If you can’t tell from the picture I am in the process of getting a tooth fixed (dental work is expensive)! I’ve been working hard to hide it because the shitty committee in my head likes to tell me that if my teeth aren’t perfect I’m not worthy! Idk why...so here’s the backstory... • • I’ve always been self conscious about my mouth and teeth. In second grade I had the lovely experience of eating asphalt, and a tether ball pole one day at recess(#onlygracefulwhendancing). This landed me in the ER with 30 stitches on the right side of my lip, a cracked front tooth, and another damaged tooth. We all agreed (my parents and the dentist, I was 8) that we shouldn’t mess with that tooth until I got older, and only if a problem showed up. If you look carefully at the lower, right corner you can see the scar on my lip. Well, now I am 23, and one day I was eating a lovely bowl of cereal when my tooth decided it was time to disintegrate. I do have a flip to hide it, but it’s terribly uncomfortable to wear. Also, anything dealing with my mouth/head/neck really affects my brain injury/surrounding areas. I have decided to conquer my fear since I know it will be fixed soon. As I’m starting a new chapter in my Pinup journey, I thought it would be good time to reflect on how I start! • • My journey into the world of pinup started when I was 12 years old. I have always been incredibly passionate about historical fashion, and women’s history; especially the silver/golden age of Hollywood (30’s-60’s)! The glamours clothing, hair, makeup. Women taking their style into their own hands during a period of depression, using it to empower themselves, savoring their femininity. The more I learned, the more I fell in love with the style.
As that passion grew, I was slowly discovering the photography side of the pinup world, having taken multiple photography classes in high school; I always loved the film median. I was discovering the greats such as Bettie Paige, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, so on and so forth! I was sold!! I NEEDED to go from behind the camera to in front of it. I so badly wanted to be these women- flooring all this who crossed my pathed. Becoming the ever loved femme-fatal!!
Since I could’t do a pin-up styled shoot until I was 18, from ages 16 to 17 I started planning, building my wardrobe so that when I turned 18, I would be ready to shoot! Finally the day arrived, and I fell in love with the camera! I can’t believe it’s been 10yrs since I started learning, 5yrs since my first shoot, and a year since I started my blog!!! I’m going to let everyone in on a secret- I don’t wear frills, and lace panties on an everyday basis! Ninety percent of the time I wear cute cotton panties. Why? Because it’s so much healthier, and 100x more comfortable than any other material. It has taken my 5+ years to get victory rolls down! I tried so many different ways get them right, but I could never seem to get it down. Then I had a break through conversation with @le_petit_sugar, and I finally had success!!! One of the biggest reasons I love the #pinupcommunity is because we are here to build one another up!!! #girlpower • • Keep Reading below for a tutorial ⬇️⬇️⬇️ • • • Hair Tools: 1. Teasing brush/ boar bristle brush 2.Rat Tail Comb 3. Bobby Pins Hair Products: 1.Suavecita Pomade (@suavecitapomade love your pomade!!) 2. Paul Mitchell Extra Body Sculpting foam and gel 3. Hairspray 4.Sexy Body Soy Renewal Beach Spray • • I did not curl my hair for this look. My hair has a difficult curl pattern, attempting to curl it just made creating my victory rolls way too difficult. spray the texture spray and the Paul Mitchell products use about a nickel to quarter size dollop and run it through your hair; focusing most of the product at the root. Then depending on how big you want section your hair appropriately. Tease your hair from root to tip in a c-shaped motion (this keeps from pulling out your tease). Once you’ve teased your hair, take a dime sized amount of pomade run it through the sections. Gently brush your hair to where you would like your victory rolls to sit; then taking the end of your hair between your index finger and thumb, while keeping slight tension begin to roll down to the roots. Pin in place, spray an good amount of hairspray, and clean up the fly aways.
