Your fanfics about the Shin/Ami Mizuno couple are interesting. How did the couple and the two one-shots come about?

So way, way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day, back in the days of Year of Our Lady Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Nine - that is to say, before I even knew what a ship was aside from the big things the Navy sailed out of Norfolk - I was a Shin/Usagi shipper, or rather Cye/Serena. And to an extent, I still am. But, to answer the question, I was turned in around 2001 thanks to the acquisition of the internet and reading an old crossover fic, sadly defunct and left hanging, by the title of "Ronin Warriors to Arms, or Sailor Scout Power", by SAW458, and her handling of Shin and Ami did a lot to convince me of the pairing's potential. And after a while, it just took over as the default. putting aside their elemental affinity, they just feel like they have a great chemistry, kind but isolated (listen to their image songs!) with an appreciation for art, and of course the classic Absent Father trope (his having passed, hers having divorced her mom). There's... more, but truth is that I simply lack the language to articulate properly beyond "I just think they're cute together". Plus the idea of a casanova like him (see: the cassette dramas) and a wallflower like her winding up together is eternally enjoyable.

Which brings us to the one-shots. One was inspired by a piece of art a friend did based on a I think Sorrowscopes tweet that I just had to run with; the other, just because I wanted to let them have a moment together. In both cases, I wanted to show them long after the adventures have wound down, after they've matured and grown together and have no hangups about being intimate together.

Now, let's talk about Malex, please

I have some theories of what we might get from the Malex plot.

I'm gonna share the ones I really feel strongly about (or that I really, really want to happen HEHEHEHE)

(Obvs, I might be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off, but it's nice to share and see how it goes).

The wedding ❤️❤️❤️

I'm a firm believer the wedding will happen.

There's a lot of evidence to that overall, but I think, above all, the writers knowing they might not have a season 5, would want to send Malex off as a married couple.

Their whole theme throughout the show has been home, belonging, hope. It fits! The fact that Michael will have to find and get Alex back probably will make him not want to waste any more time.

And say whatever you wanna say about RNM writing, but if we take a look on the seasons, Malex has a very well done (but not free from mistakes) journey as a story arc.

It's not as tragic, terrible writing as some people here make it out to be.

The parallels, the chemistry, the soundtrack, everything with them has details and it connects to itself.

It might not have always been perfect, but it definitely is the love story of the show.

I really think "cosmic" will stop to be a metaphor and revealed itself as literal.

I think Malex is connected by something. I think Alex might not be just human.

I think we will get something sort of a soulmate explanation.

Alex will die ☠️💀☠️💀

I know this sounds dramatic, but I think Alex will die in front of Michael. Maybe when Michael finds him. Maybe he dies right before Michael finds him.

Can you feel the angst?

I just think that Maria losing her ability to see the future and Max not being able to use his power full speed because he might get overcharged crazy with it sounds like a lot of blocks in the way to bring Alex back safe and sound.

The Maria and Max factor also can be obstacles if they get Alex back and he's like almost dead.

So they'll have to put him in a pod until they figure out a way to heal him.

But, I'm feeling dramatic, so my best bet is that he's gonna die.

I don't think we'll have a handprint ❌🤚🏻❌

If Alex dies, I don't think we'll get a handprint.

BUT WAIT. HEAR ME OUT!

I think the handprint thing is very Echo and I don't know, maybe the writers will not want to parallel that particular thing.

Although they parallel Echo and Malex quite often lately.

That doesn't mean Michael won't heal Alex.

I think if Alex dies, Michael finally will touch his ability to heal.

I mean, he's Jones son, the healing power must be there somewhere.

I think Michael's healing power will be displayed in a different way.

Not necessarily with a handprint.

Maybe a surge of power, lightning in the sky, bright lights surrounding them. I don't know. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

But something that's bigger than a handprint because season 3 hinted that Michael is more powerful than Jones without training.

Alex death would be triggering enough to Michael unlock all of his powers.

On Hermits and Hels Versions

Ever since Welsknight made the first episode with Helsknight, tumblr went wild making Hels versions of the other Hermits, and now it’s time for me to share my various Hels ideas.

Quick content warning for Biblically Accurate Angels, body horror, psychological horror, and general horror.

I’m starting out by saying I basically consider Hels creatures demons, and if I remember right, Wels partially based Hels off demons.  If I remember right Wels also stated Hels was just as strong as him, and has all the same skills and abilities(might wanna keep this in mind for later) barring one thing I’m adding.  I rewatched the first Helsknight video, and if I’m interpreting the data right, Hels existed in some form before he showed up as both the darkness and negative emotions buried deep inside Welsknight and in another dimension Wels may have never been before.  He just needed a flesh body to come and interact with the world Wels exists in.  

Before we continue, I wanna say my original plans were to send this all to @hermitcraftheadcanons, but it got waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay long, and I wanted to send some to @cooler-cactus-block back when they were asking for Hels Mumbos, but again it was long.  I’m just writing this all down on my blog and yeeting it out into Hermitblr and atting them in case they wanna see this.

Here’s where I play around with Hels Lore cause it’s fun.

Let’s start with how Hels beings were created.  You see, when angels fell after their rebellion, parts split off of the fallen angels, and those parts became demons.  The main body of the angel, if they survive the fall, becomes a devil that can loosely control the demons, and I say loosely cause the best way to control those demons is to promise them chaos and violence.  If the angel doesn’t survive to devilhood, the body breaks up on impact become general fiends who just run around doing their own evil deeds.  And there is a fourth being born from the fall of these angels, the Hels, named after the dimension they were born in.  Hels are formed from the burning dust of the fallen angels as they split apart, and if you go off the Christian interpretation 1/3 of the angels fell there’d be a lot of dust, before eventually coalescing into the malevolent beings we know and love.  They stay as vague evil energy feeding off the negative emotions of players before one of them eventually jumps to the real world to torment the player they latched to for more negative emotions to feed off.  

Some more random facts.  The Hels are the only ones named after the dimension cause they’re the only fiends who don’t have any memory of formally being an angel, just a lot of evil energies; to them, Hels has always been their home, and they can’t think of anywhere else.  Funnily enough, Helsknight wasn’t the only one trying to latch onto Welsknight.  A few more wanted him, but after Hels latched, the others couldn’t, even after Helsknight dies.  Also, all but the devils are afraid of angels(and I don’t just mean the feathery winged pop culture ones, I’m also talking the ones who have to say “Be Not Afraid” before showing up.)  Final random fact, all the fiends of Hels, just like the angels they descend from, and eldritch beings are all immune to fae magic, and fae can’t have Hels counterparts.  Hels beings usually attack fae just like they would attack humans.

Now that we know how Hels beings were created, let’s talk about some Hels counterparts.  Warning before I go in, a lot of them may not have Hels counterparts, weather it be because they can’t, the counterparts died or if we don’t have any other clue.  Also, fair warning, I don’t consider characters like Worm Man, Zeddeath, Grim Dog, Ren Bob, or others Hels versions.  They’re more their own thing to me.

Grian, Hypno, Iskall, Keralis, Ren, Beef, xB- Hels Dragon, a dragon worse more brick shittingly terrifying than the normal ender dragon, was out hunting one day and found all of their Hels at a portal ready to jump out and bond with their Hermit, and while they were all distracted, it snuck up on them and ate them.  A lot of them did die, but a few snuck into the dragon's tissues alive, but unable to leave.  They float around in the dragon's body, and occasionally taking over the mind for short periods of time before the dragon takes back control.  There are theories that if a Hels binds with their Hermit while inside the dragon's body, they'll fully take over, kicking the dragon out of the mind and stealing its powers, or if all of them are in the mind and try to bind with their Hermits, they'll all argue instead of getting anything done, cause most of the Hels don't like each other, and the dragon will be stuck listening to them all argue and won't be able to do literally anything.  Like yes, let’s become flesh in already existing flesh.

Gem and Stress- Due to them being Fae, they don’t have Hels counterparts.

Cub and Scar- They also don’t have Hels counterparts, but they do have Allay counterparts, BadTimesWithScar and CardinalHater531.  Funnily enough, both have spent time in Hels, but that’s because Allay were captured by Hels fiends as labor and food, somehow having a shorter life expectancy and worse quality of life than the average Vex.

DocM77- He does have a counterpart, DarkM77 I know I’m so good at names/s.  He’s a buff cyborg creeper just like Doc, but he stands at 7′7 [insert Doc’s compensation joke from Season 6 here]  and has Warden horns.  He loves fucking up other people’s redstone especially if he can make it lethal.  

Bdubs- Baddouble001, or Baddubs for short I know,  I know, I can’t name characters is somehow shorter than Bdubs, but he gets just as angry if you bring it up.  He can also manipulate plants(both overworld and nether), and really likes binding people in vines and slapping with a cactus crop for calling him short.  He’s done it to Scar a few times.

Joe Hills- No one’s sure what Joe Hells is actually like.  Some say Herobrine is Joe’s Hels.  Some say Joe is Herobrine’s Hels.

TFC- Somehow, TFC outlived all the Hels that could have latched onto him.  That is until a new one is born 20 years ago.  Aluminum, or Alu, is the first new potential TFC Hels, and he became flesh and is now running around covering things in aluminium foil cause he has no idea what to do.

Mumbo- This is a weird section cause I already made an Evil Mumbo, but after some thinking, he may or may not fit with being a Hels based off what info I put in this post.

Xisuma, and Evil Xisuma- No one’s sure weather EX is a ture Hels, and this was further complicated by Evil Evil Xisuma sending Evil Xisuma a letter saying “Hey stupid, I’m your Hels.”

False- She has True, but True is just False’s cousin, but neither of them can remember from which side.  False does sometimes borror her clothes and go into Hels Kitchen calling herself AllSymetry just to get some fire food and beat fiends at arm wrestling.  Sometimes Hels will taunt her about seeing her Hels at the kitchen, but sometimes, he talks about seeing her on days she didn’t go.

Etho- Hermits sometimes see his Hels as a blur rushing out of the corner of their eyes.  Sometimes some of someone’s stuff goes missing.  Sometimes it turns up in another Hermit’s base.  Sometimes Hermits fall victim to traps.  The Hermits notice this and blame the currently nameless Hels Etho.

Zedaph- If a Hels Zedaph ever pops up, fucking run.

Impulse- Impy actually comes from Hels, but isn’t considered a Hels, Fiend, Demon, or Devil.  You see, when the angels fell, a lot of their good and righteous nature burnt off and scattered into the atmosphere.  It floated around for a while convincing fiends to do some good deeds as it went.  While floating, it found places where positive vibes like joy and friendship slipped into Hels.  Eventually, the goodness found a large place that leaked a lot of good vibes, and it settled down and formed into Impulse.  Devils, Demons, and Fiends often attack on sight cause they sometime see the former angle they were in him, and Hels attack him cause they just hate how sweet and good he is.

Tango- Out of Team ZIT, Tango’s Hels was the only one to show up.  Salsa Dance, is a guy dressed in blue with the only spicy part of him being the fact he’s so intensely jealous of the fact Tango has both the ability to make good games and friends to play games with he wants to kidnap a few of them to play some of his shotty games and get some praise, and no, he will not take constructive criticism, Impulse; the game is perfectly fine; you just have too high standards cause you play with Tango.

Pearl- PearlescentMoon’s Hels counterpart PearlescentSun is a being who gains strength from daylight or bright light.  She’s the kind of monster who you try to defeat by turning on the lights only to realize you just made her more powerful.  She also doesn’t turn outsides upside down, only insides.

Jevin- Jevin is a weird case cause he does have Hels trying to latch to him, but none of the have so far do to him being a slime.  A few tried learning through magma cubes, but a Hels, even in energy form, can’t possess any nether mob.  A few were gonna try overworld slimes, but the EX event happened before they could, and now they have no idea what to do, but are pissed at EX.

Zombie Cleo- Cleo terrifies all the fiends of Hels on her own.  No demon loves destruction and carnage enough to summon Hels Cleo.  No random fiend thinks it’s worth it to summon her.  No devil is arrogant enough to control a Hels Cleo.  No Hels thinks she’d even be one of them.

And yet, a Hels that could become Hels Cleo is out there...waiting.

Different anon. I run a Bowie blog on the side but I stopped interacting with most of the fandom because they get wildly inappropriate and it makes me uncomfortable. Like, they treat David and other musicians like they're fictional characters instead of real people, they've sent disgusting sex related messages to official twitter accounts, and are just super disrespectful.

Lol I'll be real with you. If you go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in my blog, like years and years ago, you might find that I was like those fans. I’ve simmered down over the years, but back when I was fresh-faced and bushy-tailed, my raging hormones were out of control. But! I knew where to keep that shit, ya know? I kept it all on my tumblr and private conversations with like-minded horn-dogs, and I kept that filth far away from official accounts. I never sent anything to official accounts. I would be too mortified to send anything to Bowie’s official accounts, omg. Fandom fan activity stays within the fandom community, never to be seen by official eyes. If official people happened upon my creepy ass posts, well...that wasn’t meant for them to see and I’m so sorry lol. Maybe I should go back and delete stuff, but I’m too lazy. That was so many years ago and buried underneath so much stuff. I didn’t know there are still fans that are horny for Bowie and are totally open about it. I guess he brings that out of people lol, the man is gorgeous. But hey, it’s okay to find him attractive and go nuts on your own personal blogs and stuff. Just don’t...send it to official accounts (and leave his family alone, of course).

One of THE very first things I want to share for this “Throwback month” of sorts is a few pages from one of my very first comics: Truth or Dare!

I made it WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in my preteens, right in the middle of self-insert heaven. The concept was that me, my friend, and our fave husbandos characters were “dared” to go through Double Dash’s Bowser Castle racetrack on foot.

It was full of “LOLZ RANDOM” and Out of Character humor, but it was one of my first forays into actual comic making so it has a very special place in my heart! I remember working on it at lunch hours at school :> In the end it was only 31 pages, and my friend and I had decided to switch out Ed & Ichigo for other characters...but I never finished xD

I hope you enjoy seeing this, and that seeing how far I’ve improved might be inspirational! I know it is for me!

Ghost-Spider #1 Thoughts

Since I enjoyed the Spider-Geddon aftermath issue of Ghost Spider and because seeing Spider-Gwen meet Earth 616 Jackal intrigued me I decided to check out the current story arc and...um...oh dear...

So confession. I dropped Spider-Gwen’s title after reading the issue that debuted Earth 65 Kraven. The moment I saw him with his stupid Hipster look I was like ‘Noooooooooooooooope’.

So consequently I missed out on such gems as Gwenom and other great ideas I’m sure were inspired by variant covers.

What I’m saying is I’m out of the loop and therefore any analysis I might be able to provide isn’t going to be that great because I’m literally lacking in information.

That all being said I also maintain what Stan the Man said once upon a time, every comic is someone’s first. That goes for issue #1s moreso than others!

So we come to this title.

Was it good.

From where I’m standing...no not really.

Okay so first of all the art is lovely, it really is. And the scene where George’s surprise party goes very wrong was really well paced out by the art, which sold the comedy very well!

As for other positives...um...the story remembered to address the fact that Gwen can’t just show up to Earth 616 and go to school there. The idea that Iron Man established a scholarship for extra terrestrial and extra terrestrial people fixes that problem...but it opens up a boatload of questions.

Is Gwen and fellow students from other dimensions like her stealing student places from people based in Earth 616?

Wouldn’t education standards vary wildly across dimensions? After all a lot of times when it comes to education it’s less how well you did as much as where you went (or sadly who you know). I mean I know people from my university, which was no slouch, who got great grades but were passed over for jobs by people with less impressive grades but from more prestigious universities. Is a grade from Oxford or Yale on Earth 616 worth as much on the job market as it is on Earth 65? It may well be that on Earth 65 (which we know has a different history to Earth 616 and isn’t necessarily a reflection of OUR real life world) ESU is regarded as a lesser school that’s easy to pass.

Wouldn’t the subject of allowing aliens and other dimensional people to attend schools on Earth 616 open up a HUGE political debate regarding immigration? Provided it was known to the government of course and it Tony was hiding it from them then isn’t that super unethical?

What about the potential for disease and illnesses that could be brought over from a dimension with a starkly different germ history to Earth 616?

Do Gwen’s fellow students get to know she’s a foreign student from another dimension?

Are such things REALLy so common place blasé in the 616 universe? Surely the norm is to acknowledge that aliens and such things exist but to suspend disbelief to allow life to go on as normal, but if people are just actually reacting realistically to something like this doesn’t that break down the verisimilitude of the Marvel universe?

If Gwen is attending school with the legal name of Gwen Stacy and LOOKS like Gwen Stacy wouldn’t that raise a shitton of problems for her because she looks JUST LIKE A DEAD WOMAN! I mean Gwen’s clone at least changed her name. Is ESU really not going to have records of that time one of their students was murdered on a bridge? Gwen’s death was public knowledge the Green Goblin boasted about it on TV and Ben Urich wrote a book on it!

All of which is academic because even if Gwen earns a college education on Earth 616...how is that going to help her in the long run?

Think about it, she might be taught skills and stuff that she could then use in any jobs she adopts. But having skills is sadly only half the battle when it comes to getting a job. Of equal or possibly greater value is having the PROOF you have those skills. Someone can be a brilliant self-taught nuclear engineer. But if they’ve not got a college diploma to prove it they aren’t getting a job.

How is a diploma from Earth 616 going to mean anything besides a piece of paper on Earth 65. There wouldn’t be any records proving she attended ESU and even if Gwen tells them that she earned the degree in another universe they’d only have her word for it, faking a piece of paper saying you graduated is easy! Even if they did believe her no one in authority on Earth 65 has the power to verify how legit or qualified Earth 616’s ESU is. It could be an online course for all they know. Not to mention do the residents of Earth 65 even know that travel between parallel universes is even a thing?

I’m sure a lot of 616 citizens are probably vaguely aware of that but on Earth 65 that isn’t necessarily the case because they’ve not had a long history of Skrull invasions!

It’s all just so contrived to just have Gwen situated in Earth 616 because that would boost her sales in theory.

Creatively it causes problems too.

Let’s put aside how it means subplots and supporting characters are going to have to be divided between two universes where their collision will be difficult if not impossible.

Let’s even put aside how being a public figure in Earth 65 whilst she spends a huge chunk of her time in another universe entirely puts Gwen’s Dad (who’s human and at risk from heart attacks) at HUGE risk!

What is really gained creatively from having Gwen on Earth 616 where she can interact with like 616 Peter, 616 MJ, 616 Miles?

Fanservice. Sure. I mean that’s why I’m reading this.

But creatively speaking it is just...impoverishing for everyone.

Let’s first look at this from the POV of the 616 residents.

Miles gets to potentially date Gwen more easily now. This is a bad thing. Miles is already too similar to Peter and whilst this dynamic might work in the animated movies (which are themselves an AU to the comics) in an ongoing Miles story having him literally dating a version of Spider-Man’s girlfriend is reductive. Not to mention it might be a bad idea to have him date a fellow super in general, it undermines his normalcy and relative normalcy is important to Spider-Heroes. In this case it wouldn’t even be dating a hero, it’d be dating a hero from another universe!

For Mary Jane it also undermines her normalcy too as well as undermining the weight of Gwen’s death in her life because a version of Gwen, is alive and well and capable of regularly interacting with her.

The same holds true but a thousand times more for Peter. Unless you quarantine off this series as ‘Spider-Gwen continuity’ any time Peter feels mournful over Gwen now is going to feel rather hollow because you know he is regularly chatty with Spider-Gwen and literally helped her get into the same school as him!

That’s another bad thing about the comic by the way. Isn’t being on record as helping an other dimensional version of his dead girlfriend going to seriously put the spotlight on Peter in a big way? Does he even have the clout to help her get into ESU given how he’s only recently returned there himself? And what was with the dialogue implying he works there? When did that happen? He attends school there but he’s not got a job there last I checked??????????????

Also...isn’t Peter like seriously waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too chill about Gwen? Remember how in the 1970s Clone Saga (the story this comic actively references) he was seriously shaken up when Gwen’s clone appeared? Remember when he had varying degrees of similar reactions EVERY time one of Gwen’s clones showed up, including when Spider-Gwen was impersonating one of Gwen’s clones in Clone Conspiracy?

Now he’s face to face with a living breathing version of Gwen Stacy who is arguably more real than any of those clones and he’s all smiles and meh. He doesn’t even think about it in the other titles! Like dude if Spider-Man came face to face with a living Gwen Stacy that would dwell on his mind somewhat!

Now let’s consider this from Gwen’s POV.

What does she gain from interacting on Earth 616?

Well she gets to be comparatively more normal than on her own Earth where she is a celebrity. Okay cool...couldn’t you just get to the same ends by mindwiping her identity from people on Earth 65? I mean we already did this with Peter Parker why is the integrity of Spider-Gwen’s narrative more precious?

She gets to interact with Earth 616 Jackal...which is really more interesting from the Jackal’s POV because does she even know who the hell Miles Warren is? It doesn’t seem like it based on this issue. I mean that’s why I’m reading this arc right now. Because seeing Miles Warren react to a living Gwen Stacy is an interesting idea to me. But why move the main character in this direction to do something interesting with a villain. Not even one of her own villains either, another character’s villain. This basically applies to every villain and supporting character Gwen could bump into on Earth 616. Norman, Harry, Jameson, Curt Connors, Jill Stacy, etc.

The most interesting characters she could interact with from her POV are Peter and Mary Jane. But with Mary Jane you have to think the mileage doesn’t go much further than “Wow you are much nicer than my Earth’s Em Jay (who’s name has apparently changed now) who’s a total diva b-word!”.

And with Peter...well this issue already basically dispelled the drama from that. She regards him as a older friend but not a peer, not her Peter and someone she can chat to and fight crime with sometimes. That’s it really. There was more emotion and drama derived from that Conway backup story where she met the Goblin Peter back in Spider-Verse.

Meanwhile her own supporting cast and villains are very much left in the lurch. I mean the Man-Wolf is getting released on her Earth and I’m just like ‘so what she’s not even there right now!”

And like Peter and Miles this torpedoes the idea of Gwen being relatively normal. Juggling normal life problems with superhero problems flies out of the window when you are commuting between dimensions, one of which you are famously dead and the other of which you are just famous.

What else is there to talk about.

So Gwen’s costume is apparently composed of spiders but is also a symbiote...um...weird. in fairness maybe that’s addressed in older issues.

What’s weirder was the random giant rat...what was that even about?????????????

The only other positive I have to say about this issue was that at least it wasn’t as pretentious and not as obnoxiously zany as Latour’s run.

Finally...what was up with that opening page saying Gwen got her powers a few months ago??????

You telling me Gwen got her powers in high school, became famous as Spider-Gwen, Peter got crazy and turned himself into a lizard before dying, Gwen changed her world view, a campaign to capture her happened, she went to college, THEN Spider-Verse happened, THEN everything in volume 1 happened, THEN everything in Secret Wars happened, THEN everything in volume 2, Clone Conspiracy and Web Warriors happened (including the Spider Women crossover), then everything in volume 3 including Spider-Geddon happened and all this shit happened...in under a year?

What the fuck was everyone on speed or something that’s ridiculous!

I’m gonna pick up the next few issues but if they’re more of the same I hope the Jackal story wraps up sooner rather than later.

what i DO miss about twitter rping back in the day was how instantaneous it could be. as a perfectionist when it comes to my writing, it was a fun escape from that thanks to character limits and how quicky you could reply. and the dm's could be more in depth and plotted ... idk, i do miss that. but every time i even peek at a twitter rp it all seems like meme culture and less about detailing relationships and friendships like it used to be. saAAAD this was an old people memory with Emery who's been rping for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long !

NGL I feel a bit of an outlier in fandom in liking both dick and damian's batman and robin partnership and bruce and damian's XD (and seeing plus sides and negative sides for both)

I feel like fandom does waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overplay Dick's like. 'soft' traits to the extent that... if Dick acted like fandom dick does, Damian really wouldn't have put up with him and would've been weirded out and not want to hang around him, because he'd feel like Dick is trying to replace his parents. I think a lot of the reason people like Dick and Damian's batman and robin is because they start like. coworkers but 1 is tiny, you know, not very emotional, and later we see a deeper connection, so the dynamic comes across as very organic. But lots of times people just want to get to the emotional connection straight from the get-go without putting the work in beforehand, which is why fandom dick and damian comes across as so bland.

A lot of the time, Dick and Damian's conversations that actually like, mean something, or are more emotional/typical to what (much of) fandom wants are not in batman and robin 2009, but kind of sandwiched in some plots in regular batman or detective comics, which is a shame b/c for the most part Damian doesn't show up much in Batman or Detective comics.

OK back to Morrison's B&R - I feel like some of Dick's cavalierness is pretty in character XD Dude does not have a way with words he can get foot and mouth disease. The bigger moments, like just. ignoring when Damian is shot pretty much. I feel like a lot of the reason morrison's dick does come across as so unconcerned is frankly because morrison is not really interested in establishing personal relationships and is more into. their super weird plot which I don't think was even that good, or like. Big Hero Moments ™ without understanding what makes a Big Hero Moment. ™ And this does extend to Damian and Bruce as portrayed by Morrison, when Morrison's Big Heroic Sacrifice is... returning his son to the league that was under Morrison's writing extremely abusive to him.

Batman and Robin 2011 definitely has a lot of moments where it seems like the writer was actually more invested in trying to create a relationship between the two titular characters, whereas Morrison is very uninvested in it. I know I've seen some people dislike it because it feeling kind of like a backsliding on Damian's character, which I think is partially Tomasi's different interpretation though I'll admit I wound up reading the story more charitably than some people do (probably because it was my first Batman and Robin run. And I assume Bruce was supposed to be flat out wrong in some cases XD). I know the biggest criticism I've seen from fellow Damian fans is over-emphasizing Damian's 'killer instinct' which. Again I said I read some of that as Bruce being flat out just wrong and having his own assumptions, but some of it is hard to handwave/explain like that. That's getting off the topic of character relationships tho and more into the specific characterization of the story.

I know I rbed some posts comparing Bruce and Damian vs Dick and Damian's interactions earlier I can try to scrounge them up if you want.

Anyway: way too TL;DR: I think Fandom makes their dynamic boring, but I don't think Dick dropping the ball sometimes w/ Damian is necessarily a bad thing, and some of the different focuses is because of writer differences

NGL I will confess I do find the whole fandom 'Dick saves Damian from Bruce' things cringe, partially b/c that never actually gives Damian any agency and just winds up treating him as a prop for Dick to rescue, partially because I don't like going with the worst written version of Bruce possible, but mostly because literally Damian already has a mom if he's having a bad time with his dad he has another parent.

So yesterday was eventful to say the least. I don't know how it happened but me and my brother were talking of the Prequels and lightsabers, and he always takes things the wrong way. Now I said I like blue lightsabers. Which is the truth - out of them all, blue is my favourite, probably because green and purple hurt my eyes more for some reason.

And then somehow my brother went to guessing what my current fictional crush was from this blue lightsaber thing....

And good God almighty when he like 'you really like Obi-Wan don't you' I was like 'see ya bye' and retreated back into my bedroom.

and then he was still talking and we were just conversing this across the upstairs floor and it was great.

Not so embarrassing anymore, but St the time it was like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more embarrassing than anything else. Probably because it was the only one my brother didn't just KNOW and had to piece everything together for.

There’s a lot of rps/fics on my dash of egos fading and I had to write down this thing. - This is based on my versions of the egos just FYI. Angst ahoy.

Like imagine if Marvin and Dark were like actual egos and depending on how people think on them they come and go and are at risk of fading if they aren’t remembered. Dark is so popular he’s never even been close to fading but Marvin isn’t nearly as popular and at some point he kind of falls out of favour and starts to fade. Slowly at first, enough that he tries to hide it from Dark but he can’t hide it for long because as he’s fading he’s also getting weaker and as soon as Dark realises, he swears he’ll bring Marvin back and refuses to let him spend a single fading moment alone.

The second Marvin is completely faded, Dark is doing everything in his power to bring Marvin back,desperate to have him back and make people remember the magic man. But when they do and Marvin comes back, he’s remembered differently and has changed. There are important parts of Marvin that are completely missing, like his library job, he works as a barista or a waiter or something silly like that now. Without being the librarian, Marvin technically didn’t meet Dark so he doesn’t remember him, doesn’t know they were a thing and despite Dark’s best efforts to remind him, Marvin has no inclination to get to know Dark because their first meeting has been eradicated. Also Dark is a weird grey man who seems a bit obssessed with him and it kind of puts him off.

Marvin encountering Bim, magical, glittery, positive, a hopeless flirt and being drawn to him instead. Someone so different from Dark and Dark watches as they get closer, as they do the things that he used to do with Marvin and having to watch as Marvin is completely happy with someone else. But hey, he tries to remind himself. At least Marvin isn’t faded any more. If anything everyone’s paying him so much more attention now.

Heartbroken Dark becoming bitter and angry, slowly developing a deep hatred for Bim. Frequently going out his way to make a nuisance of himself for Bim but never involving Marvin. A couple of times he tries to go into hiding hoping that he might fade away but nope, never fading because he’s just too popular.

What would have been Dark and Marvin’s anniversary comes around and Bim takes Marvin on a glamping trip somewhere remote and wild. Dark sits in a cake shop that Marvin introduced him to with a cupcake trying to convince himself that this is better than Marvin being faded, which it is, but fuck it hurts so badly.

Bim and Marvin coming back and being so coupley, so Dark gives the would-be anniversary present (some album or something that he knew Marvin badly wanted) to Bim to give to Marvin. Then at least Marvin still gets it from someone who matters to him.

Ultimately it doesn’t work out between Bim and Marvin, after several months they break up and both of them are feeling pretty damn wronged. Like it’s a messy break up. Marvin winds up complaining about him to Dark and Dark obviously is kind of happy but also not because he wants Marvin to be happy.

By this point he’s convinced himself that Marvin would just be happier without him so he tries to set Marvin up on a couple dates and none of them work out or go beyond like a second date. Dark getting drunk whenever Marvin’s on a date because yeah he’s going to be fine but I need to be drunk.

One time Marvin bails on a date and comes back and finds drunk!Dark who starts talking about ‘his ex’ clearly talking about Marvin, except of course Marvin doesn’t remember so it’s all just “Oh he would do this and that and whatever.” Then Marvin asks what happened to him and Dark says that he faded. Marvin having heard about fading from Bim and the others and so he feels so bad for this poor weirdo so he sits and drinks with him for a bit.

Dark and Marvin end up falling asleep on the couch together and Marvin just keeps making excuses to hang out with Dark over the next weeks and months. Like he arranges dates but none of them work and he much prefers Dark’s company because the guy is kind of a fun person to be around (when he isn’t being a mopey ass). Then some time, Bim tells Marvin that that present was actually bought by Dark and reveals to Marvin that he’s the faded ex Dark is still pining over and that’s like a big revelation.

He avoids Dark for weeks, Dark becoming bitter and drunk most of the time until Marvin comes back and asks Dark on a date because Dark is kind of a nice guy you know, he has fun hanging with him, and like he’d like to try and get to know him in a date environment.

Okay Imma stop there cause this got waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay away from me.
