A Persian Miniature-esq styled art of Death and Puss’ final battle on the wishing star. This took me a long time to finish but it was a blast to paint!! Both Puss and Death ended up looking more 3D than what is typical of the very flat and 2D styles of Persian Miniature art, but I feel I managed to capture the energy and ‘flow’ of them well enough!

I adore the use of fairy tales and folklores in the Shrek universe and so I thought the idea of using the Persian Miniature style would have fit along with it, as these artworks were often used for book covers and illustrations. I’ve also wanted to create art with more influence from my culture and background, so I thought it’d be a perfect fit!

This was digitally painted with Krita, did I manage to make it look ‘traditional’ and painterly enough despite the digital medium?

Karma felt… empty. Hollow. The news it… Crushed her soul. She cherished Tatsuki, more than she probably knew and now, she would never be able to tell her. She would never be able to say she loved her like family, and Dark… He wasn’t helping.

“You son of a bitch…”

The words left her like accidental poison, she wasn’t purely mad at him. She understood that whatever happened, it was at Tatsuki’s discretion, that he didn’t want this either. But who was Karma supposed to be mad at?

“You…! You…!”

That’s when it all fell apart, Karma’s tough exterior crumbled like the Tower of Babel. Reaching a point of exertion until it became too much.

She leaned forward, putting her head on ‘Tatsuki’s’ chest as tears began to run down her cheeks. “Bring her back… Please! I didn’t get to say goodbye! She doesn’t know how much I cared I… Fuck, Dark… What did you do?!”

She knew, it was loud and clear. There was no coming back. Selfishly, she blamed him. In the back of her mind, she didn’t, but someone needed that blame to make sense of all of this. Her hands gripped tight on his shoulders, curling that fabric she wore in regretful fists as she pleaded with silence and regret.

The words hit Karma like a truck, her stomach felt someone had stomped on it repeatedly. Yet the grip she had on the woman…

It wasn’t Tatsuki…

“Liar!” First, rejection of the truth as tears already formed in her eyes. But she knew it was the truth. Her hands would place themselves on Tatsuki’s shoulders, almost pleadingly.

“She can’t be! How! Why?!” She held onto the woman tight as if she would flee at any moment. Karma needed answers, she needed to know. She didn’t even get to say goodbye just… just this?? This was all she got??

“I….” Karma was at a loss for words. This was all not fair for her, if it wasn’t for Tatsuki, Dark wouldn’t have come around at all?! Selfish! She was so angry, and he had the audacity to try and act like her? Like nothing happened!? She… needed to know what happened.
