update on the fire emblem playthrough! i've just started part two and let me just say. absolute ROLLERCOASTER of emotions since my last ask omg. i did manage to recruit the non-eagle characters i was most interested in (marianne, ingrid and felix. also i forgot to mention in my first ask but sylvain is also there since he was. easy to get). sadly i didn't manage to get raphael who was my next pick, probably because i kept accidentally skipping time (skipped a whole month by accident, and then later skipped a day of exploration without training bc edelgard asked me to come with her. and if i'd had that one day of training i would've gotten him too!! im so salty..) </3 living a sad raphael-less life now.

currently my absolute favorite is dorothea and it's kind of killing me that i'm not gonna romance her this playthrough (because i've gotta go with edie.) next playthrough however.....

i also still really love bernie and caspar those are my besties. i never disliked hubert but he's really grown on me. OH and i didn't even MENTION petra in my first ask which should qualify as a crime. i love her so much.

as for the other eagles, i still like them! i feel like i've already listed most of the eagles hang on who's even left.... linhardt and ferdinand. yeah they're chill! not on the same level as the rest of the eagles to me, but i do still like them.

and as for the recruits from other houses, marianne is definitely up there! although i feel like you have to work a little more to get to know the characters you've recruited from other houses, and the only one i've really gotten to know is sylvain. who i do like, honestly, but he just can't compare to the majority of the eagles lmao.

even though it's like... abundantly obvious by the rest of my ask. i did end up siding with edelgard. uhhhh other story related thoughts hmm.. OH jeralt's death was really sad.

idk i'm having fun!! still enjoying the combat, still enjoying the life sim, and still enjoying the overall plot. excited to see what happens next! LMAO this ask is mostly just me listing all of the characters i like and not much else whoops.

This is a Rant About Fire Emblem Three Houses

So I finally finished all three main routes: Black eagles, blue lions, and golden deer. In that order. Now I can finally confidently say that the blue lions route is the worst, and black eagles and golden deer are tied for me. (Yes I am aware there’s a church route, but well).

I can also confidently say that Edelgard was fucked over, bad. There is literally no excuse for her route to be shorter. All they had to do was use the Shambalah and Nemesis fights, from a different POV.

Golden Deer and the Blue Lion route share so many similarities in maps and chapters, so that clearly wasn’t the problem.

Imagine if you will, you capture Rhea, after that final battle, she’s gravely injured, but once she learns your goals she reluctantly agrees to help you and tell you about those that slither in the dark and her real past. Her side of the story, which Edelgard has never heard. There’s a great scene where Edelgard expresses her sorrow for Rhea, but insists what she’s done was still the right thing to do, the people of Fodlan deserve to live free and create thier own destiny. She rescues you after Shambhala is destroyed because you house the soul her mother (don’t worry the heart still breaks, just during the final fight with Nemisis). It’s really good and a complete route that gets the same level of care the other two(three) are given

But, no, instead they have her route be shorter than all the others and leave her confrontation with those slithering folks for a line in the epilogue. When that confrontation is so central to her and her motivations, and the story of her route. When they literally already had the assists to not fuck her over.

And let’s remember this is on top of you being able to betray her, something you cannot do for either of the other lords.

Edelgard was done so, so dirty.

And you know what, the fandom has done her dirty too. No doubt if she had been the angsty Disney prince she(he)’d be the darling child of tumblr. And if Dimitri had instead been the female lord people would have been bitching about how boring his(her) route was, what an awful leader he(she) was, and rightfully so. The blue lions route was so, so tedious. I’ll be honest I hated it.

Also as an aside, I hate how the golden deer route really shoehorns you onto being worried about Rhea, like man, give me the option to say ‘ew she’s wierd and I only want to find her so you can have answers Claude’ or, you know, the chance to react badly to the fact she was trying to wipe out your consciousness, despite having the time to have gotten to know you and realize you’re a person. Bad look Rhea.

And like, i know y’all love to call Edlegard a fascist but uuuuh, why when you have Rhea, like, right there.

Founds a church dedicated to worshiping her mom, herself, and her siblings? Sets up and maintains an incredibly unfair power structure that benefits her? Enforces her power with the death penalty? (Sure she doesn’t enforce it on an individual level, but she sure as shit does it on a systematic level). Creates an atmosphere where outsiders are feared and hated? Manipulates all politics? Rules through a cult of personality?

Mhmmm.

Let me tell you, when I realized during the black eagles route i was going to get to fight the church, I was ecstatic. It was total wish fulfillment. I have no problem with personal belief. Yet, if someone started a war that would rid the world of oppressive organized religion? Here, in the real world? I would be hard pressed to find fault with that as a goal. And Just so there’s no confusion I 100% mean Christianity and Catholicism.

Look man, all I’m saying is that if Edelgard skeeves you out but Rhea doesn’t, I’m very confused. Maybe it’s because the game goes out of its way to try and shove liking Rhea down your throat and make her sympathetic. I just found her creepy.

One final thought; Nonmayter what your favorite route or if you like her or not: Edelgard was a necessity. Maybe less so on the blue lions route, since it’s so obsessed with keeping everything as it was, but Those grand scenes of Claude’s? Yeah, more than likely without the chaos of the war and the instability it brought they never would have succeeded. More than likely he would have been run out of Fodlan or killed as heretic by Rhea.

Ok, ok I’m done.

what really annoys me about edelgard and her "relationship" with ingrid is that he could have made it way less icky and cheaty with one simple trick: follow canon and have byleth and edelgard not be together before the timeskip.

like if edelgard is in love with byleth, maybe she's sort of aware her feelings are requited, but they haven't talked about it yet, there's nothing solid, and now byleth is gone, and they never talked about it

of course, the second she starts feeling something for ingrid she would tell her. the last time she didn't tell someone about her feelings she disappeared!

and then ingrid still leaves, and almost dies, and edelgard can't deal with that, and goes all "yes I have feelings for you but I can't afford to have a relationship with you, I must be strong, I can't deal with losing you too" or whatever

Different nonnie: The fact that Woobiegard believes Byleth is still alive and will come back is one of the easiest issues to fix in this nonsense between Woobiegard and Ingrid. Have Woobiegard also believe Byleth is dead and bingo, no cheating (assuming Ingrid isn't already with Sylvain at this point in the fic???)! And that can add some nice potential conflict once Byleth does come back as Woobiegard has to sort out her feelings towards both of them and how she and they perceive what happened over the timeskip.

Honest to god, this cheating thing was the easiest shit to just not have happen. These two suggestions can add genuine conflict between Edelgard and Byleth, where Edelgard can genuinely not be blamed for acting on her feelings because she actually thought Byleth was gone, and she thought she was finally moving on from the feelings of despair and loneliness with her growing love for Ingrid before Byleth randomly and suddenly returns from the dead. If you want to add some drama in a relationship, making it be understandable as to why the drama exists for both parties is usually pretty 👌 but he just has Edelgard cheat and have nothing come of it from her friends. I can just hope something happens when Byleth finds out - I mean it’ll probably be another handwave but I can hope lmao

@zorua-adorable: Okay, I know this isn’t gonna happen, but I think it’d be hilarious if Byleth finding out about Woobiegard cheating with Ingrid leads to her deciding to s-support Sothis (as a big ‘F YOU’ to Woobie).

But whoops I forgot that this is all about Woobiegard and Byleth epic all powerful timeline crossing love story so we can't have Byleth show a scrap of attraction to anyone other than Saint Woobiegard! But I guess Woobiegard is exempt from that??? But really I can't believe Woobiegard can fucking cheat on the supposed love of her life and STILL not experience any actual fallout over it!

A poly ship would have been a pretty daring turn for the fic to go down (like Nonnie 2, I’m also not a fan of it just cuz it’s rarely written that well in my experience), but given that he’s been apparently building up Ingrid’s feelings for Edelgard and vice versa for a bit (I say apparently because, like I said, Ingrid and Edelgard have acted pretty much like everyone else with no real romantic chemistry to speak of until Chapter 44 shoved all the romance at the reader at once) it wouldn’t be that unexpected. Of the two options - have cheating be there and addressed improperly or have Cap’n write a poly relationship - I think I’d actually rather the former, bad as it is. With a poly ship, I’d have to read Cap’n fumble around with something as complicated as that when he already handles far simpler concepts amateurishly for way longer than simply having the cheating come up in one chapter (at most two, assuming it comes up again when Byleth comes back - we all know it’d be resolved in one chapter lmao). Definitely would’ve made Edelgard look, like, way less ass than the cheating does tho lmao

This is the anon who mentioned the Lysithea fanfic in an ask:

I saw a comment saying they are interested in how the story ends and asking for its title. It was one of the earliest FE3H stories posted on lofter (it was late 2019) so I will have to look through the hundreds of bookmarks with the 3H tag I have saved the last two years to find it, but if you guys are interested, I can ask the author whether I could translate their work into English and post it on AO3 (because honestly it was really hilarious and had some brilliant ideas). Fair bit of a warning though, many fanfics on these Chinese sites were taken down in March 2020 during the "Great Purging of the Chinese Internet" due to a political reason (for those interested, google “the Xiao Zhan Incident”) but this is a basic outline of that story based on my memory of it:

Enbarr got bombed by the Agarthans using the Javelins of Light half-way through. It was a really unique and new idea to me at the time so I still remember the story so vividly after two years, though I don't recall the author ever explaining why the Agarthans could use the javelins of light for so many times. Because now that Rhea had been killed, the Agarthans could set their goal to eliminating all of the Nabatean influence including the Empire, a nation founded by Seiros and her lover where the royal bloodline was descended from the Nabateans. In that story the Empire was one of the Agarthans' prime targets and they actually tried to reach out to the Kingdom royals first, but it ended with Pan defecting and Loog allying his country with the Church. The Almyrans and the Alliance outright ignored them so they had to go with the Imperial royals, which many Agarthans considered an absolute disgrace. The story also theorised that the reason why the Crest of Flames implantation was possible in Ionius and his children was because they have the Goddess' blood in them (the author went along with the theory that Ionius was behind the experiments too).

So, after Rhea was killed in Fhirdiad, Lysithea looked up at the sky and saw glowing red lights piercing through the night towards the south. The Kingdom army chose to abandon their capital and retreat to the Gautier territory, waiting for Claude who formed an alliance with the Kingdom to come to their rescue with the Almyran reinforcements. The Kingdom and Church also trapped the entire Black Eagle Strike Force (BESF) inside the capital by blocking all the gates with boulders or something? Can't remember what but that’s not important. Anyway, the BESF soldiers got burnt to death with Rhea and Edelgard and her friends only escaped because Hubert warped them out. I think one of the Black Eagles also got heavily burnt, but I do not remember if it was Dorothea or Caspar. Meanwhile, the main army led by Count Bergliez got decimated by the cardinals who turned into dragons and set fire to the soldiers. Edelgard had to retreat to Garreg Mach with her remaining troops, but she quickly got the news the Imperial capital was also destroyed and decided to march on Shambhala as soon as possible as retaliation.

They got to Shambhala and Thales also pulled his trump card, but Rhea was not around to take the missiles, so the Black Eagle Strike Force suffered heavy loss again. Edelgard herself barely escaped thanks to Hubert, but Bernadetta, Count Bergliez, Byleth and the Death Knight died here (it was written in late 2019 so Emile was seen as a complete psychopath who deserved to go to hell at the time). Ferdinand specifically survived miraculously but he was actually replaced by Myson. Opps, forgot to mention, in the story Seteth and Flayn also died because Hubert and Edelgard sent Agarthan assassins after them (I don't remember what happened to Macuil and Indech though). Anyway, because of their great loss in number, the Imperial army could no longer control the Western part of the Kingdom and the Alliance. The rebellions in the Empire could no longer be suppressed easily anymore and hell broke loose in Fodlan.

One of Rufus' children with the Blaiddyd crest was made queen by Sylvain's father and Felix's uncle (I don't think the author knew illegitimate children could not inherit in medieval europe) and the Kingdom officially allied themselves with the Alliance under Holst, who spearheaded the campaign against Edelgard with Count Gloucester on their side (because they no longer have to fear an invasion). Oh, and I also recall that in that fic Petra's whole act post-timeskip was completely fake and she only pretended to be brainwashed to curry favour with Edelgard. She (and Brigid) switched side once the Empire no longer hold the same amount of control over their country and even backstabbed them by invading. Dagda tried to invade too and part of the story was Lysithea going on a diplomatic mission to negotiate for the Empire (but actually the Resistance).

Hubert tried to have the new leaders of the enemy nations assassinated, but Lysithea killed him with a poison Claude invented. I personally think it was a really clever trick so I still remember how she slowly poisoned them even now. Lysithea put the poison in a perfume bottle and sprayed it on Edelgard and Hubert's monthly share of firewood supply every once in a while. Day by day Edelgard and Hubert became more and more ill and all evidence was burnt to ash until they were slowly poisoned to death so even Hubert did not find out it was Lysithea. The Alliance + Kingdom + Claude won the war against the Empire easily because Myson, posing as Ferdinand, surrendered immediately when Edelgard died, but the real challenge was TWSITD whose influence and power increased a lot during the war due to Edelgard becoming increasingly reliant on them when she started losing (I distinctly remember the 12 Elites being deployed in the battles in that story).

The story ended with a generic good guys vs Nemesis fight and Lysithea married Linhardt. It is a really popular pairing on lofter for some reason, perhaps because Linhardt's personality is a bit similar to the “aloof hot young man uninterested in romance but goes straight for the critical attack when he falls in love” trope (aka Linhardt saying he wants to be family with Lysithea and asking Flayn to have babies with him) which is quite prevalent in China. Lysithea is kind of a tsundere girl, another popular trope in Chinese pop culture. Linhardt jumped ship the moment he had anything more interesting to do (curing Lysithea) than tagging along the Empire army.

Faerghus and Leicester both absorbed parts of the Adrestia territory and they gave Nuvelle to Dagda as a colony (Constance did not exist yet). However, Myson continued to pose as Ferdinand and control Adrestia whose territory had dwindled so much that only the old Hresvelg territory was left. Lurking in the shadows, he would continue to scheme and plot for Agartha’s victory.

What the actual fuck is Hegemon Edelgard? From her dialogue just before the transformation, she was expecting it to come, like some blast of magic from the slithery boys, but what? 

I’ve been told that random what the actual fuck final bosses is de rigueur for Fire Emblem, but I am not used to this many plotholes and nonsensical just WHAT.

Also, what the fuck happened to Claude in the Church route? Where is my son? What did you do to my son?

Someone on reddit postulated a post-apocalyptic setting because of the Agarthans and their magitech (funfact “agarthan” is the unobtanium-esque word for people who moved under ground during the apocalypse). I can buy it from the explanation Rhea gives in GD about Nemesis and Slithery Boys.

Since Rhea collected the remaining Children of the Goddess after the massacre of Zanado and built up her forces in Enbarr before the final battle with Nemesis, I think we can assume that’s how the Cethleann, Cichol, Indech and Seiros Crests got into the blood lines.

Anyway.

Earth or something, but if you zoom in in Shambala it looks like Cyrillic writing

Sothis comes from Space(tm) 

Sothis makes her children and they chill, sharing their alien tech and maybe introducing magic or something

humans fuck everything up 

Slithery Boys go under ground

Sothis rebuilds the world 

Sothis passes the fuck out in the Holy Tomb (with magitech defenses) 

The Children of the Goddess live in Zanado to not fuck up the humans again 

Nemesis is picked up by Slithery Boys and steals the “remains” of Sothis

Slithery Boys make the SotC, put Sothis’ blood in Nemesis, slap him on the butt and tell him to slaughter everything in Zanado

Slithery Boys make “relic weapons” for the 10 Elites

Seiros collects Macuil, Seteth, Indech, Flayn, presumably also Flayn’s mum and they give their blood to the budding Imperial humans to power them up to fight the Slithery Boys

Seiros defeats Nemesis, but is too weak and without enough forces to take back the other weapons

Rhea designates the relic weapons as “holy artifacts” in hopes they won’t be used against the Church and to keep track of their locations

Why don’t the humans notice that the Archbishop literally never ages?

Flyan tells Byleth “It’s hard to remember after your first sleep.” This implies that CotG regularly do a long sleep kind of thing (see also Indech and Macuil being sleepy shits) so Rhea probably takes generational breaks to sleep and let the humans forget what she looked like.

This is also supported by the fact that Byleth’s mother was only attempt 12 in some 1100 years. Rhea is batshit trying to resurrect her mother, there’s no way there’d be that few attempts in that timespan if she wasn’t sleeping. You could maybe guess that these attempts lived a little longer than humans so she waited ~100 years for one to die before trying again with the Crest Stone, but naps makes more sense. (Note: Rhea is what we’ll call Fantasy Insane, not to be confused or conflated with real life neurodivergence or mental illness)

If Rhea’s story of the Zanado Massacre is correct, why does Edelgard never mention it? She acts like everything Rhea’s done with the Church and over history is all just to grab power.

I see two possible options:

1) She is an incredibly damaged, severely tortured young woman who either forgot about it or believed that Rhea was lying when she told the first Emperor

2) The Slithery Boys have spent generations tweaking the story that the Emperors pass down in order to fit their own narrative

I think it’s more a case of unreliable narrator to create a “villain route” that has a sympathetic leader. Everything about Edelgard’s route is slap dash. Fewer anime cut scenes, worse writing, it’s markedly shorter, etc.

Not to say there isn’t an astonishing amount of overlap between Church and GD, but anyway.

tl;dr: Claude is the best and I’ve already got three damn OCs for this godforsaken game.

ps. Felix’s romance scene was much better than I was expecting, though I still think Felix/Sylvain is where it’s at. Is Felix/Sylvain/Ingrid OT3 too weird with Glenn? It’s too weird.

Lmaooo, I totally thought you’d at least progressed to the war arc or been spoiled for it considering all the fanart I’ve seen on ur blog. Are you doing Black Eagles as your 1st run? I thought you didn’t like Edelgard. Anyway, Lysithea is considered to be a must recruit, especially bc she has a great support chain w/ Edelgard. Fandom considers her an honorary Beagle tbh. Felix should come since you got his friends Sylvain and Ingrid. Honestly, you can try to recruit them all. Some people can’t bear to kill so they save all the students they can. Other people don’t recruit at all to maximize the angst of possibly killing them during the war arc. Then there’s recruiting some students and leaving others which also ups the angst factor during the war.

OH I LOVE EDELGARD. im hesitatin on who to romance.....dorothea or edelgard.... probably gonna be edelgard bc she’s alluded to having a very dark backstory and she’s a........’kind of’ .... enlightened ruler to be. is it just me or are all the boys that you can romance in the story SHIT - ive seen pics in which they get attractive after the time skip (even lindhardt???) but like ----- zero appeal at this moment - not claude tho - but he’s....lost to me : ‘(

i’ve actually got felix already too! forgot to mention him bc i didn’t actually put any effort into seducing him to my side bc i was so focused on leonie and ingrid - though he was definitely next in line! and then the option was suddenly just there so i was like OH! im just like - how am i gonna recruit all of these kids??? id have to spend so much damn time on Byleth’s skills and AAAA how much time have i got left???

The big problem I have with all my lovely new teammates is that I ...can’t put them in the field along with the others?? like - the’re no space. and i can have at most two lieuthenants i think. so How am i going to get them supportin’ with the rest. i feel so attached to the original black eagles i feel very conflicted about putting them in reserve.

is it also possible to just NOT kill people during the war? like.... just fight but not kill? bc that would make me feel better.

ive been spoiled for the fact there’s gonna be a war - think edelgard already talked some crest discourse so i figured it was gonna be ideological - i already suspected a connection between rhea and sothis - but been spoiled for the exact relationship but not the story around it (I JUST WAS SO CURIOUS ABOUT THE S-SUPPORT BC I KNEW I WOULD NEVER DO IT), i’ve been spoiled that there’s a connection between edelgard’s dark backstory and soemthng about dimitri. I’ve been spoiled by a friend i borrowed the game from that we were gonna overthrow the church or something. I know that it’s essential that i follow edelgard if she invites me to some place. That’s what I know. I dont have a switch myself so i’ve just been in purgatory for months thinking about getting one.......................................
