I'm rereading Valiant (again) and truly nothing will ever hit as hard as the entirety of chapter 39

now departing for wip wed!
I'm so glad you asked. This is the first little section of it. I hope you like it.
:]
...
The Pevensie siblings are children again.
Three hours ago, back in Spare Oom, the Pevensies found themselves sprawled on the floor in an undignified heap, in bodies as new as they were old and in minds as calm as they were tumultuous. Now, huddled together in the bedroom the Professor had long ago assigned to Edmund and Peter, they’re trying to figure out what to do next.
Mrs. Macready is listening at the door, ears tuned sharply in an attempt to glean any sort of information that will help her understand why the children aren’t being heavily reprimanded for breaking a window, but no one is talking.
Peter and Lucy sit huddled up against the headboard of his bed while Edmund and Susan sit apart on the other. A numb silence perforates the air as four minds, now changed and childlike, slowly process what just happened.
When Mrs. Macready gives up on eavesdropping and her receding footsteps fade deep into the house, Peter speaks, sounding unsure and a bit incredulous.
  “We were kings.”
Edmund nods. “Ahtahm-lah morar, aeyar, volar.”
   We were kings, queens, royalty.
“We are,” Lucy says firmly. Confident royal valiance sounds out of place in her youthful tone.
“Are we?” asks Susan. “Are we still royalty? Even here?”
“It doesn’t matter if we are,” Peter says, his voice soft and quiet. “If we act like it, who’s to say we aren’t?”
Silence washes over them again, and for a while, breathing is all they can manage to do. Lucy curls up to Peter even tighter, a habit she had never grown out of, even as a queen, and whispers, “I feel like I’m already forgetting it.”
Susan comes over and joins them on Peter’s bed, pulling them close and pressing a kiss to Lucy’s hair. “I know what you mean,” she says quietly, “It’s as if it was all a very vivid daydream. Like I imagined growing up.”
“It’s as if I’m recalling a memory,” Edmund says. “And I can touch it, hold it, see it. I can remember everything about it, but I can’t quite remember what it feels like to experience.”
“It feels like a story I daydreamed,” Peter says.
“I feel like a child,” says Lucy tearfully. “I am a child.”
Peter pokes her nose and smiles sadly. “At least you’re not going through puberty yet,” he jokes weakly.
This draws a little laugh out of Susan, but Lucy’s face crumples even more. “I don’t even remember what that means.”
   Edmund blinks suddenly. “Me neither.”
“That’s funny,” Susan ponders curiously. “Lucy, do you know where babies come from?”
Peter pushes her arm, looking scandalized. “Susan,” he grits out. “She’s a baby.”
“I’m testing a theory, Peter, calm down. Lucy?”
Lucy shakes her head, “I don’t remember. Mum told me there was a stork involved, but I know that’s not right.”
“Well, that settles it,” Edmund throws up his hands in frustration. “We really are kids again. I can’t remember either.”
  “Nothing?” Susan pushes. “Not even-”
“Susan,” Peter emphasizes, shooting her a sharp look.
Susan concedes with a roll of her eyes.
Lucy asks the most prominent question in a soft, halting tone. “Do you think we’ll ever go back?”
“Yes,” says Peter sharply. Then, almost pleadingly, “we have to.”
“Maybe we can,” adds Edmund hopefully. “Maybe the wardrobe still works.”
“I don’t think so,” Lucy says mournfully. “I don’t want to believe it, but I just... I have a feeling.”
Peter pulls her closer and she promptly dissolves into silent tears. It’s strange to see their baby sister cry so quietly. When Lucy was eight years old, before Narnia, before war, before victory, she would let her sadness out as loudly as she pleased. Maybe it was to keep up appearances, or perhaps she simply grew out of the habit, but Queen Lucy the Valiant didn’t make noise when she cried.
But Queen Lucy the Valiant is a thing of the past. Queen Lucy the Valiant, though the memory of her is still clear and crisp, has left Narnia. And outside Narnia she’s just little Lucy Pevensie, who no longer cries like the eight-year-old she is.
They sleep in the boys’ room that night, piled together on Peter’s bed and clinging to each other for comfort as they dream of their lost home.
...

Plymouth constructeur automobiles Américain fondée en 1928
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking for Christmas gift ideas? There’s only one thing the gearhead in your life wants, and it’s not Soviet research chemicals for recreational use. Rather than get them the normal boring socket set, useless pile of battery-operated impact tools, or “Renault Dauphine Parking Only” signs for the garage, get them some better lighting.
When I get down and dirty with a real job, I do most of it by feel. That’s not because I’m a bad-ass professional who wishes to commune more naturally with the car, it’s because I have crappy lighting and can’t see shit anyway. If someone were to come by and offer me, say, some decent floor-mounted flood lights, that would be a very nice gift indeed. Standing there and holding the light so it’s actually pointing somewhere useful? That’s practically an act of sainthood.
Lighting is one of those things that you can never get enough of. Even if one corner of your garage is so scaldingly bright that the daycare across the street took out a restraining order for protection, chances are that corner is not where you just dropped the adjuster bolt for your rear parking brake. And you need all kinds of different formats of lighting, for all the different problems. For instance, I can’t really drag my el-cheapo LED trouble light into the car when I’m pulling interior trim. There’s no metal for the magnet to click onto, and also I melted the plastic lens on it by accidentally spraying it with brake cleaner last week.
Now, does this gift idea involve intensely studying someone’s work area? Yes. Is there a massive risk that you will be asked to hold some tools, or help out? Absolutely. Will you attempt to kill yourself after the third consecutive hour of having the difference between a Valiant and a Volare explained to you? At least if you do, the cops won’t have to bring out so many crime scene lights.

Me extraño
como si fuera us presa
me olvidó quien era
ahora me arrepiento
Extraño peinar a mi papá
ahora el no me puede ni hablar
Yo sigo buscando alguien a quien amar

The original Dodge Dart and Plymouth Valiant were quite different cars - the Valiant a compact entry aimed at imports and the OG Dart a low-cost, befinned full-size that gave Dodge dealers an entry-level car as Chrysler tried to rework its distribution network - taking Plymouth franchises away in 1959-60 from Dodge dealers that had sold them the depression. - Shuffling the network created a situation where Plymouth often ended up competing with Dodge, and Dodge dealers wanted a proper “compact.” They got one - a rebadged Valiant called the Lancer, for 1961. When it came time to restyle the pair in 1964, #Dodge dropped the Lancer name in favor of “Dart,” a name associated with “smaller” Dodges. - In 1967 the Valiant and Dart were given a full restyle that would serve for 10 seasons and carry #ChryslerCorporation through the worst of its 1974-5 cash crunch. But this generation of Valiant was also emblematic of an underlying problem stemming from Dodge Vs. Plymouth competition - properly differentiating the two. - At first, Chrysler did a good job. From ’67-’70, the Dart and Valiant had been separated mainly by Dodge getting the pretty hardtop coupe and more plebian Plymouth getting a 2-door sedan; with different (but closely related) styling on each model and the Dart sedan being slightly larger. Dodge also had performance models while that turf at Plymouth was covered mainly by the Valiant-derived Barracuda. - In the 1970s, these differences fell away - particularly after the late 1973 addition of impact bumpers, and the loss of the performance models (the Duster and Dart Sport remained as holdouts, sort of). Instead, they were now pitched as “economy” cars - and the 225-cid Slant Six did actually return good gas mileage (25-30 on the highway). Exciting they weren’t, but they were reliable and cheap, particularly the sixes. The 318 V8 also remained available, though it only returned about 15-18 mpg.  - With Chrysler short on cash, the Dart/Valiant’s replacements, the 1976 Aspen and Volare, were virtually identical, to Plymouth’s detriment. The old cars were such good sellers, however, that they continued one more year - with 1976 Darts selling alongside Aspens. https://www.instagram.com/p/BpSEqTWF8pK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ii1vkotpf7uf

Valiant characters in The Dragon Prince AU for the AU ask game?
Saville is human-- mostly. Her mother was a Moonshadow elf who her father, despite all the prejudice, fell for and married. They lived in a town on the Xadian side of the Breach that welcomed both elves and humans until Saville's mother died. Then they moved back to the town of Reggen in the kingdom of Duren
Galen is the cousin of the Lord Mayor of Reggen, Eldin. He also works for one of Eldin's main advisors, Cinnan, and is fascinated by Xadia, though he doesn't publicize this much
He's also the first one to figure out that Saville Gramton, daughter of Eldin's new tailor, is half Elven. It's not obvious, but Galen sees things. He sees a lot, including the things that Saville and her father try to hide. But he keeps her secret, and also asks her a LOT of questions about it
Will is an elf. He's not supposed to be in Duren, and he regrets ending up there. It's not the best place for a Sunfire elf, especially not after the recent deaths in Katolis and the other kingdoms. Saville and Galen find him, and work together to hide him from vengeful townspeople such as Leymonn, who would happily see any elves dead, and himself with the title of Lord Mayor (Leymonn also has suspicions about Saville, which complicates the situation even more)
Galen and Saville find an unexpected ally in Eldin's sister, Lissa. She helps them hide Will, and when things come to a head in Reggen, helps them make a run for it to Xadia, where Saville hopes to find family who can help them. Luckily for them, they end up with a friend who's willing to help them search-- an Earthblood mage known as Volar, who's magic is strong enough that the rocks speak to him, and he can hear the truth in a human's voice

Plymouth Valiant Radios
The compact Plymouth Valiant was produced in the US from 1960 – 1976. At times, models included 4-door sedans, 2-door sedans, hardtops, convertibles and station wagons. The Valiant was replaced in 1977 by the Plymouth Volare.

“Why don’t you call it Volaré,” said Chrysler product planner Norm Christy. “It means, ‘To fly.’” Plymouth’s twin to the F-body Dodge Aspen, had originally been called Vail, matching the Aspen’s name as the cars matched each other, but that name was changed to “Cygnet” in the early stages, then rejected by management. The new cars were replacements for the circa-1967 Dart/Valiant, and ChryCo wanted to lower the age of Valiant buyers (then over 50). - Plymouth’s ad agency loved Volaré (Voh-Lah-Ray). With that name they had a built in hit song of the same name to advertise the car - Volaré had first been a U.S. hit for Dean Martin and was later covered many artists - including Italian crooner Sergio Franchi, then headlining in Vegas. Thus began a flashy and expensive campaign of introducing the Volaré in early 1976, Plymouth even issued an LP of ten Franchi hits that dealers gave out. - The F-cars were introduced part way through 1976, with the Dart/Valiant continuing on alongside for a few months. The fanciest Volaré was the Premier, replacing the surprise success Valiant Brougham. Like the (U.S.) Ford Granada/Mercury Monarch it was aimed at, it had all the superficial 1970s luxe touches - vinyl top, hood ornament, fancier trim. It did best as a well-appointed wagon. - Plush and new, buyers were keen - but the cars were soon beset by a host of early quality problems - rust, failing suspension bushings, electrical issues - they were famously recalled many times. They were also much too close to one another, sometimes even arriving at the dealer with incorrect badges. The F-cars were a clean sheet design, but clearly done on a limited budget. - Many of these cars would prove hard-wearing and durable - certainly the mechanical pieces, slant sixes, 318 and 360 V8s, were very proven pieces (retained for cost) and many are still on the road. But by 1979 the cars’ image was tarnished, mainly thanks to examples produced in the first year or so. Later bodies were galvanized and fit and finish improved, but resale values sank quickly (hurt, too, by Chrysler’s financial woes). The “Compact” Aspen/Volare were replaced by the much smaller Aries/Reliant K-cars in late 1980. https://www.instagram.com/p/B2es9CoAB_J/?igshid=50nmgupuw42h

A handful of out of context quotes that I think y'all will appreciate. I'm avoiding most of the spoiler-ish stuff as far as the plot goes, but there may be a few spoilers. You've been warned
"I didn't know how to play a man and be anything but distant and angry. The Tailor had taught me many things, but how a man could show kindness was not one of them."
"The day felt slow around me, as if the sunlight were honey thick and I could not push through it."
"And I knew, certain as sunlight, that I'd shoot every dragon out of the sky for him if I could."
""What's happening here?" Lord Verras stood in the doorway, coatless, his sleeves still rolled up. He was furious, but he held the anger outside of himself, as if it was a wildcat on a leash. I stood straighter just to see him."
""There isn't a person here who isn't scared. It shows you have sense, that you can see what's coming. But if your heart is as strong as I think it is, you'll remember those who care about you. And you won't let the fear run you.""
"Before I could bat the thought away, it had grown like an oak inside me, roots into rock, branches into the clouds. I imagined Lord Verras's arms around me and knew his heart beat would be slow and steady when I rested my head against his chest."
(I stayed as light on the spoilers as I could but I HAD to add that last line it's very important to me)
Also I remembered more reasons you should read this. For instance, the character development in some of the characters is suuuuper good. Plus there are rangers. And the freaking WORLD BUILDING. And, of course, Volar. I love Volar so much
All The Reasons My Tumblr Peeps (That Means You) Should Read "Valiant" By Sarah Mcguire
Okay an ask sent me over the edge, I'm doing this. Let's go! I'll keep this as spoiler free as possible
It's a retelling of a fairy tale ("The Valiant Little Tailor") that isn't retold as often as others. I personally have only read one other retelling
A D O P T I O N
You know how sometimes you fall in love with a fictional character? And it's not based off of art or fan casting, but the way the author writes him and you just know he has a very nice face but you're really just in love with his personality? Yeah that
In a tooooooooooooooootally unrelated note hahahahahahaha Galen Verras. Galen Verras everyone. He is my beloved
The main ship. THE FREAKING MAIN SHIP OKAY. It's kinda enemies to lovers and also mutual pining and the way they care about each other is SO SO BEAUTIFUL
The writing style. sldkfslkjfdlskdfjs the WRITING style is so POETIC and BEAUTIFUL and I would DIE FOR IT (it actually reminds me a little bit of @swinging-stars-from-satellites's writing style!)
The world building is incredible because they're clearly in a fantasy world but they're like "um magic? Giants? Lol that doesn't exist-- OH HOLY CRAP THAT'S A FREAKING GIANT"
The snarky banter. Y'all know I love me some banter
*punches a hole in the wall* DID I MENTION THE WRITING STYLE AND THE MAIN SHIP YET???
Okay that's all for tonight but I swear tomorrow I will reblog this with more and also a list of my favorite quotes with no context. I swear, I will get one of you guys to read this kriffing book if it's the LAST THING I DO
