However, it’s important to have realistic expectations for other folk and it’s crucial to understand that it is EMOTIONAL LABOR. We started Pack Light Vlog a year ago today! We didn’t really know what we were doing, just three women with a lot of feelings. Fast forward a year later and some things haven’t changed. We’re learning. We’ve accepted that healing is not linear. We’ve realized that admitting and accepting our mental illnesses do not make them magically go away. We have to actively work and strive for our peace of mind. Some days we don’t make the mark. Some weeks we don’t make the mark. Some months we don’t make the mark. But we keep on striving. GRATEFUL FOR GROWTH. We have made it to December y’all!!! We’re heading towards the heart of Sag season, the season for expansion and growth 🎆 I am taking a moment to reflect on these past 11 months. Y’all don’t wanna know the shell of a person I was. My essence was dying in a codependent, manipulative relationship. I was trying to navigate my identity as a queer black artist who pursued a degree in Int’l Affairs and couldn’t find work in my field, and mostly didn’t want to. I was living somewhere that constantly triggered anxiety and depression. I was mentally and spiritually STUCK. I started with a new therapist on my 26th birthday (Jan 4th ♑️♑️♑️) and began to address all of the trauma, pain, and negativity that had allowed me to succumb to that place. I moved back to NY February 22nd, and ain’t nothing about this been easy, but it’s been worth it. Reframing our past can be crucial in developing and maintaining new beginnings and truly learning difficult lessons. I know that I am OKAY about a situation when I don’t need to point fingers at everyone else and not take accountability for the role I played. Even if I was mistreated, what part of me allowed that to continue, what part numbed my intuition to the point where I continued in a harmful direction. Why is it so much easier to talk about someone else than focus on yourself? I read an article on fat shaming a few months back and it was so enlightening. It suggested that when one has negative feelings about someone else’s weight to look back at oneself and figure out where they stem from. Is it because you struggle with your own weight and lack confidence? I have been widely applying this theory all over the place like coconut oil y’all! Whenever I’m getting ready to down someone else, even just sitting with my own thoughts, I think why I feel so strongly about this situation. Is it because it resonates so fervently with my own self image, perception, ideology? If so, I try to pinpoint the feeling, sit with it, and begin the first steps of healing by telling myself this is okay. We will not continue to be traumatized by the emotions we bring to the surface. In dealing with these tough emotions of jealousy, envy, disappointment to name a few, we can start to acknowledge them and bid them adieu! #Peace!
