If this guy was Black, the noise from social media would be deafening, but Daniel Shaver is white, so we’re not hearing about him as much. Why is that?

Because White America isn’t ready to say law enforcement and our gun culture is a problem. It’s easy to repost stories of Black victims of police violence because they can say “look at these racist cops” and feel as though their outraged is justified and specifically placed on a few bad apples who are just always suspicious of Black people. It’s much harder to say that law enforcement as a whole is a problem because that particular institution of whiteness makes them feel safe. What happens to that safety when you recognize that white people can be killed too because a cop “fears for his life”?

And the reason the cops are always afraid for their lives in this country is because they assume everyone is armed. Everything you do in front of a police officer in this country can be misinterpreted to mean you’re reaching for a gun. Officers in other countries aren’t always killing innocent citizens not just because they have better training but because they don’t reasonably suspect every person they encounter is armed with a gun.

But sure, let’s just pretend that racist cops are the only problem.

i opened the windows today. the scent of green grass outside that came rushing in and the wind with lingering humidity brought me back to my younger days. looking back, from younger days until now, i think there wasn’t a single moment where i wasn’t happy. the time spent playing with my friends was really happy and blissful, there was nothing i couldn’t do even with just 5,000 won a day. the start of my 20s where i met my exo members, training from morning til midnight, chasing my dreams. after debuting, meeting exo-ls who made my 20s even more meaningful. this instant that i can confidently say “i’m happy in this very moment” is really nice. although i always say this, i suddenly thought, if i didn’t have exo-l, i would be really unhappy. the path we walked became even more precious with time because of my precious exo-ls that walked together with us, be it tough roads or flower paths. thank you! ❤ -although he doesn’t like cringey things, baekhyunie who wishes to try it out today-
