W< in SO-EN Sept 1998 Issue via alviss.jp The Fall/Winter 1998-1999 collection, like the previous one, was held in a massive studio on the outskirts of Paris used for film and television productions. The surrounding area is lined with apparel factories. The message for this collection was “Believe.” It was inspired by an exhibition in London themed around fairy tales and the painters who depicted them. Walter emphasized, “There are things we must believe in, even if they are uncertain or difficult to prove.” This concept of “In Fairytale…” became the theme of W<’s main line.
Additionally, the show featured the influence of conceptual artist Orlan, which was evident in the makeup. Orlan is known for altering her body through plastic surgery and making it part of her art. Walter has recently taken an interest in her realistic approach to creation. Drawing from Orlan’s work, the makeup incorporated pre-surgery dotted markings and post-surgery transformations of the forehead, cheeks, and temples. The former was handled by Inge’s team, while the latter was done by Jeff’s team, known for their work on films like Star Wars and The Fifth Element.
The show was structured around four lines—“W&LT Kids,” “W&LT Wanted,” “W&LT,” and “W&LT Limited Edition”—representing changes from childhood to the high-teen years and adulthood. Each part presented different levels of clothing, ranging from sportswear and streetwear to elegant and sharp tailoring, culminating in W&LT-style luxury for adults.

W&LT: Spring/Summer 'Over The Rainbow' By: Water van Beirendonck (1995)
The W&LT SS95 'Over The Rainbow' runway collection was a groundbreaking show that pushed the boundaries of what was possible in the world of fashion. The collection was inspired by the idea of fantasy and imagination, with each piece designed to transport the wearer to a world of their own creation.
The show began with a burst of light and sound, as models emerged onto the runway wearing brightly colored, oversized coats and hats. The coats were made from a variety of materials, including wool, silk, and leather, and featured bold patterns and prints that added to the sense of whimsy.
