Wade nuzzles his face against his warm stomach, usually he would try to let Peter sleep if it was possible, but today had been a little rough for the merc and he hadn't exactly returned fully intact, but he made sure to clean up a bit before he dared get into bed with Peter, hopes he won't notice and will remain sleepy. He just needed to hear his voice. "Mmmm I'm glad too, missed you today." He murmurs against his belly before tilting his head to look up at his husband, loving the sleepy smile on his face.

Peter is imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. He’s shipped out to an island jail and he’s left there to rot. For ages, the only ones around seem to be the occasional guards bringing him food. But then, he hears a man talking to him through a gap in the walls. A man calling himself Wade. Peter’s not entirely sure if the man is real or just in his head, but Peter starts to inexplicably care for him and desperately longs to see Wade’s face...also Wade sings Crimson and Clover to Peter, eventually.

Wade should have known that the good luck that had been surrounding the two lately, things had been going great, no one was trying to kill the merc or spider and the hero’s villains seemed to be executing plans that were not really thought through properly. Patrols had been going go smoothly lately and of course the merc was impatient to get home, he had a surprise set in store just for Peter. 

But those plans would be cut short.

There’s a few minutes where Wade could have sworn he saw something catch his eye on the building opposite of them but his attention was always pulled away by Peter just like right now when the spider asks if they should take one last run through the city just to make sure, and he agreed so Peter’s mind would be more at rest when they got home. They only make it a few blocks though. Wade is making some wise crack about how he can definitely tell that the webhead isn’t wearing any underwear right now when he hears a sound he had been trained to recognize even before he was Deadpool. 

The cock of a gun.

 “Spidey get down!” The merc is shoving Peter towards what he thought would be the most cover in the alleyway, his left hand moves to grip the handle of his left pistol but before he can even take aim in the direction he heard the sound come from a loud gunshot goes off and the merc feel pain ripping through his chest and he goes to take a breath but finds out he can’t get a full one. Another shot goes off and the merc is hit again almost in the same place. As he falls to the ground though he get’s two shots off and they count, he hears the gun being dropped and a string of curses and figures he nailed a hit to the assholes hand. Ha, served him right. He falls to his knees and this time when he takes a breath he doesn’t feel the fresh relief of being able to take a breath, right hand moving to feel for the wound. 

Fuck, he can’t feel his chest and he slumps to the side and the last thing he hears before things go black is Peter’s voice screaming his name.

The heavy buzzing jolting through his body when he wakes up let’s him know where he is as soon as it fade because he as no pain, not even the stuff he lived with everyday. He let’s out a soft sigh and a mumbled fuck which results in the sound of familiar laughter.

“I thought we agreed you’d stop meeting me like this.” Wade opens his eyes and turns his head and he can’t help the sad smile that appears on his lips. “Vanessa.” He greets in a soft voice as he watches her set her book down, curled up on the couch in their old apartment like she had been expecting him to show up. “Hey there Stud.” She hums softly and beckons him to come closer. “You’re going to be here a while, might a well take a seat and let me scold you properly.” Vanessa teases lightly and Wade can’t help the small chuckle that escapes him as he moved over to flop on the couch beside her and she moves to settled against him, something he feels guilty for now. 

They talk about Peter, she tells him she better not mess up with him or she’ll have to beat him up next time he visited her because she likes Peter and knows how much of an idiot Wade can be. “Don’t run from him okay? Don’t be stupid.” She pokes his chest and he laughs. His time here is never long but this time it feel like an eternity, though he says that about every-time this happens and he has to be away from Peter who he hope isn’t freaking out. He can feel the warm tug start to pull at him and he gives Vanessa a final smile before he’s finding himself waking up with a bit of a harsh gasp as his newly formed lungs take their first breath.

It takes a few moments for his sense to come back and his brain to feel like it’s not dead to realize Peter is leaning over him, the mercs head in his lap. “Mmm hey Petey-pie.” His voice rough as his vocal chords fight to work properly and he reaches up to cup his boyfriends face, lips parting to say something else before Peter’s lips are suddenly on his and Wade is sure this is the only way he ever wants his breath to be taken away again.

“I’m okay baby, I’m okay.”

Wade here’s a ‘thunk’ coming from the living room and he’s up from the bed, pistol in hand as he silently heads to the bedroom door, he doesn’t know who the fuck thought it would be smart to break into this apartment complex but they sure as hell broke into the wrong one. He waits a few moments before quickly stepping out into the living room, gun aimed for whoever was snooping around the place. The merc nearly drops the gun in shock as his blood runs cold at the sight he’s greeted with. “Petey!” He tugs his pistol into the waistband of his jeans and rushes over to his boyfriend who is sprawled out on the floor of the living room a few feet from one of the windows he didn’t hear open.

“No, no, no.” He says to himself as he sees the blood coating the floor, seeping into the rug as Peter lays there motionless, mask not even tugged off. Wade quickly rolls the hero onto his back in search of the source of the blood. God Petey why do you bleed so much. He thinks to himself as he tries to not panic. “Petey, Peter you better fucking be awake and talk to me- Peter!” He doesn’t take his eyes off his body as he finished rolling him over and if he wasn’t so used to gore he would have puked right then and there at how big the gash was going across Peter’s torso. “Oh Jesus Christ, Petey. What did you get yourself into?” He hadn’t expected the hero home for hours, a patrol was never over this early….something obviously had gone wrong.

This was a GIF I decided to do for Lafaiette on Tumblr for her Chapter 11 in the Well fanfic. I did an image in the same chapter of Peter helping Wade into the bathroom found here: Get Well Soon Wade. This was a moment I found really moving in her work and I really had fun creating the distressed, disturbed, and worried expressions of Wade and Peter. It almost acts as a moving comic with each frame acting as a panel in a comic strip.  This took me quite a while to finish because I was having issues with the shading, compression of the GIF file, and I even redrew the city background by hand. I had no references for the background other than trying to figure out how New York rooftops look like. (I drew this before Lafaiette's 12th chapter that talks about how his apartment is in Queens. I am not sure if some apartments are near those types of buildings that seem tall and pointy or have long, rectangular windows so it may seem much fancier than Peter could possibly afford but I really wanted a long window to help show the location of where they are.) I had fun doing this despite the complications and aggravations. I wish I could create better quality GIFs but even so, I like how this came out. <3 Enjoy!

“Shh, Wade, no! It’s me, Peter!” the young man repeats and through his tears he can see the fury come back in Wade’s eyes. His fingers claws at his spandex, his face is contorted into a growl.

“Don’t fucking touch Peter!” he howls, mistaking the hero for a scientist a second time. “Don’t you fucking dare!”

“No! No!” Peter wants his voice to be clearer, to reach Wade among his attack and finally wake him from this living nightmare, but he is crying so hard he can barely speak. “W-Wade, I am Peter! Look at me, don’t you recognize me?”
