It was the day everyone was looking forward to, the day that both Victor and I were patiently waiting for, and now its finally here... our wedding day.
We decided that, instead of a church wedding, we'd get married in our best friends barn in his back yard then have the reception at a close–by venue.
We got engaged exactly a year and a half ago, knowing we'd want a winter wedding, exactly a week before christmas. We found a little snowy cottage in the mountains that we wanted to stay at / go to for our honeymoon.
My dress came in last month, and it fits me perfectly. Vic had his since last year, knowing he'd have to keep in shape in order for him to still be able to wear it, when everything finally comes into fruition.
We only invited our friends and family, total wedding and reception maxing out 50, we invited 40. Plenty of room to have a good time.
My maid of honor ‐ Deacon's wife Annie - helped me get into my dress while my two other bridesmaids ‐ Chris and Molly ‐ did my hair and makeup. I was okay with Chris not wearing a dress, as she opted for a dark purple and black pantsuit instead.
Once I got dressed and Vic's best man came for me ‐ Deacon himself ‐ I do my best to keep myself together as we walk to the front doors of the barn.
Since my dad nor my mom is here to walk me down the aisle, Deacon took it upon himself to take on that duty, not taking no for an answer. So here we are at the doors waiting for the famous song to be played, and Deac turns to me and says, "your beautiful. Victor's gonna be a crying mess when he sees you." I laugh as I hold back tears. "Don't cry, your gonna mess up your makeup." I chuckle and reply "who needs makeup when you're in love with someone who loves you no matter what you look like, makeup or no makeup. But thank you, Deacon, for being my shoulder to walk me down the aisle. It means, a lot since my dad's not here to do it."
Before he could respond, we hear our signal and fix ourselves. I hang onto Deacons arm with my left hand while my right holds onto my bouquet and the bottom of my dress as the barn doors are opened. I see everyone standing, the only person standing out to me tremendously, my soon–to–be husband, Victor Tan. And just like Deacon said, once he saw me he couldn't stop the flow of tears from his eyes. I did my best to keep my composure so my makeup wouldn't look like a wreck if front of our guests. As Deacon hands me off to Victor and gets back to his spot behind the groom, I hand my bouquet to Annie and step in–front of Vic and grab both his hands as the officiant starts the ceremony.

"I now pronounce you, husband and wife, you may now kiss your bride." Victor smiles and leans in to give me one of the best kisses yet. We turn to our guests and the officiant says, "I pronounce to you, Mr. & Mrs. Victor Tan!" We kiss one more time and walk out of the barn holding hands, smiling.
We get into the rented range rover and drive to a nearby abandoned building and park.
We both agreed to wait to have sex once we're married, but to also not wait once we're somewhere private, either. So we opted for car sex. Passionate, sexy and meaningful.
Once he parks, we hurry to the back seat, put both seats down and strip ourselves naked, making sure not to waste anymore time than we've already lost by driving to our 'abandoned–building–sex' location.
He wastes no time in getting behind me, pushing himself inside and roughly thrusting in and out, his fingers leaving bruises behind from the amount of pressure he's putting on my hips.

After everything's done, and the reception is finished, it was time for pictures.
Our photographer snapped many photos ‐ some we loved and some we didn't ‐ and everything was good. You could just *tell* how happy Victor looked. You could tell. That look he gave me, was the same one he gave me while we were fucking in the rental car, just hours before our reception ‐ pure lust ‐ my favorite 'private moment' between us so far.
After pictures, we thank eveyone for coming, then leave in the rental range rover and head to our hotel, where we'll stay the night, then early that next morning ‐ 3:40 am ‐ we'll get up, pack and fly to our honeymoon.

After Victor unlocks the front door, we finally walk in the cabin we're staying at for our honeymoon, and drag our luggage to our room. We spend a few hours in our room to ourselves, not coming out until it was 3am ‐ we were both hungry so I had to make something ‐ then going back for the rest of the night.
We finally came out of the room at 2, deciding to go outside and adventure, along with a few snowball fights as well.
A snow war, two snow forts and a shit ton of snowballs later, we go inside for some hot chocolate.
Victor takes off all his coats and his boots then goes to the cabinet and grabs two packets of hot chocolate. I take off my coats and my boots as well then sit on the couch in front of the fireplace and wait.
"I can't believe you ambushed me! Your own husband!" I laugh as he hands me my mug of hot chocolate full of marshmallows. "Yeah, thats something you should get used to." he laughs and sits down beside me.
"do you think anyone knew what we did after they announced us?" I laugh so hard, I sneeze chocolate out of my nose. "I don't think they had a clue, but you did fuck me good though, I'll give you that." he smiles. "thank you. I'll except that compliment, and raise you higher on that tonight."
We finish our hot chocolates and go back outside to the snow.

It was two days before Christmas and we had already planned to stay at his moms until after New Years.
We pack that night and get everything ready for when we wake up early tomorrow morning to leave for the airport headed back home.

After an hour flight we finally land and grab our luggage and get off the plane. We go through baggage then head to security check. We walk outside to find his mom waiting for us. We stuff our bags in her car and she drives off.
An hour after we've gotten to his moms home, we settle in and get everything set and ready for Christmas ‐ and a surprise I've been waiting so long to give/tell him - as we both fall asleep peacefully next to each other.

On Christmas morning, Victor surprised me with breakfast in bed ‐ grits {w. cheese}, waffles, bacon, milk and orange juice ‐ then we go open presents with his mom in the living room.
His mom got me some stuff for our new house, I got her a new pot and pan, she got Victor some underwear and socks ‐ to which he was embarrassed that she knew his size ‐ and he got his mom a photobook full of his childhood and adulthood memories.
Victor grabbed my present from behind the couch and handed it to me. I opened it and was shocked ‐ an ornament with a picture of us at our wedding, saying 'Victor & Miya, our first Christmas 2019.' "aww, Victor. You didn't have to do this," I smile then stand up to give him a hug and kiss. "but my present is better," he looks at me in confusion as I grab the final box under the tree ‐ a small box ‐ and smile, handing the box to Victor.
He looks at me with a weird face, but unwraps the red ribbon and pulls the top off the box, then he looks at me. "w–what?" I nod my head as I take a sip of my hot chocolate. "you're, pregnant?" I set my mug down on the coffee table in front of me and turn to Victor. "I found out last week. I wanted so badly to tell you, but I figured since Christmas was coming up I might as well wait. So I put all three tests in this box and wrapped it up, then made sure it was hidden so you wouldn't grab it first." Vic's mom was so happy, she started crying tears of joy. We all hugged each other then threw away all the trash from the presents.
Victor's mom makes up food while I get all the drinks ready and set them on the table. He helps her plate the food and hands them to me to take to the table.

After we eat and Vic and I help wash dishes, we sit down on the couch and put on a movie.
After the ending credits rolled through, Victor realized I was asleep and carried me to the room, then got in beside me and also fell asleep with him cuddling me.
New Years Eve came around, and we had a party at our house. Everyone from SWAT was invited and we had drinks and plenty of snacks for everyone.
We all kept an eye on the time ‐ 10am became 2pm which then became 5pm ‐ until finally 11:18pm rolled around. Only 42 minutes left until New Years.
11:25, 11:35, 11:45, 11:55, then came 11:58, only two minutes until New Years.
Once it hit 11:59, everyone started counting down from 60 ‐ 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, ‐ "5! 4! 3! 2! 1! Happy New Year!" everyone yelled out as Victor's lips found mine and captured them in a kiss, ready for whatever the new year brings us.

“Here we go sweet boy.” Tan slips the light green pacifier into Spencer’s mouth in place of his fingers, Reid takes to it easily, as he always does when Tans the one giving it to him. For some reason Deacon doesn’t get the same affect which means endless teasing from Victor.
“Go to sleep hun, we’re right here.” Deacon coos, grinning at how Spencer turns to wrap his arm around David’s waist then reach his other hand out to pull on Tans shirt. They both snuggle into Spencer’s space quickly.

44 Members Of Congress Push Feds To Investigate Police Shooting Of Black Woman In Botched Drug Raid
Forty-four members of Congress sent a letter to the Department of Justice on Friday, calling for an independent investigation into a fatal police shooting of an unarmed young black woman who was killed during the botched execution of a search warrant for an alleged drug crime.
In the letter, led by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA), the lawmakers said the Louisville, Kentucky Police Department SWAT team acted recklessly and 26-year-old Breonna Taylor’s death “is an unspeakable tragedy that requires immediate answers and accountability.”
Breonna Taylor was an EMT because she wanted the best foundation to become a nurse.
Then she was senselessly shot and killed by police.
Today, @RepLucyMcBath and I are demanding an independent DOJ investigation into her killing. We need accountability for the loss of her life.

Citing prior excessive force incidents with two of the three officers involved in Taylor’s shooting—as well as prior alleged improper enforcement by the department’s SWAT team in a botched marijuana raid—they requested an investigation “into the shooting of Breonna Taylor, as well as a pattern or practice investigation into the Louisville Police Department for potential civil rights violations.”
In the 2018 cannabis raid case, the family said that the “targets of the investigation did not live at the home, and this could easily have been discovered by police prior to their execution of the warrant,” the legislators wrote. “In light of the troubling parallels between these cases, we ask the Justice Department to conduct an independent investigation to determine whether the Louisville Police Department has engaged in a pattern or practice of constitutional violations.”
“Ms. Taylor was a young woman with plans for a long, fruitful life. Her mother has said that Ms. Taylor had planned to become a nurse, buy a home, and one day start a family. Instead, her life was brutally cut short by a haphazard law enforcement exercise. Ms. Taylor worked to save lives during the COVID-19 pandemic; it is time for the U.S. Department of Justice to honor hers.”
Other lawmakers signing the letter include: Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), as well as Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Ro Khanna (D-CA), Joe Kennedy III (D-MA), Jim McGovern (D-MA), Joe Neguse (D-CO), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Mark Pocan (D-WI), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA).
The letter has been endorsed by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Drug Policy Alliance and ACLU.
The day prior to the letter’s release, FBI announced that it will be investigating the shooting. It’s not clear if the scope of the investigation will fully satisfy the legislators’ request.
According to a recent report from the ACLU, Kentucky ranks second in racial disparities in marijuana enforcement, with black people there being 9.4 times more likely to be arrested for the offense compared to white people despite similar cannabis consumption rates.

Stranger: It was around seven minutes later that Victor managed to maneuver himself into the flat, the shopping clenched in one hand with the stray dog in the other. At that point, the dog had stopped shivering and was instead getting a little uncomfortable in Victor's grip as he squirmed about. He made his way up the stairs carefully, but as soon as he managed to make it up, he placed the dog on the ground and let him wander into the flat. The dog was clearly nervous but nevertheless sniffed around, pausing every so often and wagging his tail. "Locket, I've got your milk," Victor called out, keeping an eye on the small animal. "And, er, your new little friend."
Stranger: [brb]
You: What started out as mild annoyance and bitter jealousy had slowly transformed into worry and bubbling excitement. The detective drew a quick bath and gathered what little products could be used to help clean the animal up. It'd been quite some time since he'd last had a furry companion and the pleasure of having a new one was far too grand to hide. There was a mischievous and vibrant glint to the brunet's gaze as he abandoned the bathroom to greet their new companion. "Victor," he murmured, ignoring the man in favour of approaching the dog. "Bonjour, mon chéri. Froid?" Sherlock continued, crouching before the animal with his hand outstretched. "Je vous réchauffer, mon chiot." (Hello, my darling. Cold? I will warm you my puppy.)
Stranger: "And just like that, I'm outclassed by a dog," Victor sighed with faux-annoyance as he let Sherlock approach the dog. He was secretly extremely pleased, though. Seeing Sherlock any shade of happy was always a good thing, and he crouched down by Sherlock. The puppy shrank away from Sherlock's hand at first, but after a few seconds of hesitation, he leaned forward and tentatively sniffed at him. That turned to the dog starting to gently lick and then nibble on Sherlock's fingers when they were prsented to him. "I can't believe anyone would do that. I heard these terrible little noises coming from the alley, and he was curled up in a box that was half-underwater. The /poor/ thing. I fed him some of the chicken I got at the store and I swear, he looked like I'd just given him the golden egg."
You: Dragging his sharp gaze to Victor, the brunet took the man's words in for only just a moment before reaching out to lift the dog up, tucking the creature close to his chest and shoulder. Clearly taking more interest in the canine than the other male. It would only be temporary, of course. "Given we were not prepared for his arrival, I will let it slide that you gave him chicken." He remarked, expression softening when he looked down at the canine. He cooed a few more words in French, his tone lilting and soft. It changed almost immediately when he called out to Victor. "Will you grab a few towels for when I've finished washing him?" Sherlock inquired, not bothering to wait for a response as he disappeared into the bathroom. He set the canine slowly into the water, ensuring it was at a comfortable temperature as well as that the animal would not make a run for it.
Stranger: "It was either chicken or granola, love, and he turned his nose up at that." Victor didn't mind it. It was brilliant to see Sherlock so enraptured. Certainly Sherlock liked his little shield where he didn't like anything besides his own work, but Victor knew even he couldn't resist a bright-eyed little puppy. He leaned over to press a kiss to Sherlock's head in response but before he could, the man was already up and moving towards the bathroom. "Twit," he chided comfortably as he went to get a few towels. As soon as the dog hit the water, he made a terrified little yip and looked up at Sherlock with big, mournful eyes. As the dog got more comfortable, however, he resumed wagging his tail and nosing at Sherlock's hand. The dog's fur was matted and dirty, and underneath it was clear he hadn't been eating well. Victor joined his partner in the bathroom a little while after, holding three towels over his armr. "Aww. Look at you."
You: There was a slight hint of panic as the puppy gave his terrified yip. It was only doused with relief when he realized it was due to the unknown rather than the water being too warm. Running the water over the canine's coat, he washed it free of all the dirt he could without product. Untangling several knots as he pet through the animal's coat. "Are you speaking to the dog or to me, Victor?" The brunet inquired, eyes focused solely on the canine as he worked. Once it came time to lather the soap into the dog's coat, Sherlock lifted his head to finally look at the other man and then shifted closer to the dog. Cooing faintly in French to keep his words a secret from Victor. It wasn't as if it weren't obvious that he was coddling the animal, but this was just one of those many things he wished to keep a secret. The dog was a weakness. After rubbing the soap into the dog's coat, Sherlock leaned back and set to washing the suds out, taking care with the animal's ears and eyes.
Stranger: "I'm speaking to the man who's obviously melting over this dog," Victor teased him. He got on his knees next to him by the tub, occasionally leaning forward to run his hand down the dog's back to soothe him. "I was going to suggest we take him and just see if he's got an owner, but I'm not totally convinced you wouldn't give him up even if he had one." For the second time, he leaned over and pecked Sherlock's cheek warmly before the man could swat him away. The puppy seemed to enjoy the bath, starting to pant as his ears were handled. His eyes were shut after he had discovered that soap in his eyes wasn't a particularly good feeling, and he setted his chin on the edge of the tub. Victor reached over to fiddle with the dog's paws, one at a time, trying to work at the knots and dirt stuck between his toes. "I think it's all very adorable, you know. Big bad Sherlock Holmes gets all huffy when his partner flirts with a grocer, but he's an absolute /teddy bear/ when there's an abandoned puppy involved."
You: "Don't be ridiculous, Victor. I am not 'melting.'" He remarked with an exasperated scoff. "I already stated that he doesn't have an owner, and if he did... Well, clearly they're an idiot. They've no idea how to shelter and care for an animal." The man stated bitterly, tone crisp and chilled with his displeasure over the situation. It changed, if only slightly, when Victor spoke gain. All because of the reminder that Victor had flirted with someone else. Not so easily consoled by the kiss to his cheek, the brunet became eerily quiet and allowed his pale features to take on a displeased pout of an expression. He openly ignored the other man once more out of his jealousy, washing the last of the dirt away from the top of the dogs coat to begin working on its tail and legs. "Vous ne serez pas flirter avec un autre, non? Vous ne serait jamais, mon chiot." Sherlock spoke to the animal, humming and cooing affectionately. "Je devrais trouver un nom pour vous. Un bien plus approprié que chiot." He added, leaning back after rinsing the animal's coat out completely. (You will not flirt with another, right? You would never, my puppy. I should find a name for you. More appropriate than puppy.)
Stranger: Sherlock was in a bad mood again. Victor wasn't an expert on Sherlock's emotions, but he figured he was nearly half on the level that John was. Hopefully. "I think it's attractive when you speak French," he tried half-heartedly. Raising one sudsy hand, Victor fondled Sherlock's hair a bit while he washed the dog. "We can keep him, either way. I think he likes you. Look how he's looking at you." And the puppy was looking at him a bit adoringly, even allowing his tail and legs to be manhandled as Sherlock washed them. When the dog was completely rinsed, Victor picked him up and placed him on the towel. Before he could properly get the dog under control, though, he shook, spraying both Sherlock and Victor with a healthy dose of water before allowing Victor to gently dry him. He worked on his ears first, backing off a little when he heard the puppy give a pained snort. "He'll be sleeping in our bed, of course. God knows he's probably been in a box his entire life, the poor thing. We'll get him some proper food and make sure he's got plenty of things to chew on. Won't we, Locket?" The dog was struggling a little in the towel, trying to get closer to Sherlock again. When it was clear Victor had a hold on him, the puppy flopped down and shut his eyes.
You: The man's attempts were working only faintly. The stony expression lifting bit by bit until he was merely pouting. He tried not to make it obvious but there was no way to mask it. The canine paired with Victor's praise was precisely what undid him in the end. It was ridiculous-/absurd/-and wholly unfair. Crossing his arms over his chest, the brunet watched as the man attempted to dry the dog down only to get them both wet in the end. His clothes were beginning to stick to his lithe figure in certain places, his hands picking at the fabric in an attempt to keep it from sticking to his skin. "We will still have to find a bed for him. If he ends up sleeping with us, then he'll take on your habits of trying to steal as much space as possible." Sherlock remarked dryly although there was a clear hint of fondness tinging his words. When the other man had finished drying the canine off as much as possible, the brunet crossed over to the other man and curled his fingers around the front of his shirt to draw him in close. "Of course, I could simply let him take your place on the bed..." He hummed, pressing a kiss to the corner of the man's mouth before turning away to get undressed. "We'll need to buy everything for him tomorrow."
Stranger: There was Sherlock. Victor grinned a little at him. When he was kissed, he pressed his hands against Sherlock's neck for a few seconds to keep him there. Their relationship was rocky at points. Victor enjoyed people immensely, enjoyed socialising, and, yes, he enjoyed flirting every now and then. Most of the time, he wasn't even aware he did it. It would just take Sherlock's stony expression on the way home for him to realise that he'd probably gone a little overboard. "Oh, no, you'd miss me too much. I don't know if you could manage to get a full night's sleep without having someone hold you or you holding someone," Victor teased. They made it work. Probably helped that Victor adored the man in front of him more than anyone else in the world, and went to considerable lengths to try and get a smile out of him. "Besides," he went on flirtatiously, "I like to think I've got another purpose in bed besides -- oh, /damn/!" he cursed out. As he was drawing close to Sherlock, the puppy, now unconstrained by Victor's hands, made a sprint towards the living room. His little claws clattered on the floor as he left as quickly as possible.
You: Victor would be the death of him. Or would have been if the puppy had not arrived. Unable to keep from chuckling, Sherlock reached up to stroke his fingers lightly over the man's neck in a teasing caress before slipping away. He'd return once he was certain that their new companion had not gotten into trouble or wouldn't. There was also the matter of introducing the canine to the landlady. "Chiot," he called out, cooing for the creature. He listened for the telltale scratch of claws against wood, of clumsy happy footfalls, and the obnoxious and excited pants of a canine. "Chiot, venez. Venez. Vous ne voulez pas que je vous donne des baisers?" Sherlock continued, heading towards the sounds of the canine and all but ready to snatch him up and cradle him close. "Voulez-vous que je vous caresser? Venez, chiot. /Venez/, mon chiot." The man continued, the mirth obvious within his expression. Whilst he believed that the canine would be troublesome, the brunet was looking forward to every moment they would share with it. Especially if Victor would partake in each second. The man might be maddening, but he could not do anything without him. (Puppy, come. Come. You do not want me to give you kisses? Would you I caress you? Come on, puppy. Come, my puppy.)
Stranger: Victor got up and followed after Sherlock, whistling for the dog. The puppy had scrambled his way back to the living room and had dragged out the rest of the chicken that he'd been given from the shopping bag. It was clear that his initial plan was to run off with it, as he was currently sitting and whining by the flight of stairs. Occasionally he'd dip one paw down and let out a cry of despair, his entire body hunched up and slightly shaking. Victor's heart nearly broke when he saw him, and he gripped Sherlock's arm tightly and let out a small 'Aw, Locket, look!'. Once the dog realised he'd been spotted, he was all tail wags and dog grins, nearly trotting back over to them and sniffing their trouser legs expectantly. "Poor thing's probably still hungry. We can make do tonight and find something to give him, and then I'll go get something proper tomorrow. Oh, god, we haven't even named him yet." Victor bent down to pick the dog up but quickly and lovingly passed it over to Sherlock. Sherlock was the enraptured one, after all. "We are not naming it anything I can't pronounce, so stop going through French nouns in your head."
You: As his arm was gripped, Sherlock released a sharp breath and reached up to tangle in his fingers with the man's. He only let go when Victor went to collect the canine and bring him over. He cradled the creature close, humming as he dragged his fingers through the warm and soft coat. He had already thought of several names but at the immediate rejection, he let it go. "We aren't naming it anything ordinary or boring either." He remarked, carrying the animal towards the sofa so that he could sit down. He was truly enraptured by it. Truly and utterly in love with the canine in his arms. He kept stroking over the dog's coat, soothing it and whispering small secrets and snippets of French. It was far to sentimental and grossly affectionate, yet the brunet could not stop himself. He was irrevocably attached-to both dog and man. "What else did you buy, Victor? If we choose to feed him more of the chicken, it will need to be skinned to ensure there is nothing overly greasy still attached." He commented, rubbing the animal's ears gently. "Perhaps I should name you after one of my favorite scientists...? A favored composer?" Sherlock murmured, lifting is gaze from the animal momentarily to glance towards Victor. "Did you have any suggestions for a name? If not, then I can easily continue to call him /chiot/."
Stranger: Moving to sit down by him on the sofa, Victor just leaned against Sherlock's shoulder and cooed at the small animal. Unlike his much more brusque partner, Victor had no shame in showing affection. He did, frequently and to everyone. When they'd first gotten together, Victor was extraordinarily affectionate in front of John -- jealousy? To show that he was good for Sherlock, that he didn't make the man more closed off? He didn't know. Victor offered a finger and let the puppy chew on him for a few seconds before taking his finger away. "Bach?" He offered. "Because we found him in a box, and it -- well, it sounds similar." It sounded weak, even to his own ears, and Victor felt the tip of his ears flush red slightly. "I've got some more chicken, and we've got some vegetables, and milk, and -- oh, I've just got some peanut butter, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a little of that, too. Not much, poor thing. Don't want him to vomit." And, er, they'd have to avoid the baking chocolate Victor had gotten. "We could name him after one of your cases, maybe? Or something to do with John? He'd be pleased. Or some famous hermit scientist that you like."
You: Sherlock moved to lean into Victor further once the man settled down in place. Where he was more chilly and stony in presence, Victor seemed to be the complete opposite. Something he thrived on given how much he desired affection. Even if he made it seem as though it were troublesome or a constant source of irritation. He enjoyed the warmth the other man's body brought forward, as well as the smiling and laughter. Every little bit of happiness the man showed by simply being around him was a soothing balm to the chaos of his mind. Reaching out with one of his hands, he captured Victor's and brought it close so that he could settle it against his body. "Bach is a horrible name, but I suppose it is rather fitting." He murmured, tilting his head to the side. "Let's feed him some more chicken and then a tidbit of peanut butter for desert." Sherlock remarked, turning his head to focus solely on the other man. "What about the name Yorick?" He suggested next, expression scrunching up slightly after. "No, that isn't fitting. Not well at all."
Stranger: Victor blushed further when Sherlock took his hand. Most of the time, he felt flattered that he was this wonderful, gorgeous, brilliant man's partner. While he couldn't ever do what John did (being skirmish about confrontration and blood besides), he enjoyed being this. A person Sherlock could come home to. A person who loved him totallyy, who could hug him and promise him that everything who would be okay. That he could be normal every now and then. Victor enjoyed that role immensely. He also enjoyed being able to appreciate Sherlock's mind without having to be standing over a body. "We are not naming him Yorick," he told him immediately. "But if you're looking for literary characters -- I mean, yes, there's Hamlet and Macbeth and Othello and Romeo. I think I ought to name him Romeo, because he's stolen my partner away from me already --" Victor sighed in dramatics. "But we'll see. Dickens or Twain or Wordsworth or Verne or -- we can feed him some chicken for dinner, actually. I'll be thinking about this all night."

Growing up feeding grain and sweetfeed to horses was a fact of life. I never questioned it. When I got Blade I began doing serious research on horse diet and nutrition. He was “diagnosed” with ulcers shortly after I got him. I wanted to do what’s right by him.
The mission? To provide a safe healthy diet to help Blade with is ulcers but also to help him maintain a healthy weight and positive demeanor.
I didn’t really care about “grain vs. no grain.”
The main thing that stood out in my research.
Horses are grazing animals.
They have small stomachs and are not meant to eat big meals. They should be having small meals throughout the day and grazing as much as possible.
I learned about the horse’s digestive system. Did you know that horses make acid 24 hours per day? In fact, they make 1.5 liters EVERY HOUR.
By spending hours grazing the chewing motion creates saliva, which is swallowed and buffers the stomach acid. Forage fills the stomach and stays there longer than grains. by maintaining forage in the gut it reduces the sloshing of acid up onto the upper walls of the stomach that are NOT protected.
Food then moves from the stomach to the hindgut. Beneficial fermenting microbes here thrive when the pH stays consistent.
Furthermore, I learned that concentrated feeds….grain, commercial feeds, etc, are processed and passed quickly through the stomach. It lowers the pH to create an acidic environment. When too much concentrate is fed it will pass undigested into the hindgut. The sudden drop in acidity can kill off the fermenting bacteria which in turn creates even more problems going forward.
I have a girlfriend who has a thoroughbred (one at the time but now she’s up to three) mare that looks fantastic and only eats one meal a day of forage pellets with supplement. NO GRAIN. The horse is in work and maintains a nice figure with no concentrates at all. This got my gears turning.
Going completely grain-free in a boarding situation was too daunting for me. Blade didn’t have hay at all hours and I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing on that end just yet. (Now that I’ve done the research and seen the results for myself I know I could do it).
I wanted to move toward a 24/7 forage feeding style. While boarding Blade I was unable to make this happen but my farm was extremely wonderful about working with me. We lowered his concentrate and increased his hay.
He also trampled his hay so we installed the Tough-1 hay hoop in his stall. Not only did he eat all of his hay (He got the most of the horses in the barn) but it created much less waste. The net allowed him to “graze” all night long…producing the saliva to buffer his stomach acid.
When I moved Blade home I decided to see if I can make “grain-free” work. I saw him every day and could adjust as needed.
The first step I took was determining the caloric content of Blade’s current grain since his concentrated feed worked for him, he looked great.
I compared forage pellets and found a supplement that I liked. I began with California Trace but ultimately decided to stick with Vermont Blend by Custom Equine Nutrition.
On average a horse needs about 16-20 MCAL per day (Megacalories). Most of this comes from hay.
Hay varies greatly in nutritional value, but for simplicity let’s say that grass hay ranges at about 0.8MCAL/pound.
Alfalfa is slightly more, coming in at about 0.9MCAL/pound
Really though, I didn’t look much at the hay. I planned to have it readily available to him 24/7 at home. He had plenty of 1st cutting grass hay (some clover mixed in).
.I was primarily concerned about complementing the hay.
I had been feeding Blade Nutrena SafeChoice Original. So I looked for information on its digestible energy (MCAL).
Most feed manufacturers will not tell you all of this information…that only led me to want to stop feeding it even more. I asked the top three feed manufacturers in my area for more information and was shot down by all three…being told that all they will provide is what’s on the label.
My favorite nutrition blog, however, had posted a beautiful listing of the MCAL contents in many horse feeds. Formulas may have changed since it was published but this is a good starting point.

It’s importnat to note that nothing about this is exact. No science has agreed upon numbers for dietary needs of horses…or even humans. As individuals we and our horses require slightly different things. That’s why we alter our diet and our horses diet until we find what works. Seasons, workload, and other life events will continue to require us to look at feed and make changes.

Nutrena SafeChoice Original is listed on the chart at approximately 1.4MCAL/pound.
Hay stretcher, on average, is about 1.1MCAL/pound.
Therefore if I fed 4 pounds of SafeChoice I’d need to ultimately replace it with about 5 pounds hay stretcher if I wanted to provide the same calorie content (that does not mean it’s the same nutritional content but let’s not get ahead of ourselves).
Another important this I want to point out is
CHANGING A HORSES FEED IS NEVER SUDDEN.
It took me more than a month to fully transition Blade off the SafeChoice.
The first step was to introduce the supplement to make sure he’d even eat it.
I chose Vermont Blend because it was designed to complement the AVERAGE hay profile in the northeastern United States. Our soil here is high in iron so Nicole omits it from the formula. She has done a lot of research to get the numbers and even recently updated the formula to a more recent hay profile testing. Essentially this can be fed with hay and the entirety of the horse’s nutritional needs will be met. Considering it’s a powder, however, I chose to combine it with SOMETHING…hence mix with forage pellets.
I ordered Vermont Blend and started by added small amounts to his feed. By doing this he learned about the new smell VT Blend added and developed a taste for it little by little.

As Blade came to accept the supplement I began replacing the grain.
He already ate alfalfa and beet pulp pellets so I kept this the same.
I reduced his concentrated feed week by week while increasing the hay stretcher until the last of his concentrated grain was gone and he was cruising grain-free.
I wasn’t 100% satisfied so I went back to researching. I didn’t like his underdeveloped topline. Although work and exercises are the best way to fix this I also learned that Vitamin E plays an important role in muscle health as well as the central nervous system and many internal organs. Grass contains vitamin E but once it has been cut for hay the antioxidant degrades fast.
I added Vitamin E to Blade’s diet and was very happy to see him doing better. His topline improved and he seemed to have a better disposition overall.

I didn’t get a chance to work with the formula more on Blade, but I came to realize that he needed LESS in the winter than he did in the summer. He lost weight in summer and it seemed I was always playing catch-up to get him back. He would burn calories through sweating, kicking and swatting away flies, and of course our riding. I also noticed he stood around more. When it got hot he wasn’t as interested in his hay. In the winter he spent more time eating and get fat easily.
Zeno Bay and Vai Via were easy to go grain-free. They came to me as blank slates, having had no prior grain (to my knowledge). I simply added Vermont Blend and their forage pellets and they were happy and healthy.

Tiger has proven to be super easy. So far this winter I have had to CUT DOWN his feed on account of him becoming a land whale.
I have had to add other sources of calories to plump them up, particularly in the summertime when the horses are working and moving more.
My top go-to’s for added calories:
Alfalfa pellets: This is a healthy low sugar, high protein, and moderately high forage pellet at 0.9-1.0MCAL/lb. This provides calcium to buffer stomach acid as well as to balance phosphorus, which is high in the other items I supply.
Flaxseed: I choose to feed flaxseed because it offers healthy fatty acids and is approximately 40% fat. This is high in phosphorus so I make sure to feed with alfalfa.
Beet Pulp: Beet pulp doesn’t offer much nutrition but it does provide a great source of highly digestible fiber. This is the pulp leftover from sugarbeets after all the sugar has been extracted. Therefore it’s low sugar. The digestible energy comes in at about 1.3-1.5MCAL/lb. I don’t usually feed more than 1 pound per day and it’s recommended to feed no more than 3lbs/day. A little goes a long way.
Stabilized Rice Bran: This is also high in fats.
When I’m trying to put a lot of weight on short term I will go to canola oil, but the omega3/omega6 content is skewed so I keep it short term. Zeno Bay got this at first when he arrived.
This simply goes to show that horses CAN go grain-free IF YOU DO IT RIGHT.
The Main Thing Is:
Do it slowly
Add the nutrients that hay does not provide
Add enough calories to suit your horse’s needs
Be patient
Pay close attention to your horse’s body. Take photos if you need to.

We’ve all heard tons about the “New Normal” and what meaning for America. To use your palm as a weapon, plan to jam the heel of your hand into the bottom of the nose or jaw of the attacker then forcefully drag downward together with your fingernails after the strike. Also, plan to push or scratch your nails into or across the eyes of the attacker. Ramming the bottom of the nose are often a deadly punch, especially when delivered from a shorter person upwards into a taller person’s nose. Done correctly with enough force, this sort of strike can send the nasal bones into the brain, killing the person immediately. Obviously, this is often not a way you'd use unless you feared that you simply were in peril of grievous bodily harm or death. An alternate option of the palm strike described above is to drive the Y, formed between your thumb and forefinger, into the throat of the attacker. plan to ram the larynx (Adam’s Apple) as hard as you'll . 3 Gunfights That Shaped Law Enforcement Response
From the American Shooting Journal, they reported on three specific gunfights that have led to changes in response to gunfights with the public. "The gear and training employed by officers is much different today, partly as a result of the infamous FBI Miami shootout in 86. There have been other game-changing gunfights in the last quarter century. The following segment examines each of them and how they changed LE tactics, procedures, and policies. The following are compilation of Police Mag interviews with LEO trainers, firearms experts, and tactical instructors to assess the lasting impacts of these events on patrol officers. As noted by Massad Ayoob, former director of Lethal Force Institute, in addition to horrific circumstances, these incidents contain plenty of bravery by law enforcement officers. “One thing you take from all of these is the tremendous courage of cops fighting against the odds, for their brothers and for the public they serve,” Ayoob says. “It’s inspiring,” they wrote. Full Article The first use-of-force training simulators were pretty much electronic versions of the old Hogan's Alley concept. Officers had to determine whether to shoot or not shoot. Today's use-of-force simulators are much more than shoot, don't shoot tools. They are extremely sophisticated training tools with scenarios that can branch in dozens of different directions based on the student's actions and the instructor's interpretation of the student's performance. The training value of these simulators has made them invaluable tools in contemporary law enforcement training. The three events they cited that shape decision making were: 1) Carl Drega Rampage Aug. 19, 1997: Bloomfield, Vt "As the subject of numerous newspaper editorials, Carl Drega's run-ins with Columbia, N.H., government officials had long been part of local lore. His courtroom antics also served as a catalyst for Judge Vickie Bunnell's decision to carry a gun. His grudges against civic authorities dated back to the early '70s when he bumped heads over the use of tarpaper in his summer home. In 1981, he dumped and packed dirt to the rear of his property next to the Connecticut River, explaining it away as his attempt to repair erosion damage. Government officials saw it differently, characterizing it as an attempt to change the very course of the river," according to Police Magazine. 2) Columbine High School Massacre April 20, 1999: Littleton, CO "At Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, two teens went on a shooting spree on April 20, 1999, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide. The Columbine shooting was, at the time, the worst high school shooting in U.S. history and prompted a national debate on gun control and school safety, as well as a major investigation to determine what motivated the gunmen, Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17," according to History.com 3) North Hollywood Bank Robbery Feb. 28, 1997: Los Angeles, CA "It began as just another gorgeous L.A. day. Then, shortly after 9 a.m., a spectral scene of combat popped onto TV screens across the city. Two armor-clad figures standing calmly outside a bank were spewing machine gun fire at a swarm of police officers shooting back with pistols from behind car doors and trees. Within minutes, the parking lot outside the Bank of America on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood was on television screens across the country, as disbelieving viewers watched the battle unfold on live feeds from network helicopters circling overhead. For 44 minutes, out-gunned officers engaged the bank robbers, dodging barrages of high-powered bullets, rescuing their wounded and peppering their targets with hundreds of shots that bounced off harmlessly. Gradually their shots probed openings in their adversaries’ armor as a SWAT team arrived from afar to equalize the firepower. The North Hollywood shootout ended with the two perpetrators — Larry Eugene Phillips Jr., 26, and Emil Dechebal Matasareanu, 30 — dead in the street. Saints give due diligence to supplemental draft prospect Adonis Alexander
The Virginia Tech cornerback has serious playmaking ability
The 2018 NBA Draft opens up tonight, and the 2018 NHL Draft drops tomorrow to carry us through the weekend. More importantly, the 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft is less than three weeks away, with teams scheduled to make their bids on July 11. The supplemental draft process is a little different from typical annual selections: teams work in a format comparable to silent auctions, offering future draft picks in exchange for any of the handful of prospects.
So if the New Orleans Saints like any of them enough to pick another rookie, they’d have to sacrifice a 2019 draft pick to make it happen. That’s a tall ask given they’re already shorthanded after the Marcus Davenport trade. For reference, the three supplemental draft-eligible prospects are:
CB Adonis Alexander, Virginia Tech Hokies
CB Sam Beal, Western Michigan Broncos
S Brandon Bryant, Mississippi State Bulldogs
It’s interesting that there’s so much activity surrounding this year’s supplemental draft prospects. No team has drafted a player through the supplemental route since the then-St. Louis Rams picked Clemson Tigers offensive tackle Isaiah Battle in 2015; Battle spent two years on the Rams’ practice squad before joining the Kansas City Chiefs, who traded him to the Seattle Seahawks.
The other most-recent supplemental draft pick? Cleveland Browns superstar receiver Josh Gordon went pro in 2012, but his notorious off-field issues have often reduced him to an afterthought. I’m not trying to drag either Battle or Gordon, but their stories do illustrate why the supplemental draft carries more risk for teams.
DraftAnalyst.com’s Tony Pauline reported earlier this week that VT cornerback Adonis Alexander worked out for 26 teams at his individual pro day, meeting privately afterwards with four clubs including the Saints.
Alexander’s pro day workout results were something of a mixed bag: he nailed the height/weight/length measurements (standing 6-foot-2, 195-pounds with 32-inch arms) and explosive testing, posting broad and vertical jumps that would have ranked among the best in the draft class. However, his 40-yard dash time left a lot to be desired (4.61-seconds) and his agility drills (short shuttle and three-cone) were outperformed by some linebackers.
On tape, Alexander looks the part of a big, playmaking defensive back who excels at competing at the catch point and swatting away errant passes (boasting 7 interceptions and 17 other pass deflections in his career). He’s not afraid to mix it up at the line of scrimmage in run support, with 4.5 tackles for loss to his credit. However, his lapses in focus and lack of recovery speed will be problems at the next level.
Unfortunately, Alexander appears to have some issues consistent with supplemental draft prospects. He’s had a couple of off-field incidents in his VT career and is only available in this process because he was ruled academically ineligible to compete as a senior. Members of the VT athletic department characterize him as a “knucklehead” to independent scouts.
So will the Saints select Alexander? It’s too soon to say, though they’re obviously interested. Considering they spent the 2018 offseason restocking the defensive backs room (adding Kurt Coleman, Patrick Robinson, Natrell Jamerson, and Kamrin Moore) and their lack of draft capital in 2019, I’d be surprised if they made any kind of strong bid for Alexander’s services.

Betsy DeVos doesn’t know what her school safety commission is in charge of
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said guns in schools is not part of a federal school safety commission’s charge when asked by a member of Congress on Tuesday afternoon.
DeVos made the comments when pressed by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) during a question regarding the Federal Commission on School Safety, which she chairs, according to numerous reports.
“Will your commission look at the role of firearms as it relates to gun violence in our schools?” Leahy asked.
“That is not part of the commission’s charge, per se,” she responded, adding that the commission was “studying school safety and how we can ensure our students are safe at school.”

The commission was formed in the wake of the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida earlier this year where 17 people were killed. The shooting sparked a renewed call for gun reform, particularly among the surviving students.
Late last month, another school shooting occurred Santa Fe, Texas, where eight students were killed.
In a fact sheet about the commission’s creation, the White House said it would be tasked with addressing “school safety and the culture of violence.”
It also said the commission, headed by DeVos, would “study and make recommendations” on age restrictions to buy “certain firearms,” among other issues.
But not, apparently, the violence caused by firearms.
