How the dub script fails Nina The Starry Bride specifically
I want to call the English dub script adaptation out specifically. Flipping through the manga for vollume 3 reminded me that the author notes at the end deliberately explain the modern language choice was chosen for this fantasy series. Part of the significant issues with the dub script that are affecting the performances of the cast are word choice leading to incredibly awkward sounding sentences. It's important to be familiar with the tone and world of series when writing, especially if adapting something from another language. The overall formal language lead to the kings character coming off entirely wrong in several scenes where he should of been warm and informal with Nina. While the performance itself was lacking, the script certainly didn't help. Decides like what kind of language to use are often intentional and help flesh out fantasy worlds. Deliberately changing things from the more modern language of the manga can lead things not being portrayed as they should. It's important to know a series aesthetic properly instead of reducing it a trope based on your own assumptions.
Please never use a trash word like respite in this series ever again. Literally bottom of the barrel word choice. Have to complain about that word specifically cause it's been bothering me since I had the misfortune of hearing it leave Azure's lips

The Guardians of The Galaxy Vollume 3
Galaksinin Koruyucuları” serisinin son filmi hakkında söyleyeceklerim var. Bu film, High Evolutionary (Yüksek Evrimsel) adında kötü karakter Adam Warlock’u Rocket Racoon’u geri almaya Hiçbiryer isimli Galaksinin Koruyucuların ikamet ettiği bölgeye göndermesi ile başlıyor. Roket Racoon (Roket Rakun) bu çatışmada yaralanıyor ve eğer kalbindeki cihazın devre dışı bırakıladığı durumda 48 saat içinde…

“The primary message regarding the reaction to the breaking of law in the superhero mythos is that, as indicated in the previous section, law and order must be maintained and certain behavior must be controlled. Eagan (1987) claims that the Superman mythos derives from the traditional American presumption that “the purpose of government is to maintain law and order, to police” and “to regulate behavior” (p. 91). These presumptions are integral to both Superman’s and Batman’s roles as crime-fighters. [...]
The superhero mythos depicts a fanciful world of perfect heroes and colorful villains but also depicts a world reflecting the dominant values of American society. Such a depiction is by no means unintentional. Take, for example, the comics code enacted by the Comics Code Authority in 1954:
In every instance good shall triumph over evil and the criminal punished for his misdeeds.
Crimes shall never be presented in such a way as to promote distrust in the forces of law and justice….
All lurid, unsavory, gruesome illustrations shall be eliminated.
All situations dealing with the family unit should have as their ultimate goal the protection of the children and family life. In no way shall the breaking of the moral code be depicted as rewarding.
(Comics Code Authority, 1954 as cited in Boichal, 1991, p. 13)
It is clear that the Comics Code Authority knew the impact that the superhero mythos might have on those who were exposed to it. In many of the Superman and Batman stories over the decades, the superheroes almost come straight out and say “CRIME DOESN’T PAY!” While the mythos of Superman and the mythos of Batman present different perspectives of the law (Superman tells us that the law is to be respected; Batman tells us that law is to be feared), they are ultimately saying the same thing: Don’t break the law!
But what, specifically, does the superhero mythos tell us about crime and justice in American society? The representation of crime and justice in the superhero mythos is predominantly derived from a conservative or “right” oriented perspective (as evidenced in the aforementioned comics code). The best way to outline what we learn from the superhero mythos is in the context of Miller’s thorough discussion of ideology and criminal justice (1973). In discussing the ideology of the “right” or conservative perspective of crime and justice, Miller identifies five “crusading issues”: (1) “excessive leniency toward lawbreakers,” (2) “favoring the welfare and rights of lawbreakers over the welfare and rights of their victims, of law enforcement officials, and the law abiding citizen,” (3) “erosion of discipline and of respect for constituted authority,” (4) “the cost of crime,” and (5) “excessive permissiveness” (1973, p. 143). These “crusading issues” of the political “right” are virtually mirrored by the crusades of the superhero mythos.
The messages portrayed in the comic book superhero mythos are clear. We are being told that we must preserve the status quo, or, as Superman might put it, “democracy and the American way”; threats to the status quo must be extinguished. We are presented with a world in which there is clearly right and wrong, good and evil. Good must prevail and social order must be maintained. The dominant hegemony is safe in the hands of the comic book superhero.”
- “The portrayal of crime and justice in the comic book superhero mythos,” Scott Vollum, Cary Adkinson

Disclaimer: This post will strictly explore Germany’s character in canon. It does not explore nor make the Holy Rome = Germany assumption.
Misconception: He’s gruff, mean, stand-offish, and curt to the point of being rude.
Reality: He’s sweet and considerate but is very poor at expressing himself. He lacks socialization skills and can also come off as too formal.
Germany’s main complex is that he comes off as angry to others when he actually isn’t.
Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 1.
Ex: He asks out Italy for drinks after a training session, and Italy interprets him as being angry.
Source: Hetarchive, Comic Diary 4.
Ex: He has trouble smiling. The consequence of this is that others are afraid of his domineering appearance.
Source: Hetarchive, Christmas 2010 Event.
However, he’s able to smile when he’s drunk.
Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 1.
Ex: He’s so poor at socializing that he needs to rely on manuals for things such as friendship, romance, and even how to smile.
Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 7 + Hetarchive, Buon San Valentino Series (mentioned).
Ex: He absolutely loves dogs.
Source: Volume 5.
Ex: He loves baking, especially with his friends. He has an entire character song dedicated to this, titled “Ich liebe…”
Source: Hetascanlatoins, World Stars Chapter 33.
Misconception: He was a Nazi and rooted himself in the fascist cause.
Reality: It’s complicated...
I know this sounds bad, but something I always want to emphasize is the need for contextualization.
I’ll be upfront by saying that technically Germany was a Nazi but superficially and through force. Addressing the second part, he did not support the fascist regime at all.
Let’s unpack this.
For one thing, nations in the series are obligated to adhere to their bosses’ orders.
Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 97.
Ex: Germany is sent all over as Hitler’s lapdog and seems to be used to being screamed at.
Source: Hetarchive, Hetare 4: Pact of Steel.
The series doesn’t explicitly name Hitler, instead describing his as strange in a euphemistic manner; he’s also said to be suffering from boss troubles—remember that the series’ satirical and comedic genre constrains what historical material it can cover.
Source: Hetarchive, Hetare 5: Lietuvis.
Ex: Although Finland is joking in the strip, it’s hinted that Hitler would have been capable of imprisoning Germany should he have disobeyed his orders.
Source: Ibid.
Things get complicated when Germany is asked to annex Austria. He vehemently opposes but is threatened into doing so. We then see him holding up propaganda at a booth with Nazi insignia that promotes the annexation.
Source: The Austrian Anschluus + Comic Diary 7 (mentioned).
This anti-fascist narrative is further elaborated on when Germany describes his daily life as torture and equates torture in a POW camp to a mere mosquito bite. In other words, Germany’s daily life in Nazi Germany isn’t glorified; it’s instead equated to a living hell for him. He’s respectively said to be tolerating his days through pain.
Source: Volume 1, Hetarchive, Hetare 5: Lietuvis.
Not only that, but Hetalia is also anti-war.
Ex: Germany is shown reflecting on how miserable he is at war. He then later agrees to a temporary truce with England on Christmas Eve, where the two play soccer.
Source: Volume 3.
For longer posts with more extensive evidence on how Hetalia as a series is anti-war and anti-imperialist, please go here [x] [x] [x].
Misconception: He’s so straight-laced that he can’t take a break.
Reality: He’s so straight-laced that he schedules his breaks.
Ex: Germany actually loves vacations and is more than capable of taking breaks.
Source: Hetascanlations Chapter 7 & 216 + Vollume 6.
Bonus facts:
The greatest hint of the Holy Rome = Germany connection lies in the Buon San Valentino strips. Germany blacks out and appears to recollect a fuzzy image of Chibitalia, suggesting that it might, in fact, be a repressed memory of his.
Source: Hetarchive, Buon San Valentino pt 3.
He’s a germaphobe and neat freak.
Source: Volume 1.
He first meets Italy during WW1.
Source: Volume 1.
He was originally based off a German acquaintance of Himaruya.

I turned my brother into a BTS fanboy, I'm so proud.
So my brother is 11years old and autistic and we were driving home when we started talking about music. I brought up kpop and he asked me what it was so I told him it was Korean pop and I asked him if he wanted to listen to it. He told me "No! I'm American, I don't want to listen to Korean Music!!!"
I told him, "is that so" and I plugged my phone in and played BTS's song We Are Bullet Proof AND not 3 lines into the song he goes, "It seems I was mistaken! TURN IT UP TO MAX VOLLUME!!" So obviously like a good sister I did. He loved it and then I showed him some of their other songs and now he's a huge fan.

Oh apparently the human half stops in the novels after like vollume 3 and the spider half keeps going with the goal of having them be in sync and merge later
I finished the So I'm A Spider, So What? Anime and fuck me it sucked. Like the last episode was the most interesting episode of the whole series which sucked because the other episodes were mediocre and confusing as hell

Oh and multiples of two for the oc specific question thing if you want :3
Sure thing, you didn’t specify which character so I’ll do both Jake and Raya and as a bonus Cassie who I haven’t officially added to the list yet.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
2. Say your OC made a playlist on Spotify. What bands would be on that playlist? Any specific genres?
Raya: Raya would most likely have a little bit of everything in her playlist, some picks from recent charts, a few tunes that were a big hit during her childhood, some tracks from movie soundtracks. There is nothing specific about her taste in music. She also organized her playlists, one for when she works on her photos which consists or mostly calm songs to help her concentrate, one with more upbeat, fast paced titles which she plays when she cleans her apartment to get going and so on.
Jake: Jake would have things like Coldplay and U2 in his playlist. Maybe a little bit of Imagine Dragons too. He’s also got a playlist of just strong instrumental pieces on his phone which he listens to when he’s out jogging, he finds songs with lyrics too distracting for that.
Cassie: She’s a bit of a nerd, her music collection consists mostly of video game and movie soundtracks. Also Lady Gaga.
4. What would their favorite cartoons be, and why? What would their favorite characters be?
Raya: Growing up Raya liked things like Recess, her favourite character being Spinelli.
Jake: Little Jake was a sucker for Spongebob, much to his sister’s dislike. He really liked Gary, though Spongebob came a close second.
Cassie: Cassie watched about any cartoon that was on when she wasn’t outside playing somewhere. She liked the clever, brainiac characters.
6. If they're a fan of Hot Chocolate, Tea, or Coffee, how do they like either of those drinks prepared?
Raya: Raya loves coffee, she drinks it with a tiny bit of sugar and some milk. She also enjoys hot chocolate but only during autumn/winter to warm up after spending time out in the cold. Marshmellows are always welcome in her hot cocoa. However, she doesn’t like tea, at all. The only time she voluntarily would drink tea is when she’s really ill and even then it’s rare.
Jake: Jake could have a cup of hot chocolate at any time. He isn’t much of a coffee person, the bitter taste putting him off. Tea is okay, he prefers things like mint tea.
Cassie: Cassie likes all three equally. She drinks her coffee with tons of milk and sometimes even adds a bit of milk to her tea too.
8. How does your OC keep track of time? Do they have a planner? A calendar?
Raya: Raya uses a planner to keep track of work related things, for important stuff she does set an additional reminder in her phone though, just to make sure.
Jake: Jake uses a calendar the old school way. He’s got a huge one on his bedroom wall where he keeps track of everything he needs to remember.
Cassie: Cassie prefers to use her phone to alert her of things. She also uses sticky notes all over her desk.
10. What's their favorite time of day?
Raya: She loves the quiet hours of the evening/early night.
Jake: Jake is an absolute morning person. He’s usually up at sunrise, enjoying the start of a new day.
Cassie: She’s a noon/afternoon person.
12. If they were an actual character in an animated film or TV series, who would they be voiced by? Do they have a certain accent that the person would need to perfect? (I really haven’t thought about this and cannot think of any voice actors so I’ll talk about their speech pattern instead? Or at least something like that)
Raya: Her speech varies, she usually speaks at a medium speed in average vollume if she’s either all excited or pissed off about something she’ll talk a lot faster than usual and also louder.
Jake: He speaks with near perfect pronouncation, unless he’s with his friends then he let’s it slide, blending in with the guys. His voice is rather low so he talks rather quietly.
Cassie: Cassie’s voice is fairly high pitched, she usually talks a little faster than most people. She used to stutter a little as a kid and sometimes it still comes through.
14. If your OC owned a Tumblr blog, what kind of content would they post?
Raya: She would posts photography and motivational things.
Jake: He would probably forget about his blog or lose interest fast. So his Tumblr would be an abandoned collection of random memes, soccer things and a few video game fanart pieces.
Cassie: Cassie would post video game reviews along with a few recipes and a couple of DIY things.
16. If your OC was a film director, what kind of movies would they make?
Raya: Probably documentaries about nature or travel. Or thrillers.
Jake: Sports related movies based on real events.
Cassie: Comedy
18. What type of singing voice does your OC have? (Oh god, another voice one.)
Raya: Raya sings in a rather low voice, she’s got trouble reaching high notes so she avoids them alltogether. She only sings when she’s alone anyways.
Jake: He doesn’t quite care about how off key he sings, he does it for fun.
Cassie: Cassie isn’t much into singing, instead she usually just hums along to a song.
20. Was your OC inspired by anything? Another character? A person?
Not really, actually. A few things about Raya were inspired by myself to make her an easy character to use in roleplays and such for me.
