crack game theory: these two are the same person in different universes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i mean like. lookat em. they're both so similar to each other. the flower motif, the messing with ancient magic (Everfree's magic and the nightmare fuel magic of The Constant), the evil ruler monster transformation that brings incredible power to both Gloriosa and Charlie including the ability to manipulate nature... in the Legend of Everfree Movie, Timber Spruce tells a story of an ancient spirit who is basically the guardian of the forest of Everfree named Gaea, who is first seen emerging from the darkess with nothing but two glowing eyes being visible, and Gloriosa later scares everyone when she walks towards the campfire in a similar way (which is foreshadowing for her later role as a villain). in the 'A New Reign' cinematic for Don't Starve Together, Charlie emerges from the shadows just like Gloriosa, with her eyes being the first visible thing to appear from the darkness. and like... she's literally the thing that kills you in the darkness. conclusion: Gloriosa is Charlie's mlpsona /j

@voxola-radio
The Crocommander was perched at the edge of a pond, spear held aloft and ready to spear any creature foolish enough to swim up to the surface. She had been sitting like this for upwards of an hour now. Some might say this was an example of her unwavering resolve and discipline, others her foolishness and incapability to back off from a bad idea.
Either way, Wikitora had been too absorbed in her pursuit for a meal to notice the gathering storm until it was nearly upon her. Wind cut a chill through her hide, and thunder rolled up above. At this point she hissed at no one in particular and put her spear away, preparing to leave and find shelter before the inevitable deluge; she hated many things about this realm, but rain was by far one of her strongest hates.
How caught off-guard she was, then, when she was suddenly engulfed instead by an unrelenting swarm of... something she couldn't really describe. There was blue all around her, and her skin tingled uncomfortably under her scales.

My personal speculation and ideas after watching the Wagstaff short:
I wonder if Wagstaff's passion for inventing and science really kicked off here? It would make sense. He was a snake-oil salesman, goes to the scene of a disaster to do some pick-pocketing, and stumbles upon something supernatural.
Wagstaff's radio is specifically noted for its exceptional quality of reception and such. Considering it is related to three different people (Winona, Wilson, Walter) entering the Constant, I wouldn't be surprised if even the initial making of the Voxola was for that purpose. The projection he had from the film he found in the theatre wasn't too strong- perhaps he wanted to develop better ways of access?
While I did always imagine Wilson living in New England (Massachusetts specifically), especially considering he is implied to be an immigrant from Europe, I wouldn't be too surprised if he actually lived in northern California or somewhere like that. Those damn pine trees... Either that, or Wagstaff moved across the country somewhere along the line for an unclear reason.
I don't exactly blame Wagstaff for not being able to help the man under the rubble, but I feel like the situation shifted from a lack of ability to help to a lack of desire when he decided to just take the projector and ditch. Especially considering how he stole from other people as well. (Where did he hide that cane??)
I wonder if Wagstaff knew of or had spoken with either Charlie or Maxwell? Now that we know they were in the same area, there's a chance they had interacted prior to the Constant. He was already arriving to the location before the earthquake started, which might lend credence to the idea, but that could also be him simply looking for an opportunity to do some theft after people leave the show.

What do you think will happen when all the survivors return home? And Wilson and Webber what will happen to them?
There are many possibilities but I have 2 in mind
LOOOOONG POST
Scenario Number 1
They escape and are transported to Wilson's house since there's the door he built The idea of going separate ways after an eternity working together is. . . Odd and most of them are just not normal anymore, so they build around the area and create a community only for them. Not like Wilson lives near enough society for anyone to notice the weirdos living outside
Wendy goes back with her father tho and they visit every time they can, maybe even move closer. After all, they're all family
Tumblr media
(Don't pay attention to the perspective, don't pay attention to the proportions. Just DON'T pay too much attention to the picture, ok? I like how they're all looking at the door like "so that's THE DOOR" Yeah they've probably seen Maxwell's door before but this is THE DOOR, yk?. Also, only 2)? of them were captured through one of those so it must be interesting to look at)
(I say only 2 of them (WX and Winona through Wagstaff's door/portal) because, even tho Wilson build the Door, he was captured through the ground, not the door, like, why even build it? Was it needed to begin with? Is it that there needs to be an active "door" for Maxwell (or Them) to capture people?)
Scenario Number 2 Or "bad ending", if you will
They all go back to the places they were sucked in (Or the nearest place possible since, you know. . . Wicker's library and the Voxola factory. . . )
Wilson is back home, finally free from the place he was tricked more than once, from having to fight for your life every second, from Them who trapped him for who knows how long he's finally free. . . and alone
Tumblr media
He lost the family he gained, he choose and loved. Constantly thinking in the poor Monster child. . . HIS child
Weeell that was long enough hahsashaha Hope you enjoyed all that broken english and nonsensical ideas!
For the record, this isn't the first time I've drawn ALL the characters (All the not-DLC Characters (It is my first time drawing Wanda)) Wurt, Wortox and Woodworm are not there cuz they belong to the Constant.
Abigail? Always by Wendy's side <3
Charlie? Consumed by the shadows/Them?
Wagstaff? Somewhere else as always
Wallani, Warbucks etc. ? I don't know, they're not part of DST so. . . I don't care lmao!!
The Codex Umbra? Maxwell has it. . . ~🍪

by far one of my favorite don't starve lore fuck-ups is the fact that winona got a new job in ohio, which was heavily implied to be the reason she was at the voxola factory in the first place, YEARS BEFORE THE VOXOLA FACTORY WAS EVEN FOUNDED

Note
Tell us about the crazy don't starve takes then
TAKE ONE: Wagstaff actually has MANY creatures from the constant hidden away in his lab. MULTIPLE. A lot of them are dead, but the carcasses are still valuable resources. That spider who ate webber got the easy way out, if anything.
TAKE TWO: Wortox is color blind. He’s got Tritanopia, to be more specific: cannot tell the difference between purple & red, pink & yellow, and blue & green. The only reason he knows the exact color of his fur is because of his mama.
TAKE THREE: Genny ends up adopting Wickerbottom’s old cat after finding it roaming about the library’s rubble.
TAKE FOUR: The pigs are actually well-versed in necromancy, hence the reckless rushing into battle and the touchstones.
TAKE FIVE: The pig king is Wilba’s dad. He and Queen Malfalfa got a divorce waaayy back and he ran off to start his own kingdom with his own people; most of which were also affected by the werepig curse.
TAKE SIX: Excessive use of shadow magic makes Maxwell physically sick as well as lowering his sanity. Coming back to his senses after summoning multiple shadow duelists or helpers can— and often does— cause him to vomit.
TAKE SEVEN: On the topic of Maxwell using shadow magic: it’s far from pretty. Nightmare fuel seeps out from his eyes, nose, and mouth.
TAKE EIGHT: Wormwood’s speech patterns are a result in him not being fluent in English. As Alter’s kin, his mother tongue happens to be the language spoken by the ancient civilization.
TAKE NINE: One of Them happens to be everything all at once, a physical form that constantly shifts and morphs so quickly that it can barely be considered physical at all. For one second it’s nothing more than a frog, the next it’s a shadow weaver, and then for just a moment it’ll be the worst version of yourself.
TAKE TEN: The Charlie that actually sits upon the throne is barely intact. Shadows hold her rotting bones together and pure horror seeps out from her slack jaw. The more power she displays as queen, the more her human body wilts.
TAKE ELEVEN: Since Maxwell never had control over every layer of the constant, whatever the Krampii are up to has been unbeknownst to him for ages. All he knows is that their bags have wormhole properties and that unnerves him a bit.
TAKE TWELVE: Willow is Wickerbottom’s granddaughter. Becoming a mother herself at nineteen, Wicker’s relationship with her own daughter was somewhat strained, and they lost contact the second said daughter was old enough to run off on her own. Neither Willow nor Wickerbottom are aware of their shared blood until way later down the line.
TAKE THIRTEEN: If Wanda crosses her eyes, her double vision gives her a fuzzy glance into a mirroring timeline. Doing this gives her awful migraines, though.
TAKE FOURTEEN: Wheeler and Wolfgang end up becoming super good friends! Not only are they training buddies, but Wheeler also helps Wolfgang with his bravery.
TAKE FIFTEEN: Wilba and Wurt overcome their prejudices by bonding over how inaccurately Mermio and Pigliet portrayed their respective peoples. They end up rewriting the book together.
TAKE SIXTEEN: Jack, Wendy&Abigail’s mom, and Genny end up becoming close friends. They work together trying to expose Voxola as corrupt.
TAKE SEVENTEEN: Woodlegs has been in the Constant for so long that he’s forgotten he was ever on Earth to begin with.
TAKE EIGHTEEN: Wilbur actually knows a fair amount about the Constant’s history, including tidbits about the ancient civilization as well as the mythology of Them. Unfortunately, no one can understand what he’s saying, so it’s not like he can share any of it.
TAKE NINETEEN: Walter has a younger brother named Theodore. He still sends the pine-tree pioneers letters asking if they’ve managed to find Walter.
TAKE TWENTY: Lucy is Woodie’s wife who died by getting crushed by a tree. She haunts his axe specifically since it was a gift she gave him on one of their anniversaries.
TAKE TWENTY-ONE: Speaking of, Woodie isn’t even sure where his curse originates from. It’s an age-old family tale. All he knows is that the Constant’s magic levels have made it significantly worse.
TAKE TWENTY-TWO: Wes was actually there for the whole portal building thing Maxwell and Wilson did pre-dst. Wilson freed him from that invisible box, it’s not like he had anywhere better to run off to. He didn’t necessarily help build any of it, though, he was just there for moral support.
TAKE TWENTY-THREE: The way Wendy calls upon Abigail isn’t quite as dainty as portrayed in game. She carries a little purse around with her that has all of the requirements for this to be successful; which includes a ritual knife and Abigail’s ashes. Using her own blood and the remnants of her sister, Wendy can summon Abigail out from the flower she possesses.
TAKE TWENTY-FOUR: Wanda’s ageless watch explodes when she dies. Lol. And instead of leaving behind a skeleton, she leaves behind this weird static called life essence. It’s required that you preserve it if you want to be able to resurrect her.
TAKE TWENTY-FIVE: Maxwell’s parents wanted him to be a lawyer. Jack was the only one who supported the idea of him being a magician. Tough!
TAKE TWENTY-SIX: Wormwood is half tree guard. That’s why he’s so ffffucking tall. The gem Alter sent down to the Constant’s surface took control over a dead tree guard and then suddenly the city of Hamlet had a new royal gardener. Life is so silly!
TAKE TWENTY-SEVEN: Wigfrid’s real name is Anita and is actually a child prodigy. She absorbs herself in her role for a sense of purpose because acting is all she’s ever known.
TAKE TWENTY-EIGHT: Wilson is Wagstaff’s nephew 👎
TAKE TWENTY-NINE: Klaus absolutely despises mortal beings because they took his eyes. Bwaaamp 🎺

omg i would absolutley love to hear more about walenty if u still feel like talking!! i hold dst so close in my heart so seeing other people make ocs for it makez me so happy!!! how did he get to the constant? n like what was his life like before then? or has he alwayz lived there :0!! -plushpyro
this got super out of hand so i'm putting it under readmore. um teehee ^__^
UM!!! don't know where to start i could talk for HOURS probably but ok. maybe i'll start with the backstory. my idea for it is that basically he got into the constant via an antique voxola radio he found on a garage sale somewhere. it had a tag with an adress on it and being a teen he was like hey. hey let me go there that'd be funny. i think she originally planned to go with someone but ended up going alone, the other person got sick whatever. enter the nightmare hands and she's never seen again. (<i'm not superrr happy with that backstory but i can't think of anything better so. blehhh XP) before that kit was just a highschooler, her family was alright, life was okay etc etc. nothing special but also nothing bad. although kit was probably more like. shy and more of a loner. forgot to mention but he's also more "modern", i don't know if it would actually work in-game lore-wise but it probably got send to the constant like, 2018 the latest (which i should probably utilize more in my art tbh). he's also polish. i probably haven't mentioned that anywhere either. onto other things after getting to the constant it probably wanders around alone for a bit before finding the other survivors. top 10 happiest moments of its life etc etc. kind of interrupting the current flow but it also has the ability to turn into a werething, which is unique because it is by that affiliated with both the moon and the shadows but also both sides kind of hate her anyways lol. being werething doesn't give it any super like. powers it can just turn into a wolf-bear creature during full moons and where it is in grave danger. that's also why it has those funny features like animal ears, a tail and horns (speaking of! i always thought of the horns as something like a non-newtonian fluid in a sense that if you don't use force when interacting with them your hand would go through or they would bend out of shape before returning to how they were before, but if it were to ram into someone it would probably hurt, not like walenty would do that). its eyesight is still dogshit without glasses BUT it can probably hear and smell a bit better. ok now maybe onto relationships. i haven't thought about ALL the survivors in detail but i imagine she gets along pretty well with everyone. she used to be pissed off at maxwell for a bit but she got better now maxwell is like his lame ass uncle or whatever. it also has a father-son like relationship with wilson and they probably talk about science together, they're into different fields i imagine (walenty is more of an astronomy guy but he'll try to remember what he learnt in physics for higgsbury if he asks). either way they're silly together they make me very happy :]. she also feels like an older sibling figure to the other kids since she's like 16 and #responsible. also friends with woodie they go ice fishing together and they're both were(insert animal here). AND WITH WOLFGANG. he's also friends with him i think they're slavic besties :3. ok now that we have friendships out of the way he and WX fight all the fucking time. they hate eachother sooo much <not really they just get on eachother's nerves and who's there to stop them from throwing rocks at eachother. walenty probably pushed wx into a lake once and then felt genuinely bad until they threw her in the lake back and oh buddy it's on. <they both refuse to be the bigger person basically. the only instance in which they'll work together is if webber asks them. i would say more but i hit the character limit </3

wigfrid wednesday in my brain. something i tend to think about a lot when it comes to maxwell and his abductions is that it seems as though most of them are very purposeful. and the more of them we see, the more this proves to hold true.
wilson is probably one of the only people with the tools and the lack of disregard or fear to build to portal he built in the first place. wickerbottom was put into a situation by maxwell to force her into making a choice under the assumption it was her own free will. wes. ok well wes was an accident but maxwell was purposefully trying to drag somebody in, so the point still stands.
the voxola products and who does or doesn't have them may throw some randomization into the mix, but it really seems like maxwell knows exactly what he wants, and he'll stoop to nearly anything to get it.
which raises the question: what the hell did he want or need wigfrid for? for seemingly being one of the FIRST survivors to enter the constant, she seems like the most bizarre and unnecessary choice. but everything he does points to him wanting her specifically.
the only other time we canonically know that he revealed a shadow of himself was when he was convincing wickerbottom to take his offer. but its very obvious- with how much she knows and is capable of- why he would want her inside of his little universe. for how useful wilson was and proved himself to be (being the ONLY survivor who ended up ultimately rescuing him), he didn't get the privilege of seeing max's 'physical form'.
AND. if we're to believe maxwell fabricated/exaggerated the news to put her in a more vulnerable mental state, then who knows HOW much time and effort he invested playing the long con. but like?? for what? what the hell did he see in her maddening fall from grace that made her such an essential asset to him?

DUUUUUUDE OH MY FUCKING GOD
I’VE GOT SOME SPECULATIONS ON THIS SHIT
//WILSON SHORT SPOILERS!! WATCH THE SHORT FIRST!!!!//
Tumblr media
Wilson’s house, I’m assuming, used to be Wagstaff’s, based on how there was already science equipment when Wilson entered the attic.
Tumblr media
There was also a Voxola Radio here, further proving the place used to belong to Wagstaff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now hold on
WHAT THE FUCK????
It seems that Wagstaff both is and isn’t in the Constant. But how? This is my idea:
He made a hologram of himself, said hologram being the same one Winona saw get sucked into the portal.
Wagstaff is also using Wilson’s portal to look into the Constant.
Another thing. About Wilson’s shack:
Again, I’m assuming the shack used to belong to Wagstaff, but when the Voxola Factory fire happened, he was eventually presumed dead and the shack was put up for sale. Wilson buys it and stays there until he gets sent to the Constant. After that, the real Wagstaff goes back to the shack and, unbeknownst to the public, reclaims it and uses Wilson’s portal to keep watch of his hologram, and maybe even study the Constant from Earth.
That’s all I think.
Wilson’s new skin looks cool too. Saw it on Twitter :)

So I keep seeing people say that Wagstaff was pulled into the Constant in the Winona Short but??? Do we know for SURE that was even Wagstaff? It didn't share his silhouette, it was intentionally obscured, and it feels like the only connection we have on that is the yellow gloves, but it also looked like everyone at the Voxola factory was wearing those gloves.
Compounded with the fact that Wagstaff in-game is a "grainy transmission" and that there's someone clearly at Wilson's house during Interference, it doesn't seem like Wagstaff is in the Constant at all.
Or, if he WAS at one point ("Next of Kin") he no longer is ("Interference").
Which means there's a viable way out.

So I decided to make a design for Winter Pre-Traumtic Experience
Tumblr media
They and Woodrow were coworkers, while not directly involve with WX-78's creation they were at least aware of it. Winter had developed different audio equipment for Voxola, while being a small musician on the side.
While working with Woodrow, the two eventually became very close until the day of WX-78's buildday. They knew very much of Woodrow's intentions, and as they didn't like the idea of their partner putting themself in a robotic body, Winter remained supportive of their decision.
It was only afterwards is what sent Winter over the edge, walking into the lab one afternoon finding everything involving WX-78 destroyed or missing and only the corpse of their beloved slumped over.
They were not informed what happened, they didn't want to find out. They wanted to get the image of finding Woodrow's body out of their head completely. Voxola became a constant reminder, and they only found comfort in music...
