I think the world (or at least me) deserves more Kiss the Abyss fan art. ;w;
Which means hopefully I can polish this sometime!
What you don't know is that Abyss is making a nsfw request that would drag Wangzi away from his video game work. 😆

Spoilers btw*
Something something Transmigration Crossover AU something something Luo Binghe (Bingge) becomes consumed with the idea of looking through all parallel worlds and dimensions for a Shizun that can love him and take care of him but each world's Shizun either rejects him or is already with some other self that he deems far worse than himself. It gets to the point where he is so far gone that the "Forces Above" have to step in or else he might lead many worlds to the brink of destruction. He has become too overpowered, too insane that the only way to stop this madness is to regress his soul and nurture that it with care so that it doesnt go back to its past state. And in order to make this plan work, the "Forces Above" send out the professionals among professionals (really not but they are the only hope for binghe now) to deal with this son of a virus!
Su Luxia, N1 Transmigrator from the Female Lead System; Song Qingshi, Protector of the World Tree; Abyss, up and coming star transmigrator from the World's Conciousness' Survivor Program; And System Y, new Master System. These four.... people (questionable) will have to find a way to restore Binghe's santity while not creating a complete deviancy from the main plot!
Su Luxia, transmigrated as wife #2653 : Seriously?! I'm good at canon divergence, not canon compliant!
System Y, transmigrated as another canon fodder villain: Why do I get to deal with another murder freak protagonist obsessed with someone older than them?! Well at least this one doesn't read minds.
Song Qingshi, transmigrated as the unnamed 12th peak lord: Can we still bring our husbands here? I miss Wuhuan already ):
Abyss, transmigrated as Ming Fan, pointing to Binghe: If I have to deal with this crybaby more than two seconds without seeing Prince, I will kill everyone in this room and then--

↳-DREAMDAY Member Introductions-༉‧₊˚✧
CW: Mentions of weight in Hyunki's section and death of a parent in Matthew's
Tumblr media
jace/jason kim
Jason Kim, better known by his stage name Jace, was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 1, 2000 at the turn of the century. He was raised by loving parents who immediately supported his dream of being on stage. In late 2013, he was accepted into JYP Entertainment and moved to South Korea alone. He was one of the youngest trainees and immediately captured the hearts of multiple older trainees including Bang Chan (Stray Kids) and most of GOT7.
In 2017, he was heavily considered for the Stray Kids survival program, but was cut from the lineup due to JYPE not wanting to debut a group with ten members. He maintains a good friendship with the group to this day and has said he isn't upset over not debuting with them because he doesn't feel he would fit into the concept they've built for themselves. He has appeared in multiple live streams and videos with Stray Kids, even before his own debut in DREAMDAY.
He was the first member of DREAMDAY announced on June 1st, 2020.
Tumblr media
daniel/gao zixin
Born on December 5, 1998 in Chongqing, China, Daniel had no idea that he would end up falling in love with performing. His family moved to Montreal, Canada when he was 10 years old, living there for five years and taking a multitude of vocal lessons and even starring in a few theatrical productions before his family returned to China. He decided to audition under JYPE at his mother's suggestion and in 2017, he was accepted after multiple rounds of auditions.
He has talked about his friendship with, now former, JYPE idol Jackson Wang. Daniel has talked about feeling a disconnect between him and his fellow trainees despite being close with them. Jace had taken notice of this one day and had managed to talk Jackson into meeting with Daniel, just so the younger could have someone who related to him.
Daniel was the third member of DREAMDAY announced.
Tumblr media
choi junmyeon
Junmyeon was born on November 2, 1999 in Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea and has two younger brothers, born in 2001 and 2006 respectively. From a young age, Junmyeon had a deep interest in music production and lyric writing, beginning to write songs from the very moment he could properly write. He often shares these songs with fans, speaking about how much he's grown.
He competed on the second season of Produce 101, the survival program that debuted Wanna One in 2017, but ended the show ranked in 12th place, barely missing the chance to debut. Fans of the show were extatic to learn that he would be debuting in JYPE's newest boy group and even more so when they learned that he, alongside Sanghun, were the main lyricists and producers for the group.
Junmyeon was the sixth member of DREAMDAY announced.
Tumblr media
kang hyunki
Hyunki was born on February 28, 2001 in Seoul, South Korea. He has an older sister, born in 1996, and the two of them were raised by a single mother. He often says that this is the reason why he's so comfortable with his own self presentation and masculinity, often times wearing more feminine clothing. He's spoken on the fact that clothing should make you feel better about yourself multiple times, and often shares fashion tips with fans.
He joined JYP Entertainment in early 2018 and despite being mostly introverted, made quick friends with most of the other trainees. After his debut in DREAMDAY, many fans were often worried about his low weight and how he never seemed to gain weight. Eventually, it got to the point where he himself had to do a livestream in which he addressed the entire thing, explaining that he's always been a thin kid and even sharing photos from his childhood to prove it. After reassuring fans that he was okay, it was just more difficult for him to put on weight, fans were content in leaving the issue alone for the most part and only occasionally reminded him to take care of himself.
Hyunki was the second member of DREAMDAY announced.
Tumblr media
lee yeonghwan
Yeonghwan was born on March 7, 2002 in Jeju Island, South Korea and has two siblings, born in 1999 and 2008. He has always been obsessed with Kpop and has idolized groups such as EXO and GOT7 from a young age, confirming multiple times that Baekyun is his ult bias and even that he used to have an extensive photocard collection of the EXO member. Fans have speculated that he still has most of it as they have caught glimpses of Baekyun's photocards in the back of videos and lives before.
He auditioned to multiple companies, specifically JYP Entertainment multiple times before he finally was accepted in 2015 at the age of 13. He was very quickly taken in by Jace and Bang Chan as they both could see themselves in him. For a long time, he was used to being the youngest, but has said that he really enjoys having members who are younger than him that rely on him.
Yeonghwan was the fourth member of DREAMDAY announced.
Tumblr media
park sunghan
Sunghan was born on May 29, 2002 in Daegu, South Korea and has two older sisters and a younger brother, born in 1995, 1998, and 2004 respectively. Growing up, he was mainly into dance and underground rappers, J-Hope being a very large inspiration for him for a long time. When he was accepted under JYP Entertainment in 2016, that was his main focus and it wasn't until he met Junmyeon in 2018 that he was introduced to the world of lyric writing and producing. With Junmyeon's help, he was able to refine his skills before their debut and is now working with the older as one of the main producers for the group.
He often comes across as intimidating because of his introverted nature. The rest of the members agree that he's the most introverted member, the textbook definition of an introvert, and so it's difficult for him to always be keeping up an "idol image". However, as he's gotten more comfortable in front of cameras, fans have really been able to see his cute side. He has thanked fans for allowing him time to adjust and always waiting for him.
He was the fifth member of DREAMDAY announced.
Tumblr media
matthew/ matthieu ahn
Matthew was born on February 14, 2004 in Montpellier, France. He has one step-sister, born in 2004. After his mother's death when he was six years old, his father remarried when he was 13. Matthew doesn't often speak about his family and fans have assumed that he has a rather strained relationship with them due to the fact that they have never been spotted supporting DREAMDAY despite the group having performed in France before.
He had the shortest training period in DREAMDAY, only training for around 8 months before debuting. Because of this and the age gap, the rest of the group tends to be overprotective of him which he always tries to pretend he doesn't like. He has talked about the fact that he genuinely considers DREAMDAY a family and has said that the members have been there for him through a lot, only furthering the idea of his strained relationship with his family.
Matthew was the seventh and final member of DREAMDAY announced.

I guess some stories ignore it because the idea of “secretly infiltrating a world that is not your own and finding your happily ever after and never having to address your former world and the secrets you keep from other characters” is a form of escapism for the audience.
Like the author is saying, “Our main character transmigrated into a princess and has all these princes pursuing her romantically! She now has modern world knowledge that can help her advance in this pre-modern world and/or plot/trope knowledge that will keep her afloat in this fictional story,” so the author doesn’t want to shatter it with reality. Because the idea you could enter a world and have secret helpful knowledge is within itself a kind of power fantasy.
But!! That’s not to say I disagree that it could be all the more interesting if authors actually addressed it haha.
In fact, I have some recommendations based on what you’re asking for: 👍
Tumblr media
Kiss the Abyss is a manhua—with a vomic adaptation—where the main character, Wang Zixin (nickname Wangzi aka Prince) ends up in the world of the game he developed and comes face to face with its cruelties and characters—including the fearsome Abyss, who the game is named after.
It’s basically Squid Games before Squid Games, and it does indeed include returning to the main character’s reality and a love interest who chases the main character back to their reality. There is no body-snatching though as Wangzi transmigrates into the game world as himself, but there will be a few series that will explore body-snatching later in this list.
Additionally, the author of this manhua has written a couple others, including another transmigration one where the transmigrating is actually made known to the love interest in the world the main character ends up in!:
Tumblr media
This one’s called I Have to Be a Great Villain (also known by a few other names), and as the title suggests, it’s about the main character (Wang Yi) transmigrating into villain roles.
This is by the same author as Kiss the Abyss and now also has audio drama and vomic adaptations.
The story here includes world-hopping, where the protagonist he has to be an antagonist to bears a striking resemblance to each other…
The type of transmigrating itself falls under a trope I’ve seen in a couple Chinese transmigration stories, which is where the main characters who transmigrate find out a bigger conspiracy about how these worlds (and the Systems that come with transmigrators) work.
I won’t spoil it here, but I will mention other stories that fall under this category:
Tumblr media
The manhua for this one is I believe not updating anymore, but it still has an original novel and audio drama adaptation. And like the last one, this novel, Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends from the Trash Bin, includes world-hopping—so each new arc is a new world.
It doesn’t fit your requests exactly though since the characters of the different worlds the main character, Chi Che, ends up in don’t really find out about his true identity as a transmigrator…but it still plays around with the idea of identity and a larger conspiracy thanks to Chi Che’s System.
Tumblr media
And speaking of a larger conspiracy…!
Formerly known by fans as Transmigrating into the Heartthrob’s Cannon Fodder Childhood Friend, this novel has been picked up for official English translation by Rosmei and now goes by Everyone Loves the Cannon Fodder.
This one also challenges how we see transmigration using the System character that accompanies our protagonist, Song Yu, who ends up accompanying his protagonist, Xie Sui.
The idea of transmigration is not a secret between these two.
No manhua adaptation though. 😔
But what about donghua adaptations…?:
Tumblr media
You Yao, aka Are You OK, is a donghua and a novel, which has quite the interesting take on transmigration:
Rather than keep it a secret, it became well-known that people from our modern world were dropping into the bodies of dead people from this world—so much so the emperor decided to make use of it and use these modern ideas to upgrade their world. This means these transmigrators have to be tested to confirm their real identity (because some people try to fake being a transmigrator to make money).
The donghua is a pretty humorous adaptation—for example, one of the ways you might show you’re a transmigrator is by singing your ABCs—with a bit of angst, but the novel itself is known as even angstier, especially when you take the idea of body-snatching into account.
Tumblr media
The author for You Yao also wrote Chen He Ti Tong aka How Dare You, which has also been adapted into a donghua.
It’s another world with multiple transmigrators, and while it’s a bit more secret than in You Yao, the ones who do know tend to be other transmigrators.
This leads to a funny scene that went a bit viral on Twitter where our main characters recognize each other as not from this world/time by asking, “How are you?” in English. 😂
Tumblr media
If you like cdramas and/or romcoms, there’s also The Romance of Tiger and Rose. The main character transmigrates into the novel she’s written and meets her antagonist character, Han Shuo, while she ends up as the spoiled but irrelevant third princess, Chen Qianqian.
Naturally, this causes the plot to deviate and plenty of shenanigans ensue, especially since the setting is a kingdom where women are favoured over men.
Her identity ultimately also isn’t a secret to her love interest, and the ending has another twist about transmigration on top of that, including a return to the real world (also, the second season is currently in production)…!
There’s actually probably a few cdramas that could fit this bill; for example, Derailment has a girl who insists she’s not the same person because she’s her from a parallel universe, so she’s not the woman the male lead thinks he knows. I don’t watch enough cdramas to name them all, and there are some stronger censorship rules around cdramas so some transmigration stuff have to provide awkward explanations.
But I know some people enjoy a lot of them (for example, Joy of Life is a well-beloved transmigration cdrama), so you can find more in here!:
Tumblr media
And on another one with identities not being so secret because of Systems, transmigrators, and people finding discrepancies between the main character’s new behaviour, we have the cute How’d I Get a Heroine’s Script?
I’d go more into detail about how our main character Chao Yi’s identity as a transmigrator ends up not so secret, but that would spoil a couple things so I’ll leave it as a mystery ahaha.
But this one certainly does question what it means for someone to have known “you” well before you became someone else.
And it’s not exactly the only one that does that…!:
Tumblr media
This one goes by a few English translations of the name but it’s a pain to write them all out so I usually just call it by its Chinese name, Wo Jia Dashixiong Naozi You Keng. It literally translates to “My Dashixiong (Senior Martial Sect Brother) has a Pit in His Brain,” but the donghua adaptation figured that would be too hard for English speakers to understand so its official English title is What’s Wrong With My Big Brother (personally speaking, this is a terrible translation lol).
The donghua also does a fun thing that gets completely lost in English translation which is name each season after a different major plot point:
Season 1: 我家大师兄脑子有坑 (My Dashixiong has a Pit in His Brain)
Season 2: 我家大师兄是个反派 (My Dashixiong Is a Villain)
Season 3: 我家大师兄有点靠谱 (My Dashixiong Is a Bit Reliable)
I just think it’s kind of cute. 😆
Now moving onto the idea of transmigrators’ identities being made known…: I can’t recall if the fact the main character is a transmigrator is ever made fully fully known to the people around him—since any attempt to mention it seriously will get him struck by divine lightning—but he does run into other transmigrator(s) and his change in personality is a huge plot point in other ways.
Basically, the main character, Dongfang Xianyun, transmigrates into what he thinks is just a canon fodder character, so he decides to spend his days lazing about and avoiding the main plot. His belief is that the protagonist of this world is actually his shidi (junior martial sect brother), Yin Feixing.
And that’s how we start the series—light and comedic, as Yin Feixing gets annoyed with Dongfang Xianyun’s lazy attitude and nonsensical gibberish (because he does say this stuff about Yin Feixing being the protagonist while he’s just a canon fodder NPC out loud).
But what he doesn’t know is that Yin Feixing has actually been reincarnated—he comes from a life when Dongfang Xianyun was cold and aloof, and technically condemned Yin Feixing when he became a demonic cultivator. So Yin Feixing is determined this time to live out his best life as the hero he believes he deserves to be, while he wants to force Dongfang Xianyun to experience what he did in his last life…
Except…it’s a bit hard to do that, when your dashixiong is no longer who he once was. Now he’s playful and even kind, making an effort to reach out to you and to change this world, and things are thus different from your calculations.
It’s a cute yet still somewhat emotional series!
I’d say this one is easiest to experience via the donghua adaptation. The original manhua is good too, but it’s really, really long—and the English translation hasn’t been active in some time (it’s also more fan-service-y, so if that isn’t your thing, you can consume the main plot via the donghua).
Oh, and this one is not explicitly danmei (Chinese BL), although most of the characters are definitely not straight. 😂
In fact, a lot of my recommendations have been danmei DLFNSKSJ. This is entirely my fault for not having read more baihe yet to be clear on the details of their plots, but I do have more danmei and baihe manhua recommendations here!:
I even have a “transmigration” section!
Some stories though, like Wo Jia Dashixiong Naozi You Keng and The Ex Is My King, has it so that our protagonist physically cannot reveal they’re a transmigrator as it’s against the world’s rules, so obviously my “transmigration” sections will not be addressing which stories are more open to a reveal or less open. 😅
And oh, I should mention that “transmigration” in Chinese has two possible meanings: one is actually travelling to a different world, and the other is simply time travel.
So for example, Don’t Say You Love Me and See You, My King are also technically labelled as “transmigration” stories, but they’re both more so time travel.
Actually, this means Erha would technically fall under what you’re requesting, but I won’t specify how since that is a major spoiler SKFNSKSH. It just doesn’t involve transmigration from our modern world to an ancient world. 🙈
But on danmei having a lot of transmigration…
If you search up what you are asking, you will find someone asking for a similar thing on a danmei Reddit and people providing recommendations in the comments! Evidently the recommendations are all of novels, but you’ll find some more stories that fit your requests in there! An especially comprehensive list there is this one. And here’s another example of someone asking for recs of “unique transmigration stories.”
I think what’s cool here is that unlike in the escapist power fantasies where the main character gets to coast along and get a happy ending via their secret knowledge, a lot of these “unique” transmigration stories getting recommended from China are very meta. They thus explore the ideas of tropes, canon fodder, flags, etc, and that means sometimes we get stories where the transmigrator’s true identity actually gets revealed or at least explored in terms of consequences.
And so, I hope this list provides you with some fun new reading material! 🙌
To round off, since I already left my other two major recommendations lists, I’ll add my donghua one too, even though it doesn’t focus entirely on transmigration and obviously not all the ones that do have transmigration have identity reveals—still, it just wouldn’t feel right not to include it (plus I really do recommend series like Mao Zhi Ming aka Cat’s Tea!):
It frustrates me when I read isekai/reincarnation webtoons where only the main lead knows they transmigrated. I need more reveals, more characters finding out. I need the male leads to find out that their partner is actually from another universe and see how they react to it. I need them to find out and still fall in love but this time it’s more romantic cause there’s no major secrets between both leads.
Also I feel like what happened to the previous body is an underutilized plot point in itself. Like you have a perfectly interesting plot point right there, why are you ignoring it? I’m not saying that all stories ignore it, but a majority of isekai stories do. You can have someone from the original universe try and bring the main lead back to their body, or someone else possessing their original body and doing evil with it, and ya’ll are doing nothing with these potential plot points?
Like give me a plot where after the main lead reincarnates into their new universe, the love interest finds out and instead of living happily ever after there, the main lead is forced back into their body in their original universe and the love interest who is absolutely dedicated to them, follows them back. That. Give me more like that. There is no better profession of love to you by someone than literally jumping universes for you because they love you so much. Why isn’t there more like that?
