obviously this isnt about people headcanoning mob as having DID/OSDD because god knows representation for neurodivergencies that arent anxiety, depression, or the movie version of ptsd are lacking in media and being able to project aspects of yourself that you see in characters is really fun (god knows i love ocd blasting characters i relate to) but people treating mob and shigeo as two totally separate characters with two separate personalities is sorta starting to feel like it's missing the entire point of the confession arc.

like, "mob" is not the version of mob who does good things and "shigeo" is not the version of him who does scary evil things and hates everyone mob loves for no reason. theyre the same person. the conversation between them in the confession arc isnt a literal conversation taking place, it's a representations of his two desires which he has convinced himself are irreconcilable. "mob" represents his desire to keep his relationships with his loved ones- which he has convinced himself comes at the cost of repressing every aspect of his true self- and "shigeo" represents his desire to live freely and express himself as he wishes- which he has convinced himself means pushing everyone but tsubomi away before they reject him because he is absolutely certain that she is the only person in the world who will accept and love him for who he truly is. the friends he fights- teru, the body improvement club, reigen- are all people he's convinced only like the fake him and would hate the real him, and now they're trying to get in the way of the only thing he can even remember wanting because of how long he's squashed down and hidden away his own desires for other people's convenience.

if your friends, if the people you trusted, said this to you the first time you were exercising your own free will for the first time in years, wouldnt you snap a little too?

the relationship between mob and reigen is probably my favorite thing from mob psycho. i genuinely adore their dynamic :’)

i know a lot of people call reigen his dad, but they’re so brothers to me.

maybe i’m projecting because i crave healthy (listen reigen has his problems, id say it becomes healthy after the events of the anime lol) sibling relationships… but like .. reigen is such a dickhead older brother.

i think a wonderful example is the vase scene. no one is allowed to scam mob!! reigen will not stand for that!! except him. like he can scam mob that’s literally whatever… tell me that’s not older brother core. you can’t be mean to my little brother!! only i’m allowed to!!!

(and obviously i know mob has like… a real brother. but their relationship dynamic is so different that it falls into a different category. i still love ritsu and i think his character development is so good! overcoming that weird jealousy you get from an older brother- but also a “gifted” older brother. also the dynamic of mob desperately trying to not hurt ritsu and that suppression ultimately causing him to.. oh don’t get me started..)

Another thing I've realized because I am, as per usual, always thinking about confession arc but is probably very obvious to everyone whoops:

???%'s behavior so so SO closely mirrors all of Mobs main three relationships (Teru, Ritsu, and Reigen) at their worst. Ohhh my god.

Him being extremely focused only on his own goals with no real care to collateral damage, just taking what he wants because who'd ever wanna give it to him? The complete disregard for other people's consequences or feelings because why should he deny himself this? Teru.

Him wanting to act on all his worst desires and trying to act awful just in a desperate attempt to break out of the mold he was forced into, literally saying hes been freed, just this complete feeling of being trapped and acting as bad as possible to free himself? Ritsu.

The conflict between two sides of himself? The lying? The emotional repression? Reigen.

And the best part of all this is that it lends itself so well to resolving all four of their character arcs, by having Teru, Ritsu, and Reigen all have to confront who they used to be and even their current flaws to be able to help him. Teru's forced to realize even the best people have flaws and is finally able to accept this and take down the pedestals, and via accepting Mob he finally accepts that everyone has worth even if they're flawed and there is no such thing as special. Ritsu is able to confront the reason he started acting like that and sees his own worth, sees his own good qualities and what he can give, realizes they aren't just a delusion and he can help his brother. And Reigen is finally honest. Reigen finally takes off the mask and shows him the other side of himself so he can realize that he's not the only one.

ok . ok. i'm gonna talk about my two current faves right now because imFucking deranged

khan. im so serious .he is so fucking interesting i honest to god havent rewatched md in a hot second but if you think about his concepts & how he acts in ep 7 AND HONESTLY EVERY SINGLE EPISODE THAT HE'S IN . he's just. hes just so interesting??? i don't see people talking about him alot for reasons that are totally justifiable but just once i wish to see character analysis that isnt about n or uzi..

i want to know about his dynamic with nori. i want to watch his descent into depression (?) after she died & i really, REALLY want to see his redemption. because he does care. everyone is capable of change, and even if he's had a few hiccups in his appearances in the show, i really think he can improve. he DOES care. even if he's forgotten how to show it. i find the conflict between him and uzi very interesting esp involving n. because i think he understands n's a good friend for uzi but there's that innate fear he's immortalized in his brain after having to put down his wife who was attacked by the very creature uzi's new friend is.

the guy's clearly traumatized. he lost his wife, he's emotionally distanced from his child, he's clearly poured himself into his work. and this is from the . like. ten minutes of screentime he's gotten. like COME ON. even if you have no interest in him you have to admit there's a lot there to unpack. even if you have no interest in HIM, you have to admit it's fucking hilarious that his pringles logo ass pulled NORI of all drones. come on. i'm also very curious because he seemed to be a drone that came from before the core collapsed... assuming he and nori were similar ages, he must have had personal run ins with humans. i wonder what that was like

i can completely understand where people are coming from when they say they dislike him because he reminds them of their dad. but i guess i have a different opinion on him cause of how My dad was? i don't know i don't want to get super personal about fictional robots but to put it bluntly i don't have a relationship with him. a lot of factors in my life that weren't directly his fault lead him to being pretty absent in my life and i guess i connect alot to khan because i kind of. wish. he w as . my dad ? i dont know. khan is like an exact parallel of my dad if he Cared. so like. yes :) i have a weird affinity for khan haha. mr uzi!

ok. mob psycho. other than my absolute faves who are hilarious & underrated , inukawa, goda, mezato and TOME <3333 ... my absolute fave has to be tsubomi motherfucking takane. i have not read the reigen spinoff, but i'm REALLY fucking hoping we get to see more of her in the spinoff. because. she's so interesting. she's so fucking interesting.

the entire series presents her as this unobtainable thing of goodness, the end-all of mob's goals. this is ESPECIALLY emphasized in the show which makes her (in the words of ONE i think) more heroic in appearance... and by that i mean they gave her yaoiful eyes. like they made her really pretty in the show to emphasize how mob's looking at her through rose tinted glasses, which is such a cool detail because as the story progresses we see her with her original comic design as mob realizes she's just a person like him! she's literally the driving force of the entire narrative, but barely gets ANY screentime... in the moments we do see of her, she shows a lot of interesting traits. but BESIDES her interactions with mob, there's so much more i find interesting about her. i've only been into mp100 for a month and ive only watched it maybe 6 times so please forgive me if my information is skewed.

in the divine tree arc... dimple points out how she's very openly honest about her wants and is not afraid to deny someone, no matter how forceful. she's literally the only fucking person next to teru who was described as being able to withstand the mind control. not even fucking reigen could.

she rejects a shit ton of people in one of the arcs i can't remember. but literally the fact that someone asks her "why :(?!" when she rejects them and she's like. oh do you really want to know? and goes out of her way to ROAST THE FUCK out of this random ass guy.

in the confession arc, mezato talks to mob about the things she's learned about tsubomi (which is gay as hell btw. i know she's a reporter but god damn) about the fact that she appears to feel strongly about maintaining her image. she's very polite upfront with friends she talks with, but when she's alone/away from other people seems to drop that facade into something more disinterested/distant... which sort of tracks, considering a lot of people only want to connect with her because of her looks/the popularity she can give them by interacting with them. that gets exhausting, i can sympathize lol. she also seems to have trouble trusting others / feels like she's constantly got to be on guard. maybe her place in the school's hierarchy is really the only thing she has? i don't know, but her reaction to literally. sneezing in front of other people was so overblown it really seemed she thought her life would be ruined if her friends saw her needing a tissue which is so interesting to me.

EVEN RITSU DESCRIBES HOW DISINTERESTED SHE SEEMED IN OTHER PEOPLE when she left them playing hide & seek as a kid LOL. like she's in her own little world. my takeaway from her scenes is that she's constantly keeping everyone else at arm's length because she doesn't trust anyone. to her, everyone just wants to get close to her because they want the positives coming from being near her, not because they want to get to know her. everyone seems to know her behind her mask... which i know i said i wouldn't compare her to mob (and i'm not! i just find this comparison interesting, she's incredible on her own) but they have this in common from my understanding. mob has also hidden himself away from the world via insane suppression & masking because he had an experience that taught him that expressing himself was dangerous. tsubomi hides herself away from the world with masking I Think because she believes it's dangerous/can cause unnecessary grief to get close to other people because they'll always fuck with her in the end (hence the fucking. sneezing scene IDK WHAT TO CALL THAT SCENE HAHA)

so like. mob's infatuation with her is like him grasping at a life that's out of his reach... when in reality, she's not on a higher level than him -- she's just like him. i don't know i'm thinking about this now. okay. i really like tsubomi.

this is purely out of curiosity and i don't want to send hate your way, but do you ship mob and reigen? and if so, why?

I do, yeah. An ex-friend of mine asked me the exact same question (just more... harshly I think and with what I assumed was prejudice) before they decided to part our ways and I could never properly answer them because I was so stressed by the situation, it was hard to gather my thoughts. So I'll do my best to explain here, hopefully to make myself understood better.

Sorry if this gets lenghty >_< I'll just put a readmore right here.

I think the biggest reason for why I like them is their canon relationship that has been explored in the series already quite thoroughly - that they have changed eachother, helped eachother grow and one wouldn't be the person they are without the other. I think most of us understand the depth of it. Reigen is Mob's teacher and friend, someone like an older brother. There surely is a strong bond between them and they've seen each other at their best and worst and still acknowledged and accepted eachother's flaws. They trust eachother, they would give their life for eachother even (at least Reigen would, he almost did in the finale after all). And I do think that they love eachother but in a way that isn't actually romantic in canon. I'm perfectly capable of realizing that and I value it a lot both in the series and in fanworks (one of my fav works of fanfiction is about exactly that).

It was my curiosity that made me search up a ship fic of them, I was just confused why people ship them in the first place and whether it can be good and I found myself enjoying it a lot (to my surprise). It was set into the future, and dealt with some serious topics like loss and acceptance, it was kind of bittersweet. Then I felt that maybe it was just slightly ooc because all of the serirei fics I was busy reading depicted Reigen slightly different. Nontheless, I had the other ship on my mind then so I never really dived into Mob/Reigen, but it changed my perspective on them a lot.

And at some point into all this I realized, why not? Why can't I haz 2 cookies? (god im sorry that was terrible sfjgsdkj). What I mean is that the buildup canon offers can be taken further - more of their relationship can be explored in terms of new tropes, sometimes romantic too.

On a personal note I'll just add that I'm rather picky about them and tend to stick to fluff, hurt/comfort and slow slow burns. And I like them most post-canon, a few years into the future. It turns out that it all depends on how they're portrayed for me to like them anyways. I talked on here recently about a work that really had it all and portrayed their relationship in a very satisfying and mature way, with all the complicated feelings, it felt very realistic, especially on Reigen's side. So if anyone wants, here's a rec from me again -> in my dreams (I seem to be more honest) on ao3, just because I think it has all that I like about the ship.

I think that this is the whole point of fanworks - to kind of look further and have fun with it, to see "what if?". Even if it's something sort of.. taboo I guess? Because you get to take it apart in a fictional dimension (if that makes sense). And I completely understand if this is something that can ick some people out or that someone doesn't want to ruin their perception of the characters' relationship. That's totally fine by me and I'm not going to force anyone into liking the ship of course. And there are definitely tropes and tags I really don't want to look into - not everything is for me either.

And I think this goes without saying but I'll add it here anyways: what I like to see in fiction doesn't mean I would like or encourage anyone to do the same thing in real life! It's just interesting to explore from a safe distance where no one can get hurt.

5. Do you respond to comments?

usually! it might take me a bit, but I usually try to respond, especially if it's a more recent fic. if it's an old fic or the comment is just, like, a string of heart emojis or something, I usually don't respond. doesn't mean the comment doesn't make me smile though!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

tbh I don't write a whole lot of angsty endings? even if it's an angsty fic, I try to end on at least a hopeful/bittersweet note, y'know? I guess the angstiest ending would be Frayed Seams because it's in the middle of the series and is giving context to the strained relationship between the Kageyama siblings. they do eventually begin to mend their relationship by the end of the series! just. not in this fic.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

this is once again rather hard because I mostly write happy endings! and I have a lot of short fics that are just. pure fluff. I guess if I'm looking for a fic that's long enough to Earn a happy ending, it would be a tie between Plant Their Hearts In Community Gardens or the sun in the summertime! I love how much Mob and Reigen's lives have improved by the end of the show <3

8. Do you get hate on fics?

not that comes to mind! I don't think I've ever gotten hate comments, so if people don't like my stuff they at least only complain about it somewhere I can't see it, which I appreciate

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

not really! I am usually a genfic writer lol though I have had wlwangxian robot sex on the brain lately for. reasons. and also I have a feeling some of my bingqiu fics are going to be like, scenes in the Middle of them having sex, because [gestures] bingqiu

10. Do you write crossovers?

I haven't done a whole lot of them, but I think the concept can be fun if executed properly! crossovers where the two casts meet don't generally appeal to me, but crossovers that function more like an au (characters from Series A in the universe of Series B) are more my speed. I have been pondering a svsss/hlvrai crossover....

not in a "we both were writing the fic in its entirety" way but I have written some aus and fics where I was bouncing ideas off friends so much that they might as well be a co-author. Let's Get This Over With would not exist without @neonlav's help

so many... so so many......... do not look in my google docs folder, there are too many untitled documents that have been abandoned........... I guess a more recent example would be a mdzs fic where wei wuxian is the juniors' camp counselor. I think the idea was v fun but I could not figure out where to take it. man I wish I was an artist so I didn't have to write plots for my silly little aus

dialogue! I love writing dialogue, especially when I feel like I really Get a character

fight scenes.... also pacing and figuring out how to end a fic, final lines are so hard

I am not fluent enough in another language to pull off writing whole chunks of dialogue in another language! sometimes I'll use terminology from another language, especially if it doesn't translate well (like Japanese or Chinese honorifics and family terms) but otherwise I don't write in another language bc I would be too worried about it being incorrect

19. First fandom you wrote for?

it was, embarrassingly, for the since disgraced video game youtuber Cryaotic. in my defense, I was thirteen. the first fandom I posted fic for was for Hetalia, which is just as embarrassing. once again, my defense is that I was fourteen

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I am genuinely so goddamn proud of Let's Get This Over With. I had so much fun writing it, there are some concepts in it that I'm really proud of, and I just really enjoyed writing for hlvrai. those character voices were fun to play with

WOOO! Saiki losing it

A large part of Saiki's development in this AU is learning to be around Reigen. Not for found family reasons but because Reigen thinks (and says) things that Saiki doesn't wanna hear. He thinks that Saiki is close with Teruhashi despite his nonchalant demeanor, he says (to Mob but in front of Saiki) that being psychic doesn't make you special, it's just a skill. It's just a tool.

Saiki runs away from Reigen because he's terrified of the idea that Reigen's thoughts could be true. He can't harm Reigen because of his own morals (mainly because of Teruhashi. He makes her happy and Saiki wouldn't be able to live with himself if he hurt one of the few adults who saw her as a human being).

What does it mean when a man says that it's fine if you have friends when you've spent so long refusing to let anyone close?

What does it mean when you're told that the thing you've feared and resented your entire life isn't special?

Kuuske's general existence didn't help either. But over the course of the AU, Saiki gets more and more worried about confronting the things he previously refused to believe, making progress before it's all dumped down the drain. It hits a head sometime between the Separation Arc and the World Domination Arc.

But overall? Saiki, like the other characters in the show, is a kid. He's a teenager who doesn't like hearing people talk about aspects of himself that he doesn't wanna admit.

Part of me that adores their dynamic wants to say that Teruhashi helps this internal conflict, but she only makes it escalate more. Her finding out about his powers makes him worry even more and that worry only gets worse when she's completely fine with it. She's calm, she helps him hide it if it comes to that, and she's extremely nonchalant about it. Their relationship shifts with the weight of a secret like that and Saiki is fucking spiraling.

On the topic of mobs normal parents, I feel like it's also diminishing to make reigen out to be shigeos adoptive father. I know this take has been made before but personally, the friendship of a tween/teen and an adult hits much harder than dad reigen to me. The fact that mob has a mature(ish) adult friend to confide in and hang out with means the world to me as someone who has grown up with adult friends!! Reigen isn't his father, he has a perfectly fine one. He is his friend. Sometimes your friends know you a bit better than family, and especially can give advice from outside perspective that is SUPER valuable especially if they're older! Anyways sorry to ramble but . Their friendship is wonderful to me and people shouldn't diminish shigeos perfectly average fammy.

I think mob and reigen's relationship is very special and very specific in a sense that I'm not sure how to articulate, so I don't know if friend is the exact word i'd use while I get where you're coming from. personally I think what makes their bond so unique is that it is first and foremost a very fresh spin on the mentor/mentee dynamic, which by nature doesn't really include the equal footing a friend implies. while I understand people being wary of calling reigen mob's parental figure, I don't think it negates at all the fact mob has a normal family, yknow? as you said, I think it's important for teens growing up to have other adult figures in their lives outside their family, but I think what makes reigen such a significant figure in mob's life is the fact that he does serve as a sort of authority figure, and cares about him to such a degree that I have to equate to a parental one (re: willing to literally die for mob). I think it's also important to note that reigen knows mob since he was a tiny little 10 year old, confused and scared and traumatized, and reigen's words were so impactful for mob because he was an external adult figure that could give him comfort outside of his family. I definitely agree with you however that defining it as a found father figure is reductive because reigen is young and there's genuinely just... So many layers to this relationship than I'm able to articulate or define. I guess the closest would be.... A semi parental mentorship with a side of coworkers...? perhaps? Because there is distance between them as an employer and employee, mentor and mentee, teacher and student, but also they're very close in that reigen would do anything for mob to a pretty intense self sacrificial degree while mob looks up to reigen for security and comfort first and foremost. I think a good showcase of this is in the second after mob's house burns down, and even though dimple assures mob his parents are alright, it's only when he hears these words from reigen that he's able to calm down and eventually passes out from exhaustion - kind of like how it will hit you very differently when a parent or teacher will say it will all be okay rather than just anyone, if that makes sense.

basically the bottom line imo is that reigen and mobs relationship doesn't diminish the fact mob has a normal family, but it does mean mob needed an external mentor, a semi parental figure in order to find his way in life and navigate through his personal issues.

I have absorbed it into my body and my writing. The slow build, the foregone conclusion, the denial, the interspersing of memory, even the summary and author's note Altered™ me. This is my all time favorite fic, and from my all time favorite video game.

This is the fic ever. This is the longfic ever. This is the Renjing fic ever. This is the everything to me ever. Every day I think of my favorite Renjing headcanons and plot bunnies and wishes and I realize they sprung from this fic. Holy fucking shit. If I wasn't writing so much I would dedicate all of my time to translating this masterpiece into English. The summary does not do it justice but basically Renjing go on a road trip and slowly fall in love while learning how to live and to be together without hurting each other and to be happy. It's complete at 200,000 words and I normally enjoy shorter fics but I would have read 1,000,000 words of this. I still will. Sweetie_tianyang, please.

There is nothing I appreciate more than a well done piece of horror. So insidious, so creeping, so everywhere. Lingering. A work of art and a model for manipulative relationships and gaslighting. The final scene with the rope has a full body grip on me.

The Decline

It was almost inhuman coming from John – John, who once drank an entire bottle of tabasco sauce and then got it all over the bathroom because he was laughing hysterically while he vomited. John, who fucked up an alternate dimension by aiming an uncontrollably shitting dog like a rocket launcher. John whimpered.

This fic is so intensely, faultlessly in the spirit of the books, which I adore, that it makes me want to blow up my house with grenades.

since i havent made this post formally (writing is hard orz) ill give a quick background on the nature of ace and reigen’s relationship and some mob psycho rundown in case youre unfamiliar:

(tw for mentions of grooming, implied sibling incest and teacher/student age gaps/power dynamics)

Ace is ~14 for most of the stuff i imagine and is an esper, someone with psychic abilities like telekinesis! He works for Reigen,(the self-proclaimed “world’s greatest psychic) who, even though he actually doesn’t have any psychic abilities, has been working as a psychic and an exorcist alongside Ace for about 4 years now. Ace is a bit awkward and introverted, and his home life is complicated (his parents died and its just been him and his older sister for a while, and they have a not-so-normal dynamic, tldr sibling grooming basically) leaving him to seek out attention from older figures in his life, namely Reigen. He trusts him deeply and believes he has spiritual powers even though he can’t sense it, and lets Reigen use him and his powers to make money because Reigen is proud of him and “teaches” him to use his powers better (mostly bs). They have a teacher/student dynamic and though the exact specifics arnt set in stone bc i love to play around with them, however it happens they eventually they get together! with that intro out of the way:

7. Do you notice any big generational differences between you?

Reigen’s only about 14 years older than Ace, so not too many, but I like to think Reigen is pretty bad with technology even though he swears hes good at it, and Ace is more competant and tries not to laugh when Reigen shows him “the hottest memes” and its like. doge. I think Reigen also listens to older music, but Ace tries to listen to it to to feel more connected to him.

8. Does the age gap in your relationship lend itself to a power dynamic, or are things balanced between the two of you?

Nyehehehe my favorite aspect!!!! Yes things are so unbalanced. Adding to the power dynamic is that theyre student and teacher, but even outside of that Reigen is so much older and more experienced, and he has a quick wit and a silver tongue. He can scam anyone, get his way out of any verbal argument, and convince the other person of anything. Since hes older, Ace trusts him, even in things he definitely shouldnt. Ace definitely goes along with things “because reigen said so” because hes older and his teacher, he knows better! power dynamics my beloved…

I will flip flop between if I like the disconnect between ???% and Mob better as a plural thing or an allegory .I like both! Both is good! He's so fascinating as an allegory but also he's the most accurate representation of being plural I've ever seen and it's not even canon. So like. Two cakes!

I will always be insane about the manga version of confession arc. Hold on I need to talk about this in detail or I'll actually die.

His fucking. His fucking talk with Mob. "And you were never...never...looking at me." WHAT IF I SCREAM. Literally everything he says to Mob is so interesting and also relatable as shit whether you view it as plural or as an allegory. Both is good. Like you can view him telling Mob he forgot to protect himself and all that shit as like "You only do these good things to ease your own guilt. You don't actually want to be around people. You're selfish. This is who I am. I want to be able to exist without trying to be normal. I want to be able to be seen and not be harmed for it. I am tired of everyone ignoring this part of me because they prefer you. Would they actually do what I've done for them, or are they using me?" Like. Holy shit. It's so so fucking OW especially as an autistic person. But also as a system it's so easy to read him going "You pushed all the memories you didn't want onto me. You let me handle the things you didn't want. You shoved everything onto me, and I took it with stride because I loved you. You let me take all the hard things so you didn't have to face them, because you're a coward. This is my body too. This is my life too. Why don't I get to have that? Why do I have to give it up because you don't want me? They're my family too. You don't get to decide I don't deserve to exist because you hate yourself too much to admit I'm here." Like. Its so easy to read it as him being a protector who is SO fucking resentful of all the shit he's had to deal with, all the memories he has to hold alone, all of the shit he's experienced, and not a sliver of gratitude. Like goddamn does it remind me of my experience being a system. Either way the distance from him and the relationship between him and Mob has been my favorite part of the show since I started watching. And the manga is even more interesting and it's so!!!!!!!!!!!

More confession manga thoughts!! Him saying "Ritsu is my little brother. He was calling me Nii-san." Is so. He said that when Mob asked who he was. He viewed that as a solid part of his identity. RITSU is a massive part of his identity. Does he view Mob as not Ritsu's brother then? Does he feel like he was cheated out of his own family? I wouldn't be surprised nor would I blame him for feeling like that.

And even more confession arc shit. Hi. Thinks about how ???% in the anime at least had to steel himself before raising his hand at Reigen. He hates him but he still cares about him. He hates him but that guy raised him as much as his parents did. Clawing at the walls.

Actually y'know what I haven't talked about my thoughts on Reigen and ???% with anyone but the friend that I watched the show with and that is a tragedy that will not stand. ???% hates Reigen so so much but also cares SO much about him. Thinks about he passed out the second Reigen told him his parents were fine, and contrast that to him saying that he can't listen to Reigen in confession. He knows that if he listens to Reigen he'll believe him and that fucking terrifies him. He'll follow after Reigen because he means the world to him, because that man raised him, because he just wants him to be proud of him so fucking badly. He'll go back to being miserable and trapped, and everyone will go back to pretending he doesn't exist. He's terrified of Reigen, I think, because he knows Reigen is a good liar. Reigen can make him believe things. And he doesn't like that. He doesn't like how gullible he actually is. That's why he doesn't trust anyone- he's gullible enough to believe anything, so he has to distrust ANYTHING, no matter how much sense it makes, because he knows he can't trust his own judgement. He's been tricked before. He'll be tricked again. Don't trust anyone. Don't trust anything you see. This is another thing that works with either autism or plurality. The autism trauma of being lied to and deceived as "jokes" constantly turning you into a trust issue riddled mess that doesn't trust your own judgement or view of people, or a traumatized protector who FORMED to help you deal with people taking advantage of you and now distrusts everyone you love because "it happened before, it'll happen again, i wont let it happen." Or both!

God. I just LOVE ???% y'all don't understand. He's everything to me. Please god read the manga. I don't know if the translation I read was completely accurate, but I love the manga and anime both so so much. ???% is my favorite character as anyone who knows me can tell you and I will never shut up about him. Shigeo Kageyama | Mob Psycho 100 Kageyama Twins AU 04-01-2023

I thought about it earlier (or rather yesterday) and I think it could be an interesting idea so I want to throw different headcanons for this AU

- ???% Is the one called Shigeo Kageyama. Meanwhile, Mob is called Kazuo (和夫) Kageyama (but he's gonna be Mobbu for us 💜).

Mob would have gotten his nickname the same way that he did in canon. Shigeo hates when people use that nickname for his brother.

-Both Shigeo and Mob struggle with controlling their powers.

Shigeo because he is too emotional and said emotion easily overtakes him, which makes it too easy for them to take over his actions and everything just goes south real quick

meanwhile, Mob on the contrary hide and represses his emotions too much, which stunts him a little bit and when he gets overwhelmed he loses control. He tends to block when he feels too much power building up because of what happened with Ritsu years ago

-Because he wanted to get his powers under control Mob is the one to join Reigen's office first after reaching out to him. Reigen sees usefulness in his psychic powers.

Eventually, Shigeo also comes along, not because he wants to help but because he doesn't really trust Reigen.

and as years passes by he feels like the man is just using them, but he can't convince his twin about it (and he doesn't want to upset Mob again about Reigen after the last time resulted in Mob avoiding him for a day).

-Shigeo is more spontaneous in general and tends to get himself in trouble. He actually gets into fight semi-regularly, and for that reason, he's the one that bears the White T-Poison name between the two. He does get scolded by both Mob and Ritsu all the time for getting into himself into fights, especially by Mob.

Some of the fights he picks are when people make any vague negative comments about Mob or Ritsu.

-The accident with Ritsu did happen, but Shigeo decided to bear the blame even though Mob is the one that cause the accident. Neither Ritsu nor Shigeo knows that Mob actually remembers, hence why he's scared of his powers and doesn't want to use them.

-Shigeo isn't scared of using his power, especially in very small quantities because he knows there is no way to blow up by accident. He's very casual about it and doesn't mind the attention it brings to him. He's also not as reserved to use them to fight.

-I think both Mob and Shigeo would have a rather good relationship with Ekubo. Mob is similar to the anime while Shigeo likes to banter and be mischievous with him (especially towards Reigen). Although he hates the nickname Shige-chan and he doesn't understand why Mob would ever let him call him Kazu-chan.

-Like mentioned above, Shigeo distrust Reigen and only sticks around because Mob grew to really look up to his shisho. He'll often pick fights with Reigen and he knows the man hasn't kicked him out yet is also because of Mob.

He was certain that after the separation arc Mob would finally understand that Reigen was no good to stay with, yet he still decided to stick around him.

I think only later on the timeline he'll only accept or at least start to accept Reigen when the man finally confessed to just being Reigen, a normal guy with no psychic powers. (maybe it's not quite the confession arc, something else, seeing that they are now not the same person).

-I think as time goes on, both Shigeo and Mob would learn to better control their power, which would make them pretty powerful.

Tho I wonder if two OP esper of (canon) Mob's calibre is good to have 😂 Although together they nearly act as one and are as powerful as canon should be. I feel like their being twin might cause their psychic power to resonate well together and fuse in a way and/or the balance each other pretty well

-I think with some work maybe they can developpe telepathy, but it would take time and training to actually makes it work properly.

Although even without working on that, I think they could sense each other's emotions easily, which could be a reason why Shigeo is the one that can guess how Mob is feeling the best despite him not showing it much

=Overall I think Mob would stay similar to canon, although with some tweaks to make the story work a little bit better with the idea of a twin.

I think Shigeo's characterisation as his own person can be pretty interesting, even while going from some canon point

-Also I think Mob would still join the body improvement club because he wants to be stronger like Shigeo, but also so he can get more popular and have a chance with Tsubomi (Now I wonder if Shigeo would also have a crush on Tsubomi 🤔)

-Of course, I love me some mrm, so of course the twin would eventually fall for our favourite conman And they sure don't mind sharing him

I’ve had this Tumblr for a molten minute and originally it was a Pokemon themed blog before I deleted my side blogs (a choice I regret every day). The Pocket in my user came from “Pocket Monsters” and the HEP was just tagged on because a lot of pocket monster themes names weren't available but younger me wanted to be open to having a blog that wasn't just 1 thing.

Now for the fics…

These are in no order whatsoever. This is based purely on fanfics that I love that no matter what I keep going back to, there are honestly a lot I could put especially if I think harder but its late and I'm typing on my phone.

Yesterday Upon The Stair by PitViperOfDoom on AO3. (My Hero Academia)

Genuinely an amazing fanfic, probably the best BNHA fanfic I’ve ever read which is a strong title to hold. It even has its own TV Tropes Page. It was Published in 2016 and I read it religiously. It had it all, Queerplatonic relationships, Drama, Angst, heartwarming moments, and realistic character depictions. It’s one of those fanfics that most people in the fandom know as “One of the Big Ones”.

A Breach of Trust by Phantomrose96 on AO3 (Mob Psycho 100)

Another “One of the Big Ones” and another fanfic that I’ve been following since it was published way back in 2016 (a wonder how 2016 had a lot of really great fanfics just like how a lot of good writing came from the quarantine). This is such a good fanfic, that really expands past the base content of the manga/anime and has a well fleshed out world as well as characters. It’s a drama that has a good dose of angst and I love the way the relationship between Mob and Reigen develops.

Normally I’d try to keep it one to a fandom with these types of lists/asks but Issho was really good. Once again has the bonus of being a fanfic from one of my favorite anime/manga. But it highlights one of my favorite characters, Teru, in a way that develops him very well over the course of the series. Issho is just the first of ten parts and I'd recommend reading all of them.

Salvage by MuffinLance on AO3 (Avatar the Last Airbender)

One of my comfort ATLA fanfics. A great amount of humor, angst, and a lot of found family. I absolutely adore Hakodad pics and Zuko honestly deserves it but Salvage has the plus of adding more additional siblings and a cute isopuppy because Zuko really deserves it.

fool in the moon by arahir on Ao3 (Trigun)

Despite having read the Trimax manga and having seen the original Trigun anime, I didn’t actually start reading fan fiction for it until Trigun Stampede paraded through…And BOY was I missing out. Although fool in the moon is a recent addition to the roster of amazing pics, it’s up there as one of my favorite. It’s a vashwood fic with a healthy dose of angst and comfort. I don’t know what it is but Trigun writers all have the ability to write the most visceral things.

One of the most cleverly written fics not just on this list but that I’ve read. I can’t recommend it enough, even to those that don’t ship satosugu. This is a hurt no comfort fic and the way my stomach sunk reading the date for one of the last messages is a feeling few people can replicate. It’s good all around. 11/10

Those Hands Were Meant To Love by Ahenix on Ao3 (Spy X Family)

I think this is one of the big fics for Spy X Family and for a reason. It’s fluff without plot, and I love a good bit of found family and fluff especially centered around my favorite “fake” family. I read this one a couple times last year because it’s cute and its only 6 chapters.

Cascading (In a good way) by Hubbleablubble on Ao3 (Genshin)

There are a lot of well written genshin fics but this one is my favorite both for the ship (Kaebedo) and that I enjoy the way the characters are written. I like how everyone was written in this. Although it’s only a chapter the pacing was great, especially as it told their story from strangers to friends to lovers. It also mentioned Khaenri’ah Royalty Kaeya which is a huge plus.

Starstruck by shizuoh on Ao3 (Yuri on Ice)

All that needs to be said is that the author basically created the Actor Victor Nikiforov tag on ao3. It’s a fic that’s been there since around 2016 when the show debuted and it hasn’t left my favorites for a while alongside a lot of others. Featuring the aforementioned actor Viktor, a barista/babysitter yuuri, and Yuri as a child caught up between the two. There are a lot of great’s and this is one of them.

Academic Intrigue by kassvea on Ao3 (Word of Honor)

It’s a modern AU, college/university AU with well written characters that are true to the original source. It’s a story about starting over, especially given the scandal at the start of the fic. I love the connection between Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing in all forms of media but this is one of my favorites.

It's been about a month since the start of the school year, and Kageyama has been coming over to the apartment multiple times a week, every week. He even came with Teru and Reigen for their usual out-to-eat Friday night dinner, just two days ago.

Kageyama certainly did not spend this much time with Teru before. Not even last year, when they shared a class at school.

There are three conclusions Teru has drawn as a result of this:

1.) He's almost positive that Kageyama has a huge crush on him, and -

2.) He's developed a pretty sizable crush on Kageyama in return, and -

3.) The only reason nothing has happened between them so far is because Reigen is always around.
