also this episode brings back the whole ant allegory, with the entities just being one huge creature. i think most people forget it at this point, and try to assign separate entities to different cases when multiple entities can and do show up in one occurence because at the end of the day, they are all just extensions of a bigger, incomprehensible eldritch being.

what do you think the mechs would be avatars of? my first thought was slaughter for the group as a whole bc,, duh. but now that im thinking about it, i think they'd be more eye/end aligned. because their whole thing is stories and the part they clearly deem most important is the end right? theres all the blood and gore in the middle but the important bit is everyone dies at the end
individually though, not as a whole group they're all sorts of stuff i think
ashes would be desolation for sure with all the fire and the likes, and hades makes me think web too? they're the one behind the scenes pulling the strings (granted, usually for their own entertainment but who can blame em really)
toy soldier would be stranger, once again for obvious reasons. im not really sure if theres much crossover on this one really.
jonny i reckon would be eye and slaughter, mans cares for two things and its violent crime and a good story (amen!)
brian is SO lonely coded like?? its in the backstory song man,, also vague end-ness probably, though tbf they probably all have that end cloud by virtue of being the mechanisms. maybe vast too
tim would be slaughter too, he loves a good murder spree but i feel like theres something else and ive just forgotten like half the fears lmao OUGH hunt maybe? tim goes crazy is very hunt coded
ivy is SO immensely eye. she's literally an archivist. she gathers and stores aaallll that information but her emotional connection to it is reset every night. thats so eye!!
nastya is definitely lonely, at least towards the end but probably the whole time (from what little i know of cyberian demons) and maybe dark? that ones 100% vibes i have no explanation
marius has very spiral vibes i think. hes just a silly guy ur honour i think he deserves it. i cant really think of any other one for him tbh
and raph is quite stranger coded i think, idk the detachment from humanity that comes with being a mad scientist just feels very stranger to me? more so than the average mechs detatchment from humanity
i dont know why i made this post but ive been rotating end/eye mechs in my brain for a couple days just because i think the idea of s5 jmart stumbling across a domain thats kind of an accumulation of the various album aettings and music that can be heard from anywhere in the domain and victims living/reliving the parts of the characters is very very cool and i needed to word vomit it somewhere

a large amount of time I've been spending on -untitled undefined scope original fiction project- since the last time I posted about it has been trying to develop the protagonist concept I came up with last summer or whatever into like, a character that would feel real and era appropriate.
it's fun research to do. naturally a lot of the details I assigned to her are things that I already think are cool, so it's been a lot of fun trying to trace her traits back through the relatively recent past, getting reminded of how much things have changed, or where the gaps in my intuition are, and then doing a flurry of reading to get a sense for exactly how someone like her and the people around her could have happened and what her life was probably like leading up to her present day. hopefully this results in some good good verisimilitude.
#I wrote a short story from her perspective over the holidays and then didn't know how to continue it#and then I got distracted by real life stuff for a few months#I forget if I posted about that#and then I've been picking through archive dot org for the last few weeks looking at this stuff#the last big rabbit hole was trying to get a better feel for era appropriate ts/tv subculture#the current one I'm looking at is how she would've gotten into language learning and how that would've worked#nettle has been prodding me about the setting thing lately so I've been thinking about that more too#probably the biggest hurdle by far is figuring out how I want to play that#and how I want the thing to be divided up#since the original coc scenario I'm developing this out of is centered on a flight from LA to honolulu#and the airport dungeon was definitely meant to be a hook for a larger campaign#some amount of it is going to cover protag lady's failed life in LA and some of it is going to be worse things happening in hawaii#but it's like. how much do I want to balance it one way or the other#and realistically how much does the aesthetics of 20th century air travel add to the story#besides me personally thinking it's compelling ofc#a lot of what I find compelling about hawaii is that it's an east/west cultural crossroads and realistically that's also true of socal#and I can wax poetic about socal as much as I want without worrying all that much about mishandling something#and there's also a lot of socal specific history along similar parallels to pull from that I'm more familiar with#I guess it comes down to whether curiosity re: 'doing it right' is enough of a motivator to do the increased amount of research#which I guess it has so far with the above character details. so hopefully that will continue#but it also feels like using machine translation a bit yknow. it's hard to know how effectively I'll be able to sanity check#although depending on where this goes I might be able to get other people involved to sensitivity read down the line#with most of the creative things I do I just have a tendency to always rely really heavily on figuring things out myself#I also want protag lady to have a Cool Car and idk how to get that from point a to point b narratively#this is like an entire second or third post's worth of tags but I don't feel like unfucking this so whatever. suffer. I guess.

Recently started rereading stormlight, shalash was totally at the feast. I mean restares (I forget his herald name) mentioned seeing the work of another herald using she/her, her statue was missing (she defaces depictions of herself), AND there was an unusual person jasnah met with (who had a shardblade)

Muse performing Muscle Museum on the Australian Rage TV on the 10:30 slot in 1999 promoting Showbiz
#found some things in archives!#Muse band#Muse live#Muscle Museum#Showbiz era#Muse were the first performance of the programme#I have another one! Muse's famous laugh made it into Rage's end-of-year compilation guest programmer montage.#There's music over most of the other musician guests' speaking but they've kept in Matt's manic laugh.#As they should lol I'll upload that that soon too#1999#But here's the thing they're freakishly good aren't they? Matt especially when it comes to playing live#Towards the end he's swinging his guitar around so wildly that you'd almost think how the fuck is it possible to still play it??#And yet he does; you can hear it. Perfect note for note. Musician composer and performer; not everyone can excel in ALL three departments#and if you put this era Matt side-by-side with other guitarists from across the ages; at a similar level of live exposure and experience#I am not sure; whether past or present; there are many guitarists that young that come close to him as a performer.#Like sometimes it's easy to wonder how on earth was a guitar band standing out the way Muse were in the early 00s? It was like. Pop-osphere#Guitars weren't like cool. How did Muse garner such a rabid fanbase circa album 1? And then you see the live performances and you remember#if you went and saw them play and then had a normal indie band come on—even ones we hail 20 years later—there's no way they had that.#No other band brought that kind of intensity live. There's no way you'd go to a Muse gig and ever be able to forget the band you just saw#which is something even the biggest Muse dismissers agree with#matt bellamy#chris wolstenholme#dom howard#Rage TV

Maedhros's brothers mostly buy the story of "Fingon got head trauma and doesn't remember the past." Fingon's obviously not faking the amnesia. And the Feanorians trust each other above outsiders. And several of them knew Maedhros and Fingon were married before, so it's not suspicious they're (still) married now.
But even so, its very convenient that Fingon trusts all of them now, and no one else. If Maedhros has carefully arranged to get the High King under his thumb, his brothers want to know what will send the house of cards toppling over.
Amras is the only one to ask outright. Every kind of mental Healing known to the Noldor was suggested to him in the early years in Beleriand, so he wouldn't fade after the death of his other half, and of his father, and of his grandfather; and the capture of his brother. He was offered to chance to forget it all, to remember the good times alone, to recall every minute crystal-clear such that the annoying parts couldn't be smoothed over and he'd be glad his twin was gone, to stop loving anyone he hadn't seen in the last day, to stop feeling anything at all... And all of them came with words of caution, additional things he would lose or ways he would remember again. Amras never acceped any spells that promised more than a few nights of dreamless sleep so he could recover, or a few days of complete calm when the Noldor were on the verge of all dying out. He wanted to remember, but he knows that it is sometimes a weakness, and that not all the spells would have required he know about them.
If Fingon will recall his entire childhood the first time he sees an elfling, Amras needs to know. Maedhros can have his fun, but not if Fingon will get in the way of retrieving the Silmaril, completing their mission, avenging their kin, and keeping Amrod from the Void. Fingon might be more annoying if locked in his room all day, but Maedhros can deal with it.
Amras asks his eldest brother. "How did the amnesia set in? Did he forget more each day, or was he fine one hour and lost completely the next?"
"Why in the world do you need to know my husband's medical information?"
"We all see each other often enough. If he forgets where he put down his boots, I should know if he needs more sleep or if it's a sign he's getting worse."
"It won't get worse - it was a sudden event with his head nearly being staved in! He forgot instantly, and is no more fragile now than the rest of us."
"I am glad to hear it. Bad enough for him to lose all sense of his place in the world, without having to fear it happening again. And it's good that you don't have to reintroduce yourself to your husband every morning."
"That was awkward the first time, but he never forgot me completely. Our love is stronger than any terror that tries to separate us."
"Was he scared then, at the beginning?"
"A bit, but less once the nightmares stopped."
Having nightmares of things you couldn't remember was almost the exact opposite of the Songs Amras had used. Nightmares were a sign of the emotions coming through with too few facts; Amras had dulled his feeling at times but never once the names of those he had lost.
"I'm surprised they stopped so quickly, with no memories of his family solid to anchor his thoughts on other than the twisted version that shows in nightmares."
"Fingon is strong, and brave enough to face what is coming rather than fear what has been left behind. The healers' plan let him recover in weeks what might take others years."
Amras nodded and changed the subject. The healers had obviously done something to make sure Fingon would have no nightmares, and Maedhros knew what it was, and Maedhros was confident enough in it to leave the healers behind rather than "recruit" one to the East to hide Fingon's memories again as needed. It might be that Fingon thought the nightmares had faded naturally, but that made little difference if they were well and truly blocked from him. Amras wouldn't encourage Fingon to seek out his past, but he wouldn't worry that the next Balrog sighting would send Fingon into a spiral of fear.

On being an older fangirl
I was probably 10 years old when I first conceived of what was, looking back, fanfiction. Me and my best friend would lie in bed together on sleepovers and I'd make up stories about what happened after the end of our favorite book, "The Westing Game." She'd ask me for more stories, and I'd tell her more, inventing them as I went along. "Then what?" she'd say.
I was 14 when I went to my first convention. I had discovered Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was 1987, and my youth pastor was a huge Trekkie. He took me to a one-day crappy Creation con, but it was amazing to me. I met Nichelle Nichols. My dad showed me the Trek movies. He and I watched TNG together.
When I went to college in 1991, my dad used to videotape TNG episodes onto VHS tapes and mail them to me, so I could keep watching (I didn't have TV in my dorm room).
By the time I was a senior, we had Trek watching parties in the dorm lounge, where the TV had cable. Star Trek: Voyager had started up, and I wrote a column about it for the college newspaper. I joined a mailing list about it, with people in it that I still know today.
I got my first computer that could go online in 1995. I was on newsgroups. I discovered Doctor Who. I went to Trek conventions where we still passed around fanzines containing fic and art and smutty K/S fan creations.
Then it was Harry Potter. Then there were websites. Then there was Geocities, where we could all make our own little spots. We organized them into webrings. We talked on newsgroups and mailing lists. There were fanfic archives. Then there was fanfiction.net.
Then...there was LiveJournal. And we could interact in entirely new ways. We could form communities, and debate things, and fight over canon, and get into ship wars. On LiveJournal, I met my best friend of 22 years. I was in her wedding. She's my sister of the heart (which is what she calls me).
Then there was Tumblr. And Twitter. And now there's Discord. But it's all the same.
I am the same.
I am still that little girl who made up fanfiction in her head to entertain her best friend. I am still the one who was amazed to find communities on the internet - which was so new, so raw, so uncommodified - where others like me could meet. I found there people to meet in real life.
I am still that twentysomething going to her first major convention, being told that someone loved my fic, being asked about my writing process.
I am still that thirtysomething watching something I wrote blow up. Seeing friends from other fandoms find me in new ones, finding them there, too. Forgetting which fandom I know someone from, because I've known them for twenty years.
I still know some of the people who created those early websites, those mailing lists, those archives. I still meet people in new fandoms who say "Oh, I read your fic in [fandom] fifteen years ago!" There's no feeling quite like having someone remember something you wrote for that long. Or meeting someone whose fic meant a lot to YOU, or who you talked with on rec.arts.drwho.creative in 1997.
Aging in fandom is a gift. Being middle-aged in fandom is a joy. Having people who still read what I write and ask "Then what?" is a blessing.
It breaks my heart that so many people see it as something to be ashamed of, when it is one of my life's greatest gifts.

Info: Does anyone else see the gorgeous possibilities for Pike/McCoy?? Some reprimanding, perhaps, based on the fact that Bones totally is Jim's little bitch, sneaking him on board right under Pike's nose like that. Guh, I am tingly just thinking about it. (thread)

📚 A List Of Useful Websites When Making An RPG 📚
My timeloop RPG In Stars and Time is done! Which means I can clear all my ISAT gamedev related bookmarks. But I figured I would show them here, in case they can be useful to someone. These range from "useful to write a story/characters/world" to "these are SUPER rpgmaker focused and will help with the terrible math that comes with making a game".
This is what I used to make my RPG game, but it could be useful for writers, game devs of all genres, DMs, artists, what have you. YIPPEE
Writing (Names)
Behind The Name - Why don't you have this bookmarked already. Search for names and their meanings from all over the world!
Medieval Names Archive - Medieval names. Useful. For ME
City and Town Name Generator - Create "fake" names for cities, generated from datasets from any country you desire! I used those for the couple city names in ISAT. I say "fake" in quotes because some of them do end up being actual city names, especially for french generated ones. Don't forget to double check you're not 1. just taking a real city name or 2. using a word that's like, Very Bad, especially if you don't know the country you're taking inspiration from! Don't want to end up with Poopaville, USA
Writing (Words)
Onym - A website full of websites that are full of words. And by that I mean dictionaries, thesauruses, translators, glossaries, ways to mix up words, and way more. HIGHLY recommend checking this website out!!!
Moby Thesaurus - My thesaurus of choice!
Rhyme Zone - Find words that rhyme with others. Perfect for poets, lyricists, punmasters.
In Different Languages - Search for a word, have it translated in MANY different languages in one page.
ASSETS
In general, I will say: just look up what you want on itch.io. There are SO MANY assets for you to buy on itch.io. You want a font? You want a background? You want a sound effect? You want a plugin? A pixel base? An attack animation? A cool UI?!?!?! JUST GO ON ITCH.IO!!!!!!
Visual Assets (General)
Creative Market - Shop for all kinds of assets, from fonts to mockups to templates to brushes to WHATEVER YOU WANT
Velvetyne - Cool and weird fonts
Chevy Ray's Pixel Fonts - They're good fonts.
Contrast Checker - Stop making your text white when your background is lime green no one can read that shit babe!!!!!!
Visual Assets (Game Focused)
Interface In Game - Screenshots of UI (User Interfaces) from SO MANY GAMES. Shows you everything and you can just look at what every single menu in a game looks like. You can also sort them by game genre! GREAT reference!
Game UI Database - Same as above!
Sound Assets
Zapsplat, Freesound - There are many sound effect websites out there but those are the ones I saved. Royalty free!
Shapeforms - Paid packs for music and sounds and stuff.
Other
CloudConvert - Convert files into other files. MAKE THAT .AVI A .MOV
EZGifs - Make those gifs bigger. Smaller. Optimize them. Take a video and make it a gif. The Sky Is The Limit
Marketing
Press Kitty - Did not end up needing this- this will help with creating a press kit! Useful for ANY indie dev. Yes, even if you're making a tiny game, you should have a press kit. You never know!!!
presskit() - Same as above, but a different one.
Itch.io Page Image Guide and Templates - Make your project pages on itch.io look nice.
MOOMANiBE's IGF post - If you're making indie games, you might wanna try and submit your game to the Independent Game Festival at some point. Here are some tips on how, and why you should.
Game Design (General)
An insightful thread where game developers discuss hidden mechanics designed to make games feel more interesting - Title says it all. Check those comments too.
Game Design (RPGs)
Yanfly "Let's Make a Game" Comics - INCREDIBLY useful tips on how to make RPGs, going from dungeons to towns to enemy stats!!!!
Attack Patterns - A nice post on enemy attack patterns, and what attacks you should give your enemies to make them challenging (but not TOO challenging!) A very good starting point.
How To Balance An RPG - Twitter thread on how to balance player stats VS enemy stats.
Nobody Cares About It But It’s The Only Thing That Matters: Pacing And Level Design In JRPGs - a Good Post.
Game Design (Visual Novels)
Feniks Renpy Tutorials - They're good tutorials.
I played over 100 visual novels in one month and here’s my advice to devs. - General VN advice. Also highly recommend this whole blog for help on marketing your games.
I hope that was useful! If it was. Maybe. You'd like to buy me a coffee. Or maybe you could check out my comics and games. Or just my new critically acclaimed game In Stars and Time. If you want. Ok bye
