Mulder is charming because his jokes and jabs aren't self indulgent. He doesn't tease Scully for peer validation or to feed his ego, he does it to get a reaction from her.
I don't think his character was written to be funny, but he is funny to Scully. He's plenty attractive and gets enough attention to be obnoxious about it, but he isn't. He's an oxford graduate and could take this stance of intellectual superiority, but he doesn't.
He values Scully's opinion from day one. He listens, he checks in with her, he gages her reaction. And that's endlessly more appealing to see than an arrogant and self assured playboy male lead. He's not a romantic hero but he also is.

thinking again about how everyone, even the rest of the characters and buck himself, fundamentally misunderstanding who Buck 1.0 was and his motivations. because yes, he was a flirt who slept around a LOT but never in any of his interactions with these women does he display fuckboy or playboy behavior. everyone has this idea that he was this man whore running around breaking women's hearts left and right because he didn't respect them and only wanted sex. and they believed this so hard that Buck believed it.
except that first scene we get with Buck stealing the firetruck to sleep w the first girl, he's the one who gets rejected when he tries to make it anything deeper. and it right out the gate tells the audience that this is someone so stupidly desperate for affection that he's looking for it in all the wrong places and actively sabotaging his career to make it happen because he doesn't know how else to find it. because no one else has ever wanted that with him.
and idk so much of the fandom has (imo) accurately clocked the sex as a form of self harm as well - a new way of using his body to get attention because his parents aren't around to care when he throws himself into oncoming traffic anymore
and I just get really in my feelings about it because no one in his life GETS it. eddie comes closest but he's missing so much key context and I just want so badly for the show to circle back to this in some way but I know they'll never do it right

Chimney used to hide anything that he thought would make him seem weak or vulnerable from his girlfriend and now he’s laying in bed by his wife talking about how much he loves his daughter, admitting that he’s scared of his wife hurting again and sharing openly how he feels about his family. Very proud feeling very warm inside

Helen Norville truly is the female character of all time.
She’s strong, but not in a way a caricature “strong female character” is strong (being physically powerful, aggressive, capable of violence, etc). She’s not just a male character but sexy.
She’s thoughtful, sure in her convictions, decicated to helping the vulnerable, empathetic. She has a strong sense of justice. She’s loving. She protects people she loves. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to take it. She keeps standing up for herself and others even though she’s constantly being met with people putting her down in the worst ways. She has an open mind despite all the culture around her telling her not to. She endured many years of abuse and persevered. She’s extremely competent and knows it. She’s unapologetic. And she has amazing hair.
She’s also extremely vulnerable, easily swayed by personal attacks, unstable, prone to sinking to lows, gets overwhelmed by her emotions and is generally a bit of a mess. She flees when she’s scared. She’s deeply insecure when it comes to close relationships. She is affected by serious mental health issues. She has trauma and shame around it.
She’s Dale’s superior. She’s his mentor. She’s older than him. She doesn’t want marriage or children. What a beautiful “fuck you” to rigid patriarchal gender roles.
If this doesn’t read “complex female character who has real depth and isn’t made for male gaze but is fully human and her own person” idk what does. Thank you for reading my essay
#followed as soon as i saw the username#i am so glad i finally stumbled onto newsreader tumblr#Helen i hope you find every hapiness#season 3 might break me if its the same emotional stress

Story summary: This takes place a few months after 2.06 “Fireworks” so mind the spoilers.
Following a tragedy that leaves Dale spiralling even more out of control, Helen flies back home. Because despite the mess they’ve become, they will always be that person for one another. At least, it remains true as far as she’s concerned.
Loyal to a fault.

got told at lunch "you feel like Tumblr Incarnate" and i had to tell them i've been here for 13 years and counting. i was here three years before dashcon happened. i saw the mishapocalypse. i survived the gigapause. i've been here longer than the shoelaces post. i've been here since it was hipsters versus fandom and i played both sides extensively by overdoing the sepia filters on everything and making my own flashing galaxy gif edits for my fandom posts. i'm every tumblr. it's all in me

"Waiting, waiting... Ooooh!"
Here comes a proper concept illustration of Odysseus’ wifey!
Since Penelope is very underdeveloped in Epic, it’s hard to pin down what her personality is in the musical, so I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from the original Odyssey and added some of my own ideas. Initially, I liked the idea of portraying her as a graceful queen, someone who always smiles despite how rudely the suitors treat her. But then I realized I really liked using visual language to show how Odysseus remembers Penelope from his sweetest memories.
Because of all the trauma he experiences on his journey, Penelope becomes more of an "end destination" for him, a symbol of hope. To Odysseus, once he gets back to Penelope, everything will be fine. In his visions or memories, Penelope with a warm smile, little bit soft on the edges. But the real her, the one we meet in The Challenge, looks tired and constantly angry, except, of course, when she thinks about Odysseus. This contrast helps the audience see that she has changed as well, both in how she looks and how she acts, compared to how Odysseus idealizes her.
I also really like the idea that the reason Penelope didn’t kick out the suitors wasn’t out of respect for some tradition that puts her in a position of servitude and compromise. Instead, it’s because Zeus himself came down and told her that if she kicked them out, he would smite Odysseus or Telemachus. That interpretation does fit how Epic the musical portrays Zeus so.....
This puts her in a position where she endures all of this to protect the ones she loves, rather than just following a tradition that don't even respect her due to she is a woman.
Also, funny thing, my first drawing of her was that reveal shot from the Thunder Bringer animatic!
And of course, she gets a veil! Similar to Hera and Circe! This choice is rooted in the tradition where married women wore veils, or at least something to cover their hair, when male guests entered their home. If Penelope walked around without a head covering in front of the suitors, it would signal that she was available, which is literally the opposite of what she wanted, don’t you think?
That said, I think I’ll design her veil a little differently. The one I drew here is kind of just a test.

eddie who has mentally slotted himself into the role of Buck’s Husband for years without actually realizing it until he starts to notice that he doesn’t mind when people assume. like when it’s just the two of them out to dinner somewhere and the waitress drops one check on the table instead of two and he gets to reach for his wallet and pass it back to her and buck doesn’t even really clock what’s happening because he’s in the middle of an infodump about a tarot card reader in los feliz that he and maddie went to see last weekend and eddie is smiling and rolling his eyes but asking enough questions that it’s obvious he actually is paying attention. going places together and holding the door open for buck and pulling his chair out and hanging back to watch him make conversation with the bartender. other parents at school events asking where buck is and eddie says oh he’s just parking the car, all the handicap spots were full :) which is true but also implies something because he isn’t denying anything, and sometimes he feels guilty for pretending or for letting people think a thing that’s not true, because buck isn’t his. not really, not actually, but then buck comes in from parking the car, or he finishes his big supernatural diatribe and realizes that eddie paid for dinner, or he catches his eye when eddie’s hand rests on his back as they’re walking in a crowd, and buck smiles in this way that’s like. oh okay. this isn’t pretending. buck just doesn’t realize yet, and that’s fine. eddie can wait for him to figure it out in his own time.
