Brew #345: Hellfest IPA  Brasserie Mélusine
Tumblr media
Abv: 6.66%
Served: From the fridge
Aroma: Pine, hint of caramel, orange
Pour: Dark amber, cloudy with frothy off white head with an ornage tinge, reducing to a finger
Taste: Big sweet malts up front with toffee and creme brulée washing into a decent hop bite. Light bitters and some fruit notes underneath. Medium dry with an aftertaste of cedar. Nice balance, weighed towards the malt and a traditional IPA style but enough fruit there to keep the flavour interesting.

Brew #123: Metalman Brewing Co. Ironmonger IPA
Tumblr media
ABV: 6.5%
Served: From the fridge
Aroma: Citrus, Caramel
Pour: Clear orange amber with a finger of off white froth
Taste: Toffee and caramel hit on the first wash with a big dry pine hit coming after. Nice malty finish with the toffee lingering in the aftertaste. This is a seriously hopped IPA which lives up to it’s name and strength, massive kick off it altogether but very nicely swings back round to those sweet malts.Outside of their early, ginger infused ale, Chameleon, which was one of the nicest ginger beers I’ve ever tasted, this is my favourite Metalman brew.

Brew #370: Independent Connemara Black IPA
Tumblr media
Abv: 6%
Served: From the fridge
Aroma: Coffee, malt, toffee
Pour: Cola black with frothy tan head bubbling down
Taste: Roast malted wash with shades of chocolate and caramel. Light coffee notes abound underneath and then some sweetness before the hop bite. A good black IPA that leans towards the stout end of things more than the hops. Coffee aftertaste is nice.

Brew #361: 8° Brewing Berliner Weisse
Tumblr media
Abv: 3.1%
Served: From the fridge
Aroma: Natural yoghurt, tart fruit
Pour: Pink tinged pale orange with no head
Taste: Very faint sweetness from the currants but an almost immediate tsunami of tart bitter rhubarb that doesn’t stop until you hit the dry smack of the final bite. A lovely sour rasp with aftertaste of sherbet. A good example of a Berliner Weisse, I love the sours but a little more sweetness up front wouldn’t go astray.
Notes: 330ml bottle, grain base - 50% wheat / 50% malted barley, red currant, rhubarb.

Taste: Big fruity hit which is washed away in that “zing” bang of lime and citrus. Wowee, some sour savage bite to it. This is a very tart IPA with lovely tropical fruit notes hiding in the background. The aftertaste is all lime!

Brew #358: Brewdog Nine to Five Wizard India Pale Wiezen
Tumblr media
Abv: 7.5%
Served: From the fridge
Aroma: Straw
Pour: Clouded dark amber with cream froth reducing
Taste: Weird creamy wheat with a heap of spicy grass and bitter hop bite. Some mild floral notes with that high alcohol cut. Interesting. I wouldn’t call it entirely pleasant. What I usually like about wheat beers is the citrusy bread flavour but here it’s more akin to a saison with the amount of peppery spice on the palate and the cut from the ABV is dampening any of that soft breadiness from the wheat. Cool can art though.
