One last round of photos from the Museum of Flight, this time of the Lego models I mentioned in the first set. Or rather, a few of the highlights because there were quite a lot more than just the ones here. These are all the work of a chap called Warren Elsmore and his team, because apparently a ‘brick artist’ is a thing you can be; the exhibition is called ‘Brick Wonders’ and starts out with the classical Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and then moves on to other impressive things. Wonder trivia: out of the original seven, only the Great Pyramid still exists and there isn’t actually any clear archaeological evidence that the Hanging Gardens ever did.

Everything You Need to Know About the Brick History Exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center

As we pointed out a few times already, the Brick History exhibit is at the Tampa Bay History Center – located at 801 Old Water Street in Tampa’s Channel District. More specifically, the Brick History exhibit is going on now through February 16, 2020, with tickets starting at $10.95 for children age 7 and up. Kids under the age of 7 are free. The Brick History Exhibit features important scenes from throughout history recreated by LEGO artist Warren Elsmore and his team. These scenes are separated into different categories, such as “The Arts,” “Conflict,” “Equality,” “Exploration,” and “Transport,” with scenes running the gamut from the first cave paintings and the destruction of Pompeii to the Boston Tea Party and the Civic Rights Movement. All in all, there are 28 LEGO scenes “depicting a person, moment or discovery that altered world history,” according to the museum.

Shrewsbury + Winners of Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery’s lego competition decided!

Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery are delighted to announce the three winners of the ‘Build Your Own Model’ lego competition.

The standard of entries across the three age categories was outstanding which provided a real challenge for the competition judge, Brick History creator, Warren Elsmore.

Entries across the three age categories covered a huge breadth of historical moments, periods and themes from the age of the dinosaurs to the industrial revolution and Roman coliseum to Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

The winners of the ‘Build Your Own Model’ competition are:

5 – 11: Alfie Hembrow-Forrester, The Flying Scotsman. Alfie, said:

“Oh wow! I am so pleased I have won this competition and found it very difficult to keep it quiet at school today!

“I love Lego so much and am always playing with it. Last year we went to Thinktank in Birmingham and I remember seeing a Steam Train towards the end. I love building vehicles and did some research on famous ones and found the Flying Scotsman.

“I thought it was perfect and started building but wanted to add some mini figures, especially Homer Simpson!”

12 – 16: Cal Adlard, Pompeii and the Mount Vesuvius eruption. Cal, said:

“I feel really pleased and excited that I have won. I didn’t expect to win. I’m really looking forward to seeing my model included in the exhibition.

“I got the idea for the Pompeii eruption because I have visited Pompeii, have learned about what life was like there, and the eruption at school.”

17+: Roger Lewis: Modern Gaming. Roger, said:

“Wow! We never thought they would get anywhere as we thought they may not be “historical” enough. Anyway, my nephew was playing Super Mario with his friend on my PC and said “Unc, can you build me the Mushrooms monster from this Super Mario game? Please?”

Warren Elsmore, creator of Brick History and judge for the competition, said:

“It was very tough to judge between the entries – there were so many great builds to choose from! The Flying Scotsman was very nicely designed and I loved all the little touches too. Whilst the Pompeii model might be a little more macabre than our model it certain put a smile on my face – as did Mario. In fact, I wonder if we should think about some games figures too? The blocky graphics work so well in LEGO!

“Well done to everyone who entered though – it’s always great to see people using their imagination and not only following the instructions!”

Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said:

“We’re delighted with the number of entries we’ve received and the standard has been fantastic. I’m sure the models we’ve seen are much better than I could manage myself!

“The fact that the winners’ models will feature in Brick History alongside professionally built designs is marvellous and adds a wonderful community angle to the exhibition. I’d like to congratulate the winners and all of you who entered the competition.”

The winners of the competition will see their models feature in Brick History for the duration of the exhibitions’ stay at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery.

On top of featuring alongside Warren Elsmore’s creations, the winners will receive up to £50 worth of Lego and 1 years’ free entry to the Museum.

Brick History opens on Friday 9 February 2018 and will take you on a journey through pivotal moments in human and natural history.

Rediscovering books in my personal library. I remembered when I saw this book called Brick Flicks by Warren Elsmore on the thrift shop near my apartment, I immediately ran to my roomies after buying. We decided to make our own but Lego minifigures are rare. :(
