A ramble about why I adore Blackhat's intro

btw do take this lightly because im in no way like professionally educated in how an episode should be or character exploration, this is just all my opinion [also forgive me for how messy it is]

Blackhat's intro is just my absolute favourite. Speaking on the first episode and not the short pilots that aired before.

so even with the initial dream sequence flug has, it has him show up immediately a large shadowy figure and the sky goes red around him. It's a show of power immediately but in the dream sequence, he praises flug and then flug's alarm wakes him up, interrupting the dream. So it's almost like a preview or a peek at what he might be like.

Then we meet the real Blackhat.

just to take a step back real quick, we see flug going through the routine, gathering the others to prepare for their day. then a camera points to him and suddenly his bones are breaking, he's being folded into a ball until he disappears by some unknown force. he's placed a few feet in front of Blackhat's desk and immediately forced into a bowing position. The shadow of his silhouette looms over and his theme song ques.

I just ADORE the immediate show of power he has. With the song change and the immediate surrounding area just shades of red and he's facing away, showing such a nonchalant demeanour.

He's not show boating or flaunting because he doesn't have to.

He's powerful, he's dangerous and breaking flug's bones just to get him into the office shows that he also has little care even for those who work so closely to him.

He's horrifying and it's only thirteen seconds, he hasn't even said a word.

then when he does his voice moves from double layered to a single tone, his skin moves inside out while his shadow speaks and its all while simply staring blankly.

its showing off a handful of his abilities and its only a fraction of what he's capable of I just think it's such an amazing way to show of a powerful character when first meeting them, you immediately understand that he is in charge and it's for a reason that's shown clearly

i could go on about why i adore the first episode in its entirety, but i figure i'd keep it shorter by just talking about Black Hat's intro

Been playing L.A Noire bc I found out Peter Blomquist was in it and I will say I am having a blast

Like, reading ppls faces and collecting evidence and all that. I LOVE mystery solvin stuff like that sm

He might be the first platonic f/o I've had in a while and that makes me so happy

Now this is just something i've been thinkin about but I feel like there wasn't enough exploration into Philip's fear of witches/demons?

It's been a while since I've watched the show in it's entirety so maybe I'm wrong but I feel like we saw more of his anger and hatred than we did fear

I know when he's Emperor, he probably doesn't have to fear them because he's more powerful and he's got way stronger magic than them all but even in elsewhere elsewhen

All we really saw was anger and if Philip grew up in a puritan village that participated in witch hunting then he was definitely raised to have the fear of the devil in him, like even if he's an adult. Like can you imagine being told of a monster under your bed as a kid for years and years and then one day you finally see it. Adult or not, you'd probably be terrified.

Especially with such strong belief, seeing it would confirm everything you've been told for years

It's just a nitpick and don't get me wrong, I love Philip in the series he was amazing [I'll leave out my opinions on his ending] but I felt like there was lack of showing his fear

i know as a villain, he's meant to be intimidating but him having fear would not stop him from being that, in fact it could even amplify it

Maybe it's just me but I would have liked to see more fear from him, feels like it would make sense for his character

more character rambling

I just rewatched the VVV episode and just learning about how they like all mesh with each other

flug and demencia have their rivalry while they're both doing their best to serve black hat but they both have different opinions on what would serve him better

flug feels that his tech and smarts is more than enough to get the job done while demencia believes in her strength and power to be what black hat needs

but in the end, he hired the both of them because he knows that they are both useful to him depending on what he needs and he likely knows how powerful they are when they work together

one of the orientation video rules is to form a team of villains if you need more strength against heroes and while he isn't following the rule for the sake of strength cause clearly he can kill whoever he'd like to whenever he wants, he knows that if he's employing people, he needs a team that can work together to get the job done to enact out his will.

Of course he still messes with them, especially flug because he knows no matter what he does with demencia she's going to love him so he teases her by flirting a bit instead, but when it comes to flug especially in the VVV and the Satellite Mysteries episode, he likes his suffering bc it's funny to him

which is extremely in character for him, of course

I just love seeing them all in one scene because the dynamics flow so well and for all of them to be villains and still likeable is like perfect. There are a lot of likeable villains from several series but it also puts you in the position of rooting for them

You want to see them succeed over the heroes, that could also be because it's more so in their POV but they don't hide the evil things they do. All of them, the exception being 5.0.5 but yknow he helps out where he can because maybe he doesn't want to do extreme evil but he likes making his family happy and that's what they are to him, family

It's just like a great found family dynamic despite Black Hat likely killing anyone who would suggest such a thing

To a small extent, I think he's attached to them. Even in VVV, he clearly doesn't want to lose Demencia [likely because she's extremely powerful and he also wanted to see Flug get his ass kicked] though we didn't see what he might think about Flug being gone in the Heed episode but Black Hat does know things about him

Now he could know for the sake of wanting to keep his employees in check and making sure they wouldn't try to betray him BUT he could honestly do that regardless with how intimidating he is. They have slight favouritism too since they likely can get away with small things that he would have immediately killed anyone else for doing

The way I'd love to go off about the subtly of black hat expressing emotions other than malicious ones
