I hope that someday, somebody wants to hold you for twenty minutes straight, and that's all they do. They don't pull away. They don't look at your face. They don't try to kiss you. All they do is wrap you up in their arms, without an ounce of selfishness in it.
Jenna, Waitress

just saw the waitress proshot. most vindicating moment was when jenna & becky were dancing at dawn’s wedding and i thought to myself [I think they do lesbianisms together which is fine.jpg] and almost immediately jenna said “maybe we should have an affair”
#waitress#jenna hunterson#becky waitress#apparently she does not have a canonical last name. how rude

- Sadie N' Jamie: Order Up! -
I'm plan to do more posts like this where it's just random fit checks for my characters. Today, we have Sadie and Jamie dressing up in a diner outfit taken from Doctor Who. Featuring Clara Oswald.
Because Jamie is more of a pants kind of girl. I decided to give her pants instead of a skirt. I like Clara Oswald/ Jenna Coleman's costumes a lot. This diner waitress outfit is really cute~
I took some creative liberties with how the girls would wear it. Sadie is just borrowing Clara's pose and Jamie ties up a ponytail. I'm going to do more of this coloured lineart for the nose and hair.
I'm also gonna test out more shades because I think that is still my weakness. You'll see more of the girls in unique outfits in the future. Those girl accounts where they dress up in various OOTDs (outfit of the day) is very helpful!

I’ve been going crazy about this since I saw the waitress pro shot in December:
Sarah Bareilles is a lyrical genius for this line alone.
In Bad Idea, during the bridge, Dr. Pomatter and Jenna sing, “I know what’s right for me, it’s the only thing—“
Now pause here.
Nearly every lyrics site has told me they both sing “I’ve ever done” after that line.
Not. True.
If you listen closely, you can clearly hear, Pomatter say, “I’ve ever done” when Jenna says, “I’ve NEVER done”.
ABSOLUTE GENIUS ON SARAHS PART.
Why? You may ask— and thank you so much for asking.
This addition of one letter explains the deepest most fundamental parts of their personalities.
Pomatter says, “I know what’s right for me, it’s the only thing I’ve ever done,” because all his life Pomatter has done things that are—by definition— right for him. He became a doctor, he married a doctor, he’s played it safe and kept his cards close to his chest emotionally, doing the best, safest things for himself.
Jenna on the other hand, sings, “I know what’s right for me, it’s the only thing I’ve never done,” because throughout her life she’s seen all these things that are good and right for her to pursue and she hasn’t taken the risk to go after them, (ie the pie contest). In Jenna’s life, the things that have been the safest are bad for her.
So even though they have the opposite problem, they have both played everything so safe in their lives, this affair is something that fulfills that need to do something crazy and feel something deeply for a change.
In this essay I will—

one of the most frequent criticisms of waitress that gets tossed around is "it's too cutesy and saccharine" and I don't not get what people are getting at when they say that but I feel like the show has considerably too much on-stage sex and domestic violence for that to really ring true. tbh.
#not to go all identity politics but I think you can only find it overly sweet if you've never been in proximity to domestic abuse#the scenes with earl and jenna are Tense. like sometimes hard-to-watch tense.#waitress#marina marvels at life

Waitress the Musical posting again but I really cannot forgive Tiktok for turning "Never Ever Getting Rid of Me" into this creepy yandere stalker sort of thing when the actual song is about how Ogie is trying to tell Dawn that he truly loves her and that he's not going to give up on her no matter how many times she pushes him away- not because he's being annoying and doing that obnoxious "can't take no for an answer" thing that cishet men do but because he knows that she loves him back but won't accept his love because she's scared of losing it.
We see in "When He Sees Me" that Dawn isn't opposed to the idea of romance at all and that she even craves it, but she's terrified that the people she might fall in love with will either hurt her or won't share her feelings, leaving her feeling like she can't trust anyone or let them into her heart for fear of it backfiring. Hence the lyrics "I'm just fine inside my shell-shaped mind this way I get the best view."
"Never Ever Getting Rid of Me" isn't about Ogie stalking Dawn or pestering her until she says yes, it's about him loving her in spite of all of her barriers and defenses and trying to show her that he's not someone she needs to keep them up for. It's about him showing her that he's patient enough to wait for her to let her walls down to trust him instead of forcing her to take them down for him, waiting for her to come to him on her terms and knowing that she's scared and being gentle and patient and loving enough to hold out his hand and to say "You can take it when you're ready. I'll be here, no matter how long it takes. I'll wait for you, and I want you to be happy and comfortable just as much as I want to love you and call you mine."
And then when she finally does take his hand in "I Love You Like a Table," he tells her that he'll continue to be just as patient and loving throughout their relationship and that they can withstand anything together. That their love is a table that can hold any weight as long as they're together. And Dawn is absolutely overjoyed that she's found someone who has proven her wrong and shown her that he truly loves her and isn't going going to hurt her and loves her for the sake of loving her. She's so happy, in fact, that she wrote twenty-nine drafts of wedding vows trying to describe how she felt that she couldn't put into words and instead found that a drum line could convey it better than words ever could.
"I love you means you're never ever ever getting rid of me" means that no matter how much Dawn pushes him away, Ogie isn't going to leave. He's going to stay by her side no matter how difficult that is because he loves her. It's about unconditional love in spite of all of Dawn's fears and standing like a rock by your partner's side when they need you most and when the feel the most frail.
#waitress the musical#Never Ever Getting Rid Of me#I Love You Like a Table#When He Sees Me#trish rambles#I relate to Dawn. A whole lot. And her story in Waitress makes me so emotional.#Jenna's as well but for different reasons.
