He lets out a small, “heh,” and the right side of his lip tilts up. He also gives you a not so sorry, “sorry baby,” to ease the current frown on your face.

It doesn’t do much, you know he’s not really sorry for prodding at your sore breasts. It’s not his fault! They’re just more tender and soft when you’re on your period. Oh, and the little whiney whimpers and soft gasps of surprise you let out when he sneaks his large, calloused hands underneath your—his—worn out t-shirt to grope and rub at them. Anyways, it’s really hard to get through your period with him. He’s so teasing it’s annoying, all you want to do is sleep and try to relax, but he’s constantly prodding you! Whatever, you were used to his behavior anyways. And he’d never go too far with you unless you wanted to.

“Seriously Toji, it hurts.”

“I know, I know,” he says lifting his hands up in surrender. “Won’t do it again, swear it.” He’s lying.

You drop your glare and turn back around to finish preparing your chamomile tea, you just needed to pour the hot water from the kettle into your favorite mug and add some honey.

However when you reach your arm to turn off the stove eye a sharp pain pierces through your lower abdomen. You step back and wince while grabbing your stomach. Your face contorts to an expression mixed with discomfort and a tinge of pain.

Toji watches for a short moment. He knows about the cramps you get, and he’s heard you complain about them but he’s never seen you react like this. It must’ve been really bad this time, and Toji thinks he doesn’t like that. No, he knows.

He snaps out of it and makes quick work of turning off the stove and then lifting you, gently, off the floor to head towards the living room. You’re too drained from the cramp to even resist.

“What r’you doin’ Toji? Don’t walk so fast s’makin me kinda nauseous.”

“Yeah yeah, y’baby,” he says that last part quietly while laying you down on the couch.

“Why’re you laying me down I-“

“Y’need to rest, I’ll finish makin your tea. Then w’can sleep-“

“Cuddle,” you correct him.

“Sure cuddle whatever y’wanna call it,” he says stalking off back into the kitchen.

“I want tummy rubs too!” You shout after him.

He just scoffs in reply. You’re bossy today huh? It’s fine he doesn’t mind doing what you ask of him for today, he guesses. When he returns with your tea you’re eager to have the warm mug in your hands and you sit up as he hands it to you.

“Mmmh,” you hum inhaling the scent of the chamomile. Toji makes good tea, you should’ve asked him to make it from the start. Whatever, you will tomorrow.

“S’hot, be carful,” he says while sitting next to you.

“Mhmm,” your reply blowing on it.

He grabs the remote and flicks on some old anime re-run and turns the volume down almost all the way. He goes to your shared room to grab you a blanket and when he returns you’re already splayed out on the couch, half-drunken tea abandoned on the table.

“Ooouu! You got me a blanket,” you happily chirp, “c’mere,” you say patting the space behind you.

The couch was definitely small for both you and Toji to fit on it, but that’s why you liked it. The closeness, the warmth, it was nice. You readily grab the blanket from his hands so he can lay with you.

“Startin to think you want the blanket t’lay with ya more than me,” he chaffs.

“Of course not!” You giggle out.

Toji carefully climbs behind you and settles in. He pulls your body so that you’re snug against his chest, well, more snug than you already were.

You close your eyes, you could almost immediately fall asleep. Almost. There’s a dull ache that still resides in your stomach though.

“Tummy rubs,” you chide at Toji as a reminder.

“D’worry, I didn’t f’get yre rubs,” he replies almost asleep himself.

His large warming hands make their way under your shirt once again, this time for a more moral purpose than fulfilling his own desires, and they glide down to your sore stomach.

It feels so much better already, the heated pressure really helps ease the pains. He slowly kneads and rubs the delicate skin of your tummy as you drift off to sleep…

・❥・ Okay so you’re kind of freaking out right now. You’re over Kento’s apartment for your bread baking date, cute right? Yeah, except for the fact that your period just came! All you wanted to do was go to the bathroom and then wipe the flour off of your face but when you went to pull your underwear down, you couldn’t help but notice the splotch of dark red on them. Great! Just great.

You knew your period was coming sometime in the next two weeks since your tracker alerted you, but you didn’t think it would be today! It didn’t even cross your mind to pack your period supplies in your purse before you left. Now what would you do?

You could momentarily leave to go buy some but then you’d miss the bread coming out of the oven, and you might get blood on your clothes or your car. So probably not that option. You could have some delivered to his apartment, but that could take ages. Your last option is just to tell Kento, but what could he do about it? He could go to the store and buy you some, knowing him he probably wouldn’t be embarrassed about it like some would, but that would take some time too. However, it would take less than the delivery person, and you couldn’t really complain given the situation, he’s your best bet.

“Kennnn!” You called from his bathroom.

You heard the clang of something, probably the bowls or utilities you guys were using to make the dough hitting the sink, and then footsteps padding down the hallway. You could see, from the crack below the door, the light in the hallway momentarily being blocked by his shadow.

Then, a soft but baritone, “yes?”

“Uhm- could you uh go to the store and buy me some menstrual products? Please?”

“Oh, it started already huh? I swear I thought it was supposed to start next week…maybe I’m off? Maybe it’s irregular this time, I’ll figure it out,” he was mumbling so low to himself you could barely hear him.

“Kento!” You warned, trying to get the man to focus on the situation at hand.

“Ah, yes sorry. They’re in the bottom right cabinet.”

What?

You went to open the cabinet, and surely, the exact menstrual products you use were there. There were even extra pairs of underwear! How did he even know? You’ve talked about your period with him maybe once or twice.

“Oh, Ken this is-“

“What? Are they not the right kind? I thought those were the ones you got. I’m sorry, I’ll go get the correct ones for you. What-“

“No! No need, I was just surprised because this is what I use,” you said cutting him off.

“Well yes you’ve told me before, remember?”

“Yeah but that was like only one time, when I needed you to run and get me some. I didn’t think you’d remember that.”

“Of course, that’s important. I picked extras up that day so that you could have some in case situations like this happen,” he said matter of factly.

“Well…thank you Ken,” you hummed trying to wrap your head around this amazing man you have. “I’ll be out in a minute, you added.”

“No need for thanks, take your time sweetheart.”

And with that he strode back into the kitchen to check on the bread…

You groaned again and scooted even closer trying to go back into your deep sleep. When suddenly Suguru’s hands stopped their rubbing. You internally sighed at that, but whatever, nothing was going to stop you from getting your sleep-

“Y/n baby. I didn’t want to freak you out but you had your period. Some of it got on the sheets and your shorts, but it’s okay we’ll just…”

Except that. You were already having a meltdown in your head, you couldn’t even pay attention to the rest of what he was saying.

You instantly opened your eyes to see Suguru looking at you. At least he seemed to be calm, because you weren’t! Having your period in your boyfriend’s bed?! That’s literally a nightmare! Quite literally the end of the world! And not to mention that it’s on your shorts, and it’s damp and uncomfortable.

On instinct you tried to jump out of the bed, but Suguru already had his arms locked back on you. He knew you were freaked out, but he didn’t want you to be. There was no reason to be, not in his eyes at least.

“Don’t panic about it-“

“Don’t panic about it? Sugu I just had my period, and it got on your sheets! And probably your pajamas too, oh God.”

“Both things that are washable Y/n, it’s okay. ”

“It’s still embarrassing though Sugu,” you explained.

“I know but I don’t want you to be embarrassed. Accidents happen, and it’ll be fine,” he said starting to untangle himself from you.

“Now, let’s get you in the shower. And I’ll change the sheets okay?”

“Fineee,” you agreed.

Suguru got up and went to the bathroom to run your shower water, while you tried to get out of the bed and not smudge the blood anywhere. Then you quickly made your way to the bathroom to find Suguru checking the water temperature for you.

“I think it’s good now.”

You stood there a little awkwardly before he stood up to leave.

“Ah, Suguru,” you said turning to him as he was by the door, “thank you. I-I mean really thank you, for not being so grossed out I guess.”

He smiled, “no need t’thank me y/n. And I could never be grossed out by you, especially not over this,” he said raising a brow.

“Now go ahead and shower, I’ll get you some pajamas and run to the store for some supplies. Let me know if you need anything else okay?”

“Kay!” You said chirpily as he walked out.

Oh! Snacks!

“Oh!! Sugu, some snacks please?” You shouted from the bathroom.

“Wasn’t gonna leave without ‘em!” He voiced back.

You smiled and began undressing to shower. The water was the perfect temperature, it was so relaxing, plus you’d get to use Suguru’s soaps so you’d smell just like him.

When you got out your menstrual supplies were on the counter along with your pajamas, one of Suguru’s crewnecks, a pair of your underwear, that he probably found in the back of one of his drawers, and his sweatpants. Which were going to be a bit big on you, not that you’re tiny or anything, you have curves and full thighs, but Geto? He’s huge, 6’3 and about 200lbs of steel in one, not that you were complaining of course. Plus you’d be practically drowning in his scent now.

“Heh,” he smirked a little when you came out the bathroom. You noticed he’d changed his clothes, and the bed spread.

“What? S’not my fault you’re a giant,” you said rolling your eyes.

“Yeah yeah, c’mere already. You should sleep some more since I interrupted earlier.”

No way you were arguing with that, so you climbed into bed and indulged in Suguru’s pampering you for the rest of the day…

You don’t respond. Just stand silently in your living room, thighs shifting causing your shorts to ride up and heat to gather. You were headed to the kitchen for some water and a snack, but now you’re about to have this conversation with your boyfriend.

“Are you hurt or something? Is it serious?” He says voice increasingly becoming worried.

“No, no, no. Well- I mean yeah.”

“Y/n are you hurt or not?” He flat out asks trying to get you to confess.

“I’m on my period Satoru,” you finally admit.

That’s not what he was expecting.

Satoru has to think in his head what his response should be. He’s kind of hurt? You being on your period isn’t the problem at all, it’s the fact that you didn’t want to tell him. Maybe you were uncomfortable?

“Y’can tell me when you’re on your period baby, m’not squeamish or anythin. I know m’all jokey and stuff, but I know when t’not be.”

You know that. You know Satoru, it’s just a little awkward to bring up at times you know? Even though Satoru didn’t say it, you can tell he’s a little upset that you didn’t tell him.

He’s actually more upset that he didn’t know himself. Don’t worry though, Satoru the strongest never gives up.

“No need to be sorry, I’ll know myself next time!” He says convincingly with a look of determination on his face.

You giggle before resuming your walk back to the kitchen for your snack. You’re glad that conversation was simple.

“Woah woah woah! Don’t y’think you should rest?” Satoru says sliding into the kitchen behind you.

“M’fine, I just wanted to get a snack.”

“So I’ll get it for you, go sit.” He motions his hands shooing you out of the kitchen.

You could get used to this golden treatment. Don’t get it wrong, Satoru always spoils you. But where you’re on your period, it’s different.

You walk back into the living room to sit down, per your boyfriend’s instructions. And a moment later he comes walking in with some snacks from your pantry and water. (He totally googled what’s good for women on their period before coming back.)

“Well look at youuu, being all gentlemanly,” you joked.

“I always am, to you, thank you very much,” he grinned.

Satoru hands you the water and sets your snacks on the table before joining you on the couch. He lifts your legs onto his lap, causing you to shift to a laying down position, and begins massaging your feet.

“I’m quite enjoying this, what’s next? Y’gonna go to the store and buy me menstrual products?” You snorted imagining Satoru crouched down in the middle of the aisle searching for your products.

“What’s s’funny about that? I could, y’need me to?”

“Was just kidding ‘toru, you don’t need to do that. I’ll get some later, I still have a few left anyways.”

“I’ll go right now,” he said setting your legs, gently, behind him and standing.

He can’t be serious.

Oh he was serious, before you could even mutter out a “s’really fine ‘toru,” he was already gone. Not even ten minutes later he FaceTimed you from the store and you answered to hear the infamous line,

He can’t help himself at that and pulls you in for a warm hug. He’s squeezing you so tight you might burst.

“Oh, sorry!” He says removing his arms and bringing his hand to scratch the nape of his neck.

You defeatedly sigh, you just can’t get enough of him. He’s too cute!!

You swear Gojo’s ways are rubbing off on him. But it’s fine, you’ll let him get away with it, for now.

“Okay Yuuji,” you give in.

“Oh!! Is there anything I can help you with today? I know you said your headaches make it kinda hard.”

“Uhmm, I need to buy some groceries today. The fridge is kinda empty ‘cause I haven’t been in a while..probably some other small errands. But I think that’s it..” you trialed off thinking of what else you had to do today.

“Okay, I’ll go with you!” He chirped.

That was the best grocery store trip of your life! You honestly don’t know why you’ve never been grocery shopping with Yuuji before. He was really helpful, like always. Grabbing things from super high shelves, running around to find what you needed, he was your personal little helper. You ran the other mundane errands and then decided to stop at a cafe before heading back.

“This cafe is so cute Yuu! Where’d you find it?”

“Gojo-sensei recommended it to me, he said they have really good kikufuku here!”

Bless Gojo and his sweet tooth, they did lead you to this amazing cafe date with your boyfriend after all.

You just smiled in reply. You and Yuuji chatted some about the mission he’d just come back from, how your past couple of days had been, what you would do tomorrow. And yeah, you think to youself, it’s way better with Yuuji here…

Ashmute: Well, this feels like the Korean Lana del Ray, and I've never been a fan if Lana del Ray. So that self explanatory right? I personally didn't like the song. Not because of any other reason than the fact that it isn't my style 🤷‍♀️ If I would pick a favorite part. I would say the part where she sings "Even dreams seem so lonely" because the volume? of her voice was pretty~~ (I dunno if volume is the right word)..

Hyukoh: I def liked this more than the one before it!!! Ive heard Paul and Tomboy before from this artist. And even tho it wouldnt be my favorite type of music. I really appreciate the unique artistry in his music. You can def HEAR it's him singing whatever sing it is. He has his own color!! I liked the first part of this song...the one in Korean. Well mostly bcz i found it funny that I could bearly make out what he was saying in Korean 😂😂 slight recommendation from me: Watch Jay Kim dance to Hyukoh's songs!!!

B.A.P: Ive always wanted to watch something from bap!!! Omg I found it so interesting that they used the same beat but with different instruments for the different scenes. Gasp!! Thats so clever! Also the fact that yknow normally there is build-up and then you get the drop to the chorus thats supposed to be the most catchy part. But this song has the chorus at the very start??? And then when it dropped later on to the chorus again...I shockingly enough didnt get bored? It was still exciting even though we heard the chorus at the very start. Masters of good beats 👌👌👌

My favorite part is prbs the rap at 0:40 because how the same beat is used in the intro and the rap...but just with different instruments really got me there. Also that rap has such a unique element in comparison to the rest of the song and MV. I obvi absolutely loved the chorus too!!!~

Jade’s journey

WITH A CAREER SPANNING TV, THEATRE AND FILM, ACTOR AND POET JADE ANOUKA CAN TURN HER HAND TO ANYTHING.

She talks about filming with Idris Elba, her one-woman show Heart and how she took hundreds of local youngsters for a night out at Peckhamplex

Some people just seem made for storytelling, and the magnetic Jade Anouka – equal parts actor and poet – is most definitely one of them.

Now living in Camberwell – near her favourite brunch spot, Kurdish cafe Nandine on Vestry Road – Jade grew up in Bexley, later moving out to Dartford. She kept up her local connections though, going to secondary school in Lewisham, and it was here in south-east London she had her first proper break in acting.

Inspired by Saturday drama classes, a 17-year-old Jade entered a competition in the local paper and landed a week-long workshop at Greenwich Theatre. It ended with a production of the musical Golden Boy, alongside Olivier-nominated Jason Pennycooke – now in hit West End show Hamilton – and Sally Ann Triplett, whom Jade describes as a “musical theatre legend”.

“I was actually doing a project on her at school when I went to Greenwich Theatre,” she says. “Whenever I was in a play I enjoyed it so much, it would become my world. My parents could see it too, before I even knew I could do it as a job. I just loved it.”

It was a love she grabbed with both hands. Jade headed to the National Youth Theatre on a scholarship and then on to university, to Guildford School of Acting.

“It was a bit of a culture shock,” she remembers. “There were lots of people there who knew the whole ‘acting world’, they knew people’s names, they knew playwrights – and I didn’t know anything. I just liked messing about on stage.

“There were people there whose worlds were so different, who’d had totally different upbringings to me. So that was a bit of a shock. But I made mates for life, friends from different worlds, which is really good but also from the point of view of an actor – to be able to empathise and not be closed into your own world. It was amazing to meet an array of people and make friends.”

Despite once being told by her voice teacher she would “never do Shakespeare – I got completely slated for my voice”, Jade was hired immediately after graduating in 2007 by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, where she not only landed a spot in an internationally touring play but earned a postgraduate award in teaching Shakespeare.

She was hired by the RSC for a role in The Penelopiad, Margaret Atwood’s twist on Homer’s epic The Iliad, focusing on a group of women who make just a brief appearance in his original. The all-female cast took the production to Atwood’s home country of Canada, where she came to see it, setting Jade up for a 14-month stint with the company.

Since then, she has taken the worlds of both stage and screen by storm – picking up numerous awards and accolades. In 2011, she received a commendation at the Ian Charleson Awards for her performance as Ophelia in Hamlet at the Globe, and in 2014 she won the Stage Award for Acting Excellence for her one-woman show at the Edinburgh Fringe. She was also named among InStyle’s Bafta breakout stars for 2018.

A woman of many talents, Jade has landed television roles in Doctor Who, Chewing Gum, Stan Lee’s Lucky Man and Trauma. Earlier this year she appeared alongside Sheridan Smith in Cleaning Up, a six-part drama on ITV.

Her most recent adventure in television is alongside megastar Idris Elba in his Netflix comedy series Turn Up Charlie, based in London and Ibiza, in which he plays a down-on-his-luck DJ, while Jade is Tommi – a slick, successful sound engineer.

“That was so much fun, I’ve never worked so long on a comedy before. I’d done a bit on Chewing Gum but nothing like this,” she smiles. “And he [Elba] created such a great vibe on set, because he was producing it too. I loved the cast – Piper Perabo [of Coyote Ugly fame] is great, she’s so cool. We went to Ibiza to film too – I got the jammiest deal.

“Idris is great – he improvises a lot, so we’d finish the scene but then keep rolling. If it feels like something’s fizzing they’ll keep it going.”

She has fond memories of when the cameras switched off too. “Oh my God, I swam in that sea,” she laughs. “Everyone was there, cast, producers, crew... we all had a dip and I remember looking round and thinking, ‘This is mad! Work should not be this fun’. I was proper pinching myself.”

Jade had another pinching-herself moment in March, when her film Fisherman’s Friends hit the cinema screens and made the top four movies in the UK – behind only Dumbo, Captain Marvel and Us. It follows the story of 10 fishermen from Cornwall who get signed by Island Records and achieve a top-10 hit with their debut album of sea shanties.

Jade plays a key role in the story. “It’s a proper feel-good British film,” she explains. “I play the head of Island Records, who signs the fishermen, who is a real person in real life, but is a man.”

Gender-hopping in roles isn’t unusual for Jade, who despite proudly flying the flag for female actors – in Phyllida Lloyd’s all-female Shakespeare trilogy at the Donmar Warehouse in 2016, for example – has played parts such as Henry IV’s Hotspur and Mark Antony in Julius Caesar, and has spoken previously about wanting to tackle James Bond.

“I was thinking about that the other day. And I also play roles on stage that are ‘male’ roles too. I kind of love that,” she smiles.

The idea of playing with identity feeds into her other life as a poet, in which she writes and performs verses, often exploring issues like gender and ‘otherness’.

Poetry has been with her since drama school and it was something she embraced on the road on acting jobs. “It was a way to be creative and be in control,” she explains. “When I couldn’t be in control in the acting world, I could be in control of my poems.”

In 2016 this led to her publishing a volume of verses – called Eggs On Toast – and last summer she gave a TEDx talk at Theatre Peckham on “being black, being a woman, being other”, featuring many of her own poems. Bounty, for example, explores the complexity of race and identity, with powerful, emotive lines.

“It ended up that the talk was going to be about identity,” Jade explains. “I knew I had to use poetry, because that’s how I can communicate with my voice best.”

She closed the talk with I Am A Woman – a powerful homage to Maya Angelou and her seminal poem Phenomenal Woman – peeling away societal expectations of femininity, getting to the root of what being a woman means to Jade.

What it means to be a woman of colour, and an actor, is also important to her, and it inspired a local event she organised last year called Black Panther Peckham.

“I love superhero films,” she explains. “I grew up obsessed with them, but there were so few black women. I was so disappointed with Halle Berry as Catwoman, because I love Halle Berry and thought it would be amazing... and then it was such a bad film. The script was just all wrong.

“So when I heard about [superhero film] Black Panther I thought, ‘Oh my God this would have been my absolute life when I was young’, and I just thought that people like my little cousins needed to watch it.”

Seeing Oscar-winner Viola Davis raising money in the US to send underprivileged young people to see the film, Jade sought to do something similar here in London. “We shouldn’t take it for granted that everyone can just afford to go to the cinema. Peckhamplex is obviously good anyway – £4.99, get in! – but even that for some people is a luxury. So I just started a GoFundMe page, and it went absolutely mental!”

Jade raised thousands of pounds for hundreds of local children to see Black Panther at Peckhamplex, with popcorn, drinks and Disney merchandise donated to the evening, along with a post-show Q&A for the young audience.

“It was so heartwarming,” she smiles. “It was so great that we could do it. I kept popping into the cinema and hearing the crowd’s reactions. There was something about a load of young people being in a room alone with their peers, that kind of shared experience, that was really special. They were having so much fun.”

Jade recently took another 140 young people from Peckham and other parts of south-east London to see the play Emilia in the West End. “I just thought it was so important for young people to see this production,” she says.

“The first of its kind with three women of colour in the lead and on the poster, in a play set in Shakespeare’s time about a forgotten, hidden story of a woman who found her voice. I was able to use some money left over from Black Panther Peckham to help make it happen.”

The second half of this year is set to be as action-packed as the first, with Jade appearing in A Black Actress – a photo exhibition celebrating black actresses that is set to open this summer. She will also appear alongside Blake Lively and Jude Law in The Rhythm Section, a big release hitting cinemas in November.

When we meet, she has just finished a run of her own one-woman show, Heart, at The Vaults under Waterloo Station, and it marks another branching-off in her creative life.

The 50-minute monologue is a journey of the heart, following a woman from her wedding day for the next seven years. “It’s a kind of call-to-arms, a call to look at society,” she explains.

“Really, again, it’s all about identity, and maybe feeling ‘other’. The idea of that and of heartache –where that sits you in society. It’s funny, but most people were crying at the end. They said they could recognise their own stories or moments in it.”

Opening on International Women’s Day with an all-female team made it all the more poignant, along with the fact that Jade was performing her own material in the setting of a play, rather than someone else’s script, or speaking poetry.

“It was different because it was my words,” she says. “There’s nothing to hide behind, but it was amazing. It was the start of a journey – I’m definitely going to do it again [Heart will be coming to a London theatre this autumn] and hopefully publish it. I just want it to live on, I want it to be told and told.”

Her voice, always, a thing of intelligent beauty.

Interesting subject matter. Reclaiming nudes? Is it sad to take nudes? I feel like it’s empowering but not also. I hate the thought of men requesting nudes. My sister and her peers get this a lot and I don’t like it. It confers power to the voyeur (often deeply unattractive comparatively!)

But then it could be seen as empowering also, if it’s just for yourself taking it. For centuries, people want to see themselves depicted in narrative and photo form - is this what makes us human? Fascinating.

As a tenuous link between Cate’s track and Julia Jacklin, Julia also has a track named ‘Body’ which explores a past relationship. It reflects on a relationship that ends. These next lines are powerful:-

Why do people make us feel like we need to perform the role of a ‘good woman’ - why do we feel bad, if we are angry or negative or depressed? I think says a lot about the social construction of femininity being tied to ‘goodness’ I think it harms us sometimes, comparing ourselves to these ‘selfless’, good women that are also beautiful, hard-working, intellectual, but not too intellectual, and always sensitive to men’s needs over their own.

That feeling of intrusion, I can relate to massively. Sometimes you feel alienated by your own body and that it is “just a body”, and that you’re not really valued for anything but your body. I think it’s more of a female experience.

Strength, defiance, powerful, connectivity, ageing. Ace lyricss, “I used to be 17, now you’re just like me”. There is such beauty and wisdom in this song, “i see you so uncomfortably alone / I wish I could show you how much you’ve grown” “I used to be 17, I used to be 17.” Love the way she signs “la la la” oh gorgeous simplicity but with this intelligence and edge. “I know what you’re gonna be, I know that you're gonna be” “Afraid you’ll be just like meeeeeeeeee” (Och, sad/sweet/reflection, feeling old but with the responsibility and confidence that comes with it. Sounds a wee bit like Patti Smith on the extended high notes on “meeeeeeeeee” so feisty. How we are all basically that under confident, anxious 17 year old, even when we’ve grown and learnt all these life lessons.

4. Sault - Up All Night

Opening bongo drums and bass, slick and classy, draw you in. Such a catchy tune. “no time for sleep”. Such an exciting weekend song, makes you feel excited. I like the kind of declarative “shut up you need to shut up” entwined with “don’t stop the beat again” I can’t work out if the male vocals are referencing vulvas, if so, hell yes. “And I will walk alone” Such feistiness and catchiness. At around 2 minute 32, it picks up volume into some kind of psychedelic and calediscospic drop that just keeps building and I feel like I am in a 70s movie walking along the pavement, euphoric and bombastic. Then drums again. The drums, vocals and bass are the strength of this track.

5. Faye Webster - Room Temperature

Wonky, sassy, hubby, intelligent, sarcastic, bittersweet breakup sass.

6. Buzzy Lee - Sundown Queen

Purely for the most gorgeous, romantic voiced line of the year:-

“In the seventies, we’d be in love”.

7. Ada Lea - The Party

Another brilliant female vocalist. “Ditch the party, in your beat up truck. You’re always leaving when the night starts”.

Fave line - And the moon was a strange shade of green, orange, was i wrong cause I couldn’t tell the difference at all?

So it’s kind of like the moon and the night verses, are similar, in tone of voice or enunciation and I really really like this.

8. Grace Ives - Anything

Lovesong, post-modernity. Like a future scape, electronic, tinny, flimsy but with a depth to the writing, also a boom boxy 90s feel.

Rhyming.

Electronic. “Holding hands, silence sigh” “I can’t think of any way to move, I look you in the eye”.

“I’m right here, I wanna love you. I wanna fight”.

“I would do anything, anything, anything to keep you in my life”. (Oh my life)

“That’s the way it’s got to be from now on”.

“I’m gonna talk, I’m trying harder, I’m sleeping less”.

“I would do anything, anything to keep everything above my chest”.

“Chest” it’s the way she says it. Dark, light, sarcastic. Kind of reminds me of Cher or someone with a deeper vocal range.

That is the way, it’s just the way it’s gotta be (guaranteed to get in your brain all day).

Also, a mention for her song Mirror which is brilliant. It’s like a song we might have heard when we were 13, but so much better and sassier. It has this 90s r+b feel, but is smart and weird, “I think I think about it too much right now, I didn’t know what I was about, I think I finally got it f- figured out”.

It’s so sexy and her high range is amazing.

9. Ztella - Samba

Do I like samba songs because I spent my late childhood/early adolescence in a dance hall in Bolton doing the samba with various girls from places in Bolton I didn’t know. Yes, I am pre-disposed.

But this song is fine. It’s fit as. Exuberant. Classy. Mid summer evenings. Breezy holidays, sun sea air catching your neck, and making you want to dance.

10. Brijean - Show and Tell

Those hazy female Californian vocals I like so much like Mama Cass. So slick and lovely, also a few 70s funk whistles and synths as the drop comes in.

Those male/female vocals, laced, layered with back and forth woozy bass, similar to some other songs I like such as Marilyn by Them are Us Two and Soft as snow (but warm inside) by MBV.

Classy, sad, melancholic, fresh, zen, neutral, complexity.

14. Weyes Blood - Picture be Better

All the Joni vibes on this record. Sad sad reflection on wanting to be redeemed and seen in a better light. I love her voice, production, depth to the lyrics. I like how her voice is in a lower key than most, lyrics flowing with such intricacy yet also stripped back and melodic.

15. Noname - Song 32

Sweet rhyming style, super feminine and confident flow, so slick tho, could be any male rapper. “I am the Kennedy’s out for lunch” nice reference to history. “Diddy money” oh yes, talking about this commercialisation of rap backed by big business (1 person monopoly). Also, what I like about this track is that it reminds me of being younger and in the summer listening to pop and rap and r&b in the garden, only it’s a kickass female rapper who is smart and funny.

16. Big Thief - Not

So fulfilling to listen to, belting it out and feeling angst.

17. Planet 1999 - Spell

Dream like 90s vibes, lush harmonies are so light and airy and then the bass and drums kick in. So melodic, I feel like I am feminist Barbie listening to this. Beautiful vocals.

Distortion opening, reminiscent of MBV. Sweet hummingbird vocals, laced with distorted guitars. Nice drums. Having to really listen to the words. Break in the distortion at approx 2 minute

Could be a much clearer Blinda Butcher vocal. Hazy, woozy, wavey and repeat. Male/Female vox interplay I like, so reminiscent of MBV. MBV being the best archetype. Male vocals, a little too high in pitch to be as good as Kevin Shields, however, still this track is very pleasing. “I could have told you that”

It’s no wonder to me that Easter is a novelist because her word play engulfs you in these romantic, callous, cruel, visceral, trippy, sexual double entendres and European flaneur narratives.

While the (heart) beats are 90s Euro beats but with a finesse and style no one rivals. Also, about the drums and electronic synths - they really punctuate the spoken word lyrics, it feels like a marching band or something - so taut and percussive.

I’m going to eventually write a list of my favourite Easter lyrics and this is such catharsis, they bring me joy. Smart and critical but trippy and fun. Decidedly adult.

“Sadness is an evil gas inside of me”. (I can totally relate).

Best line “some drunk cop might pull me over’. I like how American people are contextualising this in regards to people of colour being pulled over by inept cops. Worrying it still happens though. I guess as well, you wouldn’t really expect a hyper feminine female pop track to be referring to this though - which is great.

50. Automatic - Calling It.

Nice drums and guitars, kind of 60s sounding, building and building. Then female sass vocals, loud and joyous. “Emotions always out of reach”. The guitars have this throbbing kind of swagger I also like on a track by Maraudeur named ‘Computer Dreams’.

“A picture of your changing face / To hold it all together”.

What I like is the merging of guitars with synths to make these future/retro narratives that are existential and narrative based.

Rig Rundown/Studio Tour

Hey dudes, been a real long time since I did a walk through of my music rooms with you, figured it would be a good time to give you one of those.

So where to start, well these are my three main boys,up on the wall from right to left, my tele, an xavier thinline, it sounds like santana, its huge sounding. it stays in tune super well, and it has a bridge pickup that isnt too bright or too barky, love it. My sisters jazz bass which I have been “barrowing” for like, 6 years. its perfect, I have another bass, a yamaha 5 string fretless, that I barely use and will likely sell, because this jazz bass just does everything so well and I dont have to eq it, or reamp it, its direct, with compression, nothing else. and lastly, my signature strat, special switching system, and a 5 position mid boost preamp and a hipshot b bender, I love this guitar, its perfection.

below them, my blue strat, I have the trem set floating and the strings are old and really dark sounding. I might switch it to flat wounds because the pickups in it are really bright, and with darker strings this guitar sounds so cool and surfy through a clean amp with a ton of spring reverb. love it. and then there is my washburn, its a floyd rose guitar. I wanted to be joe satriani growing up, but the older Ive gotten, and the more Ive played, ive realized that isnt me. an old fender trem, and a set of locking tuners is good enough for most people, floyd roses just dont sound right to me. they lack a certain character. and full humbucker guitars arent my thing either, as soon as I switched back to a strat from my tele...man, it was eye opening, single coils with a mid boost > humbuckers with a coil tap any day. I am thinking about switching the humbuckers out for p90s with that mid boost circuit in it, or maybe even just a booster.

I do recognize that my main guitars all have humbuckers in the bridge position, a lot of bridge single coils lack a thickness to them, the only single coil bridge pups I have ever liked were tele pickups. but its easier to just drop a humbucker in there or leave one in there than try to shove a tele pup in there.

my acoustics, my first act, my douglas, and my ovation. My first act was my second guitar ever, I got it in 2004? the pickup in it is from a harmony solid body from the early 80s, it is scarred six ways from sunday, it was my main live guitar for about ten years. I love this guitar, it sounds better than almost every electric guitar I have ever heard. if it wasnt for the fact it was so hard to ground and was so noisy, I would use this guitar for EVERYTHING. The Douglas was a graduation present from a customer at the music store I used to work at, it sounds like wes montgomery, its so fat man. and when you run it through my marshall and overdrive it, its so round and warm, its perfection. lastly is my ovation, its a 76 balladeer. it didnt come with a pickup which is disappointing, but I use a gold foil sound hole pickup with it that works really well. these three guitars are usually mic’d with that sweet audio technica at2020, and then I also run it through my amps on a cleanish setting, mix those in box, it sounds amazing.

heres my pedalboard, and also my main amp....and yes, that is a shelving unit, and my pedals are zip tied to it. The fender mustang floor is a life saver, I listened to it A/B’d with amps in the store I used to work at, and they were so true and lifelike, as good as a line 6? no, but this was like 500 dollars cheaper when I factored in my discount. great marshall tone, great bassman, great champ, all of the pedal sounds are great. and I can record at 4am and not get evicted. from left to right.

behringer compressor. very smooth Dynacomp clone, it it so smooth, almost like an orange squeezer, but this thing sounds like country.

behringer pitch shifter/harmonizer I use it to do two things, 3rd harmonies, so if im feeling lazy and dont want to double track a guitar, I can just do this and there it is. and i use it for full step bends, when you combine it with the b bender, you can really emulate a steel guitar

Electroharmonix LPB-1. my booster of choice, I prefer this so much in front of a dirty amp to something like a tube screamer. get an amp sorta dirty, roll your volume down to get a clean sound, and click the boost to get distortion.

behringer hellbabe wah. optical, spring powered wah. very narrow Q, adjustable range, I use wah a lot, but I dont like it to have a really wide sweep like how crybabys do, this boy works so well.

also I know thats a lot of behringer, but guess what. sold pedals for 6 years, I have had dozens of different brands on my board, from vox’s joe satriani pedals, sans amp pedals, JHS dirt boxes, three or four seperate chorus’s, a few different flavors of delay, but I stuck with the ones I have, because they sound great....and because their resale value was low enough that I couldnt justify selling them to buy other pedals. plus they just sound good, yea theyre plastic but fuck you, they sound so good.

while I do mainly use a fender mustang to record, I have slowly been switching back to using a real amp. MY AMP. its a Marshall Valvestate 100 Watt head, into a Bugera version 1 2x12 cabinet, so I dont have those harsh turbosound speakers in it. I have changed the tube out in the head for a ruby tube like 3 years ago, its holding strong so power to those dudes. I have the amp set really loud (more on that soon) but the gain set really low, if a marshall running almost flat out with the gain pretty low worked for ACDC it will work for me. so about me running a 100 watt head flat out in an apartment, well you might have noticed that little boy up there

that bugera power soak is a life saver. my amp sounds so warm and chewy, and I never was able to get that tone from this amp before I got it. the valve state has a tube preamp, and a solid state power amp, so the idea is, if you run it low, it should sound about the same as it does full out. it doesnt, I think the power amp section definitely plays a smaller role but it does still play a role. I have the amp set to like 7/10, because above that I definitely get some suck to the sound, where the volume drops a little bit when you hit it really hard, and below that it is a little grainy sounding, theres just this high end sort of fizz, and the amp is a bit too dynamic at low volumes, if you hit it really hard it just gets too loud compared to when you play quiet. the compression I get from running it that loud through the soak just leads to such a solid sound. All of my youtube videos for the last few weeks are this marshall, but there is one last part to my sound.

a first act delay pedal. this dude is a bucket brigade delay, that has a fault that drops the volume just a little bit when its on, and when you set the delay length reallly long, it gets really atmostpheric, and when this and the spring reverb in the amp start playing with eachother, its lush, its big. I put this in the effects loop and just this, nothing else. this, in conjunction with the soak, keeps my volume managable but also thick sounding.

so there it is my dudes. Hope you got something from reading all this, cause I love talking about guitar gear so much more than you can imagine. if working at music stores didnt pay so fucking bad, this is all I would ever do.

GloFo 7nm: A Lost Hope

So as you may know GloFo 7nm was recently cancelled, in this article im going to analyze all of what this implies in a lot of levels but mostly on the technical one, both in short and long term

before beginning please have in mind:

1) im Spanish and my english writing might be poor, also this is by far the longest article ive ever wrote and it took me 2 and a half Hours to complete, there can be mistakes but don't be harsh pls

2) i currently own a bit of AMD stock, this means I focus on them more, but as you will see this doesn't affect my thinking

3) i link various articles in this one, i recommend you reading them for better comprehension

4) this article contains A LOT of estimates, they are based on public knowledge, if some of that knowledge turns out to be false or inaccurate the estimates based on it do the same, however they are the best that I can do, if I had more hard data I will use it. in particular, my estimates about TSMC 7nm are… weak and early, please don't complain about them, its the best I can do without more hard data

with that said lets begin

The first important question is WHY? Why did GloFo cancel their 7nm node? the answer is simple: MONEY, this quote from anandtech sums things up:

So, the key takeaway here is that while the 7LP platform was a bit behind TSMC’s CLN7FF when it comes to HVM – and GlobalFoundries has never been first to market with leading edge bulk manufacturing technologies anyway – there were no issues with the fabrication process itself. Rather there were deeper economic reasons behind the decision.

The second question is: how does GloFo 7nm compare to TSMC 7nm, because if glofo’s node was worse than TSMC's then the only loss here would be the competition, well this is absolutely not the case, GloFo 7nm was superior than TSMC 7nm, maybe by a wide margin, but this depends literally of thousands of factors, so the best that i can do is to approximate the final answer basing on all that we know first we have to know the specifics of GloFo 7nm, here is an excellent article containing them and more: https://fuse.wikichip.org/news/641/iedm-2017-globalfoundries-7nm-process-cobalt-euv/ if you read the article and understand most of it, you have my respect, but lets list the facts that we care about:

1) 55% power reduction at the same frequency

2) 40% frequency improvement at the same power

3) extremely tuned fin profiles

4) cobalt for some critical layers, improving interconnect speed and drastically reducing electromitigation, this is very important as the wall to reaching high clocks is interconnect speed

this looks extremely nice, but how does this translate into real world max clocks? Well if you assume the GloFo chart was linear then the results are very good, here is a calibration based in real data, done in the anandtech forums by /u/catmerc (thanks!): https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/next-gen-zen-2-3-starship-and-derivatives.2511914/page-3#post-39322122 you watched right: 4,6 GHz at the same power you would get 3,3 GHz on 14nm, WOW, this means that (again if the chart was linear) 5 GHz wouldn't be far fetched at all, this is probably too good and my estimations are that GloFo 7nm was a bit worse than what this chart implies, still I think 5 GHz would have been doable, but only for single core turbo, just in case: im referring to the SoC version, clocks on 7HPC would have been ludicrous

now we have to analyze how good TSMC 7nm is, this is harder to know and there is less data about this but lets do it anyway. first we have to get the advertised numbers, and those are 60% power reduction at the same frequency or 30% frequency improvement at the same power, source: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12677/TSMC-kicks-off-volume-production-of-7nm-chips, this is starting to look worse than GloFo from the first moment, however there is a big issue here: the bases are different, GloFo bases their 7nm numbers on their 14nm, and TSMC does it over their 16nm+ this makes comparison hard, I remember that TSMC 16nm clocked higher than Samsung 14nm which is the same as GloFo 14nm, but consumed a bit more and was less dense, I cant source those claims but if you look at the numbers they make sense, anyway this approach failed as a solid comparison point so lets move on, how about taking the words of their clients? Spoiler alert: worse than GloFo

Speed gains of 16% at 10 nm may dry up at 7 nm due to resistance in metal lines. Power savings will shrink from 30% at 10 nm to 10–25% at 7 nm, and area shrinks may decline from 37% at 10 nm to 20–30% at 7 nm, said Paul Penzes, a senior director of engineering on Qualcomm’s design technology team. source: https://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1333109

Arm claims that the latest 7-nm nodes will only deliver 2% to 3% more speed than the 16-nm node. “There hasn’t been much frequency benefit at all since 16 nm … wire speed hasn’t scaled for some time,” said Peter Greenhalgh, an Arm fellow and vice president of technology. source: https://www.eetasia.com/news/article/18060102-arm-announces-high-performance-laptop-cpu

so basically two clients of TSMC are saying that there are close to none clock gains on 7nm (compared to 10nm, this is important) and I know they mean TSMC and not GloFo because they both say the problem is interconnect speed which if you remember from above is one of the things GloFo 7nm improved a lot thanks to cobalt and other things, also GloFo is a much smaller fab, it was going to get into HVM later and most people were going to use TSMC anyway. So now we know TSMC 7nm isn't as good as GloFo 7nm was, but by how much? Well a little time ago I made a prediction of how Ryzen 3000 would clock on both nodes, I recently updated it to reflect that AMD will use the HPC variant: https://www.reddit.com/r/aceshardware/comments/923t76/ryzen_3000_clock_predictions/ so there is your answer, a not at all laughable 300 MHz loss, but I think you also want to know how did I get to that concussion, well… it is a bit tricky and fail prone also it has a 100mhz or higher margin of error, anyway here it goes: the base is Ryzen 7 1800X which turbos up to 4 GHz on GloFo 14LPP TSMC 16nm+ clocks higher than GloFo 14lpp but lower than 12LP, 4,2GHz is my best estimate, TSMC 10nm should give about 5% of a boost to max clocks (remember max clocks ALWAYS increase less than “performance” for high end CPUs) that gets us to >4,4 GHz, going from 10nm to 7nm should give a negligible boost of around 2% but this is just enough to put that number on 4,5 GHz, this is the number for the mobile variant, but as i discovered during the writing of this article, AMD is going to use the HPC variant which features a 7.5 track library instead of the 6 track one found in the mobile variant it also should use fater interconnects, finding how much will this variant boost clocks is again as there is EVEN LESS data on it, the only numbers that I could find are +13% perf over the mobile variant and up to 4,4 GHz speed for the sram(L* cache), cache usually is a bit slower than the CPU itself so this doesnt mean the limit is 4,4 GHz. with all of this my estimation for 7nm HPC is 4,7 GHz which is still lower than the GloFo 7nm SoC version, have in mind im being a bit cautious with this one 4,8 GHz is possible , just for laughs if we compared max clocks of GloFo 7nm HPC(IBM only) vs TSMC 7nm HPC the difference will be ~0,8GHz, LOL just LOL (the number is serious tough) as you can see this is tricky as is based on estimates over estimates, however there are some limits to how good or how bad it can clock, so while my number might (and possibly will) fail, it cant fail by much The third question is: who this affects and how does it? The answer is AMD, IBM, Intel, TSMC and maybe Samsung, so lets analyze how it affects everyone on that list

AMD: Negatively

after the previous paragraph you can see why: 300-200mhz loss its not good, but this is just the tip of the iceberg, even if GloFo continued with 7nm AMD might have chosen TSMC 7nm for ryzen 3000 because of time constraints, the really bad thing about this is that the clocks of TSMC nodes are expected to be flat until 3nm which will mean a tech change from finfet to gaafet, this means Intel has 3-4 years of wide and increasing clock leadership so the only way AMD can beat Intel’s performance in the desktop market is through big IPC increases, which are unlikely to be big enough,still AMD should be able to beat Intel in value (perf/price) by a very good margin, server and laptop market are a VERY different story and I expect AMD to do very well on those. another HUGE concern for AMD should be prices, with near zero competition TSMC can increase prices both on the short and the long term, similar to the DRAM market, this means either smaller margins for AMD or higher final product prices.

for those all reasons I did cut my personal stock price target for AMD by a BIG 20%, yes you heard right: the day before the announcement I thought AMD was going to reach a 25% (because percentages work that way) higher price than today, im not going to say what my exact price targets are but I believe AMD is going to go up from the current price, just much less than before

IBM: Negatively, VERY negatively

well.. this guys really take the worst part, basically they have no node suitable for their high-end CPUs for the foreseeable future, glofo spun off an ASIC group which is said to help port costumer designs to other nodes, the problem is that there is no high performance 7nm class node apart from intel 10nm (if they fix it)

Intel: Positively

a lot of what I said for AMD applies here in reverse, Intel basically has an assured performance lead in the desktop market over AMD, but still they will have to compete to a denser, cheaper to produce 7nm chip lineup with their 14nm one, their server market share is still posed to get lower maybe by a bog amount

TSMC: Positively, VERY positively

on the short term they get more volume and therefore revenue, and in a now 2-player game (3 if intel opens its fabs) they get the ability to increase or even pact prices

Samsung: Positively

Samsung on the short term will probably see no gains, but on the long term they might win some designs, however the big win for them is the lack of competency driving prices an therefore margins up

YOU, the consumer: Negatively

as per the points stated above you might get more expensive chips, and maybe even worse ones, cutting-edge node development is mindblowingly expensive and that maybe is an understatement, with less competition tsmc and samsung might opt to do less aggressive jumps to save a huge amount of money on RD, this remains to be seen, it may not happen, but the possibility is out there and I wont dismiss it

to end I would like to quote an excellent comment from /u/nagromo which summarizes perfectly some of my thoughts:

I was hopeful that IBM research working with them meant it would be more like "IBM 7nm, manufactured by GloFo", similar to how they've done well with Samsung 14nm. I still think there's a decent chance it really was on track, and they're telling the truth and just think they can be more profitable using their successful 12/14nm technologies instead of investing $10B+ into 7nm. I'm really disappointed to hear this. I thought it was a reasonable hope that the IBM research team would be able to achieve or approach their 40% performance, 55% power numbers. There's rumors about poor performance from TSMC 7nm. My hopes for Ryzen 3 aren't nearly as high as they were yesterday.

England's KERRANG! Tour is done. I am writing this after the live in Saitama, the first day of TOUR09 FEAST OF V SENSES. I have read all the mail that I received from Osaka-jo Hall and Namba Hatch. When I read everyone's feeling about UROBOROS, their expectation of the Osaka-jo Hall and the feeling after the Osaka-jo Hall, I felt a bit really touched. It's probably age. (Laughs). But a good age.

Osaka-jo hall was the best! I am sorry that it's loaded with much reflection but it was a great time. I saw a lot from people who were able to tell me that they were able to feel UROBOROS and enjoy it, it really made me happy. I was able to tell various magazines about my state of mind but I am really a happy person! To think there are so many great people exist! Recently, I am just always giving thanks but, Honma Arigatou! (REALLY THANK YOU!) Now I really want to make you guys see an even greater greater scene kind of live that I can think of.

Also, we will go to places we've never been and we will go to the places whose people who have have never seen us before, the Livehouse Tour has begun. In Livehouses, the microphone wires are few, (the drums are many so we can take a few...) which is why acoustic guitar songs and there are some songs that we can't play but this the only tour where you can taste this!

Also the dude limited live, you're men so it's okay to have some injuries right? The one we had few years ago was so quiet but this time you're guys so let me see your fighting spirit!

For this year, if we are able to carry out all the planned out things right now, we will make a really boastful number of lives, until we can still go for it, we go!

What's up!? The previous article had such good reviews so for this time I will write the sequel (laughs). Here it is!

I think this was also posted on Boo-san's (VJ Boo) blog, but this is our bus during the US tour. This brings back old memories...

We went to UNIVERSAL STUDIOS in ORLANDO.

The weather was also nice, it was great! First, we went to SPIDER-MAN.

Next we went to JURASSIC PARK. My whole body was drenched wet! But it was fun (laughs).

After the live on the 31st I went straight to the hospital. I came down with influenza (flu), and during the live I thought that I was going to die.... Due to the extreme physical activity, the drooling won't stop, because of the fever and the sluggishness my consciousness was fading away. At the hospital I got an IV drip, on the 1st I went back to my parent's home via Nagoya, I was in bed for 5 days and spent the whole New Year in bed... But, I want to praise myself since I think that I worked pretty hard if I do say so myself (laughs).

Well, the end of last year was like this. And at the start of the year is the KERRANG!tour. I don't know if I will do this journal for the next time but that's it for now! Until then!!

Shinya Dr. Nemunemu no daigyakushi

Hello Everyone. Nemunemu's corner will also start today. So, this time I bring you the diary on the November 2008 American Tour. I just appropriately picked out the days when there are things happening. And so here it is.

Nemunemu Diary ~America & Canada collection/volume~

11/4 Today, we are checking our equipment in the rehearsal studio in preparation for the real tour tomorrow. It's the same studio that we went to even during the past American Tour. It's the Myu- jin (place) where Dr.Nemunemu said that he Nia- (did something). I quickly checked my drums but the rototom didn't arrive. So, by car, we had to go to a music store to buy one. There was a rototom and I was able to buy it with no problems but they don't seem to sell adapter for the rototom. So when Dr. Nemunemu had to find something that can replace it inside that store, I found an exact adapter. The item found was attached to a snare drum then, when we asked the storekeeper if we could have the same one, he suddenly said that it's attached to the snare so you would have to buy the snare too. As we were having trouble, "I only need to buy the adapter, why do I have to buy the snare too?!" , a different storekeeper peeked out from the back area came out and handed us the same adapter and that is how I got the adapter in my hands. And at that I was able to do the setting with no problems.

11/6 Today is an off day so we went to Universal Studio. In the midst of going there my other name "chicken" was revived. (Refer to Vol. No. 33) Dr. Nemunemu has never been to Japan's Universal Studio but then, it most likely doesn't have those big rides. So I went there with much confidence. Just then as we arrived and saw the theme park, I suddenly saw big-looking lanes of Rollercoasters. Dr. Nemunemu thought secretly, this one is just impossible. However, I was able to ride the other rides with much confidence/leisure. And as the fun time just continued on, suddenly, the bassist said, "Let's go on 'that' next!". Of course, "THAT" meant the really big ride. I said, "Dr. Nemunemu will stay down here and wait." But the Toshiya & Die Combination were able to make Dr. Nemunemu take the ride by any means. They said, "If you are able to ride that we will never call you chicken again.", they also said, "it's a chance to remove that dirty name chicken". Even at that as Dr. Nemunemu is going to decline, suddenly, the 2 grabbed me up by both of my arms and I was dragged by force and made me get in the line. So while in the line, I tried running away during the unguarded moments but I would get quickly get caught by the two and was stuck in middle and then suddenly, I was on the ride. During the ride it was the most dreadful time. I was thinking that even I was able to ride it, and also even after that, just like before my other name is chicken.

11/9 Today after dinner, I went with Die, Toshiya, Nora, and the tech Kuroo-san, goods seller Jordan, for bowling. When it comes to bowling, Dr. Nemunemu was so into it a few years ago that he was able to write a lot about it at that time (very much like myself) but recently, I haven't played it at all. It can't be helped that I haven't played but we did 2 games and on both Dr. Nemunemu scored the lowest. Well as I said to myself it can't be helped since I haven't played recently,?I suddenly a heard a Japanese prattle from the rear. "Ma-ke-in-u". "Ma-ke-i-nu" (Loser) as I turned around, Jordan faced Dr.Nemunemu and said it. Beside Jordan, the bassist was doing a "I will try and teach you" face and grinned. In a few seconds, my other name is "Makeinu"(Loser).

11/10 Today's live is at Baltimore. When Dr.Nemunemu went in the dressing room, Jordan faced Dr. Nemunemu and said happily, "Mi-ki-inu". Instantly, it was a mistake but Dr. Nemunemu didn't correct him and rather left it at that. Today's first song is OBSCURE. So I came out, sat in my drumset and waited for the SE of OBSCURE to play. And suddenly, Kaoru-kun played the intro of HYDRA-666-. While I was thinking, "Oi, oi, Kaoru-kun it's a different song." I quickly decided that I should just continue drumming HYDRA-666-. But then, I looked at the members as if nothing has changed and we normally performed HYDRA-666-. But the song list placed at Dr.Nemunemu's area was undoubtedly had OBSCURE. Then I thought that "Then, Dr.Nemunemu's song list must be wrong". While I was drumming, I was doing signals "it's wrong! it's wrong!" to the drum tech Kenji Fujieda but Kenji Fujieda had a dumbfounded face as if to say, "what's wrong?" In summary, I was able to tell him that the song list was wrong and we at least made it the second song. Why is it that Dr. Nemunemu was the only one who had yesterday's setlist?

11/13 Today is an off day in New York and everyone went to Manhattan. While walking in the city, Dr. Nemunemu asked Kenji Fujieda. "What is famous in New York?" "First, it's the Statue of Liberty." "Aah-" "And the World Trade Center Right?" "Aah-" "And the Empire State Building Right?" "Ee?! What's that?!" "He-?! You didn't know? It's the place where King Kong climbed up on." "He--So which place did King Kong climbed up on?" "...." it's Generation Gap. Then, after going around in various shops, we went to Virgin Records to check that UROBOROS was there. After taking a look around the shop and thought about going out, I knew that the Chikurin would come and even intentionally volunteered to watch the Dir Live in New York was coincidentally there also looking at UROBOROS. I knew that he will be here in New York but this is just really coincidental. When we called to him he was so surprised, "Wha? Why are you also here?" he said what I also wanted to say. And then we went out of the store and in the street in front of the shop. Since this morning, we went out separately but somehow coincidentally assembled there with Kuroo-san and then, we went out for food. New York is small.

11/16 Today is Toronto Canada's Live. After the performance, I think there were really good people that were there so when I though of throwing some sticks, I thoughtlessly bumped my head on the speaker that was hung there. It was so dark so I didn't see it. Luckily it was dark and I thought that unless only a few people in front caught me bumping my head. After that, there was the meet and greet, a foreigner who can speak Japanese said, "Shinya-san, Atama wa daijoubu desuka??" ("Shinya-san is your head okay?") At that point, Dr. Nemunemu has completely forgotten about hitting his head. And for a certain period I was thinking, "E?? Do I really look that weird(in the head; nuts)?"

11/23 While Dr. Nemunemu was eating chocolates in the dressing room, the Human Abstract's guitarist Tapley came. Dr. Nemunemu always seems to eat chocolates and Tapley asked him where is his favorite chocolate from? Since, Dr. Nemunemu likes GODIVA, I said GODIVA (go-di-ba). From that, Tapley said that he doesn't know it and asked me where is it from, I really didn't know but it was most probably from Belgium but it's pretty famous, I explained. So he asked me for the spelling, and when I said G.O.D.I.V.A. he said, "Ooh! GODIVA!" (goh-dai-va). So it seems in America the pronunciation of GODIVA is "GO-DAI-VA". So please everyone remember this little trivia (food for thought).

12/3 Today we are going to buy lunch so we went to the nearby fish mart. There was a flood of delicious-looking crabs, shrimps, scallops, and etc. And mixed among those was an angler fish that had a very stern face was placed there. The face looked really scary and I wanted to take a picture of it and went towards it up close. Suddenly, the angler fish was actually going to be moved by the storekeeper behind, it was a candid item, the storekeeper came close and with yelled(bellowed) with a loud voice and made the fish move and Dr. Nemunemu was really surprised (shocked/scared). Then, the almost forgotten other name, chicken, was again revived.

So this was how it was.

HAPPINESS OF NOTHING, THE ASSEMBLED AND [THE] NECK

For oneself, what is really needed? Precious things? How much does one person really understand one's self? How important is it? Actually, for those who look like they haven't noticed It feels as if 'there is a lot'

In everything one does, there is definitely a meaning in every action If you turned around these nonchalant actions and words, that person can feel it inside Do you understand the words that I just wrote and the things that I requested in the previous newsletter?

By all means, I want you to think about it Surely, this is connected to growth as humans

But I wonder if fun things, pleasure and escaping from reality are also good? However, there is surely something more important here But if even one person noticed (for me), isn't there a point as to why I am writing a newsletter?

There are people who would say that it's because I simply didn't want to answer it, but do I look like that kind of person? If you were those kinds of people then you won't write these hassle-some things I think that other people's growth can be whatever but...

Just for the record, all of the previous questions were already answered during the creation of the previous newsletter. Of course on answering, since the previous main purpose of my request will change and I think it will dim(fade) so I sealed up the answers.

But for the meantime instead of using it for leisure, use the time and your head for growth This time too, if I had the time to think about it or the opportunity change it as much as possible This time it seems that my corner has a meaning

Translator's Notes: Kyo was referring a lot to the previous Haiiro no Ginka (Vol. 41) where he presented all the questions that the people sent him with no answers. He was supposed to answer all of it in this Volume

Die Meisho de meishu Question: The chord Am, how many kinds of Am are there? What's different about them? Do you change the places you press when matching it with the song?

Die: For me, the sound of the Am chord has a unique atmosphere that no other minor chord has. You can feel painful loneliness and behind it a warm kindess. From there, what kind of feeling can you feel? Depending on the person who plays Am, when Am is sounded, it plainly pulls out the player's view of life. There is also an Am that is simply musically played with no feeling. Even pressed in that position, it's a simple chord that is not laborious(hard). Although I think that it being a simple chord, it's consequentially entrusted to the player for the chord's deepness. Well, put aside my view of Am, if it's about playing, the same Am's sound does change depending on the position therefore I change the position depending the song's atmosphere and the connecting chords before and after it.

For example ? is what we call the orthodox Am hold. In "Sajou no Uta" with this position you scratch while plucking(strumming) "Jyakajyaka". ? is high-positioned Am. This position is the base phrase for the cutting play of "audrey".

Question: What changes in playing the Electric and Acoustic for Die-san?

Die: With the Acoustic Guitar, the pressing power of your left hand compared to the electric needs more power and the picking nuance of your right hand. Because as a live instrument it brings out the natural sound so surely the way you play an electric changes. And for an electric the sound is distorted and in places where there is more or less a miss(mistake) you can sometimes not get caught. In the acoustic, if you made a mistake, you will immediately get caught. (Laughs) During acoustic guitar recordings, I get to use a number of guitars but each one has it's own definite character. Which is why while feeling the picking and the change of touch of each guitar, each has it's own best point and sound so, I try all the guitars. And if it is the best sounding one then I choose that one.

Question: In "Gaika Chinmoku Nemuru Koro"'s intro part, the tapping phrase you used is so painful yet beautiful but when I first saw it live, I always say too much, "It's like magic...". For me, who has never did tapping, wanted to copy it, but I doesn't really understand it. This time, by all means, please teach me. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu. (Sorry for the trouble/ inconvenience)

Die: Actually, I thought up this song's intro phrase during the "UROBOROS" recording's very last day, this was really the last of the last recorded phrases. This phrase's, what you call tapping, doesn't use a pick. First, press with your left hand's pointing finger is on the 1st string 10th fret and 2nd string 10th fret, the ring finger(or pinky) is on the 13th fret.

RED 1: With your right hand's middle finger(or pointing finger) press the 15 fret like hitting it. (Hammering on) WHITE 1: When your right hand's middle finger(pointing finger) hammers on the 2nd string on the 15th fret,

RED 2: On the same string you pull it while letting go (Pulling off), WHITE 2: While still pressing on the string make it slide to the 18th fret. (At the same time, the middle finger of your left hand presses the 11th fret.),

RED 3: In the same manner with the left ring finger, let go while pulling (pulling off), WHITE 3: Pulling Off,

RED 4: With the right hand's middle finger(pointy finger) hammer on the 17th fret. WHITE 4: In the same way, the left middle finger, pulls off.

This is the phrase's basic play using both of your hands, the point is keep the rhythm of the hammering on and pulling off, not to cut the sound midway, and to keep the sound level even.

Well, I feel that I have explained it quite simply. At first, it may confuse your head (confusing) but slowly try to get it to sound one by one, once you get used to it you will be able to play it.

Well, The Golden Circle has come, and what we feared most became true. So I've tried to fix it! It should go without saying that this isn't connected to the other chapters in Mission Reports and as we go forward, any chapter in which Tilde is around at all is an AU for The Golden Circle and any chapter where Eggsy and Roxy have been together since The Secret Service is a different AU. It should also go without saying that the fic contains TGC spoilers and you shouldn't read if you haven't seen the movie yet. All of that being said, I hope y'all like this! You could hear a pin drop. The others sat silently at the table, their jaws slack, staring at their guest. Eggsy's shout still echoed faintly from the ornately designed walls. He had just seen one of his best friends vaporized by a missile through his Kingsman glasses.

How could this be? His house's location was top secret… Charlie. Eggsy knew that this had to be that tosser's fault. There wasn't enough time to focus his anger on the failed Kingsman candidate, though. If his house had just been hit, it was only a matter of time…

"Rox," said Eggsy, not bothering with the pretense of texting anymore. "My house was just hit, the mansion has to be next."

To her credit, Roxy didn't miss a beat. While she had just been lounging a moment before, by the time Eggsy had said "hit" she was up and moving towards a fortified shelter. Eggsy was already stepping away from the dinner table, the Swedish monarchy still confused by what had just happened.

"The Golden Circle is making a move," said Roxy, her mind already on the mission. "If I don't make it, all of the data I've gathered is uploaded to our data center in Berlin."

"Don't talk like that, Rox," said Eggsy as he moved for the door.

Roxy had made it to the shelter and was locking it down when the screen on Eggsy's glasses flashed white. He could make out a grunt before the display went blank.

"Fuckin' hell!" shouted Eggsy.

Tilde had recovered and was making her way to his side after giving her parents a quick apology.

"What is going on, Eggsy?" asked the Princess.

"An emergency at work," replied Eggsy a little too tersely, the clock was ticking, and Roxy's life was hanging in the balance. "I'm sorry, I've got to go."

With that, Eggsy gave his girlfriend a quick kiss and darted through the door to his waiting car. He could make it to the mansion, or what was left of it, in a little under three hours if he was quick. If Roxy needed his help, he had no time to dally.

A little voice in the back of his head whispered that he had just insulted the royal family of Sweden, but he quickly shut it up. A lot of blood had been spilled tonight; he had already tried to hail Arthur and the other Kingsman to no avail. His only shot at rescuing anybody now was Roxy, and he was going to be damned if he couldn't do it.

"Ur da best."

"Best friend or best agent?"

"Both ;)"

Eggsy had spent the last two hours poring over the interaction before his whole world had been upended for what felt like the thousandth time. It hadn't even been a real conversation, but it had spoken volumes about his fellow agent and how much she meant to him.

A winky face. If the last normal thing Eggsy had sent to Roxy before everything went tits up was a fucking winky face, he wasn't sure he could ever forgive himself.

"Best friend or best agent?"

He had glossed over the question when she had asked it, but he found himself returning to it over and over again. Roxy was more than either of those things to Eggsy. His mind clouded over whenever he tried to figure out just what that was, but he was confident that "friend" and "agent" couldn't cover everything that Lancelot meant to him.

His thoughts wandered while his training kept him from stepping on the gas as he cruised through the country roads towards what had to be the rubble of his former base of operations.

A full on attack had been executed against the Kingsman, and the last thing he needed to do was draw unnecessary attention his way with a flashy car going high speeds through the countryside.

He pulled up to the gate, and his heart sank when he saw it bent in a tangle. Whatever had hit the mansion was big enough to twist the heavy metal gate a kilometer away. Eggsy pushed the black thoughts to the back of his mind as he got out of the car and began making his way through the thicket between him and the house.

As he quietly stepped through the woods, he readied his pistol. If the Golden Circle meant to ensure their work had been thorough, there could very well be an enemy fire team picking through the rubble.

The flames from the house slowly started popping into view, and Eggsy took a knee behind a tree as he watched and listened. There was nothing but the shifting rock and the crackling of the fires, and it quickly became apparent that he was alone. Whoever the Golden Circle were, they were arrogant enough to think they didn't need to make sure their work was finished properly.

"They were right for the most part," thought Eggsy grimly, but they weren't right about this. Roxy was the toughest person he knew, and if there was a chance for her to make it, regardless of how slim it was, she was going to get it done.

The rain started coming down as Eggsy moved across the shattered lawn, his pistol drawn and ready and his eyes on the lookout for any targets. He began going over their last interactions; she had been in her room on the southern end of the building making the nearest shelter to her the closet on the southwest corner. The missile had hit on the other side of the building, which just might have given her the time she needed to get there.

He started climbing up the blackened stone and granite roughly around where she should be and started calling for her.

"Roxy! I'm here! Where are you!?" shouted Eggsy, trying his hardest not to let the strain and worry into his voice. "Com'on Rox!"

A muffled cry answered him in the rubble. Eggsy's heart skipped a beat and a grin popped up on his face from nowhere. It was all he could manage not to give a gleeful whoop right there in the rain and the ash.

"Hold on Roxy, I'm coming," said Eggsy, deliberately keeping his voice calm.

He immediately started at the debris, digging down toward where the noise came from in his tux. After what felt like forever, Eggsy shifted one last thick timber scaffold out of the way when a blackened hand reached out for him. He fell to his knees and grasped it with both of his.

"It's okay Roxy, I'm here, you're going to be fine," Eggsy needed to say it, but he knew she was a long way away from being fine.

He began digging her out of the last bit of debris, the remainder of her hardened shelter. It had saved her life, but just barely. The reinforced, blast-proof pod had taken a beating and had obviously only managed to keep Roxy from the truly life-threatening injuries. By the time she was free, the extent of her wounds had come fully into focus. She had fallen unconscious while he had been digging, but he could see heavy bruising and what had to be several broken bones. If that was what was immediately apparent, there was no telling how bad it was internally.

Eggsy made sure she was secure before sprinting back toward his car and the Kingsman medical kit that was stored in the boot. It wouldn't do much, but it was certainly better than nothing until he could get her to a hospital.

"Gallaha- -ome in Galla-" Eggsy's earpiece piped up in static.

"What? Yes! Merlin is that you?!" shouted Eggsy.

"-oomsday scenario, Eggsy, we need to rendezvous," Merlin's stoic voice came through, getting clearer with every word.

"Merlin, listen! Lancelot is in a bad way! We need a medevac, asap," said Eggsy, grabbing the medkit and sprinting back to his injured partner.

"Lancelot? She was at the mansion, the sensors say it was leveled!" said Merlin, doubt creeping in over the earpiece.

"It was, but this is Roxy we're talking about," countered Eggsy. "She has a broken arm and leg, and the rest of her looks like a plum, but she's breathing."

"10-4 Eggsy, a helivac is on its way," said Merlin, seamlessly changing gears and jumping into action.

"Atta girl, Rox," Eggsy heard Merlin whisper in quiet triumph and joy.

"You're the governor, Merlin," replied Eggsy as he slid next to the downed agent, quickly setting up the medkit.

With a practiced hand and the handheld x-ray tablet that Merlin had just perfected the week before, Eggsy quickly made a note of all of the injuries that Roxy had endured, information that would be invaluable to the medics when they got there and set up an IV. After that, there was nothing more he could do but do his best to cover her with his jacket and wait. Eggsy took up position by her side, holding the IV bag up with one hand and Roxy's right hand with the other.

Before too long, the whir of a helicopter's rotor drowned out the soft patter of rain. As the medics made their way towards him with a stretcher, Eggsy finally began to believe that his best friend, the best agent he knew, his partner, was going to be okay.

Eggsy smiled.

14. dream trip: you know i dont actually have a lot of interest in travel. idk, it stresses me out. i cant think about going places without worrying about how i’ll get around, what i’ll be doing, what i’ll be able to eat since i have a lot of food anxieties… idk. if someone i love wanted to go on a trip with me i’d probably be down, but i dont really know on my own.

15. instruments: i wish i could do music lol

16. languages: are amazing and i love them. okay fine lol i only speak english, but i took german in middle and high school, i took latin in high school as well, then took latin and ancient greek in college, and then after college i did a lot of looking into hungarian, vietnamese, a little bit of indonesian, turkish, and polish, and then recently i’ve been pretty focused on korean for obvious reasons. i speak none of those languages tho, lol. if i heard someone speaking some of those i could get the gist of what types of things theyre talking about most likely, but honestly my whole thing with languages is that im more interested in learning about the intricacies of how languages work and especially how they change over time than i am in actually learning the language. i’d love if my dumb adhd brain allowed me to focus hard enough and really commit to becoming fluent in a second language because so far i’ve only steadily approached being barely conversational, i’ve never actually reached even that point yet lol. and being only fluent in english makes me feel like a stupid american lol. i pick up bits of language really easily, but the rigor of learning ALL the vocab and ALL the little details you need to become actually fluent is where i fall off.

like whenever i go through an anime phase, i pick up lots and lots of japanese. like if they keep using a word i’ll see it in the subtitles and figure that it must mean that, and then i’ll pay attention to the endings they use and how they inflect it and i’ll make little inferences about what those signify, so then when i hear a word that i dont recognize but it has a grammatical ending that i know, i can infer the meaning of the word from context, and im going through this same learning process with korean now and it’s super super fun and i’m loving how much progress ive made (though i could have been making progress like three times as fast if i was actually taking a korean class)… but the actual work of learning common phrases, learning the sheer volume of vocab, all that stuff… yeah that’s where i fall off. so idk how fluent i’ll get in korean, but i’m down to find out, lol. maybe this is the one i’ll really try to focus on and achieve it with!

20. random fact: idk... if yall couldnt tell and didnt already know this, i’m a linguist haha. i went to school for linguistics, i majored in linguistics and classics (latin, ancient greek, etc) though honestly i was only into the languages, roman and greek history is cool and all but not really what i’m most into. majoring in classics was a mistake lol but oh well. i didnt end up graduating though because of unrelated reasons.... adhd, depression, just a general sense that the way the whole system works just wasnt made for me and it didnt click with me and ive never been good at forcing myself to be good at school... and like i was tired of hearing from professors that i have��“a very organized mind when it comes to linguistics stuff” (something a greek professor said that meant a lot to me) or that i “understand how language works better than most other students my age” and that im a natural and that its impressive how nuanced my understanding of these concepts is.... while also failing or almost failing all of the classes whose professors said that about me. like basically all those statements were followed by a “, but” or a “, so if you just-”.... sigh. so i guess i’m not “actually” a linguist. whatever “actually” means there.

so other random fact i guess, which is still related but anyway... i have a conlang! that’s a constructed language. ive been working on a language for like 6 or 7 years. its at a state right now where it’s not really something i can just like... speak? it was at one point, maybe. but basically what i like to do is try out various ideas i have about language and phonology and morphology, so my language is kind of like a sandbox lol. if youre a scientist you conduct experiments, if youre a linguist i think you should try making a conlang. its not a common hobby but its something i spend an unconscionable amount of time thinking about lol. like basically 24/7. i’m almost always thinking about my word for x thing im seeing or thinking about, or like some sound change i heard that some language had, and how that would sound if applied to the words in my language...

like the reason my language isnt at a point right now where i can speak it is because getting into korean has made me think about massively reconfiguring how the grammar works. its always been kinda like latin and german, cause those are what i was taking when i started, and then it got kinda like ancient greek, so the grammar has/had a lot of complicated conjugations that are just honestly so superfluous... its such a mess lol... i have a much better understanding of how those systems come about in language now, so even if i remake my language to have verb conjugations like latin or greek, it’d be a much more coherent and natural system than the one thats existed in my language for years... but after learning about hungarian and korean in particular, i really wanna try making it a lot more logical like those languages are. but my big thing is phonology (speech sounds), so i just get hung up on sound changes and cool new consonants and vowels to add, so i keep putting off actually fixing my language lol. also ive become attached to my awful, amateurish words haha. im so bad at this... a real conlanger like tolkien or the dude who made the languages for game of thrones would look at mine and scoff haha. most of my words are just straight up stolen from words in latin, german, many others, but predominantly... english. i just mangle english words and call it my own lol, and ive been trying to replace those words with original ones that i made up arbitrarily... like my word for nose is just “nass” and my word for dog is “handir” which is just based on english “hound” and german “Hund” and stuff lol. i wanna change those

A/n: Longer chapter, but I’m super happy with the way it turned out and this’ll probably be the last part so i went all in.

Connor flinched a little when he heard the volume of his door closing, but simply shrugged it off as he threw his coat and bag onto thefloor, promptly flopping onto his bed and groaning into the pillows. He felt pretty bad about just leaving you at the library, but decided that it was best to collect his thoughts.

Connor sat up on his bed, his gaze fell on his laptop and he debated on talking to Jared and Evan and get their intake on the whole ordeal.

The three of them all shared a couple classes, and they had mutual ideas of who the other was, besides that one English project sort of forced them to all get along with one another and form their small friend group.

They weren’t close friends. But still, the two of them had a funny way of talking to each other that amused Connor, so they all would talk online more than in person.

“God dammit,” Connor mumbled, fetching his computer from his desk and sitting up on his bed.

He booted up the computer and pulled up chat and stared at yesterday’s conversation.It took him a solid five minutes before actually figuring out what the hell he was gonna write

Connor: Listen, I need opinions on something.

Only seconds after hitting enter Connor felt the overwhelming desire to cringe, this was going to be the most awkward conversation of his life.

Evan: Sure, what happend?

Jared: oh my god, are we all about to have a moment??

Connor rolled his eyes, Jared was probably his least favorite of the two, but he certainly had the better sense of humor.

Connor: hilarious, seriously though, i need help on this one.

So, he told them what all happened at the library down to the part where he ran away. Connor saw the annotations that both of them were typing and rubbed his forehead, all of this emotion bullshit was giving him a major headache.

Evan: That’s a lot of information, but I’m sure we can help you with it.

Jared: hoLY SHIT CONNOR MURPHY IS JEALOUS!

Jealous?

Now that didn’t sound right.

Connor was a lot of things, but jealous? Never.

Besides,what was there to be jealous of? You and him were friends and nothing more.

So, then why did it hurt so much to think about?

He shook his head and promptly carried on the conversation.

Connor: Absolutely not.

Jared: Bullshit, literally everything about that story points to jealousy, just let it happen man.

Evan: Well hold on, it coud be something else? Maybe it’s just because you don’t like this Tony guy.

Jared: nobody even knows who tony fucking is, why would that explanation make any sense, hansen?

Jared: You’re jealous and I’ll prove it, because word on the web is that (Y/n) and Tony went on a date tonight at the one bookshop next to the coffeehouse. It’s a total hipster’s wet dream but there are pictures and everything.

Connor reread the message a few times, his brain was taking bit longer to actually process what he was reading on the screen.

Connor: Well fine, why should I give a damn who she goes out with, it’s not like i care or anything. It’s whatever.

Connor made a small ‘hmph’ noise as he leanded against the headboard of his bed, he could feel the disappointment and minor anger getting to him the more he thought about it.

And at first, he really, honestly, and truthfully thought he could end it there and leave it at that.

But before he knew what was happening, his hands were harshly typing away on his keyboard.

Connor: i mean what the fuck does she see in him anyways? the dude looks like a discount Harry fucking Potter they’ve literally never spoken in person i hang out with her all the time and this is the first I’ve heard of any stupid fucking tony

Evan: I think you should calm down a little.

Connor barely even looked at the responses, because all of this pent up anger had been released and he was certifiably pissed.

Connor: the two of them were chatting up a. storm at the library and the dick even made her laugh like ten times but whatever i honestly couldnt care less so what if the ass doesn’t deserve her or care about her like i do. i’m perfectly Fine.

Evan: holy shit

Jared: um…okay.

Evan: I mean really, wow.

Connor looked back at what he had written, and immediately wanted to toss his computer out of his window before throwing it into the deepest depths of the ocean.

Something didn’t add up though.

Jared wasn’t particularly close to you, and he didn’t know Tony.

Connor: Hold on, how do you known they’re together?

Jared: oh yeah, i don’t.

Jared: I was just pulling on your dick because you were being a bitch about your big ole crush on (Y/n), only wanted you to own up to it. But then you just went oFF.

Connor blinked, admitting his feelings to himself was something he was never able or wanted to do. Maybe it was because you were his first real friend, and the idea of putting that at risk for some petty schoolgirl crush was something he didn’t want to do.

But looking back on it now, this was clearly something a lot deeper than that.

Doesn’t mean he wants to admit it.

Connor: Right, well uh, I’m gonna sleep on it.

He closed his laptop amd set it aside, situation himself so he could look up at his ceiling and think.

Connor Murphy liked you.

A lot.

That part was obvious.

He indulged himself a little, allowing his subconscious imagine what it would be like if the two of you got together. Honestly, it wouldn’t be much different. You and him were already so close, it practically felt like a romantic relationship.

Connor just couldn’t wrap his arms around you, or hold your hand whenever he wanted to, or kiss you.

But he’s getting ahead of himself.

Connor got worried.

Another hour passed and stilll not a thing.

But he was cool about it, it’s not like he was waiting on you to answer him.

What a fucking lie.

The boy was checking phone nearly every five minutes regardless of his ringer being on and at the highest volume.

Connor carried it with him everywhere checking to see if you had answered. His phone was practically glued to his hands, it went with him while he brushed his teeth, talking to the boys, or pacing around the room as he stared at the messenger

He was a mess.

I mean what the hell kind of teenager doesn’t have their phone on them 24/7? He even knew that you had least 15 ebooks downloaded onto your phone.

Another hour and nothing, dejected and a little hurt, Connor left his phone on the kitchen table to go outside and kick at some of the pile of leaves that had gathered in the backyard to get out his frustration.

Ten minutes and scattered leaves all over the place, Cynthia showed up at the back door. “Connor! Your photo went off!” She called, holding the phone out to him.

Connor nearly ran his mom over when he ran past her, snatching the phone out of her hands.

“Thanks, love you, I’ll be in m room!” Connor said, far too quickly for her to understand.

Once he was alone, Connor looked down at the screen and got the biggest smile on his when we saw you had finally replied.

(Y/n): Sorry, I was reading. But I can meet you in 10??

Connor managed to reply, put on his jacket, and tell his mom where he was going in the matter of minutes before he was out the door.

You were already there whenever Connor came sprinting down the walking path, you smiled at his unkempt hair and the way the curls went absolutely everywhere.

Jared had told you Connor only started letting grow out over the summer, but you had a hard time imagining him without his long hair.

You had grown fond of it.

“There you are,” You said, giving him a smile when he came up to you.

Connor gave you a breathless laugh, and you could see how rosy his cheeks had gotten from both the exercise and the cold.

Speaking of which, you noticed that his jacket was far too thin for the kind of weather that was happening right now. Winter was on the horizon so the temperatures kept getting colder by the day.

“Hey, come here,” You said, beckoning him with your hand until he was standing right in front of you. “That jacket isn’t gonna do you any good, take this.”

Connor saw that you were beginning to take off your thick wool scarf and his hands went out to stop you before he stopped himself and awkwardly shoved him into his pockets.

“N-No, no, don’t do that, keep it.”

“Stop trying to act all tough and just take the scarf,” You ordered him sternly. “I don’t need you whining to me when you get a cold.”

He expected you to hand the scarf to him, so picture his surprised look when your hands gently went around his neck to put it on for him.

He could feel the coldness of your skin when your fingers softly brushed against the base of his neck and it made him involuntarily shiver at the sensation. Your perfume still lingered in the material of the scarf and he was suddenly completely wrapped in the feeling of you. It overloaded his senses amd he felt heat crawl up on his cheeks.

"Thank you,” Connor said, coughing to cover up how flustered he was.

You smiled before backing away from him. “So, what did you summon me here for?”

Oh, yeah.

Connor sighed, momentarily forgetting what he was doing. “I wanted to tell you something important.”

“Go on then, I’m all yours.”

He looked at you for a moment, his brain suddenly coming to a blank about what he had rehearsed saying to you. The words were meant in a nonchalant way, but it made his head go in a million different directions.

So much for the plan.

Connor’s hands fumbled together as he trie to figure out how to word his feelings without sounding like a total idiot. “I uh, I totally understand if you don’t feel the same..,” He trailed off, eyes looking up at you for a minute before a minuscule smile formed on his face. “But it would be really nice if you did.”

He settled his gaze on you again and instantly regretted everything once he saw the soft expression on your face. Did he sound stupid and that was some kind of look of pity.

“Of course I feel the same, stupid.” You said, wondering how he missed all the signs you had been giving him.

“Seriously?” Connor asked, feeling a smile grow whenever he saw you nod. “Well that’s good.”

Shut up you sound stupid

There was a short moment of silence before he spoke up again. “You know, your hands are really cold, give ‘em here,” Connor said, taking your both hands in his and tucking them under the scarf. “Better?“

“Better.” You replied, looking up at him to see him smile.

Connor examined your features up close, all the small freckles down the bridge of your nose and little imperfections one could only see if they were really looking at you.

You noticed him subconsciously leaning in towards you, your noses barely brushing against each other. You retracted your hands from him, on to place them around his neck as you leaned up to kiss him.

His hands reacted by wrapping his hands around you, resting them on your shoulder blades before pulling you closer.

Borh of your lips were chapped, and there was little movement from either of you, but it was warm and sweet and it just felt right.

Connor had every intention on keeping you there for awhile but you pulled back and looked at him with wide eyes, though he still had you tucked into his arms.

Connor took the opportunity to place a tender kiss on your cheek before letting you make your call.

Oh, yeah.

Connor Murphy liked kissing you.

A lot.

I am so, so sorry I’m such trash! I don’t necessarily feel great about this chapter so come tell me what you loved and hated about it!

TW medical shit (you should know this by now of course) and way too many descriptions of medical shit that no one wants or asked for but my brain felt compelled to include.

Chapter 172

Adore’s POV

This was heaven. I was sitting behind Vi who leaned against me on the couch. I was peppering their soft bald head, that was just under my chin, with kisses while they giggled. They had a book open in one hand and their other hand was wrapped around my neck and running their fingers through the little bit of my hair that had grown back. They sighed happily.

Their phone ringing shattered the peace we had created for the past hour and they groaned.

“Hello?” Violet listened for a minute and sat up abruptly, their book falling to the floor. Their brow furrowed with concern, I could faintly hear a hysterical sounding voice coming from the phone. “Pearl calm down! I can hardly understand you!” Vi crossed their legs and leaned in on themselves, looking upset as they listened. “WHAT? Oh my God no! Is she ok?”

Vi listened for what felt like forever and then sighed, “I’m glad she’s resting right now, have her call me when she wakes up. Maybe I can convince her to go to the hospital. Of course I won’t tell her that. Are YOU ok?”

They listened some more while I ran my fingers lightly up and down their tensed back. “I’m so sorry Pearly.” They murmured, “ok, I understand. Make her call me when she wakes up ok? Thank you for telling me. Ok bye love.”

Vi pressed the off button on their phone and leaned into me, snaking their arms around my middle. I just held onto them while they collected themselves.

“What happened babe?” I asked after a few minutes. I pulled a blanket over them.

“You can’t tell ANYONE! Promise?” They pulled away to look into my eyes, their own pleading.

“I promise. What’s wrong?” They leaned into me again.

“Fame was attacked.” Violet mumbled, their face squished against my chest.

“WHAT?! Is she hurt? What happened?”

“Pearl was really upset, it’s tearing her up inside. I’ve never heard her in such a state. Fame’s face is a little banged up but it’s her ribs that Pearl is worried about. Fame won’t tell anyone what really happened, other than Pearl and Phi Phi. She won’t go to the hospital because they will know she didn’t fall. Pearl says she has a giant boot shaped bruise on her side.”

My stomach lurched painfully, “well fuck! So Pearl thinks you can convince her to go?”

“Yes but Fame can’t know that we know! She left the restaurant because she was having a panic attack and then told everyone she fell chasing after an injured animal. She wouldn’t have even told Pearl and Phi Phi if they hadn’t seen the bruise.”

“And people bought that?” I asked, surprised that people like B and Willam wouldn’t pick up on the blatant lie.

They shrugged into me, “I don’t know if they are buying it or just not saying anything. Michelle is very suspicious, she pulled Phi Phi aside to try to get the scoop.”

I let out a little chuckle, “of COURSE Michelle is suspicious! I would be really concerned if she wasn’t. She’s gonna figure it out though.”

“Probably, I guess Fame is pretty jumpy. She had another panic attack in the bunk last night and Pearl said she passed out when they were getting the story out of her. She couldn’t catch her breath.”

“Oh God! That’s so scary! You gotta convince her to go!” They nodded into my chest. I just held them close, rubbing their back. “I’m going to reschedule my Drs appointment for today.”

“No, don’t do that.” They whined. Of course they didn’t know that I didn’t actually have an appointment, that I was really planning a surprise for them so it wouldn’t be a big deal to reschedule when I went.

“No, I don’t want you to be alone. I know it’s going to be hard for you to try to convince Fame and I don’t want you to be here alone if you’re upset.” I rubbed my hands up and down their arms, they were so cold. “Here,” I pulled down my hoodie from the back of the couch and pulled it onto them, “you’re freezing.” I pulled the hood up and tied it under their chin as they gave me a dorky grin. “You’re so beautiful.” I kissed the tip of their nose. “You are so strong.” I kissed their forehead. “I love you so much.”

They closed the gap between our lips, I brought my hands around their waist to rest on the small of their back, pulling them closer. Their arms wrapped around my neck as our tongues hungrily explored each other's mouths. They tasted like coffee and chocolate and I needed to touch them. Skin on skin, I snaked my hands up the back of their shirt, their skin was like warm silk to the touch. I ran my hands up and down their slender sides. They moaned into me at the contact and I smiled into the kiss. We sat suspended in time and space, that's what happened when they kissed me.

I pulled my hands out from their back and they let out a plaintive whine at the back of their throat at the loss of contact.

I put a hand on each side of their face as my gaze met their deep dark brown eyelash-less eyes. Their pupils were expanded and their cheeks flushed rosy red.

“Wait,” I said just as they were leaning back into me with a one sided grin, “you’re so hot.”

“You aren't too bad yourself mister!” They replied playfully with a wink.

I put my hand on their forehead and frowned, “Well you are but, I didn't mean it like that this time. You are burning up love.”

“I’m fine, you worry too much. I feel fine aside from a touch of cancer.” They pulled me back in but now that I had noticed it, their lips were hot as fire and they were shivering. They pulled us apart reluctantly.

“On second thought, I think I...I might need you to get s...suh...someone.” They stuttered out, going totally white other than the two cherry red patches on their cheeks.

I don’t think I’ve ever moved so quickly in my entire life. I scooped them up, aghast at how their head flopped backwards until their hands scrabbled around my neck and they were able to hold on as I ran out to the hallway with them still gathered up in my arms. I didn't want to leave them alone for a second.

“Matt! Where’s Matt!” I yelled out and Violet jumped and let out a groan in protest at the volume of my voice.

“Ugh, why is this happening?” Vi whined weakly.

“I don’t know sweetie! I don't know! HELP ME!” I hollered as Matt sprinted around the corner.

“What’s going on?” Matt said, dragging the med cart and beckoning me to follow him back into Vi’s room. I laid them gently on their bed, they curled towards Matt into the fetal position with their knees to their chest, shivering violently.

“They got really warm and flushed all of a sudden. It happened out of nowhere. They were totally fine one minute and not the next.”

Matt zipped around, pulling their arm out of their sweater, attaching a blood pressure cuff and pulse ox onto their finger. He took Vi’s temperature, looked at the various machines and frowned.

“Vi?” Matt spoke loudly, they didn't even flinch at the noise. “JASON?” Matt put a hand on their shoulder and leaned close to their ear. “Does anywhere hurt? Do you have pain anywhere?”

Vi nodded the slightest bit but stayed tight in a ball.

“Can you point to where?” They didn't move, they were so pale, eyes fluttering as they tried to stay conscious. “Come on Jason, can you point to where your worst pain is?”

Vi nodded again and it seemed to take a superhuman effort for them to drag their arm in and place their splayed fingers over their heart. Which made mine stop.

“What’s going on? Oh God! Is it their heart again?” I panicked.

“One second,” Matt said tersely, unlocking the medcart and pulling out some syringes. “Can you lie on your back for me Hun?”

Vi didn't respond so Matt and I were about to move them when their arms and legs jerked out and went rigid for the longest 10 seconds of my life. They relaxed and sucked in a big gulp of air, they turned their head to look at me and I cupped their sweaty cheek. I reached and grabbed one of my t-shirts and splashed part of a bottle of water on it and wiped their brow.

“It's gonna be ok love. Just stay with me.”

Matt pulled down their shirt to look at their chest, peeling back a corner of the bandage over their central line. He scowled again and went back to the med cart, rummaging around and bringing back some more supplies. He tossed a bunch of those instant ice packs on the bed, he cracked one in each hand before shaking them and putting them on their head.

“Take their sweater off and put some of these on that side but keep talking to them for right now Danny,” Matt encouraged. I put both hands on their cheeks to keep them from looking at Matt, who was deftly putting an IV in their hand. Vi barely winced, their eyes swam in their head as if they were unable to focus. Matt took 2 vials of blood and then pushed about 5 different meds through. I kept one hand on their cheek and took an ice pack and smacked it off my hip, surprised at how quickly it got cold. Matt and I packed ice under their armpits and behind their head.

“I’m so tired, I don’t understand what happened? And why does everything look so melty?” Vi whined, looking around with saucer sized eyes that were filling with tears.

“Close your eyes Vi, what you are seeing isn’t real, it’s your fever playing tricks on your eyes. Rest is best love.” Matt soothed.

Violet pulled my hand into theirs, looking scared and small, “will you stay with me Danny?”

“I’m not going anywhere love. Close your eyes, I'm right here.” Vi’s eyes fluttered shut and they sighed, their hand relaxed almost immediately.

“Matt, what the fuck just happened?”

“Their broviac line is infected, the thing with people on chemo is their immune system is pretty damaged so when they get an infection it takes a while for the immune system to react and when it does, everything progresses pretty rapidly. I'll send a swab and this blood to the lab but in the meantime, I gave them the strongest general antibiotic I could and when we find out what it is, we’ll hit it with a more targeted drug. I threw every fever reducer I could at them since their fever spiked so quickly.”

“Why did they get all stiff like that?”

“It doesn't happen much in adults but sometimes a really fast, high fever will cause someone’s brain to short circuit and make them have a seizure.”

“Oh my God!” I felt all the blood drain from my face.

“No, no, please don't worry Danny! Like I said, it’s a freak occurrence. It’s the brain's way of self balancing. I’ll send these off to the lab, it could still take a day or two for the cultures to grow to tell us exactly what it is. In the meantime, we’ll keep them on general antibiotics until then. The bloodwork will also tell us if the infection has reached their bloodstream which is obviously NOT something we want. The other NP on today is Abby if you need help. I'll let Dr B know what happened and be right back.”

He zipped out of the room while I mopped Vi’s brow and tried to remember what an NP was. I knew it was a nurse that could basically prescribe meds and order tests when necessary and they had to do extra schooling, Matt had somehow managed to do night classes amongst his already grueling schedule. Being a NP also meant more responsibility and a pay increase.

Vi thrashed about in their sleep, a look of pain and worry shifted across their face. They reached out their hand in front of them and muttered my name.

“I’m here Hun, shhh Jason, I’m right here.” I pulled their hand into mine and pressed my lips on their still-too-warm forehead. They calmed immediately.

“I’ll be right here.” I promised.
