These pictures don't do justice to how tall these sunflowers are.
Close to 5 m in height, maybe I'll measure them when I cut them down at the end of the season.
Most of my other sunflowers have bloomed already, but the ones in this little patch just keep growing taller.

literally where was all this talk about community and community activism you expect everyone to already be involved in before last night lmaoooo
#i have hand me downs from my neighbors extended family lmao dont lecture me on community#but like. yeah ive volunteered at foodbanks and community gardens and college encampments because my parents raised me to do so.#however my parents have been more vocal about it than ive seen from this entire site in the past few years#of course community is the new tumblr buzzword and half the posts are so vague they say nothing#maybe if you want people to be community volunteering rn you shouldve. vocally pushed for this before last night

Logging out for a while, love you miss you <3
#idk when I'll be back on#I think maybe end of the month to test the waters but we'll see#someone was having a bad day and decided to take it out in my inbox last night#and then when I logged off they got mad I didn't answer and sent a few more 🤪#usually I'm pretty good at rationalizing these things. gen z feels like the only place they have power is on the internet so of course when#they're angry and scared they're going to come after the people that they can actually reach#(and that includes me; proud owner of an anime thirst blog with 6 followers <3)#what they need is a hug and a copy of the anarchist protest guide and maybe a community garden; not someone responding to them with more#anger#but as I stated. I'm exhausted.#anyway. this is all to say#if you're feeling so much kinetic energy from rage that you feel the best way to get rid of it is to yell at some rando on the internet#use that energy to do something productive#sign up for a protest; volunteer at your local soup kitchen; teach crafts at the library.#a lot of people need a lot of help right now; why waste time shouting into the void when you could be doing something with genuine impact#the world needs helpers more than ever#if you made it this far thank u I love you; and stay safe out there cowboys 💞

I don’t actually have a modern au but I’ve been having so many thoughts about modern d’alia lately lmao
#d’alia studies applied geometry and environmental science with plans for grad school too#(she’s torn between cartography and field environmental engineering as a career)#also tutors on the side and volunteers with the city’s gardens and fisheries#always has a busy schedule but makes time for her friends whether a post-breakup brunch or helping them move across town#or dropping off baked goods on their doorstep out of the blue#lives with her bf koana who was an exchange student she met in one of her engineering-esque classes#they’re usually pretty private but they throw a banger halloween party each year#koana has a fancy espresso machine and got d’alia into coffee with cinnamon#d’alia also has a vintage typewriter where she writes cute lil love notes#regularly ‘borrows’ koana’s leather jacket too#and obsessively crossbreeds flowers in animal crossing as the one video game she plays#oh and rides a motorcycle.#dani.txt#alia/koana

October 2024: It's That Time Of Year
We got our Harris Walz sign over the weekend:
Then October the First happened:
Our volunteer pumpkins. They turned out to be mini-pumpkins & the one on the right should have been picked sooner (It is a bit mushy) but still cool:
The fungal infection that damaged our front lawn created this happy accident. For the first time ever, this skeleton has a hairy chest, happy trail & lush pubes:
Just three girls looking for a little trouble... possibly toiling:

For a few reasons, I wasn't going to grow tomatoes this year.
Then I added some compost to a few beds to help refresh them.
Apparently there were many tomato seeds in that compost.
Now I am growing around 200 tomato plants, but not all will survive.
Let the tomato Hunger Games begin!!!

I love you disaster pollinator bed.... this bed has three species of milkweed, fennel, dill, wild yarrow, and mountain mint which have all intermingled and spread nicely. Plus a lonely liatris cultivar which I may move because it is far too civilized and doesn't compete well. The swamp milkweed suffered this year because of the dry spring but the showy and common milkweed and yarrow and mountain mint are huge and thriving. All about to bloom.
Milkweeds are host plants for monarchs, dill and fennel for swallowtails, and yarrow provides a long-blooming nectar source.
#also i found the yarrow as a volunteer while weeding at work and dug it up#now it spits out babies anywhere it pleases#but theyre easily controlled#my plants#garden content#native plants
