Jamil - Gingerbread Competition

Day 6 of Fluffcember 2024 Prompt: Gingerbread House (Fluffcember) & Building Gingerbread Houses Together (Fandom-Free Bingo) Rating: General Pairing: Jamil/Yuu

“What exactly is the point of this?” Jamil asked. His eyes flicked across the table in front of him. Bowls of colorful hard candies lined the center of the table, their contents previously picked over by eager hands. Piping bags filled with varying levels of icing were left scattered across the table. Two small houses made of hard gingerbread sat directly in front of them. “And why are we the only ones doing it?” 

On the other side of the room, the rest of their group sat bundled around the fireplace while Epel’s grandmother recounted previous sledathons. They looked almost comical surrounded by a group of children also attending the festival. Yuu stood beside him with her sleeves rolled up to her elbow. She still wore her applepom hat despite the comfortable temperature of the assembly hall. “You grumble too much. Pass me that piping bag.” 

Jamil pinched a corner of the bag between his fingers and slid it across the table for her to reach. His hands felt sticky just watching her grab the bag. She squeezed a large dollop of icing onto the crease of the roof. “Idia says this is practically mandatory. His anime waifus did it in some episode.” 

Choosing to ignore Yuu adopting Idia’s slang, Jamil silently watched her decorate the gingerbread house. Her lines were wobbly and there were patches where she put too much icing. When Jamil pointed the mistakes out to her, she huffed. “It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just supposed to be fun.” 

“That glob of icing looks like snot from a runny nose.” 

Yuu grabbed a handful of sprinkles from a nearby bowl and threw it at the runny icing. Only a few sprinkles adhered to the icing. The rest bounced across the table. Jamil was unimpressed. “Now it looks like rainbow snot.” 

“I’ll combine it with your snot if you don’t stop critiquing my work,” Yuu snapped. She grabbed another handful of candy and started sticking gumdrops to the side of the house. Jamil didn’t expect them to stay on, but the icing worked surprisingly well as glue. “But I guess that’s all you can do.” 

Jamil crossed his arms. “What does that mean?” 

“You’re obviously intimidated by my creative genius,” Yuu said, gesturing at her haphazardly decorated gingerbread house. “Why else would you be quaking in fear?” 

Jamil snorted. “If there’s any quaking happening, it’s from the sheer lack of hygiene. I caught one of the children sticking a gumball up his nose before putting it back in the bowl.” 

Yuu automatically reached for a gumball. She stuck it to the very front of her house. “Beautiful.” 

“You’re a menace.” 

“At least I have a personality.” 

“It wasn’t my personality you were staring at earlier.” 

Jamil smirked when Yuu immediately snapped her mouth shut. He’d caught her staring at him several times after they received their warmer outfits. Much more than the others, who were all dressed similarly to him. 

Yuu huffed and returned to decorating the house. “You can’t distract me with your tactics. I still know that I’m better at decorating than you.” 

“Excuse me?” 

“You heard me.” Yuu shook her piping bag at him. “You may be able to cook a curry, but gingerbread is clearly above your skill set.” 

Jamil wasn’t gullible enough to fall for her taunting, but he decided to indulge her anyway. He grabbed one of the fuller piping bags (meaning less hands had touched it) and sidestepped to stand directly in front of the other house. “If you insist playing this game then I suppose I have no choice but to oblige.” 

“This isn’t a game,” Yuu insisted. She started piping the sides of her house with more enthusiasm. “This is a competition.” 

“A competition?” 

“Loser makes me curry.” 

Jamil hid his widening smirk by bending over his gingerbread house. “That’s a poor prize if you ask me. Ace has told me the horror stories involving your food.” 

“Ace has horrible tastes.” Yuu flicked a gumball at him. “You better get to decorating. Our judges are very impatient.” 

“Judges?” 

Yuu didn’t answer, so Jamil shrugged and focused on decorating too. To his surprise, fifteen minutes later, the children crowded around their table. They now wore various styles of knitted caps he had seen many visitors to the festival wearing and had the shrew, judgmental stares only children could accurately convey. Idia also slid up to the table, his weird giggles prompting Yuu to scold him for scaring the children. The children oohed and ahhed over Yuu’s conglomeration of icing, candy, and gingerbread. They barely reacted to the precise lines and carefully placed gumdrops on Jamil’s house. 

Jamil delivered a whole pot of curry to Ramshackle Dorm after they returned to the campus and pretended to be offended while they quipped back and forth about the rigged “competition.”

Alright, still got a few more final episodes left to watch from this season, but it's finally time to start looking ahead to what the next season will bring.

So looking at the previews for the Fall 2024 Anime season, it's seems like a sequel heavy season. Lots of big name shows getting continuations and even a handful of big name remakes. With that being said, there's definitely some interesting looking new shows on the horizon as well.

Continuations:

Shangri-La Frontier S2: I need my 3 dork gamer buddies who will simultaneously be the most toxic motherfuckers to each other while being the most supportive friends possible back already… I need my queen Pencil-kun who fully embodies "gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss" with everything she does and whom is a doomed yuri survivor…

Natsume's Book of Friends S7: My boi with zero self-preservation skills and whose first instinct in every situation is self-destructive self-sacrifice (regardless of how necessary that is for the situation) is finally back! And his fat cat/fox too!

Sengoku Youko S2: While the quality has been more up and down compared to season 1, it's still been a solid adaptation so far.

For Sure:

Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc.: Office lady magical girl show. I'm in. Potential yuri source spotted.

Acro Trip: the second magical girl anime this year about a girl who's obsessed with magical girls but becomes the leader of an evil organization that fights them. Very much interested in it. Potential yuri source spotted.

Dandadan: I have a number of friends who are obsessed with this one so I was already interested in it but even if I didn't, the fact that it's also being animated by fucking Science SARU would have been enough.

Maybe:

The Stories of Girls Who Couldn't Be Magicians: Another magic school anime. Seems like it could be cute.

Demon Lord 2099: Fantasy demon lord awakens to find out his fantasy setting is now a cyberpunk one. Yeah okay, that sound really neat. I'm down for some fantasy x cyberpunk

Good Bye, Dragon Life: fantasy series about dragon that dies and gets reincarnated as some dude. Sounds alright but the main waifu character being a lamia is enough for me to give it a try.

Puniru wa Kawaii Slime: Slime girl anime. Yeah that's probably all it takes to sell me on it.

I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History: I feel like I have to give most villainess isekais a try at this point. So sure, Villainess Isekai where the MC wants to actually be the evil villainess.

One of these years, the spring anime season will not be unfathomably stacked. But 2024 is not that year.

MUST-WATCH

Hibike Euphonium Season 3: And so... our last piece begins.

Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night: An explosion of creativity and joy. The original anime we needed after last season's flops.

Kaiju No. 8: The single most kickass premiere of the season. Production IG does it again, lads.

Tonari no Youkai-san: So here's a show that wasn't on my radar until the first episode walloped me with how good it was. We may have a new ugly-cry masterpiece on our hands here.

RUNNERS UP

Girls Band Cry: The fact this hasn't been officially licensed yet is my roman empire. It's the Love Live Sunshine writer and director on a genuinely fantastic-looking CGI anime, give them respect, god dammit!

Go Go Loser Ranger: Super impressed by the concept and execution alike. Call this one a dark horse for most likely to snatch Anime of the Season when everyone least expects it.

Train to the End of the World: Somehow, this is the most coherent LSD trip I've taken. Not that I've... actually... taken one. Ahem.

Whisper Me a Love Song: Oh thank Christ the adaptation is nowhere near as bad as I was afraid it would be

Wind Breaker: A show that dares to ask the question: what is Tokyo Revengers was... good?

WORTH A LOOK

Bartender: Glass of God: Kinda boring, but also explores some interesting ideas with its focus on bars and bartending. I'll stick with it a little longer at least.

Konosuba Season 3: Somehow these losers keep being just funny enough to keep me watching.

Spice and Wolf: This is probably not gonna live up to the original, but still nice to be reminded of how good this story is.

Yuru Camp Season 3: Oh god what did they do to the character designs

Blue Archive: Not gonna lie, solely watching this for the waifus. We'll see how long that keeps me.

A Condition Called Love: So I maaaaaay have been a bit too harsh on A Sign of Affection last season.

The Snake Princesses Garden

Got myself some surprise art today of a scenario that knowing me, of course I'd be into. My sona with my waifu and her friends in the best drip in the whole Shantae series (Well, best drip if we aren't counting crossover outfits like the Mighty Switch Force outfit heh) wrapped up in vine cocoons in a little garden party gone wrong because, oh let's say… The Water Lilly Siren from Seven Sirens came by and decided to screw with them, mainly Shantae, for payback. And won't be letting them go for a long while… Or ever. Or it's Poison Ivy doing this. Sorry, just finished the Batman Animated series a few weeks ago lol.

And this particular pic actually has a bit of a funny story behind it. Mugenbine, a friend and someone I've frequently commissioned a bunch, had a dream where they were drawing some cocoon based pics and for some reason, my sona was in that dream! Then again, considering I'm not exactly subtle with how into a lot of the stuff I am into, maybe my sona showing up in someone else's dream about a specific kink isn't that surprising lol. It does make me wonder what my impact on other people's lives has been though for this to happen. I mean I'm not doing anything like indirectly bringing Bonzi Buddy back from the dead or anything like Vinsause Joel did but it does still make me think about my impact on other people.

Anyway, they asked if I'd be fine with them drawing this and I said I was more than willing! Double so since it was going to be in the "Space Princess" outfits which I've been meaning to get my sona in anyway. Plus he give them some pig tails to what I imagen is be consistent with how the love of my life's hair is styled when she's wearing this outfit. Let's say… Shampoo from Ranma 1/2 had some magic shampoo that cause his hair to grow out that long. Can you guess what other series I just got done watching two based of me saying that? XD The 2024 Netflix version specifically.

It supposed to be 9 each of like games, TV, movies, etc that you enjoyed for the first time in 2023, but like him I'm just gonna do nine piece of media overall. I'll do my layout of pictures, showcasing each one via the character(s) that were my favorite from each piece of media, and in the order in which I saw them (approximately).

Buddy Daddies, Jan 2023. Super cute original anime. Really enjoyed the QPR thing the MCs had going on. You don't get a lot of found family media like that.

Golden Kamuy, March 2023. I was sick with the flu and binge read the entire series in like a week. LOVED IN. Filled with beefy studs and its a fun ride from start to end!

Psycho Pass, May 2023. I got into cyberpunk recently and gave this a whirl. Really enjoyed the first season, not so much everything that came after tho LOL.

Komi-San, June 2023. I'll be real, I never would have picked this for myself to watch, be me and boys have been watching stuff together and this was a pick from one of them. My first impression was this was just another dumb waifu bait show, but honestly its super cute and super funny. I enjoyed it a lot and can't wait for season 3!

Yakuza Kiwami, June 2023. I started Yakuza Zero, got halfway through and then stopped in 2022, and finally finshed Zero and got through Kiwami last year. I enjoyed it way more than Zero. I really enjoy Kiryu as a character and hope to start the next game soon!

Undead Girl Murder Farce, July 2023. A seasonal anime I picked up and enjoyed greatly. I think its a fun use of public domain characters and the OCs were delightful. I hope we get another season! It was a real sleeper hit for the season I think.

Columbo, August 2023. Yeah, I watched my first episode of Columbo because of a mystery kick UGMF put me on. The first episode I watched naturally was the first episode. I watched another episode on Christmas. I really enjoy this character, I wish I had more free time for this.

Slay the Princess, November 2023. An indie game I've had my eye on for a while because of ManlyBadassHero. The full thing came out and I really enjoyed it! I highly recommend it if you like spooky and romantic things.

Good Will Hunting, December 2023. Its a classic movie, and its been meme'd to death, and yet I've never watched it before now (Its not [my] fault). On my flight to Spain the plane had tablets built in for every seat where we could watch movies and stuff so I took that opportunity to watch a bunch of films I had never seen before (others were Top Gun, John Wick, and Elemental (which I saw in 2024 but otherwise I enjoyed it the most, a morbid curiosity/hate-watch that I loved unironically). I also got halfway through Mission: Impossible but ran out of time.) I'd recommend giving this a go if you haven't seen it. Its a classic for a reason and might give you dark academia peeps a good time LOL.

ANIME SEASON SPRING 2024: FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE ANIME I'LL BE WATCHING

I'm gonna be seeing a few anime this season and since all of the ones I'll be watching are new (nothing that's continuing since I'm not keeping up with any of those lol) I just decided to make these posts about my first impressions of everything I'll be starting. I'll be making another one besides this to keep the post from going on for too long, so without any further a do, let's begin! (Keep in mind I didn't saw any trailers for these, so I'm going 100% blind here)

Shuumatsu train doko e iku

If I'm not mistaken this translates to ''Train to the end of the world'', honestly when I saw this earlier this week I had a really heavy headache so it took me like half of the episode to be on the same page as the anime lol, when I could fully grasp what was going on I ended up kinda liking it. The main squad seems to be interesting and the world feels weird enough to make me come back to it lol, not a bad first episode at all

Bartender: Glass of God

I think I heard this was a remake of an older anime, I haven't seen it though so I'll be going in blind here lol. This feels like it's gonna be a highlight of the season for sure, the animation was spectacular and the chill vibe it has it's extremely good. plus the way they made the drinks makes you wanna actually have one irl lol, I really liked it overall and I'll be surely keeping up with it

Honestly I've never seen 3D anime before so it feels kinda weird that I'll be watching 2 of those this season (I'll talk about the other one on the next post), the only thing I heard about it was that it was like F1 but with waifus, and as a somewhat F1 fan I wanted to see it, the results were... there lol

The racing was nice and all but the rest of it was kind of okay at best, wasn't really interested outside of that, I'll probably continue it for a bit to see if it improves but this first episode wasn't very good imo

ethan (the plot in you) - another naruto tattoo-ee, but also has *multiple* anime related tattoos. bonus point for not ranking AOT or TG as his fave
