I like how Rogue Trader starts with Kunrad trying to steal the Warrant of Trade that gives a Rogue Trader their power, but then when you actually see the Warrant it looks like this:

And yeah it’s Warhammer 40K so obviously it’s going to be stupidly big and impractical, but what was Kunrad’s plan here? How was he going to steal something that’s almost as big as the room it’s stored in? Even with his cultist buddies helping him out, it would’ve been a bitch to move even if everything went smoothly. Do you think he was even aware of how big it was? Was he going to walk into the Warrant chamber expecting like a tiny scrap of paper, only to be greeted by this house-sized document and realize his mutiny just got way more complicated?

Anyways Rogue Trader is an amazing game and I’m having a blast so far.

Warhammer 40k Rogue trader is wild.

So many bonkers and annoying things happen to me. I run my spaceship loosely, everyones fed and healthy and happy... so the lower crew decide to coup me 3 times and lose all 3 times.

I kill a planetary governor and replace her with an alien governer.

I save a religious colony from disaster... I give them autonomy instead of ruling them ... they immediately start in-fighting

I save many civilians from a warzone, they all go insane and die.

I take a bath and relax. Local mutants decide to dump vats of blood in my bath while im snoozing.

Crazy game.

Imagine that I've written a fully fleshed out essay about when video games make dickish, tangibly rewarding choices as easy as clicking a button, meaning that:

On the one hand, doing the right* thing - i.e. not torpedoing the trading outpost and willingly depriving yourself of the adamantine reward - only pays off in terms of moral satisfaction, which may very well be entirely undeserved since the trading post's inhabitants exist only in your imagination, not even alluded to in the flavour text

On the other hand, the game makes a point that it is often much easier to be a dick, and being a moral person will require genuine effort of you. You'll have to be motivated by something beyond material rewards or social status, since everyone in this setting 404s if you so much as consider talking to "the rabble", and it's more likely that your kindness will be seen a weakness

Maybe I'm just too committed to the RP.

*Which isn't to imply that not committing to an iconoclastic RP and/or just focusing on optimising your playthrough means that you, the player, are a Bad Person in real life
