super mario wonder was literally just new super mario bros on the switch with a new cutesy art style and nintendo fans shit their pants over it. the best i can say about it is that it’s like fun on a base level and makes a decent game to play mindlessly while listening to podcasts, but it is in no way special. i didn’t feel any interesting emotions playing mario wonder, it was all just mild enjoyment throughout its whole run time. and i’m sorry, that just doesn’t feel worth 60 dollars to me. there has to be something more.

Looking back at this, I'm reminded how Fitzwilliam and Darcy make for a brilliant crossover with Ivan Vorpatril and Miles Vorkosigan. Even more so than Lois McMaster Bujold did with A Civil Campaign, where Ivan does deliberately stick a spanner into Miles' romantic endeavours to mess with him.

'Watching you become the Little Admiral at him was worth the price of admission, though.' 'What?' 'Wasn't it on purpose? You're acting just like you do when you play Admiral Naismith, except without the Betan accent. Full tilt forward, no inhibitions, innocent bystanders scramble for their lives. I suppose you'll say terror is good for me, clears the arteries or something.' 'Do you consider yourself an innocent bystander?' 'God knows I try to be.'

Here's a concept;

Colonel Fitzwilliam deliberately tried to turn Elizabeth against Darcy by telling her about the latter breaking up Jane and Bingley. He's likely heard about the Bennet sisters and Bingley's infatuation with Jane, and he says three times that 'Darcy didn't outright say it was Bingley, I only thought it sounded like the sort of scrape that Bingley would get into' to ignite Elizabeth's suspicions while taking the burden off himself.

And why? Because he's envious towards his cousin.

He literally says just before this revelation that he's at Darcy's utter disposal and can only leave Kent when he pleases; and that, as the second son of an earl, he's dependant on the goodwill of his richer relatives and he can't marry where he chooses, so even though he likes Elizabeth very much he could never propose to her. Darcy, with his income of ten thousand a year, doesn't have that set back; he can marry whomever he likes. Fitzwilliam probably realised that Darcy also fancies Elizabeth, and in a moment of spite and determination that for once his privileged cousin won't get what he wants, Fitzwilliam decides 'Well, if I can't marry her, mate, you can't either!'
