every single day I think about how american black vultures are known for engaging in interspecific allopreening (preening between different species)

and they have a specific relationship with crested caracaras, in which the black vultures assist them by not only preening them after meals but also leading them to food in the first place, while the caracaras assist the black vultures by acting as a warning signal in case of danger

and while this is more typical of black vultures, this is not common at all for any member of the falconidae family— it’s a special bond!

yet another post in favor of vultures everyone , hope you enjoy:) and I implore you to do some more research on these incredible birds !!

General info: They were all Human at some point and bonded over the fact they became this way by Norman's hand. Every inhuman feature about them is purely genetic now (Excluding Myst+Tink+Sandman). The whole group bonded over their shared hatred for Osborn in general though.

Adrian: He's an Egyptian Vulture. Tall as HELL, he's the second tallest. He's technically the leader and carries the burden of having a team made up of traumatized mutants while also being a traumatized mutant-

Lizard: Trans woman, Her name is Camila :] She has exactly 5 different lizard species in her DNA (5 points for anyone who can guess them all just from her design)

Rhino: It no longer identifies with anything from its life before getting mutated in an attempt to have some control over its life. Rhino strictly uses It/Its. Aside from Rhino DNA, It also has wooly mammoth DNA.

Lizard and Rhino fuckin HATE eachother. It stepped on her tail ONCE and she never forgave it. Mysterio often has to split the two up with his Alien form.

Electro: Graffiti artist. Has somewhat control over his bio electricity, Gloves and chestplate (which is what that tube attached to the back of his head is connected to.) help maintain that control.

Tinkerer (bc he's there): (My silly, my skrungly, my funny lil old man blorbo hehheghem-) Trans man :] Has a cat he rescued off the streets (bc i kept seeing people give him a cat and its like. Its a good headcanon) He and Beck met during his stuntman days (He was technical support on a movie Beck worked on), He isn't very fond of alot of the sinister six (Him and sandman are chill tho) but he tolerates them for Beck.

The fluffy black patches are the result of mosaicism! basically Survivor has 2 sets of DNA (aka being a chimera). in animals like cats, this can result in otherwise impossible color/fur texture combinations (such as a shorthaired cat having longhaired patches).

Also Survivor has so many scars bc she wants to fight!!! She has a knack for sensing danger but just bc she knows it's there doesn't mean she makes smart decisions when dealing with it lol

Today’s pixel art bird is the turkey vulture! I took this photo in California, but they can be found all over the US. Turkey vultures are one of my favorite birds. They are very recognizable as they soar through the sky, wings held in a V, wobbling distinctively on the wind, with the back edges of their wings being cream in color. They are easily distinguished from black vultures this way, as black vultures only have lighter colored wing tips.

Their scientific name, Cathartes aura, can translated from Latin to “golden purifier.” This name is very regal for a bird that uses vomit as a defense mechanism and urinate on their legs to cool down, but I think it suits them nonetheless.

Turkey vultures were also the subject of an infamous experiment by John James Aubudon (an ornithological titan) where he incorrectly concluded that vultures did not use their sense of smell to find food, leading to the widespread generalization that birds have a bad sense of smell. This was challenged over the course of many years by the work of people like Betsy Bang, a biologist and medical illustrator, and Dr. Gabrielle Nevitt, a neurobiologist who is still conducting research after some breakthroughs involving seabirds and fishy liquid soaked tampons.

Awkward little video of this antler belt thing I made :3

It’s got dangly deer teeth and crystals hanging off of the… very chewed up points. It’s a shed I found that’s conveniently the exact curvature of my waist, and conveniently the circular base was chewed into a semicircle by rodents, so it sits totally flush with my body! The coyote tail is detachable, it’s just clipped on.

Today I've learned in English you guys call this bird a bearded vulture, and I'm a little bit disappointed, to tell you the truth. Because in Spanish, its name is just infinitely cooler and so much more metal.

We call it a "quebrantahuesos", literally "bone breaker", "bone shatterer", or "bone smasher".

Gotta be the only animal that sounds like a pro wrestler in Spanish but it's just a vulture that forgot to shave in English.
