Walter Hopps...Walter opened Ferus Gallery and partnered with Irving Blum and they gave Warhol his first show in 1962 which had his Campbell soup can set of 32 which Walter convinced Irving to purchase for 1000$ and later in 1996 sell to MOMA for 15 million. In 1963 the young Walter organized Marcel Duchamp’s first retrospective at Pasadena Art Museum where Duchamp played chess with a nude opponent. UPO: Unidentified Printed Objects

This vitrine exhibition consists of inventory numbers for seven unidentified printed objects from the archive.  Within each shipment of Obrist’s books and related material sent to the archive, a few items will lack identifying information.  For example, a photocopy with no bibliographic information attached, or a piece of correspondence.  Until they are later identified by Obrist, they are placed in a box labeled “UPO” (Unidentified Printed Objects).  The display of inventory numbers and verbal descriptions here reflects the vexing enigma of mapping the archive, and offers new ways of thinking about ephemera.
