed.
âSteve and I are content,â Diana answered proudly.
âI am happy as I am,â Jâonn responded with a small, sad smile.
âIâve got enough trouble with the boys.â Bruce says tiredly from the counter as he pours himself some coffee. It had been a long couple of days and the lighthearted, casual conversation was nice after so much noise and destruction from the averted invasion. Theyâd all make their way to their homes soon, but for now, this was enough.
âLooks like Iâm all alone in the lonely hearts club,â Hal moans in exaggeration, âI wonât even bother asking you Cap, I bet the girls love your âaw shucksâ charm.â He said, shooting a grin over at the Worldâs Mightiest Mortal who hasnât really participated in the conversation and was instead dreamily staring out the window as the inky black sky. âCaptian?â Hal repeats, finally grabbing the manâs attention only to find the entire League looking at him. âYou okay there bud?â
âOh me?â Marvel says shyly rubbing the back of his neck. âIâm fine, just feeling awfully tired. Iâm not used to staying like this for so long, Iâm feeling kind of drained.â He said leaning on his hand. âI think this is the longest Iâve ever been Cap in a row, last time was only a day and I slept so long afterwards, nearly 8 hours.â The League exchanges curious looks with each other, Captain Marvel was notoriously close-lipped about his other life. Despite the fact that everyone elseâs identity was out, he had refused to share his name. This was the most theyâd ever heard about the man and his powers.
âYou know,â Hal begins slowly and cautiously, âEight hours is the normal amount most people sleep.â
âWow, really? All at once?â Cap says blinking lazily and grins when Hal nods.
âThat sure must be nice, some people have a lot of time on their hands.â Clark shakes his head in confusion; he doesnât even know what to make of that weird statement but heâs more interested on another point the Captain had brought up.
âYou mentioned that you donât always stay in that form. I just assumed thatâs what you looked like and you just changed costumes.â Captain Marvel sat up a little straighter as he realized heâd let more slip than intended and searched for a way to explain that he wasnât always a 7 foot tall god without giving away that he turned into an eleven year old homeless kid.
âNo, my magic gave me this body so I can use my powers. When Iâm not being Cap, I change back into regular me, sort of like a transformer.â He smiles and is rewarded with warm smiles back which is always the best part of League. Itâs nice to have people smile back at you instead of cursing and pushing you aside. âI think, I donât actually know what a transformer is.â
âSo we donât actually know what you look like?â Barry asks curiously, âdo you look much different normally?â Cap bites his lip and begins twiddling his thumbs.
âOh you know some things are the same but there are a lot of differences too. Iâm uh not as tall when Iâm just me, not as big either.â Diana reached over and rested a hand on his wrist as he kept fidgeting with obvious anxiety.
âIt does not matter who you or what you look like outside of your costume. We know you to be strong, honorable and courageous in battle. You only need disclose what you are comfortable with, you are our friend and comrade, we trust you as you are.â Captain Marvel looked down at the hand before turning back to Diana with a bright smile that seemed to light up the whole room.
âAw thank you Miss Prince, that means an awful lot.â Diana smiled back and patted his hand again.
âI understand it has been a long couple of days for us all,â Bruce said interrupting the touching scene. âWeâre all finished up and youâre all free to leave. Iâll be heading back to the Manor shortly myself.â He turned subtly towards the magic user. âYouâre welcome to stay up here a little longer Captain; your quarters are fully equipped with a shower, television and other domestic comforts. Youâre the only one who hasnât utilized it.â
âAw man you havenât crashed here yet? Iâm half tempted to move in; Bat Wayne spared no expense on our rooms.â Hal chimed in enthusiastically, âcomfiest bed ever and the shower is to die for, I never want to get out.â The Captain again looked dreamily out the window.
âBoy, I canât even remember the last time I was able to shower,â he said with quiet awe once again questioning what sort of home life their mysterious Captain had. The more he said, the more they realized it probably wasnât as ideal as theyâd imagined. âBut I donât know,â the Captain sighed. âIâd have to change back with you all here.â
âCome on Cap, weâd respect your privacy, you can trust us.â Barry adds in with a soft, friendly voice also picking up the uncomfortable vibes.
âIâve never had anyone in my life I could trust,â Captain Marvel responds calmly, with a light shrug as if he didnât consider his answer to be anything out of the ordinary. Barry rubbed at his face to keep himself from speaking, maybe offering his friend a room in his house and people to love him. Clearly there was more going on here than anyone was aware. No one imagined how deep the manâs deceptively shallow, open waters really were.
âThatâsâŚâ Arthur began before reconsidering himself and continuing. âYouâre our friend; youâve fought beside us for nearly a year. Why donât you think you can trust us?â The Captain looked down and drew small circles on the table.
âEveryone always wants something, you just gotta figure out what it is.â He looked up suddenly with a guilty expression, âI donât think itâs that way with you guys itâs just, well, I donât think youâd like me very much outside. Iâm uh, not what youâd expect. You might even kick me out.â
âYou can trust me,â Bruce said once again cutting through the tension. âI already know your identity and I still like you.â He said casually as he sipped more of his coffee. âIf youâre ever interested, I could give you some help with Mr. Ebenezer.â Captain went ramrod straight, staring at the Dark Knight with wide, fearful eyes. âDid you think Iâd let you join if I didnât have a basic background on you? If it helps, you were difficult to pin down. It took me months to find you, more to get any relevant information.â
âAnd you let me stay?â Captain Marvel, Billy, said, standing up quickly and leaning forward on his hands over the table. The air was tense but Batman was calm as always.
âOf course, Captain. Youâve more than proven yourself a reliable ally and a good friend. I will admit I have my concerns but youâve handled them thus far. Of course, Iâm willing to lend aid should ever you need it. Well will always support you if or when you ever decide to come forward with your life. Iâm told thatâs what being on a team is all about.â Very slowly, Captain cracked a smile and the air became much lighter.
âAw Bruce, you do care about us.â Clark teased, leaning back in his chair to look at the human. Bruce leveled him with an annoyed glare.
âWell,â Barry said sunny standing up and stretching. âIris is waiting for me back at the ranch and I am not going to be late for dinner. Itâs been real, but Iâll catch you guys later.â Arthur nodded and stood up as well.
âMera is probably expecting me back as well; she gets bored running Atlantis without me.â
âLois too,â Clark added, finishing his off the last of his coffee. âWell not the bored part, Iâm sure sheâs gotten into plenty of trouble while Iâve been gone.â
âAnd Iâm,â Shazam began quietly as he stood up with his comrades. âIâm going to take a shower and maybe sleep for a bit before heading back to Fawcett. It um,â Billy ducked his head and rubbed at his neck. âIt would be nice to have some place to sleep safely every once in a while.â The remaining Leaguers smiled as Marvel backed up slowly to the door. âSo, safe trip home everyone and thank you again for your support. Iâll just leave now.â He said, ducking around the corner out of the kitchen. They all exchanged proud glances before Cap popped his head back in. âAlso youâre going to hear a loud lightning bolt, thatâs normal. I donât think itâll damage anything up here just uh yeah, wanted to let you know so you wouldnât scared or anything.â He began, mumbling more and more with each word.
âAlright Captain, we understand. Thank you for your consideration, have a nice evening.â Diana said graciously causing Marvel to grin one last time before disappearing for good. Hal gave them all a look and let out a breath.
âNever have picked that guy to have skeletons in his closet, heâs about has happy go lucky as my 10 year old neighbor.â He muttered as, true to form, the sound of lightening briefly resounded through the Watchtower before quieting down. âWhatâs a guy like that have to hide?â
âWe all have our scars Jordan,â Bruce answered, âwhen Marvel is ready maybe heâll share some of them with us. For now, we keep our distance and offer support.â
âEasy for you to say since you apparently have known for a while now,â Clark commented, standing up and stretching his back out. âAnything important we should know?â Bruce turned his eyes from the group, contemplating once again if it was worth the Captainâs trust to tell the secret heâd unwillingly kept. The secret that one day might end up getting the boy killed. But theyâve come this far, he couldnât back down now.
âYouâve worked with him and you know what kind of person he is. That should be enough for now, until then, I need to return to Gotham to make sure the Manor hasnât burned down in my absence.â The League laughed as they wrapped up their conversation. A few doors down, a painfully skinny boy was just stepping into his first hot shower for months. Moaning with contentment, he wonders to himself if maybe he wasnât being fair to the League. Maybe, just maybe, he had finally found people he could trust. But heâd think about that later, after this amazing shower and crawled into the bed that looked like a cloud. Yes, things might finally be looking up for one Billy Batson.
