I answered this ask already about the Zelda suite. The main idea is that now that I have a full band version of the suite, I'd like to make a polished (home) studio recording featuring the whole band that I can share 😁

Since I'm mostly working on click tracks rn, I don't have much to show aside from obnoxious, poorly mixed MIDI right now, but I'll get there, haha 😅 Tumblr is being difficult rn and not letting me upload the actual audio file, but I can share a Google Drive link to the midi click track wip for the Minuet of Forest movement. REMINDER! Our Legend of Zelda Musical Releases TODAY!

Highlights of Songs From The Wild is the concept album for @botwmusical's musical theater adaptation of Breath of the Wild. I wrote the music and most of the lyrics, and words can't describe how excited I am for this project to see the light of day.

In around four hours (at 17:00 UTC), we'll be livestreaming the premiere. You'll get to hear twelve songs from the show, as well as messages from our wonderful cast and a Q&A with myself and @dianapocalypse. Afterwards, the album will be available for free download! Forever!

We would absolutely love to see you there, so please do mark your calendars and make some time for us. If you aren't clearing everything to hear @wanderingnightingale as the titular Zelda, what are you doing with your life?!

Zelda took up knitting to while away the evening hours of the long winter nights when there wasn’t much else to do but sit by the fire. She actually found it was cathartic and Link was constantly wearing holes in his socks. She’d made him ankle socks, knee socks, and a few woolen tights. Tonight she was trying a new pattern, quietly humming as Link sat beside her oiling his sword.

“Those look too small for me.”

“They’re not for you.”

Zelda laughed when Link’s sword clattered to the floor and she suddenly found herself wrapped in him warm embrace.

Wonderful Zelink fic recs (some of my favorites in no particular order)

Dropping the Sword by @wanderingnightingale https://archiveofourown.org/works/30552120 I love this fanfic to death. The writing is so beautiful, the plot is gut-wrenching, and Nightingale is so nice. Zelink, basically, had a baby before the Calamity, which makes the After much harder for Link who can’t remember his child. They embark on a journey to figure out what happened to the infant after Calamity struck.  Incomplete. 

I would post everything else by Nightingale, but then the entire list would just be her works. But go read everything else on her page, too. 

And I’m Running Out of Good Options by machagreentea https://archiveofourown.org/works/37351606 Heed the warnings, folks. Dead Dove Do Not Eat, for sure, but so, insanely good and impactful. The story is wonderful and very depressing. Link is abused by his piece of shit father. When given the opportunity to go to knight’s school, he’s able to escape his father’s grip and, to his very awkward dismay, meet both Zelda and Mipha.  Incomplete.

So! I have one fic that hits most of these marks, and after stewing on it today, I’ve decided I’m going to use my second most for a few of these. Everything is some flavor of Legend of Zelda.

Most hits Reunion this one has been making rounds recent,y, which makes sense as it’s post Breath of the Wild but doesn’t get upended by Tears of the Kingdom. Also explicit.

Most kudos Eternal Shipwreck of our Hopes a character study of the champion Urbosa. Amusingly this was written for @cyraclove

Most comments The Constant I wrote this as a challenge thing for @presentstone and it’s another multiple chapter thing, also related to my long fic. It’s about a platonic friendship.

Most bookmarks Tempest another Urbosa story, this is sort of a prequel to Shipwreck. Written for an event that collapsed under me, post it out of spite anyway.

Most words Uneasy Lies the Chosen of Farore which clocks in at just under 88k. This fic also has the most hits, kudos, comments and bookmarks…as it’s multi chapter and I published as I went back in the dark days of 2020. It’s Legend of Zelda but what if Link and Zelda were in their 40s.

Least words Nightmare I think this was some tumblr game thing? Another offshoot from Farore and a quick 154 words. Actually, it fits into The Constant, too.

I honestly don’t even know who is writing any more. I feel like I’ve dropped out of this part of fandom a lot, and I don’t see the blogs I used to interact with, so some shots in the dark to @zeldaelmo @wanderingnightingale @cooking-with-hailstones @zeldaseyebrows and anyone who wants to play.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

The number says 81 but that’s because I have a series version of aftermath from when it was supposed to be just loosely connected one-shots, before it spiraled into the monster it became. I kept it up along with the chapter-by-chapter version because I had people following along with the story that way, and I didn’t want to get rid of my very first comments on ao3 by deleting them.

Taking those out of the equation, I only have 29 🤣

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

With the series version of aftermath, 486,278. Without it, 380,218. Either way, holy shit.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

My main one is the Legend of Zelda, obviously, but I also dabble in Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen (wips only rn lmao), Final Fantasy XVI, and even Batman!

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

these numbers are crazy to me I haven’t looked at my stats in FOREVER!

the fifth one, “trying”, is so funny to me because it’s technically chapter five of “aftermath”, coming from the series version way back in 2020 when I was only in my sixth day of writing fanfic. I don’t know what possessed me back then that I was able to write five chapters in six days (possibly the small word counts and my freshman year of college being zoom university LOL) but I did it!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes, though I never really say much other than a “thank you for reading and commenting!”

I sometimes wish I could be like other authors and spark conversations in my responses, but I never know what to say other than the thank yous! I’m much more verbose in dms/discord servers 😂

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

either my newest zelda fic, avatar, or a thing that doesn’t change with time.

immortal beedle is weird, thoughc because it’s not angsty in the sense that it’s all that sad, it’s angsty because of the Implications.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

this is a tough one, because so many have happy endings! I think the happiest is tied between my post-totk fic, something borrowed, and with every drop of rain singin’, where link rescues zelda from the calamity but she has amnesia after.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I’ve only ever gotten three instances of it, but one of those times was someone connecting evil zelink to communism and covid vaccines for some strange reason?? I still don’t know what the hell that was about 💀

I tend to just delete any “hate” comments from my inbox but keep them on the fic itself (except for the communism person because what, though I have them screenshotted to laugh at because it’s so bizarre), because I don’t like to erase what anyone’s said.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! It tends to be on the, uh, rougher side, because I’ve grown tired of soft fluffy lovemaking in fics, but when it needs to be soft and sweet I can do that as well 😆 the only instance where I’ve written smut with the intention of not being sexy is my chainsaw man fic, ignorance is bliss, where it’s more of a warning sign about the relationship as the fic progresses.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I don’t write any crossovers! I haven’t felt the inspiration to, and I don’t even know what I would crossover in the first place.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Again, not to my knowledge, but if someone would want to translate any of my fics I would just like them to ask for permission! They’d definitely get it 😂

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but I would like to at some point! It’s been a while since I’ve done collaborative writing, but when I did do it as a writing exercise it was fun.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

In terms of fic writing, zelink of course. In terms of reading, I’ve been on a satosugu (a jujutsu kaisen ship) kick lately thanks to, um, Recent Events in both the anime and the manga. if you know you know 😭

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

god I hate to say I’ll never finish something but honestly it’s either “a memory of younger days” or “faded into legend”.

I haven’t thought about either of those fics in soooooo long, and part of me wants to take them down but another part of me has hope that one day I’ll get the spark for them again. the aftermath cinematic universe series as a whole is something im constantly rotating in my brain and adding little things to, but it takes so much of my brainpower that I need a Break from it for a bit 😂

but I will finish the Urbosa fic. that’s a promise to myself, because I do love it so so much.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I always get comments about my dialogue and characterization, and I always enjoy those parts of writing, so those!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I cannot describe a setting to save my life 💀

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I would love to, but I only speak English! If I could do it properly without relying on something like Google Translate I would do it in a heartbeat.

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

GOD that’s hard. I really love all of my fics, but I got a comment on with every drop of rain singin’ last night which made me reread the whole thing, and something about the Emotion and pure Vibes that fic has still gets me sometimes, because the whole thing was inspired by Pink In The Night by Mitski. a bookmark on it says “gets sappy quick” and it’s the truth, because I really did just have link think about his love for a zelda that doesn’t know who he is for 33k.

Fic Stats Meme

Thank you both for the tags, @wanderingnightingale and @aquaticpal! I've been pretty quiet on tumblr lately, so I appreciate that you both thought of me 🥹 🥰

Most hits Before and After [E], this is a post-botw/pre-totk story from Link's perspective. Zelda's flirty behavior suggests they'd had some kind of relationship pre-Calamity, but the nature of their relationship is unclear 👀 Link begins to have vivid dreams of pre-calamity memories that start to fill in the gaps. The story explores Link's memory and sense of self. I think the last few chapters I've posted start to do some interesting things with this exploration. This is my longest fic: it's 164,668 words and 30 chapters so far with ~6 more planned. I've been posting since October 2019, wowie!

Second most kudos Assertive [E] Oh, it surprised me that this is my second most kudos'd fic. This was the third fic I ever posted! It's technically a sequel to another fic called "Progression", but it can be read as a standalone as well. "Assertive" is pure smut. In this fic, Zelda gets hot and bothered when Link is assertive in a royal council meeting. Things... happen... lol

Third most comments Farore's Day on Windvane Lane [T] This story was inspired by a real life, comical encounter that occurred on Thanksgiving Day. The whole story made me wonder, "Can I make this Zelink?" Answer: yes! This is a modern AU where Zelda is a single mother and Link's neighbor. During the Farore's Day holiday, she knocks on his door asking for help with something for her own holiday meal. Sparks fly in a cozy holiday setting!

Fourth most bookmarks Asymmetry [T] This is a oneshot set just post-Calamity. The very first night after defeating the Calamity Link is flirty with Zelda, but as soon as the two of them arrive in Kakariko, Link's behavior changes. He becomes unreadable and withdrawn, hardly speaking with Zelda. She, of course, finds herself confused and frustrated. Something happens that forces them to finally talk and the truth of Link's distance finally comes out. Fluffy, young love in this story :)

Fifth most words Under the Surface [M] Oh, this one has a special place in my heart. This is a oneshot set post-Calamity. Zelda finds herself disappointed at how little Link remembers despite all his efforts to get his memories. A barrier goes up between them, causing their dynamic to be tense. Eventually, that barrier begins to come down and a breakthrough moment occurs when Link pulls Zelda into the woods to show her a cicada shell.

Least words composing our future [G] @ravenmist4 started this fic where Zelda writes a letter to Link! Raven asked if anyone wanted to collaborate and I jumped in :D I found Raven's letter written by Zelda to be so compelling and sweet that I couldn't help but think about what Link's own letters would be.

Happy New Year! 2023 Recap, 2024 Resolutions

Seeing as my avatar for this blog is New Year Takumi, it feels fitting that I close out the year by reflecting on what's taken place. My personal circumstances this year have been challenging, and so far there isn't any sign of that changing. Fortunately, that hasn't stopped me from accomplishing a decent amount.

2023 Recap

First of all, @botwmusical was able to release our long-anticipated (by us) Highlights album! Download it here if you haven't. We worked so hard putting it together, and none of it could have been done without @dianapocalypse, @arrispect and the brilliant @wanderingnightingale. Hearing my music sung by our wonderful performers was an experience unlike any other.

I also wrote a first draft of the above's full script, and chronicled the journey at #sftwember. In hindsight, that tag would have looked better for a September project, rather than a November one... but it got written nonetheless!

On a more personal note, I got to enjoy a lot of new media this year which I really enjoyed. Persona 3, the Tellius games for Fire Emblem, of course Fire Emblem Engage, and maybe most notably Genshin Impact! That's right, I'm a Neuvillette main now and always... until I pull Kazuha. (Between him and Takumi, can you tell I have a type?)

2024 Resolutions

My resolutions for the coming year are as follows:

Write more! I've been planning a series of collab fics with a friend, which I'm very excited for, and there's a big Three Houses project on the horizon that I can't wait to take off. At long last, I'm getting back into Fódlan, and so far it's looking glorious.

Finalise the @botwmusical script, and start arranging material for the full version of the show. We aren't sure what form this will take yet, but there's some incredibly strong stuff that I think people will love.

Produce a rough draft for my next musical adaptation, and write a good amount of the material. My creative Vision has never been stronger. At the very least, I think it warrants a trial period. Hydro. In all seriousness, the opening number is coming along very very well, and I'm excited to share it with you all.

Another personal note: resume playing D&D! I have a great group I was playing with last year, and I'd love to get back into it again.

Aw, ty for the ask, @wanderingnightingale Here’s another snippet from Captain Araki. For those of you following along and wondering when is Zelda ever going to show up—she makes her grand entrance in Chapter Five.

This excerpt is from Chapter Nine:

Spotting the prizes gives Link an idea. If the princess likes fun and games, she might go for a friendly competition. “How about a little wager to make things interesting?”

“What kind of wager?” Zelda steps to the counter, studying the bottles lining the three tiers beneath the prizes.

“I win; you tell me what the goddess pearls unlock. You win; I’ll take you wherever you wish in Hyrule.” Either way, Link figures he wins. If she’s led as sheltered a life as he suspects, it should be easy enough to convince her to go to the Seven Star Isles without realizing that’s where he wants her to choose.

“Hmmm.” Zelda nibbles on her bottom lip as she contemplates his offer. “Very well, I accept that challenge.”

Link nods to the barker and hands him a blue rupee. The barker gives him ten rings in return, which Link divides between himself and Zelda. “Ladies first.

Due to a busy schedule and other personal commitments, I couldn't watch the Songs from the Wild premiere until last night. But- I finally got around to it, and I was floored. Everyone involved did SUCH an amazing job, but especially our leading lady: WanderingNightingale, who played Zelda flawlessly.

Even though we don't talk often, I have been so incredibly honored by the fact that I can call you a friend (even though we've never met in person). Ever since I discovered the BotW Musical, I have been so in awe of your talent, and I am so happy to say that you as a person are as lovely as your voice.

I painted this while I listened to the premiere. I don't know if you celebrate Christmas, so I'm not sure whether or not to call this a Christmas present per se- but either way, it is a gift of friendship from me to you. I hope you like it!
