Wait, Shurisu is the ship name between Shun and Alice?

I remember when Bakugan was airing and I would look for the episodes in YouTube and I would stumble upon ship amvs of Shun and Alice, even one where they claimed they would kiss later in S1 (obviously fake).

I distinctly remember it being one of the most popular ships in the fandom, but was the series hinting and building a possible relationship or friendship between the two and then dropped it later seasons? Or was it more of a fandom invention?

I wish Alice hadn’t been dropped as a character just to see how Shun came into terms with her being Masquerade. Is that something Shurisu as a ship has explored?

Yes it's the combination of Shun+Arisu (Alice's romanisation in JP) . Shalice was also a common name but I think Shurisu sounds better.

About them kissing I have an idea why. If you know Inesidora, she used to make lots of beautiful Shurisu fanarts. She would use a similar artstyle to bakugan's own for them, so people would share her art as spoilers 😂

Shurisu wasn't one of the most popular ships, it was THE most popular ship.There was literally no competition.Even when s4 was airing people were still waiting Alice to come back.Even right now talking about this like it was ages ago feels so weird to me but I know fandom changed so much since then

Ah little me knew and claimed the ship the moment i saw them 😄I still remember very clearly watching the intro for ep 1 for the first time(where Dan introduces us the brawlers) I looked at Dan and Runo and said "oh mc and his love interest?" and seeing Shun and Alice right after, fireworks went up inside my brain. I was like "and this is the couple that will steal the show" I wasn't completely wrong at least lol

In all seriousness though i think, the creators definitely had the intention to make them a couple but dropped it later.

Shun and Alice are both similar, so they are also very different compared to the rest of the team. I think that was intentional.They are both raised by their grandfathers,Shun was trained to be ninja and Alice was also learning under her scientist grandfather.Both are very smart, act mature for their age but also lonely inside.The difference is Alice was masking it (no pun intended🎭) with her more bubbly front. I think Alice also knew how similar they truly were.She was one of the very few people who could see through him and those who could, had already known him for a very long time unlike her(Shiori, Skyress and Dan)

She could sense his mood or what's going on inside his head despite the tough act he puts on.Also the time he wanted to leave the team and she went back after him,her words got to him because she told what he needed to hear,because she could understand how he was feeling.

Maybe not much important but it also always piqued my interest how we would see them together even on most random shots because apart from that, Shun would be pictured either alone or further back in group shots.

Like this moment before the last battle,they were at the opposite sides of the city,how did they end up together?

I think Shurisu was intended to be the opposite of the main couple in mind. In contrast to Dan and Runo's childishness, they would be the mature ship.Why I think they dropped later is that

1)They didn't know what to do with Alice later on so they wrote her off

2)They also didn't seemed to know how to handle Shun any better so decided to keep him as a loner and made being a "loner" his only character trait.

Which I think is very sad because they both individually and together had a lot of potential(not gonna drag this one i know y'all hear me keep talking about this lmao)

About her being Masquerade,We at least know Shun accepts her like the rest of group but since last arc focused more on the battles there was no focus on relationship or characters.And on NV Alice had limited appearance while Shun was on Vestroia most of the time. Through the whole season only once they seemed to be in the same room together (when they send Shun to vestroia via Michael's teleporter) and I belive that's where this pic came from?

Tl,dr; i think they were definitely made to be canon.But even if the creators were to came up today and claim they had no intention like that at all,it still wouldn't change anything for me.What matters is the characters dynamic.When you compare how they act like with eachother and with others and also look at their characters it becomes more clear. "The kind boy who puts on a tough act because he is troubled" and "The cheerful girl who is also troubled inside" is an old but loved dynamic afterall.So that's what drew a lot people in.

ah it’s not a culture or anything. it’s not frowned upon. i follow the asian fandom (jp mainly) and over there people generally separates into the ship dynamics they like. there are people who enjoys reverse or like their ships either way. i’m personally with the people who’s a bit strict with what i consume, i tend to have a specific thing i like and a certain dynamic. i’m not into switching or reverse stuff. and for certain ships, i only want them exclusive to each other. it’s just preferences.

like AxB is not the same as BxA. you might have encountered ship names that combines the same name, but bc of their positioning, it’s actually 2 seperate thing. there are people who enjoys either way tho. so really. it’s just personal preferences.

however, because in asian fandoms, people mingle with similar preferences and tend to keep in their group that way; in general if someone were to mix (say by tagging) both ship name together, some people might get uncomfortable from it. for example from my own personal experience; i draw AxB and tagged it as AxB. but my art got reblogged by people and they tagged it as BxA. it makes me uncomfortable for a bit bc that’s not my intention but there’s nothing i can do, really. it cant be helped in western communities, but doing that in asian communities might spark a drama. ship wars in asian communities are quite insane, there’s instances where the people even went as far as reporting them to authorities for basically ‘not shipping the same way’ or ‘hating BxA is more popular than AxB’

tagging and sorting system in asian social medias is not for your work to reach as many audience as you can, but to put your work in an already designated sorting system and to keep things as orderly as possible so that the person searching for a specific person can see it.

it’s a whole can of worms and it’ll take a long time for me to explain all the details but p much the gist is that.

it’s just personal preferences. but the main culture is to keep things accordingly so you don’t trouble anyone else.

Well, at least I had proper practice and all, so in the end I somehow pulled through.

Actually, we didn't really manage to practice getting in-sync with Hidaka-sensei all that much, since he's been so busy with work.

And there's a huge change in the overall atmosphere depending on whether he's there or not —

He completely stole away the gaze of the entire audience; and it’s probably thanks to the bigwigs’ intervention stepping in, but our production ended up grander than we'd originally planned…

Our demographic is totally different from Eve’s, too, plus I’m not used to this whole DreamFest thing.

I got kinda disoriented and ended up making a bunch of mistakes. Just me, and nobody else, y'know? It’s so frustrating…

Ohii-san and Sensei both performed perfectly, but I was the one dragging Lilith down.

Hokuto: I see. My father is to blame. I’m sorry about him, Sazanami.

Jun: Nah, it's nothing… Honestly, I wondered at first if Sensei wouldn't be used to singing in a unit since he mostly performs solo —

But he carried himself perfectly. You'd never guess he had less practice than the rest of us~

Even though we're a team, I found myself overwhelmed by his presence throughout the whole performance.

It's not that I think he was taking it easy, but even that seemed more like a trial run than anything for him, so it’s scary to imagine what he’ll come out with next.

Hokuto: Hmph. Or maybe that was his limit. My father's getting on in his years; you shouldn’t overestimate him.

gunter/corrin S support analyzing time >:)

last revelation liveblog ~ like the A-support it's another long one!

like most Fire Emblem supports, the C-B-A supports tend to be platonic or at least plausibly platonic, and then the S-support is the romantic paired ending.

because these two are freak nasty special(tm), their last A-support ended with corrin calling him her "father figure" ... which is especially hilarious when you know what's coming up here, heh.

they start with another game of catch ~

Corrin: Oh, I remember this deal. You always used this when I was refusing to study or train… Gunter: Exactly. I'll throw more and more difficult passes, and you have to catch them. We can work out some reward later if you catch them all, but I doubt you will.

(ngl i love that he takes so much set-up to ask that question versus just asking her cold turkey. it gives a feeling that he's -for all of his years of experience-nervous as a teenaged boy, and there's a very tragic bitterness underneath the implications.

since the thing is- he's not expecting this to go anywhere. he's expecting her to name somebody else, and hoping that by "knowing" that corrin's set on somebody else, she's unavailable to his deepest wishes. it's... easier to tell the heart that, to let go.)

tangentially, something else i unironically love about their relationship is that in most other corrin ships, she's the active party by default of being the main character (and the player being able to choose who they want to romance).

here though: the mentor/mentee (among others) power tilt sharply flavors it in his direction. i don't think there's another Fates ship that has this vibe (Yukimura, maybe, given he helped raise her early on? but Corrin has less memories there.) gunter's not afraid to lead, and what's real interesting is that corrin leans into it. given the sheer confusion, terror, and everything going on in the games-i think corrin seizes onto that strength and protection like an anchor.

so there's meta posts elsewhere on gunter's sheer guarded quality romantically elsewhere in the My Room lines. the man straight up apologizes for kissing corrin, versus some of the other characters which are a lot more sexually forward.

which is really interesting to compare and contrast to his JP supports where he actually blurts his confession to her without the careful prompting; he's much more forward there to some degree.

honestly, it's a really sad? the man doesn't even have the luxury of a true "yes, you" from her.

this is one of the biggest reasons I read Revelation with a one-sided longstanding (romantic) pining from his side; so many weird little camera angle decisions suddenly make sense, and apparently there was a paired ending between them that WAS coded in there sometime in development but got axed partway through.

(god, can you imagine what that would have been like? How cool would it have been to have a conversation similar to Jill in FE9 where you can actually have the enemy recruit her, and then you have to recruit her back only if she has an A-support with somebody. Imagine only being able to rescue Gunter back if you had a A or S support.)

anyway I don't know how much of that is cultural versus treehouse trying to "soften" any consent issues (bruh, it's already freak nasty :P) vs something else i'm not taking into consideration. not going to go as far to say he's a different character, but it does give a wildly different flavor to the S-support.

(i also feel like i need to post the link to the obligatory analysis essay on the "you are the only woman I have loved." line which is. ironically. a lie.)

I’d love to hear more about Mephistopheles’s friendship with Sakata Kintoki. I’ve never considered that dynamic before.

Friendship summary: Local area man meets a clown and immediately gets the clown's name wrong (and calls him Moose for short). Said clown decides this is hilarious and sticks around to see what other dumb things happen. here's a readmore

Mephi's plan failed within ten minutes. Oops! Shared interests! (golden bear, dozing bombs. machinery. also, safety but that came later) That, and while Mephi intended to just lie to Kintaro constantly about mundane goofy things, this also failed. Mephi has the majority of the brain cells between them (usually), which is funny because you'd think the clown would be the idiot.

Taro's the doof supreme (affectionate) brawn, Moose is the nerd (affectionate) brain. Together they make an actual team bc Mephi's good at strategic planning/traps (witchcraft/bombs) and Kintoki hits like a truck and has an easy escape option (golden bear).

I'll make it a decent format instead of name: dialogue bc that's a slog. Kintaro was initially based on just info from the JP server and tl'd dialogue so he's a lil dumber than canon sorry about that. mephi is never wrong bc im never wrong (<- was violently wrong about a bit of faust lore thats critically important to mephistos character. oopsy. tfw u suggest mephi lying about killing faust and then reread the interlude after introducing ghost faust DERAILED, MOVING ON)

Pointing at this was Mephisto, who had returned to be unnecessarily difficult.

"Wow, it's a wild sofa ostrich! I've never seen one in the wild before!"

"Hey, hey! He's no stupid ostrich, youuuu…. er….." Kintaro trailed off, staring at Mephisto. He wasn't actually sure what he was looking at.

"I'll wait!" Mephisto announced, pulling his legs off the ground to sit cross-legged in midair. His tails wagged slowly as he watched Kintato go through a variety of facial expressions while thinking.

"You trapeze artist!" Kintaro shot back well over a minute later, "That's what that get-up is supposed to be, ain't it?!"

Mephi grins and holds up two fingers. "Nope! Two tries!"

Kintaro "Ehhh"d for a moment, before announcing that he needed a hint. Lancer Elizabeth was standing nearby, rolling her eyes in disbelief. Even she wasn't this stupid! She had no right to judge, though, having attempted to sing on the roof to the new neighbors.

Mephisto gave Kintaro a big grin before tapping one of the horns on his hat as his hint. This man could probably guess a demon, or an oni, or--

"Oh, a deer!" Kintaro guessed confidently, and completely incorrectly.

Mephisto put a finger down. One guess remaining!

"Wait, wait, wait! Wait! I know! I know!"

Mephisto sat back in the air and waited for Kintaro to excitedly make his hypothesis known.

"You're a moose!" Kintaro announced, throwing his hands up, "I love meeses!" ---- (Mephisto broke out laughing before correcting Kintaro with more info than anyone else got. The trust was Instant. kintaro also wants to get piledriven by a moose, takes 10 dmg from mephi giving it an actual shot in the backyard, and then proceeds to get evaded by mephi like 4 times. eventually a bomb blew up, ash-facing both of them. scene ends with this. skipped him giving mephi a helmet and mephi accepting it. we also joked that this was a ship but its a friendship. mephis master does nothing to stop any of this, and neither does taro's.) Kintaro: [he picks up Mephisto] We're going to go on a drive! A drive into your heart! If no one else is going to befriend you, I am, Moose! Our friendship will be golden!! (other dumb shit they did together: clothes shopping (safety on bikes!), use an ouija board (mephi hated every second of it), i know theyve fought together at least twice, i dont remember what else. theres like 25 documents of this nonsense i dont remember shite. im not putting this in the tag i say putting it in the t)

HE'S DEAD. Or being withheld for no good reason (dramatic tension whatever, GIVE ME THE SILLY GROWN-ASS MAN).

I also wish the English translation brought over his funny speech style, but that's not a problem with Uruha himself.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I believe he was another traumatised youth until he met Kunishige, the man who showed him the joys of being silly. Samura taught him how to fight but Kunishige was his inspiration to live. (Non-romantic sense, just to be clear.)

13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?

I like the platonic ship he had with Hakuri. They were so good with each other especially with the potential for both of them to bounce off of Chihiro. What could have been, man, what could have been...

26. What's something the character has done you can't get over? Be it something funny, bad, good, serious, whatever?

This clash with Samura in chapter 56! It was a great character moment for him, ballsy as hell, but also a sign of how well he knew his instructor. It's proof of how strong his convictions about the Bearers needing to live was- he was willing to risk his life and trick Samura into getting warped out so the Masumi could delay the enemy for their escape.

I like him being run ragged trying to care for Uruha. He worries a lot about his charge.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I think he was the one to pull Uruha out of whatever funk he was in after learning about Kunishige's death. They're clearly close and Bandana cares for Uruha a great deal even in the JP translation. I want to believe that he was instrumental in giving Uruha a new reason to live even if I don't ship them romantically.

23. Favorite picture of this character?

I love how confident he is, and he earned it! He'd still be alive and well and waiting to greet Uruha at the train station if not for a certain detestable pink frog.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Cool, like the bandana. Hope we get to see more of him.

Blonde, since I think that's his hair colour. A pale blonde would go nicely with Uruha's dark green.

Cherry Magic TH Live Blogging

Couldn't decide whether to watch Blank Season 2, The Boyfriend reality show, or jump into the first 2 eps of 4 Minutes even though I can't watch it as it airs next week. Wasn't really feeling any of them fully though, so there I am with Cherry Magic TH which I've been meaning to watch for a while. One of the only recent GMMTV series that I've heard pretty much only positive things about because Last Twilight, the other GMMTV BL I've been meaning to watch, had a divisive last few episodes.

About TayNew, I thought their Kiss series side ship was alright but didn't really like Dark Blue Kiss, was annoyed by all the characters. Overall:

I had watched the Japanese Cherry Magic live-action, which everybody seemed to love but was pretty meh and forgettable to me, but I’m glad that I ended up liking this adaptation better. I was quite unsure about the whole thing when it was announced like 1.5 (almost 2?) years ago, so I’m eating my words.

TayNew’s BL work after multiple years apart and they were both better than their Dark Blue Kiss days I think, helped by the fact that they’ve individually done a bunch of acting work since then. Karan and Achi were cute and endearing (and felt more human/real to me than Kurosawa and Adachi I think? but i can’t remember much from CM JP to say it with certainty). The ship is kind of “boring” in that there isn’t much angst between the characters, not as much tension, they don’t end up breaking up 3/4 through, etc. and I find that it can be hard to care about those sorts of couples for 12 whole episodes but Karan and Achi were cute enough and had enough outside struggles to pull it off.

i’m so charmed by Jinta and Min actually, a vast improvement from the japanese version’s equivalent. How cute and endearing and I liked getting my little taste of celeb/non-celeb dating and typical idol show problems bc I enjoy these tropes, even though they weren’t fleshed out at all in this instance (I will love Thame-Po forever if they actually give me a good, proper show but idk if they will lol esp considering what I’ve heard about Only Boo!). I watched Mark and Junior first in their Midnight Museum storyline and it was good enough, a bit heartbreaking the way the stories in that show were but not mind blowing and I don’t think I’ll be watching Perfect 10 Liners, but I’d still be curious to see them in something different later on.

On the other hand, I didn’t care about Pai and Rock whatsoever. I knew they were gonna end up together based on people’s comments + the SingJan ship but it’s a shame that they didn’t keep aroace Pai though i know she’s not aroace in the OG manga). Even without that, I just didn’t care about it, I just wanted Rock to give up and leave Pai alone. Pai is great and I liked her putting her ex his place and choosing happiness etc but not the part where she screams whenever her real life coworkers Karan and Achi do anything cute like okay you ship them but keep it in your head pls.

I enjoyed the adaptation and how it had the Japanese touches (the company try work for specifically) while also introducing Thai elements (religion, festivals, dialects). Great improvement on the kissing department and I’m glad they also squeezed the wedding in there.

Another of those I enjoyed it and it was well-made but I doubt I’ll be thinking much about this and it didn’t give me any soft of brain worms.

thought this was v interesting so wanted to give my 2 cents! got into a bit of a tangent about honorifics at the end oops

I write in a bit of an odd style that's mostly omniscient 3rd person, with thoughts of different people happening simultaneously. I'll write names from the POV of the person's thoughts I'm currently writing, so Byakuya might be "Kuchiki-taichou" to someone who might only know him in passing, or "Nii-sama"/brother to Rukia, or "Byakuya" to Ichigo.

It depends a lot on the setting and closeness of the characters. In canon/canon-similar stories, I try to stick to titling as close as is to canon. If canon divergent, I take into account what kind of relationship two people might have, for example, if in the fic, Shunsui became friends with Shinji, they might drop honorifics or call each other by first names instead. I try not to use english nicknames because they can feel odd sometimes, and use shortened versions of names, (ex Shun-chan for shunsui), but I'll throw in terms like "darling" or "honey" if I'm writing osmething extremely fluffy

Mostly interchangeable, for example I use both reiatsu and spiritual pressure, individual cases might vary to make the sentence flow or sound good. Specifically with Taichou, I only use Taichou if it's used as a title, usually in dialogue, and captain otherwise.

No difference in being casual/formal, I think these are just habits I have and not something I actively think about. But if i'm referring to characters in regular conversation, I usually stick to whatever is most common, which can vary depending on where I'm talking. In a ship specific discord, I would use first names of the characters in the ship, but maybe in a different discord, I might use the last names instead.

Okay wait I think usage of Japanese vs. English terms/honorifics/etc. is really important in some fics and for getting ideas across without getting ideas across. Things like honorifics are completely lost if you just outright translate it into English. For example in early Bleach Kisuke refers to Rukia as "Kuchiki-sama", but if you directly translated "Kuchiki-sama" to "Miss Rukia". The implications and respect are completely lost, and it doesn't even sound all that great because nobody would really say "Miss Rukia" as a shopkeeper to a noble lady in English anyways? I feel like you would either just say "Miss", or "Miss Kuchiki", or perhaps even "Heir/Lady Kuchiki", but never with the first name unless you were already familiar with her, such as a personal attendant. Additionally, Not using honorifics at all is very throwing sometimes if a fic is set in canon because they *do* use honorifics to refer to each other, especially "Taichou", and "Captain Kuchiki" doesn't invoke the same level of respect from the speaker that "Kuchiki-taichou" does. Ofc I'm not bashing or complaining about peole who don't use honorifics or jp versions of things but I personally feel it's best to leave certain things untranslated because subtext gets lost and the imagery isn't as strong. Esp if you're trying to implicate closeness or relationships and all that. And also, the lack of honorifics/usage of jp terms is also an indicator that a fic may not be set in a canon universe, for example if the fic is set in a no powers au, or a fantasy au, or not in japan, then the intentional lack of honorifics becomes an influential factor in the thoughts/image that your fic evokes even if you don't consciously realize that. ALSO!! The ability to use the titling system as subtext and hidden meaning! like you can use honorifics to indicate a character is thinking about another character differently, and sometimes the character doesn't even realize! With use of honorifics, a character changing the way they refer to the other from last to first name is very big and significant!! But that kind of implication gets totally lost without usage of the honorifics system because in English, it's common to refer to "you" or another by first name regardless of how close you are. (unrelated, but for the love of all things good and holy, please don't translate names. They're names. You can't translate them. Don't.)

What proper nouns or speciality vocabulary (zanpakutou, etc.) do you use in Japanese vs. in translation? Do you use both interchangeably?

There was more than a few episodes of him legit going against the grain and being perceived as “the bad guy” and he didn’t care just cause he thought it was the right thing to do and I friggen LOVE that. I know some games have that characterization as well but it was just neat to that on a show

one of my favorite parts of his characterization in the show is how much it embodies his sa1/sa2 theme it doesnt matter.

so uh first thing that comes to mind is how. not self-centered he is. like i dont know where that characterization came from but its all over sonic media (dont get me wrong i still love that personality and think its hilarious. boom!sonic looking at you) but its just not how id describe his character in general

ANYWAYS like you said he literally Does Not care if something is 'good' or 'bad' he just does what he feels is right which is SO COOL for a character like him

like that one section of the show where egggman was making weird moon things for people's yards or something and sonic took one look at that and said Nope. literally everyone else was like bro?? we kinda need that light to live what are you doing?? and once again he Did Not care like he knew something was up and it wasnt good

and honestly i think its the little things about his personality that stand out to me the most. from his love for flowers. to spontaneously deciding to look for a small field of flowers in the mountains in the middle of nowhere becuse he knew cream had been feeling homesick. to random naps on rooftops because he feels like it. that kinda stuff

also he doesnt talk as much as his other characterizations. he figures stuff out silently in his head and you never really know exactly what hes thinking because his brain's moving a mile a minute (real adhd moment there) which is another thing thats not brought up much hes actually really smart? favorite example is the dark sonic episode (you know the one) when cosmo leaves to talk with black narcissus or whatever his name was. nobody knows where she is and everyone starts panicking but sonic's already figured out that she left the ship with the help of chris to get past the security. can we talk about how smart he is more often its one of my favorite characteristics of his

little off topic but theres also an episode of aosth (case of the missing hi-tops or something like that) where hes like a mini sherlock holmes and figures out who stole his shoes how they stole his shoes and why they stole his shoes and its. such a great episode guys please watch it. okok back to sonic x

The song "Oceans Between Us" by The Icarus Account could have been written for this ship. The lovely, overarching theme of this song is just so fitting for Finral and Finesse. Though the singer is traveling far away (with "miles and miles that [he's] yet to go" he hasn't forgotten his beloved who is waiting for him to return ("But tell me you love me and tell me again/ You wait for forever, you wait till the end"). If that isn't enough, there are also lines like "You're the only reason I come home/ My love" and a whole section of "You're the only one"s. It's an incredibly sweet song (for an incredibly sweet ship), and I think it really suits them. The ending, "You're mine forever and I'm yours/ Yours till the end" always brings a smile to my face.

"Make You Mine" by PUBLIC was my fifth most listened to song of 2021 (probably because it was on my Finral x Finesse playlist). Every time the line "put your hand in mine" comes up I always think of Finesse grabbing his hand when he's dropping the letter out of the spatial portal in Episode 154 (one of my all-time favourite Black Clover episodes). While I don't see them hurting each other all that much and there are a few bittersweet moments in this song, I mainly disregard those and focus on the bits I think are very fitting to this ship given that "You know that I want to be with you all the time/ You know that I won't stop until I make you mine" is a pretty good way to summarize all of Finral's newfound motivation to become a man worthy of Finesse's love.

"Only Us" was originally from the musical "Dear Evan Hansen," but I've linked the version by Carrie Underwood and Dan + Shay. I'm not sure where to even begin with this one since I'd really like to just copy and paste all of the lyrics into this post. The opening of the song just screams Finesse to me. She recognizes that Finral is insecure, but she loves him anyway and encourages him that he doesn't have to convince her that he is enough for her (i.e. "I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you/ I don't need you to search for the proof that I should/ You don't have to convince me/ You don't have to be scared you're not enough"). She knows that the past is painful, but she wants to move forward from that into something better, brighter, and happier together ("And what came before won't count anymore or matter").

Then the second verse just perfectly captures how I think Finral feels in this relationship. Finesse is his first love, but he never could have imagined that she would actually love him in return (i.e. "I never thought there'll be someone like you who would want me"). I think one of Finral's biggest motivations as a character is that he is starving for the unconditional love he didn't receive as a child, and when we meet him in the canon, we see that he is looking for it in all the wrong places (i.e. by practically throwing himself at every woman he sees). On a certain deep level, he really feels like he doesn't deserve to be loved, especially to be loved unconditionally, on the merits of just being Finral, but that doesn't stop him from wishing for it. I think the lines ""But if you really see me/ If you like me for me and nothing else/ Well, that's all that I've wanted for longer than you could possibly know" really speak to that.

What's so beautiful about Finral and Finesse as a ship is that she does see him for who he is and loves him for that, and I think that this song really captures that (especially the lines "You and me/ That's all that we needed to be/ And the rest of the world falls away"). That "'Til you're the only one, I still know how to see" line is just an added bonus.

"I Wanna Make You Happy" by Victory is a little on the nose given Finral's vow to "be the one to make Lady Finesse happy." However, it's a cute song full of warm and fuzzies for a cute ship full of warm and fuzzies.

"The Long and Winding Road" is a Beatles classic, and one of my favourite songs of all time. I think it fits the context of this ship extremely well because even though Finral has left Finesse to find his own way in the world, he is coming to realise that "the long and winding road" of his life's journey will eventually lead back to her. It's almost as if his heart has been with her all along, he just didn't know it.

I know "It Only Takes a Moment" is a showtune (from the musical "Hello Dolly") so it's a little out of the box, but it was just too perfect to pass up. I mean, if anyone is going to believe that "It only takes a moment/ To be loved a whole life long," it's Finral. This kind of hopeless romanticism just fits him so well, and I imagine that if he was to tell the story of how he fell in love with Finesse if would very much be a love at first sight kind of thing (on his side. I think it was a slow burn thing on her side). She was his first love, and, yes, I might be teasing him a bit with this song choice but it's pretty undeniable that he really was taken with her from the first time he saw her. When I listen to this song, I like to think of Finral explaining to his squad that he loves Finesse and has since the very beginning. These lines: "It only takes a moment/ For your eyes to meet and then/ Your heart knows in a moment/ You will never be alone again" especially just feel so much like him and his attitude towards his relationship.

Not to mention the fact that the line "I held her for an instant/But my arms felt sure and strong" always makes me think of this:

"Maybe Don't" by Maisie Peters and JP Saxe was a big inspiration for my Finral x Finesse story, "I'll Be Waiting," (especially the lines "We should never speak again/ Because I like you/ And lately it's been only getting worse/ So we should never speak again/ Because I want to/ I've run through every outcome and in every one I'm hurt.") I think this song as a whole really captures Finral's conflicted feelings in trying to reconcile the fact that he loves Finesse with the fact that she is probably going to marry his brother (which, I think, he knows will leave him heartbroken if he doesn't emotionally distance himself). Meanwhile, Finesse cares about him and is trying to gently suggest that maybe he doesn't have to do that. (The gentleness and almost shyness of that "maybe don't" sentiment feels a lot like her to me). I especially love the line: "I should always be alone/ You said maybe don't" and think the line "'Cause I run from the things that I want the most/ You said I get that's what you do but, maybe don't" is particularly fitting for these two.

Forbidden fruit ask time: Keith x Katarina. I know people in western fandom are understandably wary of this ship, but apparently it's one of the favourites for the Japanese audience and based on what I heard it actually has some decent foundation in novels (not as much as GeoKata, but still). Since you read novels and are #1 hamefura blog on Tumblr and know so much I wanted to ask you to tell us how KeiKata is doing in novels if it's okay owo??

owo!! lmao, I don't know about being the "#1 hamefura blog on tumblr" (I-I... I thought I was an art blog... :')) I mean I just like to ramble about hamefura lmao but I'm always happy to answer questions!

Yeah... Keith x Katarina is a hard subject to talk about considering how violent reactions can be depending on who you're talking to. I remember when Season 1 was airing, people really doesn't like Keith as a romantic option for Katarina due to them being siblings, and I'm honestly waiting for those people to react to the S2 OP and S2 in general. I've talked to a few people who don't like KeiKata at all, and they have the absolute right to dislike any ship that they want, but it did make me sad to know how much Keith is hated by the EN Fandom considering how loved he is in the JP Fandom. He's pretty much the most favorite male character and the second most shipped with Katarina.

A lot of people's issues with Keith stems from the fact that he and Katarina are step-sibling and that it's really weird for Keith to be romantically interested in Katarina (a person who sees him as a little brother completely). People are accusing him of taking advantage of Katarina's trust in him to keep her to himself and that pursuing her romantically would destroy the familial bond that they've had for years. The thing is that Keith treasures Katarina as a person, not as a sibling. Yes, Keith sees her as family, but he also sees her as more than family. To him, being able to be together with Katarina doesn't mean that he'll have to love her differently, but that he will be able to love her even more deeply and honestly. You can even headcanon that the reason Keith calls Katarina "big sister" is because he's asked to do so, and because it's a symbol of his acceptance into the family, but maybe not necessarily how he sees her.

Some of the material that will be covered in Season 2 is about Keith, so I don't know how much I want to talk about that since most fans will be able to see it themselves. Keith has it the hardest because his position makes it so that he's the least likely to get his feelings across to Katarina due to their relationship. In one of the upcoming arcs in the anime, Keith will be able to break Katarina's baka shield in the same way Geordo does: by using actions instead of words, and by just literally finding the courage to take the risk and tell her.

That's where one of the interesting things about hamefura comes into play: one of the reasons why people dislike KeiKata so much is that they feel like the reveal of Keith's feelings would awaken disgust and betrayal in Katarina. Few fanfics of hamefura portray it that way, that Katarina would be weirded out by his feelings and reject them immediately. Maybe it's because Katarina is aware of Keith as not only a sibling, but also as a romance-able character in an otome game (also because of the nature of this series lmao), that in canon, she doesn't take his confession negatively and is flushed/embarrassed by it just like Geordo's confession. I know the "weirded out" reaction is the most realistic, but maybe Katarina also understands that their relationship doesn't have a clear label. They care for each other very much and whether that bond is romantic, familial or friendship isn't something they bothered to really name, maybe? Lmao I don't know, that last bit is just speculation on my part, I can't exactly get into Katarina's head and pinpoint what she thought of Keith's confession.

If I'm being honest, she forgets about Keith's confession more often than she does Geordo, mostly because nothing really changed after he made his feelings clear. I wouldn't say that she dismissed it, it's just that she's forgetting it because in her perspective being loved as a woman and as family by Keith both means that he'll take care of her and shower her with attention (aka no difference).

When I think about how "KeiKata is doing in the novels", for some reason the first thing that comes to my mind is the line "how they treated Geordo in the anime, from a JP perspective". I know that sounds confusing, but what I mean is that a lot of Arc 2 - FL2 scenes with KeiKata is kinda fanservice (aka the thing they tried to do for Geordo in the anime which worked for JP fans but made him hated by the EN fans) (not me trying to insert Geordo in a post about Keith hehe :V). Excluding all the Keith scenes that are coming in Season 2 of the anime and the current arc of the manga, the story really likes to test Keith's self-control when it comes to seeing Katarina as a woman.

Keith's scenes with Katarina aren't necessarily "hot and spicy" by any means, but people nowadays tend to be quite bothered and annoyed at typical japanese romance tropes being played out in modern anime series (such as bed-pining, surprised kisses and kabedons). I mean yeah I'd be bothered too if someone pulled those moves on me in real life, but for the japanese audience this is what their fanservice is like so that's the kind of stuff we'll see in hamefura. Just like Geordo, Keith is given a few scenes where he's put in a romantic spot with Katarina after he confessed, but it always just ends with him backing out and hoping that it at least could remind Katarina of how he sees her (like bed-pinning in LN6 & affectionate touches from Katarina in LN8). A lot of hate towards Keith stems from these scenes because people sees this as a disrespect towards Katarina and the familial relationship they have. These scenes helps reinforce how Keith sees Katarina as a woman and not as a sister, but depending on who you're siding with, you're either gonna be disgusted at Keith or extremely pissed off at Katarina's lack of propriety & density.

Like, people are getting angry at Keith for being a teenage boy who is being bothered by affectionate touches from the girl he likes who is also always approaching him with only a nightgown? I mean blame the author or Keith all you want but at least put some responsibility on Katarina as well :V People are really saying "well, he shouldn't be bot and bothered by it in the first place, they are siblings! that's disgusting!" well again, Keith sees her as a woman and Katarina needs to be aware that she shouldn't be so touchy with the opposite sex regardless if it's family. Keith kinda blames Katarina for the way he feels given how she acts around him despite being unaware of his feelings, which is also the cause of some hatred towards Keith.

People are saying that Keith is dumping *all* the responsibility onto Katarina because she acts in such an affectionate way towards him, but in reality Keith feels really bad & also hates himself for being so attracted to her when she doesn't even know about his feelings. He puts a lot of blame onto himself and thinks he's just as bad as Geordo sometimes (not saying Geordo is bad, more like Keith's "idea of Geordo" being bad lmao). Keith always walks on eggshells around Katarina because he doesn't want to disrespect how he feels about her and how she feels about him. It's just sad to see people hate him for the few moments where his self-control breaks so that he can act on his honest emotion, and accuse him of abusing Katarina's trust :((

Just like Geordo, Keith has made it clear how he feels and strongly desires to pursue her romantically, but his problem of being the step-sibling is still there. I haven't gotten my own copy of JP Volume 10 yet, I feel like I just wanna wait for the EN version instead of using GT, but multiple spoilers have noted that while Keith hasn't made progress in getting approval of his feelings from Katarina's side, he's at least able to get an approval from his family. Well, by that I mean Keith has already confessed his romantic feelings about Katarina to their father Luigi, and he replied by saying that he approves of whoever Katarina chooses for herself. Keith realizes that all he needs to do is get Katarina to return his feelings. When he does, his family wont hate him, but instead he'll be able to love them and be loved in the same, yet different way.

TLDR; a lot has happened to Keith throughout the light novels. He's progressing slowly and steadily just like Geordo, and is leagues ahead compared to the other characters. He has confessed his feelings and got reassurance of his relationship with his parents. Keith and Katarina's relationship itself hasn't really changed though, but it's nice to know that Keith is at least laying the foundations for his hypothetical future with her. Katarina doesn't really think about Keith enough to be able to tell how she feels about his confession or if her opinion on him has changed at all though, so take that as either an L or a W for Keith.

I've gotta defeat my art block so I can draw it myself TT_TT..... even for HanaNene, I feel like I can't rec much 'cuz it's often depicted a little.... one-note? Just like a normal relationship? I didn't know what to expect when I signed up for almost two years ago the moment Obbligato dropped, but I had no idea that it'd rapidly become one of the most beloved and emotional events of the !! era. Being able to learn about Jun's early days in Reimei was something I'd always dreamed of, and though the first meeting of Eve I'd hoped for may not have happened this time, it was incredible to see the initial foundation of Eden being laid down, of Hiyori and Nagisa picking themselves back up in the aftermath of ex-fine, of Jun's unwavering perseverance and commitment to staying true to himself throughout all the hardships he'd gone through… and I dearly hope both he and Tatsumi will one day learn the truth of what happened to the person he'd have been happy to be called a friend by. It was such a delight and honour to be able to work on all this with my good friend Peace, who in my opinion is the true MVP of the project considering just how much of the workload and Akira's endless monologues she took on! I'm as much a supporting role to her as Jun was to Tatsumi and Kaname, and she did incredible justice in bringing to life their earnest ideals and emotional struggles (especially in forming a voice from scratch for the latter!), along with HiMERU's bitter revelations as well as Adam once I entrusted them to her. I think our translation styles mesh very well whenever we collaborate, and who knows, maybe we'll be back for the eventual sequel!? Many thanks of course to our wonderful team for their support and hard work the whole time as well, and to all the friends who'd cheered us on! When Jay and I started this project back in May 2022, just a week before my birthday, I couldn't have imagined the way it would change my brain chemistry forever. I'd always loved Tatsumi's growth as a character, and having translated him several times before (researching quite in-depth into the sort of religious person he was, down to reading Japanese articles about the people who still live in Japan as he does) I was really excited to do it again! Taking on the Tojo brothers was something I was pretty excited and nervous about too actually, mostly since I had minimal experience with HiMERU himself and I'd be creating a whole voice for Kaname as I conveyed Akira's words the best I could. My thoughts when meeting Kaname was that he's a very distinct character, especially compared to his brother, and in his off-times he was such a brat! I loved that about him, and he had such a charming innocence about him I couldn't help but want to make that shine even more. In the later chapters when he starts to act more "HiMERU-like", I found it pretty fun to reflect that in his word choices and tone shifts... though he always cracked around Jun and Tatsumi, who I feel like he would be able to call his friends if he had the breathing room to. His relationship towards his older brother is as incredible sweet as it is sad, and I only wish they'll be able to speak plainly to one another someday. About halfway through our project, I decided to take charge of Adam's translations as well. I'd translated Nagisa a little before, but Ibara was a new face entirely! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed translating him actually, since I was a little afraid I wouldn't end up liking it at all... neither of them are my usual type, but I guess I was playing against it with everyone I worked on this time actually? (lol) People know me more for Trickstar and their sort, but I used to translate a lot of Valkyrie too! Ibara and Shu are similar in a perfectionist way, they're both very human in a certain way that others can't stand, and I had a lot of fun figuring out the best way to convey both Ibara's snake-oil salesman personality as well as his more "true" voice that comes out a bit in the story. Nagisa was such a blessing for his simplicity. Obbligato is a sorrowful tale of a group of boys made to grow up too fast, too soon, and the repercussions of that; it deals with generational stigma and trauma as a result of that, and while it is a genuinely hard read at times both for the descriptiveness of Tatsumi's childhood as well as the abuse Kaname and Jun have suffered due their names, don't shy from it. I've rarely had the delight to breathe life into such human characters before, painful as they are, and I can definitely say I'm happy with the finished project... in no small part thanks to the people I worked with over the past two years, because it was really nice to have my proofers' back-up when it came to certain economic lingo I wasn't as familiar with as well as the voices of some of the characters too. Having avid fans of Eden, Tatsumi, and HiMERU checking over my words made me feel so self-assured! Last but not least, thank you so much for your patience these past two years! We've worked really hard to make sure it's been worth the wait, so I hope you'll read it a thousand times over! HYPNOSIS MICROPHONE 4TH INTERNATIONAL POLL (DECEMBER 2020) Part 6: Fandom and the Future of HypMic

Thank you for your participation! These are the final results for the 4th Hypnosis Microphone International Poll. After months of work on this, we have estimates for general fandom opinions. Do you agree or disagree with the general opinions? Please let us know!

The results were held back from original posting as we were waiting to post for a month before the 2nd DRB finals (which is on Doppo’s Birthday this year.) My deepest apologies for how long this took to get out. We will be releasing these results with a section per day, with the end of these results showing the Japanese side.

PREFACE

The data collection for this poll received 902 votes to give us an indication of the demographic of those who consume Hypnosis Mic. This poll was open to English speakers, and thus, results may be considerably Euro/American-centric. The word ‘international’ has been used to refer to how fans are from many places around the world, but the poll may also refer to this group as ‘English-speaking’ etc. The Japanese poll had a smaller respondent pool with 400.

This poll received the most activity through Twitter, given that the series is most active on that platform. The poll was also posted on Tumblr, Facebook and the HypMic wiki. Commentary has been given on sections of the poll. These results will be available in full on from this account. The Japanese poll results shall follow about a week with comparison to this poll.

The poll was conducted from December 2020 to January 2021. This poll is UNOFFICIAL and none of the composers of this poll have any relation to King Records whatsoever.
