Modern Bridgerton AU
Daphne & Simon
Daphne is a typical upper class NYC society girl whose goal is to marry money and spend her life as a stay-at-home mom who brunches and plans fundraisers. She goes to a small, but well-respected liberal arts college (like Swarthmore) and gets a degree in an unemployable but respectable subject (like English Literature or French).
Simon has recently inherited his father’s venture capital firm, only to discover the company is facing a PR crisis after his father’s not entirely ethical investment practices have come to light. And his personal reputation isn’t helping. Simon wants to sell the company so he can move onto other pursuits (probably spending his trust fund on drunken antics anywhere other than New York), but he can’t with all the current negative media attention.
Daphne hears about the situation from her brother, and when she runs into Simon at the next social function, she proposes a deal: They pretend to date. He gets a PR boost from being connected to the Bridgerton family and looking more stable in his personal life, and she gets to piss off her older brother (Anthony) by dating his best friend.
Not long into their arrangement, Daphne organizes a charity tennis tournament. Anthony is pissed that his best friend is dating his sister, who is 8 years younger than them, and challenges Simon to a doubles match. Simon asks their mutual friend Will Mondrich to be his partner - Simon is actually a pretty terrible tennis player, but Will played in college. Anthony drags Benedict in to be his partner - Benedict also isn’t thrilled about Daphne dating a guy 8 years older than her, but knows better than to do anything about it (“Dude, you’re actually gonna do this? You know how hard she hits.”), so he’s only half in it. Colin and Daphne are watching from the slide. Colin can’t stop laughing, and Daphne is about to murder someone.
The boys get it out of their system and come to a tenuous peace, with Simon promising Anthony he has dropped his playboy ways. But Simon doesn't actually have any intentions to get married, even after he’s maybe (but like probably not?) starting to fall in love with Daphne. She finds out about his plans to sell the company and leave New York and is PISSED. She might be willing to never actually get married (look, she really likes him), but she doesn't want to leave her family, and FOR SURE doesn't want to do long distance. Simon doesn't understand what the big deal with long distance is.
Everyone in New York thinks they have some picture perfect relationship, but Daphne is starting to see cracks and feel the pressure. It leads her to pick a fight with Simon, who goes on a business trip to Dallas (Chicago? Denver? Look, he’s not in New York, does it matter where he goes?) to look at this other company he's thinking about buying, and he hates everything about the 2 weeks he's gone because Daphne’s not there. He gets back and they make up. They’re engaged 6 months later.
Once they get married, there’s some disagreement on where they’ll live - Daphne wants to stay close, but Simon wants some distance from the Upper East Side and wouldn’t mind getting out of the city. They compromise and move to Park Slope. After a couple of years, they have a couple of kids, and once their children are school aged, Daphne decides she needs something to do that gets her out of the house. Anthony offers to have her come work with him at the family company, making her a VP of some such that she can do part-time.

I know this is a big what if but if Nixon hadn't had Watergate who do you think he would have wanted to succeed him after his second term since it obviously wasn't Agnew
Nixon very much wanted John Connally to be his successor. Connally was the former Governor of Texas best known for also being shot in Dallas when JFK was assassinated. He was a Democrat and a longtime protege of LBJ, but he switched parties after LBJ died in January 1973 and Nixon thought the world of him. Even before switching parties, Connally had served as Secretary of the Treasury for about 18 months during Nixon's first term and then led a "Democrats for Nixon" group during the 1972 election. Considering the fact that Nixon won 49 of the 50 states, Connally's group probably helped with the landslide.
When Agnew resigned as Vice President in 1973 because of his own corruption charges, Nixon badly wanted to nominate Connally as his VP. However, the fact that Connally had just recently switched parties made it highly unlikely that Democrats in Congress would vote to confirm Connally as Vice President. And since Nixon in a heap of trouble himself at that point it was pretty clear that Nixon's new Vice President could very likely assume the Presidency in the near future. Connally undoubtedly had Presidential ambitions, so that was also a strike against his chances of becoming VP since that would have given him an inside track for the 1976 election.
Even without being appointed to the Vice Presidency, Connally probably would have been a strong candidate for the Presidency in 1976, however he ended up ensnared in his own scandal. Just a few weeks before Nixon was forced to resign as President, Connally was indicted on bribery, perjury, and obstruction of justice charges. He was ultimately acquitted, but it sidetracked his political career and he couldn't gain any traction when he sought the GOP nomination for President in 1980. But if Richard Nixon could have had his way, John Connally likely would have replaced Spiro Agnew as his Vice President and been Nixon's successor as President.

Anna Merlan at Mother Jones:
In recent days, a number of news sites that rely heavily on aggregation have posted stories about Minnesota governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, reporting “allegations” that he sexually assaulted a minor while working as a teacher and football coach. The clearly false claims stem from the prolific work of one man, a Twitter conspiracy peddler who goes by Black Insurrectionist. After previously pushing a lie about a presidential debate “whistleblower,” he’s at it again, and even his clownish mistakes haven’t kept the claims from taking off on Twitter, or being promoted by automated sections of the news ecosystem. Black Insurrectionist, who tweets under the handle @docnetyoutube, is a self-professed MAGA fan who says he’s based in Dallas. He’s paid for his Twitter account, meaning his visibility is boosted on the site; he’s also followed by a number of people in the MAGA and right-leaning fake news spheres, including Donald Trump Jr., dirty tricks specialist and Trump adviser Roger Stone, Pizzagate promoter Liz Crokin, and conspiracy kingpin Alex Jones.
In September, he promoted an obviously fake story about a “whistleblower” at ABC News anonymously claiming the presidential debate hosted by the channel had been biased in favor of Kamala Harris. To back up the claims, he published a purported affidavit by the whistleblower, a poorly formatted and typo-riddled document that, among other things, claimed that Harris had been assured she wouldn’t be questioned about her time as “Attorney General in San Francisco,” a job she never held, as it doesn’t exist. The clumsy story still received immense pickup, including from hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman, who began tweeting at various entities to investigate the claim; Elon Musk also shared some of Ackman’s posts.
Black Insurrectionist (aka “DocNetyoutube”), a fake news-peddling far-right conspiracy theorist X account, was the culprit behind the lurid lie about Kamala Harris VP pick Tim Walz by falsely accusing him of “sexual assault.”

Hi! I grew up in the dfw area, and I’m here rn to spend the holidays with my family. The dallas zoo is my local zoo, and I think maybe I can help clarify something? The zoo officials were emphasizing that nova wasn’t dangerous bc people here in dfw have a lot of guns, and there was a real concern that people would hear about what was happening on the news, picture a massive leopard stalking the streets and eating children, and start vigilanting with their shotguns and handguns in order to ‘protect their property’. the zoo staff were focusing on looking for her in the zoo grounds itself but a lot of the news was focusing on keeping people from panicking.
Yup, that's absolutely what was going on! I know so many people were worried that someone would go try to hunt her for fun or "protection".
But that's not what they said. For instance, an article quoting the VP of Animal Care stat "clouded leopards are dramatically different animals from other leopards. They are much smaller, weigh about 30 pounds and pose no danger to people.” That's not "there's no danger to people in this instance." And while it may seem like splitting hairs, it still matters because this is an animal that is managed like a dangerous animal, that was literally just listed in a federal bill as being a dangerous animal, etc. Just because they're skittish and likely to avoid people doesn't mean they aren't potentially dangerous if you do end up in a close scenario with one.
Yeah, in crisis communications you can't get into all the details, and I know that. But it still perpetuates misinformation. I mostly mentioned it because I'm spicy about the BCPSA and I got snarky whiplash seeing an AZA institution swap messaging so quickly.
It was good that they made clear she wasn't going to be hunting people or doing anything dangerous to the surrounding community. I just wish they'd been a little more specific, because I've already found at least one video from an exotic pet Youtube channel entitled something like "Dallas Zoo admits clouded leopards aren't dangerous." Clarifying misinformation after it spreads is really dang hard.

ᴏᴄꜱ - ᴛʜᴇɴ & ɴᴏᴡ
Saw a buncha chooms doin this lil trend and remembered that I had an old draft doing this very thing! Spiffied it up with even newer shots of my babes and it really makes me realize how far both me and my OCs have come :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
March 25, 2022 || June 24, 2023
The shot on the left is legit my very first oc shot in cyberpunk. Id taken some landscape shots before this but this was where the blorbo brainrot started. Vons definitely come the farthest in terms of design, from big beefy maelstrom to like.. wet rat white boy energy I guess lol. She still got a long way to go though, probably gonna be working on her forever, she's my favorite little passion project😌
Tumblr media Tumblr media
June 2, 2022 || June 2, 2023
Didn't even realize these were exactly a year apart till I checked the dates!
Luis is basically the exact same as when I first made him, just the perfect design from the moment of creation😌He's the OC that really started my VP journey, I made him just to take pretty pictures of and learn the ropes. Glad I finally have the skills to show off his full beauty!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
September 12, 2022 || June 14, 2023
Lynk's design is one that feels both entirely different and very much the same to me. Same overall vibe and style, but more refined I suppose. Less scrungly mess of wires and more sleek and sharp borg. Really love their current design now, still wanna make 'em custom tattoos but it gonna be a while till i'm at that modding level!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
December 12, 2022 || June 1, 2023
Dallas was a design first backstory second kinda OC. I love her old design, think all the cyberware and makeup are really cool, but as I fleshed her out it just wasn't Dallas. Found myself in a comfy spot with her now though, even ended up making her her own custom complexion!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
December 5, 2022 || July 9, 2023
Technically there's an even farther back design I could use for Sunny but it's so different I can't even consider it him. His old design looks so similar yet so very different its kinda weird😅Sunny's design now is probably the one I'm most content with, I might try and add back his arm tattoos but until then he's pretty much perfect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
December 8, 2022 || April 23, 2023
When I first made Midas my main goal was a dark moody playboy, which definitely stayed the same just in a radically different way. His OG personality was a playful and dramatic womanizer which I loved but I needed a straight man in this group of idiots and he had to be it. So instead he became a mysterious and gruff guy that has ladies falling over him whether he likes it or not, also he's a vampire now.

Kamala Harris is within the margin for error in Texas.
Read that again. Texas might become a swing state this election cycle. Texas has hinted about going blue due to influx of people from other places moving to Dallas and Austin.
Trump 53.3% to Harris 46.6% with a margin of error of 4.9. The difference is within the margin of error…in Texas!
Trump is on the decline. His campaign is falling apart from his ridiculous VP choice to his bizarre rantings at his Hitler rallies. He’s a horrible candidate and is coming apart at the seams.
These are good tidings. I hope her campaign spends more money in Texas. We Texas leftists need a win and this would be the perfect time.
Cruz is primed for defeat as well.
No Harris is not the perfect candidate but her VP candidate Tim Walz is the real deal—progressive at that high of a position is remarkable. Keep fighting the good fight.

Week end col morto

Can Trump run for President?
The U.S. Constitution only lists three necessary qualifications for being president: the candidate must be a "natural born" citizen, at least 35 years old and a resident of U.S. for at least 14 years. There is no requirement that the president not be a convicted felon.
Can Trump pick a VP from Florida?
Article II of the US Constitution states: “The electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.”
For Trump to pick a VP from Florida (Rubio, DeSantis) then the VP candidate would have to establish residency in another state.
When Texas Gov. George W. Bush chose Dick Cheney as his running mate on the Republican ticket, Cheney had been living and voting and paying taxes for five years in Texas. Shortly before the election, however, Cheney obtained a Wyoming driver’s license and put his Dallas home on the market. (He had a vacation home in Wyoming, which is the state he had formerly represented in the U.S. Congress.)

oltre Norimberga
Giorgio Agamben -Homo sacer
