there’s a limit to how long you can let a phase go on before it’s just stagnation. jinx’s apathy and lack of motivation is a little out of character considering her decision at the end of season one, but i can see it as a temporary phase she would struggle with.
however, the show’s almost over and they’re not letting her do anything outside of it. it’s been 2/3 of the very limited runtime and she’s still not herself. she’s not scheming or planning, her homicidal tendencies, anger, insecurity, hallucinations, desperate need for connection, codependency, impulsivity, and willingness to be extreme are suddenly gone with no explanation, her usual strange anachronistic and unusual way of speaking and mannerisms are gone and have been replaced with mild sarcasm, and on the rare occasions they let her build something, it has no lasting effects and is immediately undone.
jinx’s creation of fishbones and the attack on the council was the culmination of her season one arc and one of the most dramatic moments in the entire season. but the effects of the rocket are toned down and brushed off. fishbones barely gets fired once before being torn apart by the hextech glitching, which doesn’t make any sense considering the gauntlets and rifle and sevika’s scar were all fine after the glitching stopped. her other guns are quickly disposed of as well, being torn apart by vi and overloaded by isha, and jinx only fires them a couple ineffective times before they’re scrapped. her bombs don’t do anything either, with a few harmless firework/smoke bombs being used as distractions and one that could actually do some damage showing up to magically un-lobotomize vander. she stops fighting back against piltover apart from one scene where she redirects the gray away from zaun and splatters a few buildings with paint. that can barely even be considered an attack. the arm that she builds sevika gets an interesting scene but it’s quickly reworked and destroyed as well. her inventions and creations are a huge part of her character and they’re stripped of effectiveness and meaning.
with better writing, maybe a slightly longer runtime, and shortening down some less necessary plotlines or cutting them out entirely to save them for one of the other shows they’ve said they want to make, it would be easily possible to show both jinx’s emotional vulnerability, grief about the loss of silco and disconnect with vi, connection with isha/sevika/zaun, and her usual weirdness and creativity and volatility. several of those things could be blended together and showed in the same scene. but they’re not.
they’re also just not letting her have any substantial effect on the plot or make decisions of her own. she doesn’t choose anything, she gets pushed along by the whims of others and what the people around her want. she’s not acting, she’s just reacting. and somehow her first thought upon seeing warwick is to go clean up and recruit vi? and then she doesn’t have any anger or complex feelings about the whole situation with vander returning but not silco? as soon as vander’s back she stops missing silco apart from when she finds his coat? she just cooperates with vi’s plan to get warwick healed and wanders around viktor’s cult aimlessly without a care in the world, letting everyone else do whatever while she sits around with isha? she doesn’t have anything she wants, she doesn’t have any goals, she doesn’t care about the piltover vs zaun conflict anymore, her anger about the entire political situation is inexplicably gone just like caitlyn’s.
i’m hoping that we get a few good moments in act 3, but considering that they just killed off isha right before the last act and now she’s going to be straight back to grieving, it’s difficult to keep my hopes up. also please no spoilers i haven’t seen the leaks and i don’t want to

If they had just showed Viktor’s cult without his work on Vander it would make so easy to dismiss his work as just “Midsommar: now with personality reworks, crazy magic and good intentions paving our way to hexhell”
But his work with Vander/Warwick showed us what were those good intentions and even good results to the whole thing. It showed us how, exactly, the glorious evolution could win and why it has such appeal to others and why Viktor will not give it up so easily when he comes back
It showed us how easy it would be to join this because the intentions and their herald are clearly good
Wouldn’t you like to live in this state of mind? No worries, no fighting, no suffering? You live in the undercity your whole life with a razor in your hand, blood in your knuckles, not enough food to eat, no air to breathe and no water to drink that doesn’t have 100 new types of chemicals in it
Aren’t you tired?

You just have to give away all your negative emotions at the door and become one with the rest of us hivemind style no biggy

Just got caught up to episode 6 of arcane and first of FINALLY THE WARWICK IS VANDER THEORY IS CONFIRMED.
The "riot please expand Warwick's lore" crowd has been fed beautifully.
In general I am excited to see how the champions end up in the present day in game forms.
Viktor is very much the "machine herald" but in arcane he still keeps his theme of GLORIOUS EVOLUTION although this time using Hextech as opposed to replacing humans with machinery. And a bit of void corruption??? The shapes of the Hexcore and the settlement later and marks on the people very much look like void corruption and void creatures like Vel'Koz are capable of pulverising life.
But in that, he is very much taking on the role of an existing champion called "Malzahar" - the prophet of the void taking on an almost Jesus-like role to the people of zaun. Viktor's announced rework is bound to be exiting as I want to see how they keep those two from turning into the same character. Or maybe they throw in a wrench and say that actually Hextech isn't connected to the Void at all?
Next up would be Jayce who in game has very much not been touched by the arcane. In game jayce is more akin to him before the hexcore incident. Although perhaps Arcane Jayce is something far removed from the stable timeline? No clue how they want this to match up with the in game version.
And third is suprisingly Orianna aka "Singed's daughter". Her lore got severely retconned in Arcane. Her father was changed to Singed as opposed to ghe actual piltovan merchant. And instead of replacing each failing part of her body with machinery until she was turned fully into a robot, she remains in a form of stasis. In Arcane they retconned her father to Singed and she's very much not a robot.
As for Warwick? They could just show Vander gradually turning more and more into a beast. He had so little lore to begin with that the Arcane lore might as well replace the scraps of Warwick's current backstory.
#arcane spoilers#just my two cents as someone who plays league and has some knowledge on the pre arcane lore#arcane#arcane season 2

Sunderland's Royal Jewel Vault (7/∞) ♛
↬ Glencairn Pearl Fringe
Despite being a relatively small addition to the royal vault, this sleek tiara has seen quite a lot of action throughout the decades, inclduing three royal weddings. Its start is predictable enough: its original owner was none other than Queen Alexandra of Sunderland. In Alexandra's time, the tiara was nothing more than an unassuming diamond bandeau, and it was never worn by the Winter Queen in public. Through Alexandra, the tiara was passed down to her granddaughter-in-law, Queen Anne, who wore the simple bandeau just once. By the time Anne loaned the tiara to her daughter-in-law, Esther, Duchess of Glencairn, the tiara had been collecting dust for a quarter of a century. Esther was the wife of Prince Michael, Duke of Glencairn, the youngest son of Queen Anne and King George II. Even by the most flattering accounts, the King's youngest daughter-in-law was a bit of a snob. To the Duchess, being the fourth-most senior lady of the land justified a tiara worthy of royalty. Esther altered the simple bandeau to her liking, adding a top row of pearls and scroll elements. This refurbished tiara, which accompanied the Duchess to many glitzy events in the 50s and 60s, became known as the Glencairn Pearl Fringe. By the early in 1970s, the tiara had another wearer. Esther's oldest daughter, Princess Mary, began wearing the tiara once she was old enough to embark on royal duties of her own. In 1981, Mary wore the tiara at her wedding to Jack Belgraves, afterwhich the tiara remained hers for good. Esther was the owner of at least five other tiaras, which were left to her daughters following her death in 1988. Following Esther's death, the tiara underwent a remarkable trasformation. The bandeau was reworked into a modified fringe tiara, with the oringinal pearls serving as toppers. Throughout the nineties, Mary reagrraged several of her mother's jewels, to varying degrees of success. As cousin to the current soverign, Mary still has royal duties on her roster to this day. As a result, the tiara has popped up at the occasional event. In 2012, Heather Belgraves continued tradition by wearing her mother's tiara on her own wedding day. Mary's daughter-in-law, Sabyna Belgraves also wore the tiara as a braidal diadem, but no pictures of the event ever surfaced.

thoughts on the new season so far??
i just watched the 2nd arc and bro .......
SEASON 2 SPOILERS AHEAD!
(and a big big biiiiig rant)
first things first! the artstyle is amazing!! fortiche made a reaaaaaly good job. the way we can clearly see and understand what the characters feel is so crazy yk?? this animation is the best thing lol related that riot spend its money on.
also, isha is the cutest child in the whole world and, if they die, im going riot on fking riot i swear to u, this child can't die! i would be so sad, really. but, now talking about the series itself, i do like how things are going but i just feel like its a bit rushed ?? idk but its just too much information all at once and everything is happening at the same time and aaaargh its all too much. i just ... cant process it all and be like "ok cool i liked it and understood it" no! i cant!! even though i play lol and understand a bit of its lore, its still hard to comprehend, especially now that almost every character that is both in league and in arcane is getting a full remake on their background stories.
but i do like some stuff, like the black rose and medardas stuff happening (and omg im dieing to see leblanc on the screen, i really want to see her), jinx and vi finally being able act like sisters again, the most heartbreaking angst i've ever seen (jayvik and caitvi), orianna my sweetheart!! finally appearing, more secondary characters screen time (sevika, singed, ekko, scar...), and some of the background stuff being revealed as the episodes goes on. its all good but theres just some thing that i personally dont like :/
such as viktor. yep.
he is completely different from his league self, and i know he is going to get a rework on the game soon, but i really wished he could make to his glorious evolution and all but instead he starts a cult????? something that he hated on the original lore???? bcs this meant that people looked at him like he was a savior, but he wasn't. he just wanted to help but people treated him like a divine being and he associated the things these people felt with being weak, so he despised them. he hated feelings and he stripped himself of those. but now he is a saint. and he have a cult. that him, the machine herald, started. idk its just not like him at all???? i just dont feel like its him. nor the sky (i dont think that the sky he sees is the real sky ok, i think its the hexcore) he talks to, she sounds so unlike her.
but oh boy he is pretty, bro is rocking his jesus era but i still wish we could get to see his full machine self. i really want to see him flesh and steel, augmented self, a complete mess of what once was human yk? but i think we wouldn't get machine herald vik :(((
also, another thing i didn't like is the warwick/vander. at first i thought he would be just like the game, but then he came to viktor's cult alongside vi, jinx and isha, and he aint the blood thirsty animal we have on the game and im a bit disappointed :(
oh and i wished that some of the league characters made to the series, like renata glasc, blitzcrank and janna, bcs renata helped viktor became what he is now in the game, blitz is viktor's invention and janna is the most knowed goddess in both piltover and zaun. so why not yk?
and jayce goddam talis putting a hole on viktor heart is just so ?????? what? yk????? im shocked but i understand him. he promised to destroy hexcore. and he did. but i didn't expected it to be like this!
i just watched the last episode and now im praying so hard, wishing that vik turns into machine since hes dieing. and if he does, be sure that i will be literally screaming. im going to be the happiest person in the whole world, i swear!
but overall, arcane is sooooo good but im a bit sad that they changed so much the characters lore. anyways, sorry for this big rant!! and if i typed something wrongly, im really sorry! im sleepy now but i needed to let my thoughts flow since i just finished 2nd act. oh and thank u for asking though, anon! :DDD

I dunno if it's been confirmed or if it's a headcanon that's gotten popular, but while I like the idea that Vi's full name is Violet Lane (For one it calls back to old naming schemes for people who didn't have surnames so they were named after what they were from, so 'Violet from the Lanes' and it mixes well with her pun 'Vi stands for Violence' Violence, Vio-Lane)
But personally I'm really into actually it being Violet Warwick, because not only would it be cool if Vander's surname is Warwick and since he was her father she took his name, but the revelation that all these years since his rework, the idea that Vi's father and surname have been sneaking just under the shadows for so long is incredible.

OT3 Verse Fic Writing Things
I should give Anne a birthday day.
Me: okay so John Dudley is Duke of Northumberland (possibly actually this is a 1530s thing? (I need to double check when he got that title)) and his oldest son has Earl of Warwick as like, the title before he inherits?
Jane Dudley will be one of Anne’s ladies in waiting and they will be friends - I just need to write that (it turns out there’s a bunch of flashbacks I need to do, despite the length and detail of the outline I wrote - or maybe not actually, just need to expand the earlier part of this chapter (that is already 4K) to include mentions of Anne’s ladies pre wedding and also Anne bonding with Jane when she’s pregnant.
I kind of gave the Dudley children a rough birth idea as per some sources I’ve seen and hopefully it works (also I think Guilford might be an age mate of Prince Thomas interestingly if we go by 1535 as a birth date).
Writing with CPTSD is So Fun in that I did in fact make detailed notes about a lot of this but I have lost it to Trauma Brain so I need to rework it again :(.

on league of legends do you still keep up to date regarding the lore of league of legends even though you dont play it anymore
Nah, not really. There's a lot to follow, lol.
I did hear my other boi Warwick (he was incredibly fun in the jungle after his rework) got introduced in Arcane in his original form, though.

i don't disagree with you in general, and i think there are characters who are kind of destined to die in some ways in the narrative arc of arcane. my money has been on warwick dying specifically at vi's hands and i think there's reasonable room for jinx and viktor's arcs to end in death, but i think the issue with killing/not killing champions isn't really that riot will or won't have the guts to do it and more an issue with the way lore and lore updates work. i don't play league bc i'm a fake gamer but i do love getting a phd in made up bullshit, and i think a big thing with the lore is that it has to strike a balance between being constantly-updateable-enough for things to feel fresh and new for players who care about that and being non-committal enough that the designers can do complete character redesigns/revamps without significant canon events like death feeling cheap.
like if a champion can canonically die but then in 5 years suddenly be resurrected with a whole new lore rework, i think you end up running into the marvel/dc problem of 'death doesn't really matter'. and while there are many issues to be leveled at riot and other live service esports games, i do think they generally strive to avoid a narrative precedent similar to comic books - even though they incorporate comics into their overall marketing - because it generally runs counter to their mission/philosophy/whatever that games are a unique storytelling medium and that riot specifically is a player-first developer before all else.
idk! i could be wrong. i think an interesting thing about arcane is how it has negotiated this problem thus far. so much of its dramatic pain and narrative brutality hinges on the premise that living with the fucked up consequences of your actions is sometimes worse than dying and so even if they killed no one at all in s2 i wouldn't really consider it a lack of boldness because the story isn't really rooted in the tension of mortality in the same way that something like game of thrones is. like death happens as a pointed and fucked up result of characters stepping and stumbling along in their journeys, usually to build emotional pressure in a storyline, and not to communicate something along the thematic lines of 'the universe is cold and cruel and it doesn't matter if you're a main character, you can die anyway'.
if some champions die, i will be interested to see how they handle lore updates going forward. like i said, i could fully be wrong and i already think warwick and to a lesser degree jinx and viktor are closer to the 'not long for this mortal coil' line than some of the other champions so! idk. november will be fun
I think about this interview a lot, primarily because of what Christian Linke says at 8:56:
“—We always said to ourselves that our first season should really establish our characters and get them to the point where they are pretty close to, you know, the version of the characters from our game. So…in a way it’s kind of like, really true to their origin story.
“Season 2–we definitely always wanted to take it further. To say ‘okay, now that we kind of know these characters and they exist (in our audience’s minds, also), where do they go from here?’”
He goes on to explain that characters will be becoming the opposite of what they were in S1, but I wanted to focus on this portion specifically because it’s the main crux of why I believe champion death and more aggressive canon divergence is an absolute possibility in Arcane S2.
Linke essentially said that the purpose of S1 was to be the origin story. S2 is pushing beyond that, which means they’re going beyond established lore and maybe breaking down parts of old lore. Whether that’s good or not remains to be seen by S2’s finale, but either way a lot of League players have told me online that champion death is simply not possible because Arcane is an origin story.
This quote contradicts that statement.

BTW, this is the other quote about how they added Ekko for the benefit of Zaun becoming a more varied region:
We liked Zaun because we've got a lot of villians from there but not many very appealing heroes (Vi moved to Piltover), felt we could strengthen the faction as well as tell better stories with Ekko being from Zaun.
It's really interesting that they considered Vi a hero even back then. So if Jinx considered amon those appealing heroes or was she part of the lack thereof.
It's also worth noting that at this point when they stated this, Warwick was still pretty much just unmitigated asshole scientist but he would get reworked to a more tragic/heroic backstory a bit after this.
@usotaku1147
I'm not sure it's the one, but thank you!
It might be though?
There are a lot of inspirations: we wanted to make a time-based champ that stood apart from Zilean, wanted to make a teenager, and wanted to make a character that shined a different light on Zaun.
Also, this super interesting to me
9)Ekko, like Vi and Jinx, does not go by his given name. Ekko was given to him by his friends.
So, are there any fandom theories about what Ekko's non-Ekko name might be? Super interesting btw that that stayed true while the stuff about Ekko being younger didn't stick
Also interesting:
Q: What champions can be Ekko's friends? And enemies?
A: Good question. I'm sure that Ekko would eventually put aside his disappointment with Vi, and maybe one day he'd befriend Caitlyn. But both of those are big IFs.
Enemies? Viktor, Mundo, Singed.
He doesn't think too fondly of Jayce or Ezreal most likely.
Also liked this bit about Janna:
He's probably disappointed in her, but since he most likely has never had a personal connection with her (like he did with Vi), doesn't take it too personally. She's one of the defectors. He thinks she gave up on Zaun, which is something Ekko will never do.

I used to be a Warwick main until he got rework. All of my friend say that the new Warwick is such greater in anyway. I agree but it didn't give me any hype I feel when I play old Warwick, when you cannot be counter-gank in 99% of the time, when you press W and your team just rush to tower, when I don't need to buy boots and can control the map easily. Since the Warwick rework, I had been playing ARAM for two seasons.
