It’s a 6 ½-minute song of hope, unity and survival with thundering drums and powerful vocal chants. Performed in the closing credits by the Osage Tribal Singers, “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from the Martin Scorsese film “Killers of the Flower Moon” is the first Indigenous nominee in the best original song category for the Academy Awards, which will take place March 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles and be televised live on ABC.

Despite Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon taking home no awards at last night’s Oscars (can you say snub?), the poignant film still enjoyed plenty of moments during the awards ceremony. Its leading star, Lily Gladstone, was nominated for best actress and delivered one of the best red carpet looks of the night, sporting a custom Gucci gown made in collaboration with Joe Big Mountain, an Indigenous artist renowned for his quillwork.
During the ceremony, composer Scott George and other members of the Osage Nation—a call back to the film, which revolves around the Osage people and how they were historically exploited for oil money—also performed a special healing song titled, “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People).” It was their colorful looks, embedded with special meaning, that served as my personal Oscars highlight.

'Following that drum': Oscar-nominated Osage composer Scott George heads to Academy Awards
Although he already had composed a half-dozen songs, George said crafting the "Killers of the Flower Moon" coda presented a special challenge. Starting in 2000 with a musical homage to one of his dearest mentors and adoptive father, the late Morris Lookout, the singer had primarily created honor songs in tribute to different people, either out of love or by request. And he had mostly composed them in the Ponca language, which is similar to the languages of the Osage, Omaha, Kaw and Quapaw tribes and often used in powwow and dance songs. Still, he and fellow singer Vann Bighorse, then the director of the Osage Nation Language Department, accepted the challenge, each composing an original Osage-language song for the movie. George kept his song simple, but with a message he hoped would help his people heal after the movie's vital but painful revisting of such a tragic time in Osage history. "'Wahzhazhe' is what we call ourselves now … and I'm asking my people to stand up. I want them to stand up with the understanding that God brought us all through that, and we're here today because of that. And we should be thankful," George said, his voice thickening with emotion.

Tad the lost explorer and the spear of blood and tears chapter 7:
@jakkiisthatboy2
Later at night, Liza invited tad and Sara to spend their honeymoon outside
“how about you guys spend the day in our sunset ceremony.” Liza suggested them.
“you have a ceremony?” “do you do it all the time?”
“yeah. it’s like our daily ceremony, come! You’ll like it.”
Liza and tad and Sara noticed a group of Africans and a campfire
“woah. now that’s a honeymoon!”
Liza gives out plates of food for the couple “ try our food, it’s so delicious.” Sara and tad both started to eat African food. “mmm! That’s so much good.” “very delicious.”
Liza also told them “and we have dancing and in order for the sun to set, we sing our tribal song”
“and that is…” “starting right now”
The Drums play, Tribal African singers sing and dance and Sara and tad enjoy the performance until the sunset falls and the full moon appears
Tumblr media
Sara cried out “look! It’s the full moon!”
“Hey Sara…can I tell you something? I’m not going to be the bravest hero anymore.” Sara stoped and looked at him. “What? But why?”
Tad sighs sadly “I thought I was gonna keep it but I’m not actually…and now Wanda wants me to move on.” “You’re gonna be a great fiercest leader.”
“Thanks Sara.” Tad replied with a weak smile; not knowing who to pick

John Cena Walks Out Apparently Naked During 2024 Oscars: See Full List Of Winners
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2024 Oscars took place on March 10 with Jimmy Kimmel as the host of the 96th edition. Movies where not the only thing up for discussions after the award show as movie star and former 16 times Wwe champion John Cena came out completely naked, at least that's what everybody thought at first as the part of his body that was covered was his groin area which he covered with an oversize envelope during his outing to present the award for best costume design. Backstage photos show Cena, 46, standing in an Oscars hallway wearing nothing but a modesty pouch to cover his most personal parts. The coverage was basically a pair of underwear that pocketed Cena both front and back. So, while it looked like the pro wrestler could flash the audience any moment, the Oscars wardrobe team made sure that wouldn't happen.

Original Song: Barbie’s Best Bet
Tumblr media
The nominees are:
“The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot
“I’m Just Ken” from Barbie
“It Never Went Away” from American Symphony
“Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon
“What Was I Made For?” from Barbie
This category upsets me most years, and this year is no exception. Why is “The Fire Inside” here other than to give Diane Warren a 15th Oscar nomination only to not have her win yet again? It doesn’t deserve to be here.
That being said, this year’s shortlist didn’t contain many gems, so it’s rather slim pickings. Notably, none of the new songs from musicals The Color Purple, Wonka, Flora and Son, and Dicks: The Musical made the final five, nor did other hopefuls like Olivia Rodgrigo’s “Can’t Catch Me Now” from the Hunger Games prequel or Lenny Kravtiz’s “Road to Freedom” from Rustin.
Instead, this year was all about Barbie. The prize will either go to “What Was I Made For?” or “I’m Just Ken.” The former, a Billie Eilish/FINNEAS collab is likely to win, especially after picking up the Golden Globe in January and the Grammy for Song of the Year in February. But “I’m Just Ken” has a lot of popular appeal and won the Critics’ Choice award, so it has some strong legs in this race. It may boil down to whether the Academy wants to give the O’Connells their second Oscar in three years. If that’s the case, Billie Eilish will become the youngest ever two-time Oscar winner.
There is an alternate reality where the two songs from Barbie split the vote, paving the way for a dark horse contender like Jon Batiste’s “It Never Went Away” or “Wahzhazhe” from Killers of the Flower Moon.
Who will win: “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie
But look out for: “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie
Who I’d vote for: “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony
If I could add one more: “Quiet Eyes” from Past Lives
