I think I did not quite expect Emily to have a "She used to be mine" [Waitress] moment or arc in season 17, but holy fuck was it deserved. The season 17 finale is still with me. Maybe it shouldnt, but her speech in the kidnapping talk down gave me such a pleasant shock that they were touching on that side of all the shit she's been through. Most of all the allusion to SA that really had me going "oh shit."

Emily reckless *just* enough Prentiss. Her work has taken so much from her, and she keeps trucking. Emily for 16 seasons screams "I know what's right for me. It's the only thing I've never done."

Romance doesn't have to happen for a character to get a happy ending, but if she does get one, she deserves it to be the biggest happiness. Like a coming home sort of thing. I don't really know how they would do that without background [insert your favourite Emily ship here], but I'd be so excited and so willing to see it happen with whatever character they'd introduce for her (except any of her past boyfriends, because I cannot make sense of Emily's type for the life of me, but I haven't given it close enough analysis).
