You've been Sam and Colby's cameragirl for some time now. Usually, nothing too crazy happened to you in most investigations, but this time...

warnings: paranormal activity, reader getting attacked, near death experience, strangling(?), cursing, angst?

a/n: took a bit of inspo after watching the boys' video of the asylum, but nothing exactly like it. just the fact that the place is an asylum

As they were making their iconic intro and explaining what this new place was about, you made sure to have a sturdy pulse whilst filming them.

"Today, it's just me, Sam and our lovely cameragirl, Y/n." Colby said, letting you shift the camera towards your face and smile at it.

"Hello there." You said, making sure your face was extremely close to the camera, merely because it has become your way of introducing yourself.

"And since it's only us today like the good old days, we decided to make something fun. ALL of us." Sam explained to the camera and smirked, looking directly at you.

You batted your eyes, looking at them while they kept on smiling menancingly at you. "This wasn't a part of the contract." You said, gaining a laugh from both of them.

You zoomed onto his face and began talking with this soft, almost narrative voice. A voice you very well knew they enjoyed. "What is this oh so fun idea you seem to be hyping about, mr. Golbach?"

"Why thank you for asking." Sam nodded slightly, moving his attention towards the camera. "The three of us are gonna do a little challenge tonight." He clapped his hands together as you began unzooming the camera, putting Colby back on frame.

"That's right, we're going to walk alone, lights out throughout some of the most haunted corridors from this place." Colby continued. "The owners of this place told us it gets freaky when people are alone, so we thought this might get us some good activity."

"We have some cameras with nightvision but we're not gonna see shit." Sam added, "After a while, we all should find our way back to the main lobby."

"So stay until the end to see how that's gonna turn out." Colby says, getting close to the camera before covering it with his hand, making you stop the recording for the cut.

"That was pretty good." You said, looking at the video slightly.

"You're still good with the challenge, right?" Sam asked, looking at you. You scoffed.

"Please. I wouldn't have come if I wasn't sure about it. Remember you told me about it before the video?"

"I know, I know. Just making sure, you know how I am." He laughs. "Wouldn't want you to do something you're not comfortable with."

"You're saying that like we haven't known eachother for how long?"

He chuckles. "You're right. I'm sorry."

"Alright, so since we're all settled, should we start right away?" Colby chimed in, looking at both of you.

"Not yet. This place has some good cinematic potential, lemme cook first." You said, looking around with your flashlight.

"Aight, we'll let you do your thing, I'll go ahead and look for the equipment." Colby said.

"Oh, shoot. I forgot to ask the owners about something." Sam said, taking out his phone.

"Go out with Colby, I'll be here waiting." You said, fixing back your camera to start recording.

"Alone?" They both asked, looking at eachother and then at you.

"I do my best work alone, gentlemen. You know that." You begin walking towards the shadiest corridor you've seen in your life, without even looking back.

"Oh wow. Fearless. She's trying to do the challenge before us." Colby laughed.

"Alright, I'll be super quick. If anything happens, just yell. As loud as you can." Sam said, smiling.

"Copy that." You laughed.

In the blink of an eye, you were left alone. You were used to these type of things, so it didn't bother you much. You've somehow become numb to all of this paranormal adventuring.

And that was one of the main reasons why you liked to take control of the camera, since you were able to keep your cool in stressful situations, making it easier for the viewers later on.

Plus, you didn't know how to act on camera and they were the professionals... allegedly.

Whenever something odd happened, you made sure to try and record as much as you could, in the best angles possible. You liked to joke around and call yourself a professional in your craft, although sometimes it wasn't even a joke.

You were passionate about it. The videos and the ghosts, it was only natural to try and do more, risk yourself to do something more interesting and outgoing.

That's a piece of yourself they loved about you. You were simply a perfect match in their combo.

As you began to do your cinematic, you began to have shivers. A sudden draft of air passing through you, as if a window suddenly opened.

Looking around, there was no possible way of that happening. You were in the middle of the corridor, absolutely no chance of an air draft simply passing through so randomly.

You thought it might've been a bit odd, but nothing you haven't felt before anyways. While you kept on making some videos, an eerie feeling of someone watching crossed over your spine.

The sensation of a presence slowly getting closer to you behind your back.

Almost feeling the heat of another person behind you, towering over you.

Hurriedly looking back, you were met with Sam's hand almost touching your shoulder. He stopped midway, knowing he got caught trying to scare you. "You bitch." You spit out, making him laugh.

"Damn it!" He said mid laugher. "I was so quiet this time, how do you always seem to know?"

"I can feel you lurking closer, you stalker." You looked away from his gaze, trying to ignore the thoughts of his pretty face. You began walking back to where he came from, meeting Colby in the process.

"I'm not a stalker, if anything, I'm protecting."

"Quietly from the shadows, sounds like a stalker to me, but you do you." You smiled softly, looking at the confused Colby.

"I left for a second, what did I miss?"

"Stalker behavior, nothing else." You said, putting your camera up again and ready to record.

Colby shook his head from side to side, already being on your side of the story without even asking further questions. "I can't believe you brother."

"Wha- it wasn't-..." Sam sighed, defeated. He knew you were joking, so he wasn't going to win anyways.

You laughed and pointed the camera at them. "Ready when you are." They nodded and you began to record.

"So as you can see, in our hands we have some devices that we'll scatter throughout this first room. If you've been here before, you'll probably be familiar, but if you haven't, these are basically some motion censor devices that will let us know if something walks infront of it." Colby explained, turning one of the devices on and showing to the camera how it worked.

As they organized everything, the REM-POD immediately began beeping. "Oh, shit. That's the rem pod." Sam said, stopping on its tracks. "That was the temperature dropping."

You made sure the camera caught that as you got closer to it. "Oh fuck. I was feeling a bit cold since we got here." Colby added. "Alright. I think we're ready."

"Okay. If there's any spirit around that would like to communicate with us, we would like for you to use any of these devices we've put up for you." Sam started, as you made sure to get far enough from everything for the shot.

"You can touch these lights on the floor, or maybe this device I have on my hand." Colby continued, pointing towards the EMF reader. "We mean no harm, we'd just like to talk to someone."

A couple of seconds passed, looking around, waiting for something to happen.

"Maybe they don't want..." Sam began, before getting interrupted by the REM-POD beeping, making you hurriedly move your camera angle. "Oop. Nevermind. Thank you very much. Can you do that again if you're here with us? To let us know it wasn't something else?"

Silence filled the room for a while, before the device started to beep once again.

Excited, they began asking questions to this entity, expecting for it to be somewhat intelligent enough to give answers back.

Luckily, it was. It seemed to be someone that died inside the asylum, a woman. Curious about the story of this woman, they kept on asking questions. Some of them being answered, others being completely ignored.

Asides from the constant beep from their device, you heard a knock coming from one of the corridors. Quickly looking around, they stopped talking. "What?" Colby asked.

"Heard something." You whispered. The room went silent, followed by what sounded like footsteps getting closer. You turn the camera back at them and their faces were shocked.

"Holy fuck." Sam whispered.

"That was like... thumps. We're the only ones here, right?" Colby asked him.

"Yeah, we're supposed to be." Sam says, walking towards the place they heard the sound, quietly. You followed close behind. "Hello?"

Nothing. They kept on looking around, searching and at the same time waiting for something else to happen. "There's no one here." Colby says. "But that was clear as day."

"Super clear, the camera must've have heard that, for sure." Sam said, looking at you as you nodded. "That was crazy."

"Yeah, let's try something else but closer to this area, maybe it's more active." Colby said, and all of you nodded.

A couple of minutes later, and you were all set up. This time around, they turned on a spirit box to try and communicate better.

The idea was to first use it as normal, then for Colby to do the Estes Method.

And so, the spirits began to talk.

"What's this." It spat out. Colby and Sam looked at eachother, smiling.

"Hello, this is a spirit box, you can use it to communicate with us. Would you mind telling us who you are?" Sam said, looking around.

"Hello?"

"Hi, hello." Colby responded. "Who are we talking to."

"I'm scared."

"Scared? Scared of what?" Colby asked, furrowing his eyebrows whilst looking at the camera.

"Behind you."

They quickly looked behind them. "Oh, fuck. I hate that." Colby said, as you smiled at their gestures.

It quickly faded away when you felt the familiar presence of someone behind you.

Heart racing, you looked around for a second, but there was nothing there. It didn't mean the feeling went away, though.

"Monster. Care..." It seemed the audio cut before finishing the whole word.

"Monster... care?" Sam asked, confused.

"Or maybe it meant careful? Like, careful of the monster?" Colby questioned.

"It would make sense. What monster are you talking about? Is it harming you? Are you scared of this monster... or... person?"

It took a while before responding. Last thing it said, before a screech filled the radio was... "Run."

Quickly, they turned it off. They looked at eachother. "That was terrifying." Colby said. Sam nodded and sighed.

"Let's try and look around for some other place. This doesn't feel safe." Sam said and everyone agreed.

For the past hour of recording, moving around and joking here and there, you felt a bit uncomfortable. Usually, you weren't the type to get scared over the paranormal, but this place felt more eerie than usual.

You heartbeat has been increasing slowly, as well as a slight pain in your chest that quickly faded. You felt watched.

There was a point where you even felt slightly touched, quickly warning the boys about it.

Due to this, they almost discarted the idea completely, thinking you might be getting targeted, scared that it might do something to you. It took you a couple of minutes of convincing them to keep on recording before the conversation was dismissed.

You tried to brush it all off, as 'something you've felt before', but deep down you were really anxious about it. Perhaps it made you feel better to think about it being just the nerves.

But you weren't the type of person to feel these nerves for no reason.

"Hey, you good?" Colby touched your shoulder and whispered to you, noticing you seemed a bit weird. "You seem out of it today."

"Yeah, I'm good. I was just zoning out."

"Yeah, I noticed." He chuckled, looking into your eyes. "You sure you're okay though?" He raised an eyebrow, seemingly concerned. "You don't look well."

"What? Do I look like a ghost to you?" You asked, smiling, which quickly made him show that gorgeous smile you loved.

"More like you've seen one." You shook your head.

"I'm fine. I've just seen some shadows running in the corners of my eye, but nothing too big to point out."

He batted his eyes. "You've what?"

"Calm down, you know I see those things all the time. It's nothing new." Half of it was true. The other half, well... there was a chance you might've seen a whole figure standing close to a doorframe, but you felt your imagination was tricking you too much tonight, so you didn't say anything.

You weren't a psychic or a medium or something close to it anyways. If anything, you'd probably consider it more like a hallucination due to the constant lack of sleep you've been having lately.

"I know, I know, but still. You could tell us about it, you know? Maybe we all see the same thing you do and since you don't point it out, we don't notice."

You rolled your eyes playfully. You were about to say something, but a breeze passed through your ear, a soft whisper saying "Come play."

You jumped, covering your ear and walking closer to Colby. "Shit." You whispered.

Confused, he held your shoulders. "What? What? You heard something?" His worry was enough for Sam to stop setting the cameras up and walk closer.

"What happened?" He asked. You looked around where you were standing.

"Did you guys not hear that?" You asked, the shook their heads. "I heard something like... right next to me." When you said that, Sam began recording once again.

"Alright, so... apparently Y/n just heard something right next to her." He began explaining to the camera, pointing it at you.

"It was like a whisper, it.. uh... it just said 'come play', like, the creepiest shit you can say. I even felt the air on my ear, that shit made me jump." You tried laughing about it to not let the mood down, but it wasn't working much.

"Although I really want to, maybe we shouldn't do the challenge." Colby said, looking at Sam straight in the eyes, genuinely worried.

"Guys. Come on. Don't back down when we're this close." You said. "We're basically done for tonight, this is the last thing we're doing and we're out, right?"

"...yeah." Sam whispered. "Let's..." He sighed. "Let's do it. Just like she said, we walk through the corridor and come back straight away."

Althought skeptical, Colby nodded. "Fine. Let's hurry up then. The quicker we begin, the quicker we're leaving this place."

And so, everyone held their cameras and said their goodbyes. The three of you went through your respective corridors and began walking, alone, with no light.

"Alright guys. I'm not good at, like, talking to the camera but I'll try." You sighed, pointing the camera at your face while slowly walking the dark corridor.

"Honestly? I'm usually not as creeped out when we come to places like this, but this one is like... up there. It's giving me the chills, making me paranoid, I feel like I'm... seeing thing. Or maybe I'm just sleep deprived. That's... that's also an option now that I think about it."

Looking around with the camera, although it's absolutely useless, you started feeling out of breath. Almost as if the air didn't reach your lungs anymore. "It feels... hard to breathe." You took a deep inhale and shakily exhaled.

You gulped, your throat suddenly feeling dry as the lack of oxygen was evident.

"I'm just gonna walk... faster. I wanna get this over with..." And so, you did. But the further away you got, the worse it all felt. You felt your vision starting to get blurry although you could barely see anything.

You paused as your vision began to get used to the darkness.

At the end of the corridor, what you could shape out like a human figure was standing there. Seemingly the same one you barely saw before.

This time, it didn't seem to go away.

You were also alone.

Unable to breathe.

You don't know when it started, but you were unable to breathe properly. You choked, trying to regain yourself from the feeling.

Your neck feeling tight, your stomach hurting at the sudden feeling.

Putting your hands on your neck, you coulnd't feel anything that would make you feel this way. You started to get worried.

You felt as if you were being choked. You tried to scream, but all that you could spat out from your lips was a soft, quiet, 'help'.

Trying to turn around and walk back, you saw the figure again and got scared, falling towards the floor. You coughed for air, sucking back as much as you could but being unable to.

Leaving the camera behind, you tried to crawl back to where you came from, but the lack of circulation on your body failed you as you coulnd't handle it anymore.

Your body falling on the floor, the camera seemingly recording your movements come to a halt.

Your eyes closing, leaving you unconscious.

It didn't take long before Sam and Colby got back to the lobby. Waiting for you, something seemed off.

They knew the corridor wasn't as long as theirs. You should've been the first one out by that logic. They've been waiting long enough and they were starting to get worried.

Even though the concept of the challenge was to be alone in the darkness, the idea of you being in trouble was too much to bare.

Heck, even if you were pranking them, the anxiety of you not coming back on time was driving them insane, they were ready for a scare if it had to come to that.

But the scare they were expecting wasn't the one they got.

Minutes of walking and calling out your name came to a stop when they saw you on the floor.

Hurriedly, they ran towards you and fell to the floor, yelling out your name. "This isn't funny, Y/n!" Sam yelled, moving your body, only to notice how cold you felt. His heart sank.

"Y/n, come on!" Colby said, putting himself on the other side, looking at Sam. The color from his face was gone when he felt her body. Colby, worried, touched your body and understood why he looked that way. "Oh, fuck. Fuck!"

Throwing the camera to the side, Colby quickly checked your pulse. "Sam. Call 911. This is serious." You still had a pulse, but you weren't breathing. First thing that came to his mind was CPR.

While Sam began to call, Colby was trying as hard as he could to help out. He began doing mouth to mouth, trying to bring some oxygen back to your lungs.

Tears streaming down both of their faces. Colby started making compressions to your chest, while Sam was talking to the 911 dispatcher and using the flashlight to illuminate Colby.

Luckily, they weren't too late. You began to cough and moved to the side to spit out some saliva. You breathed heavily and both of the guys sighed in relief.

As you tried to catch your breath, they softly held you up in place while your color came back to you. You blinked a couple of times, adjusting your view to your surroundings.

When you looked at them, they hugged you tight. "Fuck..." Sam whispered. "Let's get the fuck out of here right now." He held you softly and helped you out, as Colby grabbed all of the cameras.

It was hard for you to walk. It felt as if a ton of weight was keeping you from even standing up. It felt as if your limbs went numb, the lack of oxygen probably acting up.

Sam noticed, and didn't hesitate on holding you up and putting you on his back so that you could rest. They began walking as fast as they could, reassuring you that you will be fine.

You were focused on getting your breath back while listening to them scream at the spirits.

"You are not allowed to follow us home." Listening to Colby talk like this, while taking all of the equipment made you feel light. You started moving your arms and made sure to hold onto Sam, closing your eyes.

"You'll be okay. We're leaving." Sam reassured you, waiting for Colby to grab everything and get out of there in a rush.

After the police arrived and handed you an oxygen mask, you started feeling much better. You had some marks on your neck, like some hands were just squishing the air out of you.

Your body... at first, you could even see your veins pop out of your legs because of your lack of color. The poor circulation that ran through your body for a couple of minutes really drove your body to its limit somehow.

It took you a while to be able to stand on your two feet again, but before the police left you could walk on your own just fine. Sam and Colby however still managed to help you out.

"Let's head back home." Sam whispered to you. You nodded slightly and tried to walk on your own, only to be held up by Colby.

"Don't force yourself right now. You need some rest." He said, taking you back to the car. Your face having a rush of blood because of the gesture.

"I... I can walk."

"Let us do this. Please. It's too much already that you fainted right when we weren't with you." Sam said, looking at you, your heart racing at the look of his blue eyes upon you. You gulped.

"...f..fine." You said, resting your head on Colby's chest, making him smile.

actually now that you've finished AM and re: Paired Endings, did you get the paired endings you wanted? I remember when I went in blind and didn't know how the hidden support points system worked in regards to paired endings, I ended up with exactly no paired endings I was expecting or hoping to get, and a few people I knew playing the game at the same time as me ran into the same "wait, how does this work" conundrum bc we all went and got everyone to A or A+ supports with everyone else and therefore had a roulette wheel of paired endings.

also just in general, how did you enjoy AM?

I barely knew paired endings were a thing so I wasn't aiming for any one in particular (although I'm upset by the Felix/Ingrid one. I'm sorry Ingrid, you deserved better).

That said, having paired endings almost hidden from the player if you don't know (I'm guessing it's a selection of the A/A+ support pairs, but if you have multiple it selects one based on which has the highest support points) is... really weird. Why not just have S supports at that point and give the player the active choice of which paired ending they want?

As for Azure Moon itself, I quite enjoyed it! Dimitri's journey is the good shit, his relationship with Edelgard is just tragic and overall it's a really nice personal narrative.

But for the larger narrative, well... I have questions. And they are not the good kind.

Let's start with the smaller things first - Sothis.

Why is she even in the game?

I'm saying this as a huge fan of her- I adore her, I think she's so much fun. That said, if she's barely going to have screentime in White Clouds and is completely absent in Part 2, why even pretend she's going to be a primary character if she barely features in it?

I enjoyed Ch9 and 10 with her because she finally had her time to shine, taking initiative, coaxing Byleth into investigating a bit more and being a little gremlin when she convinces them to eavesdrop on Rhea. She finally has the presence she should have always had, but then she merges with Byleth and... that's it.

Poor Rhea is in an even worse situation in Azure Moon, being completely absent in Part 2. They tell you she has been secretly been imprisoned in Enbarr all this time but they never tell you why (my guess is it has something to do with Edelgard's monster form?), and then when you beat the game... Nothing.

Just a small line telling you she has retired and moved to Zanado.

The poor woman feels like a complete afterthought in this route.

Speaking of things feeling like an afterthought in Azure Moon, the Dark Snakes (the personal name I'm going with for Those who slither in the dark because I hate that name so goddamn much).

In White Clouds? Hyped up as a major antagonist.

In Azure Moon Part 2? Nowhere to be seen properly.

You only get Cornelia and Volkhard who have been very blatantly replaced with members of the cult, and yet no one seems to notice.

Dimitri will say straight to your face Cordelia's whole demeanor changed around a decade prior but never think "hmm, this sounds familiar", despite him mentioning Kronya a few chapters prior.

They appear in the final chapter but only as an extra boss you can stomp to get rid of a bunch of soldiers, and again - barely acknowledged. The rest of them flee when you kill their leader so the Snakes are still around scheming, but this is never addressed in Azure Moon, not even in the endings.

And I am not accepting "it will be explained in the other routes" as an excuse, because if you're going to treat every route as its own game, then the narrative of every single route has to stand on its own.

As it stands, the Snakes in AM only exist to make Edelgard look better by comparison in White Clouds and are almost completely ignored in Part 2.

And speaking of Edelgard - we need to talk about the whole deal with Fòdlan's unification.

This game is... weirdly fascinated with the idea. I can understand why Edelgard views it as an ideal - of course the future Emperor of an Empire would have an imperialist mindset.

The problem is that several other characters and the narrative itself portrays it a good thing, when if you think of it for a few minutes... It's not. The mere existence of the Kingdom and Alliance as well as two of the major wars in Fòdlan being for their indipendence proves that.

And look - Fòdlan has many, many problems. Rampant racism and xenophobia, class inequality exacerbated by Crests, you name it. But it being united under a single banner, especially if by force, does nothing to solve any of the issues and arguably makes them worse.

Hell, as fucked as the status quo at the start of the game is, at least there was a clear harmony between the four powers, and Fòdlan had been at a state of relative peace for almost a millennia until Edie did her, um, thing.

Shamir has a line where she mentions Fòdlan will probably split again eventually, and she's right - it's increasingly clear that Fòdlan being governed by a single power does not work.

Also I know I barely know Claude at this point especially because he's deliberately written as hard to read but I'm sorry- him just giving the Alliance to Dimitri is bullshit. Both because of what it represents, both because I don't buy it at all he would just do this (especially with Verdant Wind existing), and especially because you really want me to believe every single noble would be ok with rejoining under the Kingdom they declared indipendence from two centuries ago?

So the narrative ends up saying "oh it's not that Edie's ideals of a unified Fòdlan are fundamentally wrong- no, it's her methods and the fact that she wants to destroy the Church". And the cynical side me is thinking that in the large scale of things, the main difference between the routes is choosing which war criminal gets to govern the whole continent.

So while overall I enjoyed Azure Moon, I can't help but notice so many warning signs for things to come.

every book i read in september!

this has been a very weird and depressing month for me, but at least i got a lot of reading done 🙃 a few v long books and some others i raced through, let's get into it!

The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman

I had just started The Silk Roads (more on that later) at the end of last month when I got covid, and decided to switch to something a bit easier. Luckily I had this on hand, and it was absolutely perfect. I love this series so much, and I think this may have been the best one yet. Very good!

The Silk Roads by Peter Frankopan

My first foray into reading history for fun, one year post-history degree, and boy was this a bad place to start. I don't have a problem with the book overall, I just don't think it was right for me. I'm used to very focused studies of one particular historical period, so I found the broad-ness of this quite disappointing; it covers essentially all of human history in around 600 pages, so naturally can't go into great detail about any part of it. I found myself slightly bored and not learning anything new about periods I was already knowledgeable about, and being left wanting to learn much more about periods I wasn't already knowledgeable about. Again, this is definitely a problem with me rather than with the book - when I dip my toes into history again, I'm for sure going to go for something very specialised rather than something broad.

Slow Horses by Mick Herron

My parents love this series and we've been watching the tv show together since it started, and the book does not disappoint! It's about a group of, essentially, reject spies, who accidentally find themselves at the centre of a terrorist plot. I did find myself imagining the characters only in the way they're portrayed in the show, but that didn't impact my enjoyment (also I could not remember the plot at all, which helped).

Penance by Eliza Clark

This book has been sitting on my shelf for over a year, and I finally got around to it. It was good but, for me, didn't live up to the huge amount of hype. It's a faux-true crime story, using the conventions of true crime writing to tell a fictional story and criticise the genre. As someone who enjoys true crime but also thinks critically about it, I've read a few of these kinds of novels, and to be honest this one is not the best (I would recommend Devil House by John Darnielle or The Curious Case of the Alperton Angels by Janice Hallett, for anyone who's interested).

I was actually really enjoying it until the ending, which seemed tacked-on and didn't really make sense with the rest of the book. It kind of felt like a random plot twist just added to make the book seem more edgy, without actually saying anything more than ''sometimes journalists twist the truth''. It also didn't feel like it mattered very much, since the reader knows the entire story is made up. Kinda disappointed, especially since I know people who really love this book.

Complicity by Iain Banks

This was fantastic! It follows a journalist who is investigating a series of grisly murders and unexpectedly becomes the prime suspect. Much more gruesome than I expected, and even though I figured out who the killer was fairly early on, it still kept me hooked. I loved the use of flashbacks and multiple perspectives, both of which made it much more tense and exciting. Would highly recommend!

The Examiner by Janice Hallett

Hallett is one of those authors whose books I will literally take a detour and immediately buy if I see a new one in shop windows. All of her novels are stand-alone crime novels with quite different subjects, but they're all told through documents, like emails, text messages, call logs, etc. They're basically the book equivalent of found footage, and it works SO well. This one is set in a university, focusing on a small class of postgrads and the mystery surrounding their final project. In addition to things like text messages and emails, the book includes sections of the students' essays and marking feedback to tell the story. It has one fantastic twist, and it definitely one of my favourite of her books yet!

The Castle by Franz Kafka

I really wanted to love this, but it turned out to be one of the most difficult books I've ever read. The prose is impenetrable; trying to read this book feels like wading through quicksand. Every few minutes I would be flicking through to see how many pages I had left, which is very uncommon for me. I feel the need to clarify that I'm a very strong reader, and usually enjoy difficult novels, but this one didn't feel rewarding enough to make up for the complexity. The narrative is unsatisfying and feels completely pointless; I understand that that basically is the point, but I didn't feel compelled by it. Unfortunately this was not for me at all.

Currently Reading + On My Radar

I am currently reading The Night Manager by John le Carré; it's very good so far, and the perfect antidote to a slow-moving, plot-less book hangover. Since next month is October, I'm planning to read some spooky things. I have some horror novels on my tbr, like Sheep's Clothing by Celia Dale and Rouge by Mona Awad, as well as Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, which I'm reliably informed is horrifying. Looking forward to it!

Kaz and Yeager Moments part 2

This might be spoilers for anyone else who hasn't watch this series yet. I have been re-read my old notebooks, there are some my favorite moments with these two so I decided to write these here.

Yeager checks on Kaz trying to send a message to the resistance. As Kaz thinks he could send a message through the transmitter, it turns out Poe is already standing behind them, surprising them.

When Poe is going to take Kaz for investigate, Kaz is excited but asks how they will get out the colossus without the first order noticing, Poe tells Kaz his plan is crazy but it might work. Yeager immediately knows Poe's plan.

"Oh no, you're not thinking of pulling a widow maker, are you ?"

"Widow maker ? I'm not even married."

Yeager playfully slaps Kaz behind his head as Poe warning "Given how dangerous this will be, that's probably a good thing."

Kaz rushes back to Yeager's repairs with Torra and CB-23, he askes Neeku where is Yeager. Neeku says he's in his office but he immediately knockes on the door when Neeku saying he doesn't want to be disturbed. Yeager tells him to go away but Kaz needs to talk with him about the first order making Hype and Aunt Z disappeared. Yeager lets Kaz, Torra, and CB-23 enter his office. It turns out, Captain Doza, Torra's father is with Yeager.

Yeager tells that he and Doza want to find a way to take down the communications blanket so they can coordinate with the resistance and kick the first order out. Kaz says they don't have time for that

"If we don't act now, we will never see our friends again !"

Yeager thinks about it as calling Kaz. Kaz responds "What ?" "You're right, good luck." Which Kaz is surprised then saying "Thanks Yeager." Before he left Yeager's office with Torra and CB-23.

After Commander Pyre and the stormtroopers caught team fireball for conspiring against the first order, he is gonna impound the fireball ship. Tam is shocked.

"You can't impound the fireball..." She then stared at Kaz and Yeager "..tell them this is all a mistake." Kaz and Yeager start to feel guilty to put Tam and Neeku in danger.

When Commander Pyre shoots Bucket off of the platform, Yeager is shocked as Kaz pulling him back as telling they have to keep moving. Fortunately, Bucket turns out to be fine thanks to chelidae.

Kaz, Yeager, Neeku, and CB-23 make it to enter Yeager's office, Kaz noticed Tam is gonna be captured but Yeager tells Kaz to get inside now as closing the door.

Kaz is panicked as asking why didn't she come and Yeager says that she is confused as escaping through the vents.

During sneaking through the vent, Neeku is confused why the first order chasing them. Kaz feels it's about time to tell him the truth. As he telling that he is a resistance spy, Yeager is shocked hearing as stare them.

After they found the hiding place, they are planning to send the message to the resistance. Kaz has a crazy idea "What if we take on water and drop the Colossus under the ocean ?" Which everyone is so shocked. Yeager says this will destroy the station but Kaz tells Yeager to hear him out.

Yeager listens Kaz's crazy plan that Kaz thinks it will work, he has a doubt about this plan but it is the only way to send the message to the resistance. He follows Kaz and CB-23 swimming to the top of the tower.

Yeager tells Kaz "I know you're not the most experienced spy but I'd fight alongside you any day."

Right after CB-23 sent the message to the message, Kaz is shot which Yeager is shocked seeing him get hurt. Yeager sacrifices himself after he saying good job to Kaz. Kaz is shocked as Yeager pushing him into the sea to escape from the first order. Next, Yeager orders CB-23 to help him and letting himself captured by Commander Pyre and stormtroopers.

This is great this car is great I help design it and you can tell it's kind of square that's funny it is funny I like it that way yeah Chevy looks like that okay but anyways I think this would be nice and they're talking about a pilot factory and with a lot of women because of women are bored and yeah we probably have some make us lunch like hot cakes and it can be part of us like a the bubble gum rally and something like this this is a fun idea he says to pick a Pontiac plant and we can set it up and make a bunch of them and see how it goes and make an agreement contingent upon sales and things in that area and if it fails it fails but it would be like nice to have an area that's not like that hard to work in and he says that part and I think it's correct it's a great idea and Trudy is her name and yet you got the first one again oh yeah that's right

I'm around 180 pages into Last Argument Of Kings now and this time around I have to jot some thoughts down in the middle of reading (I swear to god these books are killing me....like I have trouble concentrating at work now that I'm nearing the ending. I just want to read)

First things first: I was right about Jezal! He is king now (just finished the chapter where he makes West the new Lord Marshal). I never should have doubted myself. By the time he actually gets appointed though, I think it was pretty obvious. Bayaz kept hyping him up since basically his first chapter. So it wasn't surprising, but it's always nice to be proven right^^

Also Ferro laughing her ass off, when Jezal gets presented as the next possible king and then again when Bayaz lists all his "accomplishments" was hilarious

Jezal himself also really flip flops between his old ways and being more humble and it's gonna be interesting (and worrying) how that progresses now that he's king. I do really love the little moments, when he thinks about how Logen would react to things.

soooo... if Bayaz planned to make Jezal king since the beginning, then the logical conclusion is that he had Prince Raynault killed. And since Glokta gets threatend by Valint and Balk not to investigate the murder further, he might also be behind them.

Sulfur is back. I think he's the one that actually killed the prince (and that he's the guard that disappeared).

The description of the body indicates that he also might be an Eater and that could be the reason why he wasn't part of the quest in BTAH. Right now it's my understanding that Eaters have to keep eating human flesh. Jezal also didn't recognize him as the Tanner, even though he found Sulfur pretty irritating in TBI and you would think he would remember someone with heterochromatic eyes. So maybe altering his appearance could be part of his Eater-abilities? Then again Jezal is not the brightest candle on the cake and it makes no sense why Sulfur wouldn't alter his eyes, too. And I guess it's also possible that he staged the death to look like it was an Eater to blame Khalul/Gurkhul?

But we do know there was/is an Eater in Adua since TBI and I guess Sulfur is my best guess. Bayaz already wants to mess with the first law, so I can easily see him having no moral problems with breaking the second law, too... it seems useful to have an Eater on your side

Quai also now straight up says that Bayaz can't be trusted and I am inclined to believe him. Not sure on his vengeance motive, though. Vengeance for what? The state of the Old Empire? Is he gonna betray Bayaz?

Gloktas dreams are something I didn't pay too much attention to (mainly because I thought I couldn't understand them yet), but the last one got me thinking. So it's a woman's voice. The voice demands the seed. The death of Kanedias is referenced...I think it's Tolomei. Like she would have the right blood to be able to handle the seed. Which means she's alive (or at least not entirely dead) and that Bayaz lied about the story. It was only Bayaz up on the roof with Kanedias and Tolomei, so I think that's the part of the story where we are missing key information.

So I'm guessing Tolomei is responsible for Gloktas dreams and for the nightly visit Logen, Bayaz and Quai got in TBI, when the room turned cold and Bayaz torched the place. Also I don't think she's an Eater and everything she's able to do is rather connected to her bloodline and the other side

Everything regarding the seed confuses me. Like it's mentioned that the Magi searched for the seed in the house of the maker after Kanedias was dead and couldn't find it... but then it was Juvens, Kanedias and the other brother who supposedly brought it to the island for safekeeping (obviously before they all murdered each other)... so why were they even searching in Adua? Maybe I'm misremembering things. I do think it's probably in Adua, possibly even in the house of the maker (how else is Glokta supposed to find it?). Also the house of the maker seems like a perfect setting for some kind of showdown.

Everyone keeps ignoring the warnings that the Gurkish are coming, so with every new chapter in Adua I kind of expect war.

Also I'm starting to get suspicious that we never even met Khalul. That seems strange to me. With Bethod we get at least a little glimpse of him and the closest people around him.

Apparently Khaluls apprentice now knows all about the quest for the seed, but I have no idea what that is supposed to tell me. Also if it wasn't obvious already, I'm back on my Bayaz-is-the-true-villain-bullshit (with a little sprinkle of Tolomei-is-somehow-involved), so I'm a little worried that I only have a little more than 400 pages left

I don't have much to say about the North. Except that I'm very worried that Logen either dies or that he kills his own friends while having one of his Bloody-Nine-episodes.

I think i’ve never read so many fanfic before lol (however for other pairs i had been interested before, there isn’t that many content, so it’s difficult to compare). i do love reading the various interpretations of Yosuke (and Yu/Souji) in those.

Although I had some knowledge about the game and it’s story beforehand (i even found a post from a person who seemed to actively disliked him, but i didn’t pay much attention to it at the time), i had no idea i would get so attached to him but it happened right from the beginning - falling into trash cans is truly remarkable.

I loved his initiative to start the investigation, the immediate chemistry with the Yu/Souji, and I was super hyped with the og trio: Yu/Souji, Yosuke and Chie.

I loved his Shadow arc (although it works, it’s sad we don’t get an actual dungeon for that like the others (same for Chie)) and his SL <3<3<3 (also his appearance in Marie's and Naoki's SL, although, for Naoki I prefer the manga adaptation, since in game it revolves more around Yu/Souji).

The game starts pretty harsh on him: learning that the girl he was interested in (and one of the only people that seemed to understang him at the time) has died and the last words he hears from her are not the ones he expected to hear. And learning about how lonely he feels in that town, and how his happy silly self is a facade, it was ... sad and depressing. It really made me get really attached to him.

And yet he keeps being the guy who takes a lot of initiative inside and outside the investigation.

I love how he is so silly, and smart, and he also looks really cute tbh (extra hella moe in the dancing game and super cute chibi in the q games. Him and Naoto are super gender, especially looking at them in the dancing game ;;).

Seriously, I love how he is such an idiot sometimes (derogatory and affectionate), how he talks without thinking, sometimes... it's part of his charm.

But i also love how smart he is, and also dedicated (not only in the investigation, but for example he does show, with the motorcycle license scene, that he can put effort in goals he intends to achieve, and if he is motivated, but it also shows how anxious he is and how he is afraid of failing or staying behind).

I also love how he can say such beautiful things sometimes (SL!!!), but sucks at texting (i can't read that fr).

It made me so happy whenever i could just select the nice dialogue options for him (like right at the beginning when Saki mentions he can be a bit nosy sometimes and you can tell her he seems to be a nice person) and how you can choose to hug him in the SL :'')) (btw i didn't know you needed to unlock something in a previous rank to get the hug option, so i was very proud that i got it right at first without knowing it).

Even though i can’t relate 100% to him, there are a lot of aspects that feel kinda relatable, even more if i think of myself when i was his age, in game. Mainly the anxiety, loneliness and sometimes being just silly to hide true emotions/feelings. However he is totally a more outgoing person than i could ever be.

I know he is a somehow controversial character (i mean, the game itself is) but i actually try to avoid the mean comments towards my faves so i rarely see those. i’m just aware there are. i love seeing the content from other people who like him though c: and there is lot of good content, i’m always well fed.

I think it’s fine if people don’t like a character or make thoughtful critics if something upsets them about a media they are consuming, critical thinking is always good, and we do not need to like the same things. As long as people are respectful, I am just fine and that’s it.

I've been seeing the hermit!Tommy AU floating around, so I'm currently obsessing over it. But, hear me out, what if, there was also another new hermit? What if the reason Tommy got to another smp was a portal, that opened up just as he jumped from the pillar? Tommy finds himself on Hermicraft, not knowing where he is and how to proceed next. He ends up doing his racoon arc that he would have with Techno.

Meanwhile Dream knows that Tommy is gone. Kinda upsetting to him, he had big plans, but life moves on. He hypes up Tubbo for the visit and Tubbo spends the day chasing Techno with the butcher army. And then the night comes and Tubbo happily takes his compass, maybe a few gifts for Tommy and leaves L'Manburg. Cue the scene where he sees the pillar, the holes and assumes the worst. He feels like he's going to pass out, but there's this really weird buzzing and he just has to check it out, you know? Tubbo finds a strange portal and falls into it by accident.

Both boys sneak around the server, because they want to obtain information, but what if they also looked like their skins? The hermits swear they can see a blonde thief, but their height varies, as well as their clothing.

When Tommy gets found, he panics and says his name is Tubbo. He's not gonna go around screaming his real name, what if they bring him back to Dream? So the hermits try to welcome "Tubbo" to the smp, and slowly learn that's he's a traumatized teen and they should not set fireworks near him, touch him or brandish axes. They do note that the boy never takes off his mask and protects a small compass.

When Tubbo gets found, he tells the truth. His name is Tubbo and he fell through a portal. They bring him to Xisuma and the admin starts to investigate the case. Meanwhile they give Tubbo a tour and he's so amazed by the builds he sees. They even help him build a small hut where he can store his items. They do notice his suit, his scars and the compass.

And now to the fun part:

Tommy and Tubbo share some traits, but their personalities are different. The hermits talk between each other, so they all know about this new boy named Tubbo. But somehow they find everyone has a different experience. Some say the boy is loud, curses way too much and uses cobblestone as his main building material. Yet others claim that the boy is more silent, almost never curses and uses wood as his main building material.

But both the boys have a moment when they are silent or loud, so people assume it just depends on what mood they catch Tubbo in. And both boys also use wood AND cobble, so again, the hermits assume it depends on which building they saw first. What they can all agree on however, is that the boy is skinny, wears a compass, hates fireworks and loud sounds in general and is quite talkative. However, no one seems to agree on how the boy dresses or how tall he actually is.

Reality is, that people always know only Tubbo or Tommy and each of the boys build a home in a different part of the server. If the boys tell someone something deeply personal, the hermit doesn't share it with others, only trying to comfort/help the boy. However with big events like wars and limited respawns, this unspoken rule doesn't apply. Tommy wonders how do they know about the war and assumes Xisuna just got close to figuring out how to get him home. Tubbo smiles when they tell him he has infinite respawns and assures them he wasn't worried about that.

Life goes on, the boys learn how to start healing and they start settling down. And then Xisuma makes an announcement for everyone to meet in the town hall and to bring Tubbo. So one group grabs Tommy, who honestly thinks Xisuma knows everything because they are an admin, while the other brings Tubbo, who is so excited to be able to return home. Except when they arrive to the hall, Tubbo hears someone else exclaim "We brought Tubbo" and he's so confused, because he's Tubbo, so who's that?

And then he sees the mask that screams Dream, the blonde hair and the compass and he realizes the needle never started spinning wildly. He thought it was only because he was somewhere far, far away in the Dream SMP, not because Tommy was here too. The boy with the mask freezes "Tubbo?" and Tubbo looks back "Tommy." And then they run to hug each other, because it's been so long and they missed each other so much. Tommy makes a comment how Tubbo is so clingy and Tubbo lets him have it.

Meanwhile the hermits realize that they have TWO traumatized boys in their midst and it all starts making sense. They let them have their moment and discuss what to do next. Xisuma adresses everyone and shares what he found some far: The portal was a glitch created by some admin messing with codes, but as long as the boys remember the server/s they are from, they can just use the main hub portals when the hermits leave for MCC. They all agree upon the plan and use the community meeting to ask the boys some questions about their world.

They ask them if they are both from the same world. Tommy goes to say: "Tubbo wa- is my best friend." and the reason he changes it is because Tubbo uses the present tense. They have an awkward staring contest and move on to tell them about the wars. Tommy proud, Tubbo a little sad. And while they're at it they explain the concept of cannon deaths, shocking everyone by the information a normal server uses hardcore rules. Tommy says: "Yeah, we have 3 cannon deaths and after that that's it, except my brother is a ghost now, so who knows." And he tries to play it off as a joke. Tubbo frowns, but doesn't comment on it, so they assume it's fine.

But then the boys get to the election arc and try to explain the politics and you can see them splitting. Tommy is still in denial about old Wilbur doing bad things, but Tubbo argues that Wilbur was about to be a tyrant, because he didn't get voted in, he just elected himself. And Tommy tries to make a joke "Yeah, you would know that mister president." and it comes out bitter than he wanted and it's akward again. The hermits are suprised that Tubbo is the president, so they ask him about his country. But unfortunatelly Tommy starts being passive agresive and eventually Tubbo snaps too.

It boils down to a nasty argument where they argue who left who and then Tommy drops the "The discs were worth more than you ever were." And he stops, shocked. Oh god, why did he say that? Why would he say such a thing? Tubbo was his best friend. But he betrayed him, that's why Dream was his best friend. Oh wait, he doesn't have friends, because he's an asshole and Tubbo looks like he will cry. As he's panicking, he tries to apologize, but Tubbo slaps his hand away and just tells Tommy: "I don't regret exiling you."

And then he runs away and Tommy stays there frozen, because what the fuck, but also fair, he said the same thing. And the hermits are just shocked, because they learned too much and they are also not sure what to do. So they ask the boys if they want some company and leave them alone when they both decline. Tommy and Tubbo keep avoiding each other, because the compass tells them where they are and the hermits let them heal on their own. Tommy makes a new bench and pretends to not notice when Tubbo starts sitting on it.

One day he sits next to Tubbo and they apologize to each other. Tommy shares what happened in exile and Tubbo tells him about the butcher plan. They reminiscent about the people waiting for them and start talking about their plans for the next MCC. After they make up, they explore the server a bit, enjoying the "vacation" as they decided to call it. Basically they bond with the hermits and it's all cool, until the boys accidentally explode a creeper and Tubbo dies.

Tommy panics (they both had one life left in the previous world) and imidiately asks if it was a cannon death. Xisuma assures him that there is no such thing as cannon death here, but since Tommy insists he sets the cannon deaths ridiculously high to like 100. So Tommy calms down and waits to Tubbo to respawn. When he does, he tells him about the 100 lives and that they don't have to fear final death for a while. Tubbo smiles and both boys feel a lot safer on the server.

Anyway, flashforward to MCC time when the boys try to give all the advice they recived for pvp to the hermits and they have a lil training montage. And then they go to the MCC and the boys try to pretend they are totally new and don't know the courses and competitors. They are not sure who to aproach, but they bump into Ranboo and he fills them in on what they missed. At one point Tubbo goes to grab some snack, but when he returns he's shaking, so Tommy pulls him aside to asks if he's okay.

And Tubbo tries to brush it off, but Tommy keeps asking and poking, so he caves in and tells Tommy how he met Dream, who told him that if Tubbo ever goes back to the Dream SMP, he's a dead child. Tommy is understandably confused, because yeah, they both have only one cannon life, so that's always a possibility, but Tubbo shakes his head and whispers that he had already died 4 times. And then Tubbo goes and explains that he thinks about it, Dream is the one who decides which death is cannon and he can kill people at any moment, declaring the random deaths as cannon.

And then Tubbo tells Tommy how he died on the 16th to Techno and he was so scared he was going to die forever, but Dream was there and told him they are friends and that he always had a weak spot for Tubbo, so he will grant him one last life, because "It's not his time to die yet." And Tommy is angry, fuming that Dream started manipulating Tubbo since the start, so when he had to exile Tommy, the decision was easier, angry that Dream used the same line when he pulled him away from the lava, angry that Dream has all the power.

So Tommy comes up with a reckless plan: The first and only thing they will do when they return to the SMP will be fighting Dream. And when they finally beat the admin and get the discs, they can either stay in the SMP or join Hermitcraft. Tubbo agrees and they return just in time to watch the finale. They don't tell the hermits about their plan, but everyone can see there's something on their mind. When the MCC ends, the boys tell the hermits their goodbyes, exchanging coms, so that they could communicate across dimensions, because they are friends :)

Bonus:

The avengers assemble scene, except another portal shows up and it's the Hermitcraft people, also ready to take down Dream and they stop Tommy from the cycle of killing.

Since Detective Conan has been popular with young kids in Japan, most of these are games were made to appeal to this type of audience.

Most games, not all of them. ( ﾟ∀ﾟ)

So now lets look at my small collection of Detective Conan videogames. °^°

I'm sorry of this will become a long post, but there is just too much to talk about. ^^°

Gameboy Advance~

"Detective Conan - Targeted Detective" is my newest game and I actually have the guide book along with it.

It has a nice story mode with multiple cases happening around well known Conan characters and some arcarde games.

I'm around 3/4 through the game and it got me hoocked at the first chapter. (⸝⸝⸝ᵒ̴̶̷ ⌑ ᵒ̴̶̷⸝⸝⸝)

The best part about old Conan games are, you can just buy them and put them into your Gameboy. They don't have a region protection. I've tried it and it really works. ⭕ (⌐■ω■)✧

DS~

"Detective Conan - Detective Trainer" is a nice game that's based on multiple arcade style games that are supposed to train you and let you become a great detective.

Because of it's overall concept it has a repetitive gameplay. Even though this game couln't hook me for a longer time, I found it still very fun and enjoyable. (ง˘ω˘)ว

"Detective Conan - The prelude of time" is a game that works more in the style of solving multiple cases. It has a nice story mode with multiple cases and well known characters. Alongside the story mode, two seperate arcade games and a extra jigsaw puzzle game there is also a Quiz game within the game where you can test your knowledge about Detective Conan. Yes, there is a lot to play. (๑°o°๑)

This game is absolutely amazing. I've played it multiple times and it's really really cool. > 3 <💖

Also this game was the only one that was released for PlayStation Portable.

Within the Japanese fandom it is known as one of the best Conan games to be ever made.

DS games also have no Region protection, meaning you can just buy them from Japan and play them on your DS. ⭕ (⌐■ω■)✧

3DS~

"Detective Conan - Marionette Symphony" is my only 3DS game. However I can't play it, because I don't own a Japanese 3DS. Unfortunately 3DS games have a region protection so you can't play it on any other device than a japanese 3DS. ❌

I am still very hyped. \°^°/🎉

The "Detective Conan - The Mirapolis investigation" is a game that's apparently is not in Japanese? Well that is because this game had more or less a international release. So I've got the German version of it. ^^°

Also this game is the first Detective Conan game in 3D.

I've played this game multiple times and it's actually not really that great compared to other Detective Conan games. The whole story mode can be completed in around one hour and that is actually short for a Conan game. TwT

The reason why I played this so often though, was just to turn on the cool music feature so I could listen to nice Detective Conan Soundtracks. Over all It's not a bad game, for me it's just not the best Detective Conan game out there. ≧▽≦

Switch~

Special appearance here for "Detective Conan - Skateboard Run - Kaitou Kid and the mysterious treasure" cause this game for Switch is only available as a digital download from the Japanese Nintendo E-Shop.

This game is essentially just a arcarde style 3D runner game. All over all it feels more like a ported version of a mobile game, but it's pretty fun to play. /°^°\

As for the PlayStation 1 videogames i own "Detective Conan 3 Peoples Detective Novel", "Detective Conan" and "Detective Conan Trick Trick vol. 1"

I haven't played the games yet, just because I don't own the original console. I know you can emulate them, but my goal is to play every game on their original console. ૮₍｡´• ˕ •`｡₎ა

Since these are games on a disc you need to have the Japanese console to play them. CD are written differently for each region and that's why a foreign model of a console that uses dics can not read discs from Japan.❌

These are all my computer games:

"Toku-uchi Heroes Detective Conan collection" is collection of "educational games", meanig it's more a educational software than a real game.

These little funny games are supposed to teach kids how to use a computer and how to type on a keyboard. Just to clarify, typing on a Japanese keyboard is not the easiest thing to do and even adults struggle with that. This why there are softwares like these on the Japanese market. (๑º口º๑)

To use this software, you need to have a Japanese computer. I have bought a Japanese laptop for that and it works just fine. ⭕ (｡•ᴗ-)

As far as I know there are also other educational Conan games on the market. I will have a look out for that in the future. °^°

Thinking journal for season 12 Prime Empire 😎😎😎 (1/2)

So, I'm keeping this during all of season 12 to put down my thoughts as they appear. It's mostly for not ranting every single time a new episode comes out so please don't mind me too much 😅 I'm following the English release so please no spoilers 😙

I'm gonna split it in two, since apparently the season has 16 episodes. So this is the first part, enjoy my rambling 💜💜

It's the 30th of March and here we go!

IN GENERAL

I'm so, SO HAPPY, we have a theme for this season. For my experience apparently silly themes (tech ninja, ghosts, pirates) had brought very surprising results so I'm SO DOWN FOR THIS 😍😍

It seems that they fixed the mood, there is a specific mystery and a specific mission to follow. I like it too

THE NEW WHIP IS DOPE AS ALWAYS

I'm really glad there are plenty of references to past episodes, comebacks are my jam

The only thing that still kinda bothers me is the length of the episodes. It's not all bad, I just think the 20 minutes format was better. One thing is splitting 20 in 10 minutes, another is putting together 11 minutes of important stuff. Doesn't bother me too much, I just wish there was more time for my favorite show 🤷‍♀️

WOULD YOU LIKE TO ENTER PRIME EMPIRE?

Is it normal for me to feel really old after they made the "what is a VCR?" joke? Like, I'm a uni student so still pretty young, but I lived through the transition from that to the DVD so... eh, I laughed anyway👵

Jay is smart, I really believe he is. Yet I saw him putting a possibly corrupted motherboard into a legendary game randomly found into a villain's lair, and I was like "Of course he did that, I love you you dumb*ss" raising my glass of juice towards him 😎

Okay, I'm down for this Lloyd. I'm down for a season with Lloyd being creeped out just because, being silly, just a ninja helping his friends and- (remembers there's a Harumi avatar in the sets) I'M NOT READY

The ending was actually nicely creepy. Cool nods in approval

DYER ISLAND

THAT INTRO THOUGH, THAT WAS EPIC! Love the techno sounds, love the clear gaming connection, I rate it 10/HECK YEAH LONG LIVE THE FOLD

I was scared about how the shorts were supposed to play along with the season, but it looks fine so far with the mechanic and later for Scott. Good 👍

Ah, Fist to Face, that game came all over from the nostalgic season 1. That's what I'm talking about 😎

So they just associated that Unagami is probably Dyer's avatar like that? Like sure, I thought about it, but it looks a little rushed. Mm, I wonder if there's something more behind it?

LEVEL 13

Cyrus Borg is back and he TALKS!!! Finally, he gets some action! Go tech dad!

I'm so happy he referenced the Digiverse, I would have been very disappointed if he hadn't. Time flies Borg...

Not gonna lie, I thought the next to follow up Jay's spot as best in videigames was going to be Kai or Lloyd. It's not disappointing though, since pretty much all the ninja have been seen playing, and to be honest I like the implication that Cole and Jay probably played a lot together. As bruiseshipping or as BrOTP, I still love them together no matter what 💙🖤💙🖤

Ooooohhhhh, that's why Zane and Pixal are left behind. It makes sense, sure, but I don't understand the implication of the plan: they saw Dyer entering Prime Empire, so why looking for him in real life? Mm, maybe they will investigate about his life and what happened... PIXANE ON THE CASE 😍

Already saw Prime Empire's world in the shorts, of course it looks DOPE, still very happy to finally being there!

SUPERSTAR ROCKIN' JAY

I don't know why, but Kai questioning the double jump made me laugh. Also poor him, he just got his powers back from last season and they're already gone again 😂

And of course. Them. Wow. It must be the most amazing and CURSED thing I've ever seen so far, the League of Jay 🤯 I'm so happy they exist and they freaking use past seasons' suits!!! Awesome!!! Never thought I was going to see Jay's old plain haircut again... yeah, he got better with the curly one, but I'm feeling nostalgic 🤷‍♀️

Their nick are histerical omg, Jaybird, Dee-Jay, Jaywalkin, I'm loving this way more than I should 😂 Also they freaking screamed "JAY-NJA GOO!!!" and I don't know what to do with that, it's too great for me to comprehend 👏👏

And then, THIS happened:

Your Honor, I would like to confirm this as THE MOST SECRET DREAM I'VE EVER HAD FOR THIS SHOW FINALLY COMING TRUE!!! A NINJA FROM NINJAGO DOING THE NARUTO RUN!!! 🤯🤯🤯 Done, I'm done, conclude the season, this is more than enough for me 😍

First Kai gets hit and fall from a building, DYING, then Lloyd gets desperate for his brother (MY BROTP 💚❤💚❤), then Kai respawns and Lloyd looks so relieved and Kai is all panting while slowly realizing it's a game and MY HEART CAN'T HANDLE THIS MUCH OKAY???

As a very passionate Kai fangirl I always expect the cringy moment, it really is inevitable for my favorite hothead. I love that idiot so much it's unbelievable, even if it's an absolute and costant suffering 😅 Holy Garmadon it was painful seeing his VERY slow realization that in this game you only have four lives

... SO HE HAS ONE NOW!?! NINJAGO CREW YOU ALREADY KILLED ZANE, NYA AND LLOYD ONCE AT THE END OF A SEASON, DON'T YOU DARE PLAY WITH ME AGAIN 😱😱😱

Okay, I did not expect to hear about Mr. Cuddly Wamp ever again since Hands of Time and BOY if I'm happy it was actually a password, I love this show 😂

SCOTT FINALLY!!! YESS!!! 😍😍😍

Okay, for as long as it is not debunked, I will hold onto the Scott is Jay's brother/twin theory. I'm sorry but: his jacket has dragons AND lightnings on it, they have very similar skin in avatar mode, he said he was waiting for him in the short, he could very well have his same hair under cap and hoodie and he's a mechanic too. I know, I know, they could have the same skin because Scott helped him for the avatar, and there might be shadier reason behind the 'I was waiting for you' thing, and there are tons of good mechanics in Ninjago... STILL HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE??? 😍

SCOTT HAS ONE LIFE POINT TOO??? NO! NOOO!!! NOOOOOOO!!! Don't you dare appear and steal my heart only to die at the end of the season, come on!! 😭

So for now it seems like he just wants to survive. Can we actually confirm he's an avatar and not an NPC? I mean he could be, but I don't see the point of an NPC self aware of his life points. Idk, maybe I'm overthinking this 🤷‍♀️

Lol, Kai is the only one weirded out by the Jay-con all around him. Probably because he hasn't heard from his fans since Skybound 😅 (I'M STILL HERE MY FLAME BABE, ILY ❤❤❤)

And in all of his glory, freaking Superstar Rockin' Jay!!! 😎😎 Okay, I loved the design since the first time I saw it, but it looks possibly even better in the show 😍😍😍 And Jay looks absolutely adorable in it, and he's got a guitar, and he was waiting for his friends, and he hugs them (I'm weak for LEGO hugs for some reason) and he is so happy and AAAHHH 💙💙💙💙💙

I'm very curious about how Scott will play into the situation, clearly he will provide some kind of insight about Prime Empire. I can't wait to know more about him!! 😍

I AM OKINO

I did not expect this when I saw this Okino guy in the trailer... and I'm so happy I was surprised, I love him 👌

And he's voiced by Alessandro Juliani?? HECK YEAH!!! With all the hype about the DnD 13th season, and consequentially the knight theme, I really miss Nexo Knights and having Aaron's VA around makes me happy... any hope to have Giles Panton as well? I miss Clay the most 💙💙

This is what I'm talking about, the game theme needs this stuff! I was already happy to see life points, double jumps and respawns, but this? The NPC guide? Awesome 👍 It's nice to see the take on the matter, the guide seeing so many players getting killed, first because they did not listen, then because they were actually just unlucky. The touchy matter I always expect watching Ninjago 👏👏

At least I THINK he's an NPC? For now I don't really see a way of knowing, and it doesn't look like it matters. He didn't show life points so maybe? Does this mean he can't die? I have questions people

Which brings me to the cube thingies. That's what happens to the dead players? I mean, I would understand if they just become pixels, but there's also the drone that takes the datas every time. Idk, feels like there's more behind it. And honestly? It looks like great material for angst, like one of the ninja dies but then they discover they just need to get where Unagami stores all of the players! I hope it's something like this!

They designs of the players are really cool, I already saw them in the other episodes, but seeing them this close just confirmed it. Between this and Jay's awesome avatar, I see lots of great cosplay ideas coming 😍 I wonder when will Kai and Lloyd use their avatars, and why would they since I'm guessing Jay did for disguise and to distinguish himself from his fans

PLEASE TELL ME WE'LL SEE SCOTT SOON, I ALREADY MISS HIM!!! 💙💙💙 I have too many theories about that tech dude, I'm so excited about who he might turn out to be!

I was a little skeptical about the new ninja suits, but seeing them in the show convinced me, very cool! Especially on Nya 💕💕💕

THE GLITCH

Alright, Okino is indeed an NPC. Cool the fact that at first he could not understand the fact that he was in a game, but when reality changed he was forced to. Welcome into the crew! 😙

I'm kinda worried about it though, either they will shut down the game and he will stay inside or he will sacrifice for them. He's a very loyal samurai, I can see that happening and I'm SCARED

I WAS SWEATING BULLETS AT THE AMBUSH!!! I 100% saw it coming, we all freaking saw it coming, even the ninja did but where like 'we can walk and die or we can risk and die so might as well'. But still, my babies DYING and respawning so fast was not pretty 😱😱

Nya got the scariest death until now in my opinion, holy Garmadon Dyer DOES have a twisted mind...

Seeing Kai so scared of being in a new situation and with one HP reminds me A LOT of the Digiverse, and that's actually a nice touch. Give him a cellphone, hothead is a social media expert, but put him in a game and... huuhhh... 😅

I don't understand, if Unagami is Milton Dyer then why this? Just to bring his army and conquer? I mean I guess, sounds a little simple though. Then again, if it turns out it's not Dyer, it could be Unagami wanting to be real and get into his creator's world? Mm...

I like the message, having the ability to choose your own path. Very fitting for a game themed season, I hope it gets explored even more!

ANYWAY i sometimes do thought dumps on there that involve nsfw topics like smut fanfic n stuff, so i've tried to brainstorm for my planned sskk fic on there before and well i actually found a wordy one i did where i rlly tried to explain in detail just exactly i Want to create and accomplish w this fic idea of mine. and even just re-reading the post myself, i found it to be very concise and illustrative of my goal for the fic's overall mood and tone. it was a very well-needed reminder for me to read my thought process from a month or so back when i was a bit more hyped to begin this project.

so yeah! anyway im just gonna copy and paste the whole damn post here bc i think it's an interesting read and good presentation of my inner thoughts wrt to what i'm hoping to write (hopefully) someday soon. and really... this fic idea is still barely in its infancy like there's still SO MUCH left to brainstorm and plan out like fuck!!! it's still too early to even start an outline doc (and that's like one of my fave parts of the fic writing process)

oh and some background context: a few months ago there was an event on twitter/ao3 (not sure if here on tumblr? i unfortunately don't follow many or any bsd/sskk blogs at ALL yet) for bottom akutagawa week which was HEAVEN for me 🥰🥰🥰 literally could not have been a better event to appeal to my interests in this fandom i s2g. and i got my hopes up that maybe i could write a lil fic in time to share during the week but that unfortunately didn't happen. anyway here's the post:

so i might not be able to write the bsd smut fic i was initially hoping to publish during the bottom aku fan week this week... but that doesn't mean i have to give up on this fic project completely! if anything now i don't have to worry about meeting an irrefutable deadline and i can technically do anything i want. so yeah i still wanna write this fic.

but first. i have to figure out What The Fuck i'm gonna write lmao cause i still don't fucking know. i was Intending to do a < 4k word one-shot fluffy getting together that somehow... transitions into a sex scene. and i still wanna do that... but i just. don't rlly have any specific detail or image or moment or dialogue line in mind to start building a story from. AND LIKE yeaH i know that sounds dumb cause it's like. if i don't have ANYTHING fantasized yet then WHY AM I EVEN BOTHERING to start this fic at all!?

i literally just. need to figure out the BARE BONES premise to this dang fic. like where tf is it gonna take place? is it mid/post-mission? is it at one of their flats? also WHERE are they gonna HAVE SEX???? im actually a big fan of sex scenes happening in non-conventional places (e.g. some dusty ass room in an abandoned building they were investigating or in a public restroom oR FUckinG in an airplane holy shit i haven't seen that one done yet lmao MILE HIGH CLUB ONE-SHOT LETS GOO) but yea idk maybe i should just. keep it simple and do what every other fic does and let them get down at ryuu's place in his luxuriously huge bed (that hasn't canonically been shown, let alone wherever he lives)

i should AT LEAST settle on how fast this fic is gonna be paced. tbh i kinda Always prefer sskk's first time being a bit... feverish and rushed. it just suits them best. maybe there’s a little angst or miscommunication of feelings/intentions thrown in before they Eventually get their shit/feelings together. but anyway i don’t wanna write that lmao that’s too complicated (but like. yeah. these are two Very complicated (i.e. traumatized) guys with a VERY complicated relationship so. yeah it’s actually kinda rare/weird to imagine things working out Too smoothly for them tbh). 

while objectively that complicated/messy/aggressive type shit is their Brand, i would still like to keep things soft and gentle and Nice. that stuff is Not Impossible w these two ofc. it’s... tricky, but def possible. and i wanna achieve That. a getting together that is soft, hesitant, shy, and puts a heavy emphasis on Both of these men’s inexperience wrt romance and sex (that. is. my. Shit. they are both virgins and absolutely clueless and i Refuse to accept anything other than that. ......okay no... that’s not rlly true... basically all of my fave fics have a somewhat experienced atsushi and that’s okay bc like. how else is he gonna be able to Take Care of ryuu if he doesn’t already have an idea of how to take care of someone during sex? anyway ryuu is the most virginal virgin of all virgins to exist THAT IS INDISPUTABLE!!!!!)

so. i guess what i’m wondering is... how fast can i manage to pace the flow of the story while still keeping it soft overall. cause i don’t feel like writing a super super hot n filthy sex scene that’s charged and exhilarating and just a fucking blur of fucking. i wanna write feely, emotional sex. an aching intimate exchange of trust between them, still laced w hesitance and anxiety and sheer disbelief that this is really happening and that they can have this. both of them express unwavering consideration for each other’s comfort, constantly asking for consent and reassuring the other that “yes, i want this. yes, that feels good. yes yes yes.” they’re both taking careful, yet still enthusiastic, steps together. TENDERNESS is my ultimate goal here.

so yeah anyway i’ll try to keep thinking about this and hopefully i can actually come up w some ideas that i wanna implement into whatever this fic eventually becomes. just haven’t had enough time.... or horniess.... to get down to some real brainstorming yet lmao

Yoosung

Yoosung was off in his room playing games like usual so you decided to take a shower

He won yet another round of LOLOL and took a little break

When he took his headphones off, Yoosung heard what sounded like someone screeching to a song from in the bathroom

Yoosung shuddered at the horrible noise and assumed that it was a song that you were playing from your phone

When you got out of the shower, you walked into the kitchen to find Yoosung making some dinner

“Hey MC what was song were you listening to in the shower? And who was the singer, they were awful!” Yoosung asked you

You turned your head in embarrassment and awkwardly answered “Uh that was me singing Yoosung.”

He immediately feels so bad and runs over to hug you almost crying as he says “I’m so so so sorry MC! You weren’t that bad, really! I’m just a little tired from gaming and I probably didn’t really understand what I was listening to, please forgive me!”

You told him that it was alright and that you wouldn’t try to sing as loudly anymore

But Yoosung still felt horrible and made your favorite dinner for you and kept reassuring you that you weren’t really that bad of a singer

Zen

Zen was practicing his script for a new musical that he was starring in with you - He had a long singing part that he was excited about

Zen had the voice of an angel and you loved listening to him practice  

Once he finished practicing for his solo song, Zen asked for you to practice a duet song with him

He started singing the first part and when it was your turn, you sang your heart out to try and be as good as Zen

You finished singing your part and looked at Zen excited to hear what his opinion was on your singing - Zen’s eyes went wide, how could someone as perfect as you have such a terrible singing voice?

“So how did I do Zen?” You asked him - He blinked a couple of times and forced a smile saying “Your singing voice is uh good MC.”

You smiled brightly and hugged him, telling him how excited you were that Zen approved of your singing voice

Zen smiled and hugged you back, there was no way he could tell you how awful your singing voice was

“Hey MC, how about I give you some singing lessons to make your voice even better!” Zen told you

You happily agreed and Zen sighed in relief

Even though your singing voice was atrocious, Zen taught you some basic skills and over time it got slightly better

You and Jaehee were closing up the cafe for the night after a long day

You were cleaning up the cups while Jaehee was sweeping the floor

Jaehee was singing in a small voice and your eyes lit up when you heard her

You knew the song she was singing so you decided to join in and sing in your best voice

Well your best singing voice was simply terrible and Jaehee jumped when she heard you sing - “MC… What in the world was that?” Jaehee asked cautiously

You smiled and said “That was me singing silly! You have a great singing voice Jaehee, we should sing together sometime!”

Jaehee sighed and decided to state the obvious and say “MC, your singing voice isn’t very good. But mine isn’t either so let’s not sing together.”

You frowned a little but agreed saying “Yeah I guess you’re right. We can just listen to Zen sing in one of his musicals instead!”

Jaehee smiled in relief and nodded saying that she wholeheartedly agreed with you

So for he rest of the night and Jaehee cuddled on the couch and watched Zen’s musicals, neither of you singing along  

Jaehee was silently relieved that you took the news about your singing voice so well and decided that she would tell you all about your good qualities instead

Jumin

After another long, stressful day of work, Jumin was looking forward to coming home

On his way home, he thought about how he wanted to have a nice dinner with you and just cuddle each other for the rest of the night

Jumin walked in to the penthouse and the sound of someone’s singing was heard

He thought that his ears would bleed from the horrendous singing so Jumin went to find the source

Jumin was left almost speechless when he saw that the horrible singing was coming from you

You were laying down on the bed singing in your ‘unique’ singing voice to Elizabeth the 3rd

“MC, what’s wrong with your voice?” Jumin asked startling you and Elizabeth the 3rd

You smiled saying “I’m just singing a little song for Elizabeth the 3rd! We were both waiting for you to come home and got bored.”

Jumin gave you a confused look and said “I don’t understand. Your singing voice is appalling but it seems like Elizabeth the 3rd enjoyed it. She doesn’t even like it when I sing to her…”

You pouted and said “Hmph, well maybe my singing voice is better than yours Jumin! I bet you’re an awful singer too, sing something for me.”

When you heard Jumin sing, everything became right in the world

Jumin smiled when he saw your surprised look and pulled you in for a hug

From that night on, you had Jumin sing you to sleep every night since his singing voice was perfection

But Jumin still thought that even though your voice was awful, he always had you sing for Elizabeth the 3rd since she seemed to like your singing voice better than his for some very strange reason

Seven

You and Seven were bored one night and decided to go out for a karaoke night for something new and fun

Seven was extremely hyped when the two of you got there and immediately started searching for duet songs for the two of you to sing

Once he found the perfect song, Seven dragged you onto the stage to sing

It was some cheesy romance song and it was fun until it was time for your part to sing

Never in his life did Seven hear someone sing so horribly and the rest of the crowd agreed

Some people started booing you and telling you how terrible your singing voice was

When Seven saw you on the verge of tears, he grabbed the microphone and started singing in the worst voice that he could come up with

Everyone’s attention was now focused on Seven who then told him how awful of a singer he was

He had enough of the rude people and took your hand and lead you back to his car

“Why did you do that Saeyoung? I mean I know that I’m not a great singer, but I didn’t realize that I was that bad.” You sad sadly to Seven

Seven scratched the back of his neck and said “Well no offense, but your singing voice is kind of… bad. But there’s no way I’m letting those people get away with saying those mean things about you. They’re going to be destroyed by the Defender of Justice!”

So that night, Seven went through and hacked into all of the obnoxious audience member’s accounts and essentially ruined them for making fun of you

When he was finished, Seven told you all kinds of jokes to make you feel better and he said that he could use your terrible singing voice as a weapon against the other RFA members when they wouldn’t listen to him

You agreed because who couldn’t say no to this adorable dork?

You and V were doing some spring cleaning mostly cleaning out his thousands of pictures that he’s taken

V was in the other room tidying up and humming to himself in his own little world

But he was rudely awakened when he heard some kind of terrible singing

He assumed that you were playing some kind of music and went to investigate

V’s eyes widened when he heard the awful singing wasn’t coming from some one else, but it was coming from you

“Is something wrong V?” You asked as he continued to stare at you

“Was that you singing just now MC?” V questioned

“Yes it was! Why? Was it really that bad?” You asked nervously

V smiled telling you no that your voice was beautiful and he was just surprised was all

There was no way this angel could break your heart and tell you that your singing was horrible, no matter how bad it really was

So for the rest of the day, you sang in your awful voice to V and he only smiled, telling you how good you were

At the end of the day you had finally convinced V to sing a little something for you

And when you heard him sing, you told him that you would rather him sing than you since he was clearly much better

V had never been so thankful in his life at your request

Saeran was acting moodier than usual today and that was saying something

You felt bad for him since he seemed more sad than anything else so you thought of some ways to cheer Saeran up

You grabbed him some ice cream and sat down on the couch with him handing him a spoon

Saeran started to feel a little bit better so when he was done, you made him lay down on the bed to cuddle with him

You laid behind Saeran, stroking his hair and he seemed to be calming down

That was until you thought it would be a good idea to sing a little song to help him fall asleep

Saeran sat straight up when he heard your terrible singing and gave you a strange look

“MC, what the hell was that?”

“I was just trying to sing you a little song to help you fall asleep since you seem kind of upset… I’m sorry if I did something to upset you.” You said sadly to Saeran

He sighed and said “Well yeah your singing voice sucks. It’s worse than Saeyoung’s laugh.”

You were about to get up and leave him alone but Saeran grabbed your arm and pulled you back onto the bed

“Your singing voice may be awful but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to be with you. Sorry if I hurt your feelings and thanks for trying to make me feel better.” Saeran mumbled

You had always made Saeran feel better because of your kind heart but Saeran made a mental note not to ask you to sing for him ever again

I actually have done that for this game before, though it was a little less, “headcanons about a universe that is already headcanon” and more, “a glorified excuse to talk a lot about the headcanon universe” — but anyway

So, at Hogwarts University, we have Cedric Diggory, one of the History department’s postgrad students, and Harry Potter, one of the undergrads in the Social Policy and Social Work program.

They first met each other during one of the unofficial, only barely organized, by the students and for the students games of football, when they got put on the same team and butted heads about strategy, with a lot of openly sarcastic snark from Harry, and a lot of passive-aggressive dry snark from Cedric, and a lot of eye-rolling from their teammates because there is a time and a place for ineptly flirting at each other without entirely realizing that you’re doing it, and neither of them is, “during a game, what the Hell, guys”

Everyone else on that team, from Ginny (Harry’s ex and his best friend’s sister) to Viktor (who’s a big deal footballer but he really doesn’t like being reminded of it, or how it’s impeded all of his academics, and anyway, he’s Cedric’s roommate and they used to be boyfriends) had a Super Awkward time of it because eventually, it became obvious that Harry and Cedric were not listening to them, were totally off in their own world during all attempted discussions of strategy, and were probably going to be super into each other

The snarkfest finally ended when Harry sort of accidentally tackled Cedric while trying not to faceplant after hitting a slick patch of mud too quickly and sliding, after which: 1. Ginny took over as captain, and dragged Viktor into being her co-captain, because she decided that if Cedric and Harry couldn’t share the co-captain spot without flirting and being ridiculous at each other, then screw them, they don’t get to be co-captains anymore;

and 2. even if she hadn’t, they would’ve calmed down anyway, because abruptly ending up sprawled out with Harry on top of Cedric made both of them have an, “oh shit, he’s hot” moment, which really knocked the wind out of their unintentional snarky argue-flirting and made both of them much more cooperative

For her part, Cho is really glad that she was on the other team for all of this (though, at the time, she was really not into this arrangement because she got stuck with Draco, Zacharias, Pansy, Oliver, and Roger Davies as some of her teammates, and Cho mostly likes Oliver and Roger, but all five of these people kinda suck to be on a team with for various reasons).

But she’s grateful now because on one hand, she and Cedric dated before they were in undergrad, and he’s one of her best friends. On the other hand, she and Harry briefly dated, and it ended amicably.

And on the tentacle, she’s currently in a Something with Ginny that isn’t yet officially anything because neither of them is sure what she wants but they keep flirting with each other but in not very direct ways, and okay really, it would’ve been Awkward And Messy for Cho to be on a team with Ginny while two of her exes were being even more inept at flirting than Cho and Ginny have been

Cedric has this problem where he doesn’t know how to ask for help when he needs it, because:

1. he’s legitimately gifted (which has given him kind of a Thing about working hard enough to prove that he isn’t just coasting by on his natural talents and aptitude, which usually means that he will work himself almost to the point of a complete breakdown, succeed, and then learn almost nothing from this since he didn’t actually have said breakdown so it’s probably okay to keep doing this — and he still feels like it’s not enough and maybe he’s not actually good at anything)

2. a lot of people whom he cares about rely on and look up to him (which kicks him in the responsibility and makes him feel like he has to always be there for them, and he gets that he is allowed to ask people to be there for him in turn, but he only actually lives that idea in certain specific ways that usually do not involve any of his actual problems)

and 3. he kinda has a chip on his shoulder about whether or not he can actually handle anything on his own, and about doing all of the work to prove that he can, because he was sort of an awkward and sickly kid, and between his Mum verging on being overprotective and Amos over-hyping Cedric for every. single. accomplishment. he ever had, in ways that Cedric finds over-the-top and unnecessary, Cedric got stuck worrying about whether or not he could handle anything

This is all getting particularly problematic because Cedric has pretty much no idea what he’s going to do after finishing his postgraduate work (which he started because he had no idea what he was going to do after finishing his undergrad) and he feels like he can’t ask anyone for help without letting everyone down and somehow hurting them horribly.

Someone, please. Help this boy.

Harry really values his ability to keep a low profile. Unfortunately for him, this ability is borderline non-existent because:

1. He’s the son of that famous footballer whose father invented Toaster Strudels or something (it was actually the Sleekeazy line of hair products but almost nobody remembers that, since Harry never talks about it, and his hair never behaves and he has no idea what hair products do what, so no one thinks to associate him with Sleekeazy), and that one big deal activist who made her name vehemently, openly opposing that one disgraced former Tory MP who was in good with Thatcher back in the day but these days, he’s gone even further to the political right and he’s trying (once again) to make a comeback by capitalizing on increasing Islamophobia and anti-immigrant sentiments to make people vote for him.

2. The Potters died in really shady circumstances when Harry was very young, which sorta led that guy’s big fall from grace, and a huge custody nightmare because Harry was supposed to go live with his godfather and his father’s BFF, that wayward disowned, gay, bipolar son of that one noble family who are some of said ex-Tory MP’s biggest supporters, who’s managed to establish himself as a writer, but Lily’s parents initially started voicing Concern about Harry living with him, because at the time, he was:

a. undiagnosed, so a lot of his symptoms were seen as Just Sirius Being Sirius and, “just Sirius being Sirius” was periodically dangerous (mostly to Sirius himself but… still in ways that concerned Harry’s Evans grandparents);

b. nominally single, officially “straight,” and sharing a place with Professor Lupin from the History department (who was a postgrad, then), but that was all a façade, hiding their on-off Thing, where they were kinda together, but sometime not, and sometimes, “together but allowed to see other people as long as they talk about it if it ever gets serious (which it never really did but still)” — and oh boy, there was a Mess when that all came out during the custody nightmare (not least because Petunia and Vernon entered the discussion by being homophobic all over it, and making matters way, WAY worse when some trashy tabloid journalist outed Remus’s HIV status);

and c. a person of interest in the investigation of James and Lily’s deaths (which never amounted to charges and was eventually dropped, but not for lack of trying to pin it all on Sirius, on the parts of a few choice assholes).

3. Harry is a pretty gifted footballer himself, and a pretty good student, and friends with that loudmouth activisty girl who took advantage of an obscure and underutilized academic option to design her own program (combining history, law, political science, and social policy), and the youngest son of that family of impoverished minor nobles who act like they’re all about family values but are secretly an abusive shit-show, oh and he’s not actually a student here anymore, he left school to go into some nebulous but profitable startup with his twin brothers, but Harry and Hermione are still here, so he hangs around so often that most people don’t remember that he doesn’t even go here

(overall, Ron and Hermione are equally notable but in very different ways and for very different reasons)

and 4. Harry also spent his entire adolescence accidentally foiling that dickbag ex-Tory MP’s plans to try and make his comeback, and aside from all of the shit that he was embroiled in as a toddler, his godfather being kind of a Big Deal in several ways, and his “uncle” being a member of the university’s faculty, Harry just keeps drawing attention to himself without meaning to.

Someone please help him, he just wants to not have to deal with all of this attention, it is so frustrating

ngl, one of his favorite things about Cedric is that Cedric does not treat him as Famous Harry Potter, and manages to strike a rare balance between acknowledging the effects of this shit on Harry’s life and treating Harry as a real person without giving him any special treatment for better or for worse because of who his parents were, or his accidental teenage activism, or his talent at football, or any of that

(—like, seriously. Ron, Hermione, Luna, Cho, Remus, and Sirius are the only other people Harry would list as having done the thing consistently. This isn’t really fair to some others in his life, but he’s also pretty sensitive about all of this, so unfair as it is to some people in his life, it’s understandable that his list is so short)

Their first date happened kind of by accident.

See, it started when Sirius got asked to come have a reading and talk on campus, and of course Harry was going to go because it’s Sirius and his new book is really good and even if Harry didn’t like it, he’d still go because it’s Sirius.

Cedric showed up with the intent to just enjoy it and hopefully ask some questions during the Q&A (like, this boy showed up with an entire page of possible questions in his notebook, and that had already been whittled down quite a lot, and even as he went into the auditorium, he was still debating which one he wanted to ask most)

This particular event had open seating, rather than assigned seating, and Harry…… was sort of not sure where to sit, when he showed up. Like, he picked out Ron in the crowd first… but then noticed that Ron was sitting with Viktor, and looking kinda bored while Viktor looked eager, and yeah, there was a brief feeling of, “What the Hell, I should go over there and ask why Ron didn’t tell me he had a date with Viktor, who cares if I ruin their moment, what the Hell Ron” — but Harry decided against it because Ron hadn’t had a date in a while, and ruining it for him would’ve been a dick move

Then, he spotted Hermione… right as Luna sat down with her and they picked up where they’d apparently left off in some debate or other that Harry couldn’t hear so he just imagined that it was another round of Hermione reading Sirius’s poetry as sociopolitical commentaries first and foremost, while Luna primarily reads them as poems, looking at how the language and choice of images create certain emotions and stories and word-pictures, rather than what those things mean in a broader sociopolitical context, and probably arguing about the place of the author in interpreting literature

(He wasn’t that far off. Add in some stuff like, “Luna ffs why did you bring gummy bears to a poetry reading” and, “Did you do something special with your hair? …Oh, wait, you’re just not wearing any Sleekeazy’s in it, are you? …It looks really pretty and I’m sorry your internship’s been pressuring you into wearing it for the sake of looking quote-unquote professional” — and then you’d basically have what they were on about)

This process repeated itself with Cho and Ginny, then with Dean and Seamus, then with Lavender and Parvati, then with Angelina and Katie, then with Fleur and Tonks — it was only different when Harry noticed Draco, then Zacharias, because ugh, fuck shit dammit NO, there is not enough money in the world to pay Harry to sit next to either of them — and finally, he noticed Cedric sitting on his own

Faced with the choices of, “go ask Cedric if he can sit next to him and risk rejection” or, “sit alone and feel lonely, and risk Remus coming to sit with him and feeling like a loser because ugggh, one of his godfathers actually came to sit with him so he wouldn’t feel lonely which was well-intentioned but just kind of reaffirmed Harry’s feelings of loneliness and loserdom, and ugggh, he loves you, Uncle Moony, but why this”

……yeah, Harry went and asked if he could join Cedric

Cedric was really confused about why Harry seemed so hugely relieved to have been told, “Oh, sure, please — God, it’s kinda lonely with all the couples in here, right?” because?? Like???? Cedric goes out of his way to try and be kind and welcoming to everyone (even when they’ve shared incidents like the football game arguing and accidental tackling), and he got worried that he’d done something to make Harry feel like he didn’t like him or didn’t want him around

But there wasn’t really a lot of time to worry about it before the presentation started

So, instead, Cedric just waited until it was done and then asked if Harry wanted to go get dinner or something, because it was Very Important to Cedric to make sure that Harry knew that he was genuinely welcome

And well, first, they had to duck over to see Sirius before he got to signing books for people, because Sirius doesn’t always read his texts before just going, “shit, where is my godson” (or whatever) and getting really caught up in things, and Remus regularly forgets to charge his phone, lets it die, and doesn’t notice until someone (usually Sirius, Harry, Minerva, Marlene McKinnon, Mary MacDonald, or Tonks) goes, “what the fuck, why does your phone keep going straight to voicemail”

Like, you just can’t go, “okay, text Remus and he’ll go tell Sirius because he’s more responsible” because neither one of them is actually that responsible about this particular point — so Harry wanted to just congratulate Sirius, let him know that Harry would be staying at his and Remus’s place that night instead of at his, Ron, and Hermione’s place, and go, “oh btw, I’d stay here longer but I think the hot guy I accidentally tackled a few weeks ago just asked me out so I’m sorry for blowing you off but I’m gonna go out with him now”

(Sirius is always touched when he’s reminded that Harry loves him that much, but he’s also confused about why Harry felt a need to apologize for that because his opinion on all of this is, “why didn’t you just text me then, shut up at talking to me and go get some with Hot Football Boy”)

(Harry’s not even going to try to go, “I can’t text you bc I never know if you’re going to read them before you call up Ron, Hermione, Professor McGonagall, and the campus safety people to try and find me despite how I texted you that I was going to bed early or something.” He’s done that too many times to think that the message ever sticks with Sirius for long.)

Either way, Harry burned up a lot of his, “communicating with other people in an effective way” points because he didn’t ask Cedric if he’d meant this as a date date until two-thirds of the way through dinner, and his reaction to Cedric’s, “……I hadn’t thought about that one way or the other? But I’d like it if it were, if you did” was, “???? so is it a date date or not what??”

Working that out took them a good five minutes of vague as fuck, noncommittal back and forth

They eventually decided on it being a date date, but still

Shitty last headcanon is shitty because it’s 1 AM and I lost control of my life and this post and I’m tired but: so, Cedric and Viktor have a dog. She’s a mutt who Cedric found at a shelter a few years ago and fell in love with because she just looked like she needed a home so much. Her name is Lady and she’s very friendly. Before Harry met her the first time, Cedric did tell him that Lady is very friendly, but he didn’t really specify how friendly she can be when she decides that she likes someone.

She decided that she liked Harry immediately after meeting him

So, while he was waiting for Cedric to finish getting ready, she came over and put her head on Harry’s leg… then brought over a toy and made the, “play with me please please please” face at him and he indulged her because awwww cute……

And then Harry isn’t really sure what happened, but he wound up on the floor by Cedric and Viktor’s coffee table (which is perpetually buried under a stack of books), with a large dog sprawled on top of him and alternately nuzzling and licking him

Viktor had to come save him because Harry didn’t know what to do and felt bad about trying to tell Lady to get off because anytime he does that with Sirius and Remus’s dogs, the dogs get sad and Harry feels like he just seriously hurt their feelings and he doesn’t know what to do

As opposed to Crookshanks, who Harry can be blunt and cranky with, because Crookshanks is only marginally nicer to Harry than he is to Ron, and fine, cat, if you’re going to be an arse, Harry’s going to just pick you up and relocate you when you sit on his things or try to commandeer his lap when he’s trying to work

Hermione and Sirius both wish that there weren’t so much slightly vague enmity between Harry and Crookshanks, and Ron and Crookshanks, but Hermione and Sirius are both biased as fuck because Crookshanks is always nice and well-behaved for both of them

Viktor still took pics first, because it was cute and he figured that Cedric would want to see it

He was right, and Harry, personally, is just thankful that nobody put the pics on social media
