Η K-Gold Temporary Gallery παρουσιάζ��ι την έκθεση “Φόρα πάντα τα καλά σου” με τη συμμετοχή επτά Ελλήνων και διεθνών καλλιτεχνών. Μετά από έξι χρόνια νομαδικής δράσης, η παρούσα διοργάνωση σηματοδοτεί νέες κατευθύνσεις στον καλλιτεχνικό και ερευνητικό προγραμματισμό της πλατφόρμας στη μόνιμη στέγη της, στην Αγία Παρασκευή Λέσβου.
Η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει φωτογραφίες, βίντεο και εγκαταστάσεις που διερευνούν τα όρια ανάμεσα στην τέχνη και τον κόσμο της μόδας. Η ένδυση ως ένα ισχυρό εργαλείο έκφρασης, δύναται να μεταμορφώσει και να αποτελέσει σύμβολο επιθυμίας και ενδυνάμωσης. Στην έκθεση, ο στολισμός του ανθρώπινου σώματος ερευνάται ως καθημερινότητα και ως τελετουργία. Ως μια ανάγκη προσωπική και συλλογική, με έντονο το στοιχείο του εφήμερου, που καταδεικνύει διαχρονικά την ανάγκη όλων να καταναλώσουν μέσω των υλικών και των συναισθημάτων τους.
Ζητήματα ταυτότητας και υπερηφάνειας βρίσκονται στο επίκεντρο της φωτογραφικής έρευνας: η Alice Mann εξετάζει τη σχέση ανάμεσα στο παραδοσιακό ένδυμα και τη λατρεία στην αφρικανική διασπορά, ενώ οι εκκεντρικές μάσκες του Γεωργιανού Shalva Nikvashvili δημοσιεύονται στα κοινωνικά δίκτυα και εναντιώνονται στις κοινωνικές προσδοκίες. O γνωστός για την underground αισθητική του Jacopo Benassi φωτογραφίζεται με ρούχα υψηλής ραπτικής των Vivienne Westwood και Claude Montana, διερευνώντας τα όρια της κλασικής και σύγχρονης σωματικότητας. Οι ταξιδιωτικές εικόνες της Johanne Stoffersen εστιάζουν στην ικανοποίηση των αναγκών και την ευχαρίστηση που φέρνουν.
H έκθεση περιλαμβάνει επίσης το φιλμ “BATON” του Ισπανού σκηνοθέτη Albert Moya, μια συνεργασία με τον συγγραφέα Ευθύμη Φιλίππου και τον εμβληματικό σχεδιαστή Dries Van Noten, γύρω από θέματα εξουσίας και εμμονής στη σημερινή κοινωνία. Τέλος, μια σειρά γλυπτών και χρηστικών αντικειμένων του καλλιτεχνικού διδύμου Hypercomf (Ιωάννης Κολιόπουλος και Πάολα Παλαβίδη) εξερευνούν με χιούμορ τι ορίζεται ως χρήσιμο και τι ως άχρηστο, ενώ παράλληλα ακροβατούν μεταξύ της άνεσης και της δυσφορίας.
Η έκθεση “Φόρα πάντα τα καλά σου” συνοδεύεται από παράλληλες εκδηλώσεις: προβολές, ξεναγήσεις και εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα. Όλες οι δράσεις παρουσιάζονται δωρεάν και είναι ανοιχτές για όλους.

K-Gold Temporary Gallery presents the exhibition "Always wear your best," with the participation of seven Greek and international artists. After six years of nomadic activity, this event marks new directions in the artistic and research programming of the Gallery in a permanent space in Agia Paraskevi, Lesvos.
The exhibition includes photography, video and installation that explores the boundaries between the worlds of art and fashion. Clothing, as a powerful tool of expression, can transform to become a symbol of desire and empowerment. In this show, the adornment of the human body is examined as a daily routine, a ritual, and a personal and collective need which, over time, demonstrates the urge to consume through materials and emotions.
Issues of identity and pride are situated at the heart of this photographic research. Alice Mann examines the relationship between traditional dress and worship in the African diaspora, while Shalva Nikvashvili's eccentric masks are posted on social media, subverting social expectations. Jacopo Benassi, known for his underground aesthetics, is photographed in high fashion clothes by Vivienne Westwood and Claude Montana in an exploration of the extremes of classical and contemporary physicality. Johanne Stoffersen's travel imagery focuses on desire and pleasure.
The exhibition also includes the film "BATON" by Spanish director Albert Moya, a collaboration with writer Efthymis Filippou and the iconic designer Dries van Noten, which investigates power and obsession in today's society. Finally, a series of sculptures and functional objects by the duo Hypercomf (Ioannis Koliopoulos and Paola Palavidi) humorously explore the notions of useful and useless, comfort and discomfort.
The exhibition "Always wear your best" is accompanied by a series of parallel events: screenings, guided tours and an educational program. The events are free and open to all.

Coleccionista y amante del vintage exclusivo, convierte su pasión en su profesión. Dentro de la industria de la moda el perfil de archivista no solo se encuentra en grandes museos o en las mejores casas de moda. Jefferson Ihenacho, de origen Nigeriano y afincado en Londres, archiva, documenta, vende y protege sus tesoros en una pequeña tienda del 259 en Portobello Rd, Londres.
Su primer contacto con la moda se remonta cuando de niño ayudaba a su madre a vender collares y pulseras en su pueblo natal en Nigeria. Desde entonces no ha parado de cosechar triunfos personales. Su gusto por el coleccionar le valió para cosechar un archivo de prendas de dimensiones considerables, concretamente almacena más de 5.000 piezas. ‘Pasé mucho tiempo suministrando prendas insólitas, buscando y viajando para encontrar mujeres fabulosas con armarios fabulosos’.
Sus proveedores han sido siempre mujeres, excéntricas, acaudaladas y de gustos poco convencionales. Desde la mitad de los 80 hasta principios de los 2000, Jefferson aglutina de lo mejorcito lo mejor. Prendas únicas, irrepetibles y de mucho culto. Desde la codiciada colección punk de Worlds Ends de Vivienne Westwood y Malcolm McLaren hasta piezas museísticas de principios del siglo XX.
One of a kind es el nombre que recibe la tienda que alberga tales joyas. La cueva de Alí Babá del retro conceptual que abrió su puertecita en 1994 en el barrio londinense de los anticuarios por excelencia: Notting Hill. Su merecida reputación se la debe a la estrategia de posicionamiento más antigua que se conoce: el boca a boca. El auténtico who is who de esta industria, tan nicho como el producto que vende, en la que se premia en voz baja lo independiente, desconocido e inalcanzable.
Hubo una época en que ser diferente del resto molaba. Las it-girls de los 90 acudían en secreto a Jefferson para no repetir modelito en las alfombras rojas. La jet set, los más cool de Londres iban de incognito a comprarse un vestido de Yves Saint Laurent de 1978, o un corsé pedrería-fantasía de Jeanne Lanvin de 1968. Su clientela buscaba la exclusividad por encima de todo, porque Sienna Miller no quería ver como Winona Ryder le copiaba el conjunto. También Kate Moss y Naomi Campbell pasaban las tardes entre Balenciagas de los 60, o las primeras colecciones tridimensionales de Issey Miyake.
Porque el éxito de Ihenacho no solo reside en coleccionar celebs que funcionan como reclamo aspiracional. Si no por su curadísima selección de piezas, que cuanto más raras, mejor. Abarca todas las grandes firmas, tanto clásicas como conceptuales, pero el escoge la fantasía, la reliquia, el Haute Couture vintage.

One Of A Kind es la meca a la que peregrinan diseñadores, estilistas, creativos, comisarios y coleccionistas fanáticos que buscan inspiración. Es la parada obligatoria, bajo cita previa, de cualquier entendido que quiera soñar con los ojos abiertos.
Durante más de 15 años el equipo de Ihenacho ha asesorado, a modo de consultoría, a revistas como Vogue UK para sesiones de fotos, unas veces como estilistas, y otras tantas cediendo prendas. También han contribuido con instituciones culturales, por su gran labor de mantenimiento, preservación y documentación, y por el alto valor histórico de su archivo. En 2016 la galería de arte Barbican propuso la exhibición The Vulgar: Fashion Redefined, que examinaba la evolución de la vulgaridad planteando el buen o mal gusto en la moda. El legado que atesora Ihenacho fue de gran ayuda para que esta revisión histórica fuera posible.
Este perfil juega un papel muy importante en la industria de la moda. Por una parte, inspira y fascina a la clientela más chic. Por otra parte, documenta y vende un archivo nicho-conceptual, crucial para entender de dónde venimos. En algún sentido es el archivista de las estrellas, una catalogación que nos permite conocer mejor una profesión que se aleja, un rato largo, del rancio mundo vintage en el que vivimos hoy en día.

01/ In your own words, how did understand the problem you were asked to solve?
To begin the assignment, I started off reading through the brief thoroughly, highlighting any key information required in this task. This breakdown of information, insured I understood the depth of research needed before idea generation could begin. In order to show the context in my work, I researched into the background behind the punk subculture in the 1970s.
02/ Who were you designing or producing work for?
This brief was given to me by UNESCO for world poetry day to promote a poet for world poetry day. I therefore had to create visual representation of my chosen poets work in a specific style that suited the context of the poet and the subject matter of the poem itself. The poet I chose was John Cooper Clarke. He was known as the punk poet and is one of the highest rated influential contemporary poets of the 20th and 21st century. I chose him as his poetry is extremely visual and by listening to him express his thoughts as a performance poet you can really understand his emotion about what is happening.
03/ What relevant theory, reading or research underpinned your approach to solving the problem?
The modules theory began by considering the anatomy of type which was real help as now I feel more confident with the technical aspects of design. As a side project for the main brief we were asked to create a magazine article on modern contemporary architecture this not only allowed me to learn how to layout type but also allowed me to practice my photography skills and editing around Manchester which is an area I’ve had less experience in. In terms of reading really indulged into the punk concept by reading books documenting the trends in art, fashion, music and media which was important when it came to source the images and design styles for later in my work. I also watched documentary’s and films portraying what life was like in the late 70s and 80s. I used work created in a workshop focused around collage and layering put through riso-printer this worked very well as it is in keeping with the punk style that would have been contemporary in the 70s and the overall image of one color printed gave the design a very vibrant almost “toxic” texture to use as a background in future pieces. I documented this research within both a digital sketchbook (blog) and a traditional sketchbook which worked best when collecting imagery for both mediums.
04/ What were the best ideas you came up with and how do you know that?
I felt my best ideas came from those more hands-on methods of designing as it was in keeping with the “make do and mend” attitude of Punk era which was ultimately derived from poverty and the social economic problems at the times. I knew these as my best work, as I feel it almost mirrors other designers work from that time in terms of style. What I wanted to create was a design that reflected on these elements but refined them through technology that wasn’t available at the time.

05/ How did you develop your ideas before choosing a particular one to produce?
My idea generation was ultimately made up of the influence of other designers at that time period as a source of inspiration. This allowed me to adapt to their own styles before creating something that tries to in compass them all with my own design flair. Whilst also reflecting on how the Punk era has evolved to the modern world.
06/ Which relevant practitioners did you study in order to validate your personal reasoning?
I started off by studying designers notorious for being “out there” or daring with their designs which helped shape what we know as punk culture today. Defining figures like Jamie Reid, Barney Bubbles, Malcom McLaren and Vivienne Westwood. All famed for their influences on the culture at the time be that through music, art or fashion. Then I decided to delve more into today’s Punk modern artists that explore techniques that appear as if they come from culture but were developed far later. Artist’s like Neville Brody and David Carson. These artists although linked by style of work have their own unique tastes to the culture and provide an excellent source of inspiration when it comes to developing different layouts, typography techniques or layering methods.
07/ What editing process did you use to choose the preferred solution?
Throughout this project I focused mainly on refining my work photoshop as this was useful in editing and defining details that otherwise may have gone un-noticed. This also allowed me to create a buildup of different effects which were useful in merging the layers of my final piece.

08/ How did you go about producing your solution/s and why?
So, the making of my final piece is ultimately built up of layers that reflect different areas of the culture I wanted to touch upon. The first begins with a very expressive paint “splattered” layer which is meant to illustrate the popular “clash” style which was a fashion at their music events. It then moves on too three layers of collage which ultimately capture turning events that defined this era with popular or in popular figures that were often seen in imagery in punk culture. I then used another layer with cut up newspaper and magazine extracts to mimic the punk typeface. I finally placed a pane of Perspex usually used for etching with a stenciled paint over the top to reflect the graffiti like style of the time. This image is main focal point and I wanted to portray it behind glass over the top of the background to relate to the poems tone of feeling trapped with in the society at the time. Originally, I rendered the design to an a2 size however I then decided to relate the poster to an LP album cover size mimicking the heritage behind the poem.

10/ What was successful and why?
My research behind the project was successful in detailing the back story and motive behind the poetry project this was successful down to the amount of different approaches I explored. I found the problem solving in the magazine spread for “akitekt” was very successful as its an area I’ve never really explored, and I think I managed and developed my ideas confidently whilst learning new skills in typography and photography.
11/ What was unsuccessful and why?
Overall, I feel the project could have explored much further detail which would have added to the final piece. I would have liked to have created this project in other medias like developing it in video or Virtual Reality as I feel there was more that could have been added here.
12/ How will you modify or change your approach in future?
In future I feel I could add more to the planning of the project as the weeks unfolded its this kind of structure I feel could have directed the project further towards a greater end goal and allowed me to develop other ideas with the time allowing in the process.

Theory Lecture: Globalisation Task
Read: Barker,C.(2008)'A New Wolrld Disorder?' in Cultural Studies: Theroy and Practice Sage, pp. 141-147.
There has been much discussion of whether globalisation in fashion industry makes world where everything looks the same or more creative expression. As fashion becomes more globally, designers may find difficult to maintain their characteristic and avoid become homogenisation (Zhang, 2015). However, Blakley (2010) shows that global fashion design changes by the hybrids cultures, and designers from different backgrounds to share and create new fashion trends. While, the world becoming smaller, the pace of change in fashion is increasing, it has become more heterogeneous in postmodernism fashion (Berger, 1998, p. 194). This essay will demonstrate that sharing of ideas and cultures creating a greater range of expression; because of globalization, different cultures have become hybrid and more design opportunities have been produced, which also influenced by postmodernism. In order to demonstrate this, first, it will be shown that globalisation cause the fashion product becoming homogenisation. Then will present that globalisation allow the designer to exchange the experiences and ideas more fluidly in the multicultural environment. Finally, it will describe that the globalisation of fashion encourage within the local context as the impact of postmodernism.
One reason of the world where everything looks the same, may because of the designer in fast fashion brands to create homogenisation low-cost collections that was inspired by high-fashion brands, then sale in stores around the world, it made people living in different countries but wearing same clothing. It is because fast fashion brand refers to clothing lines that produce, package, and distribute the most up to date fashion trends, as quickly as fast food (Lee and Elena, 2011, pp. 76-90). For example, the biggest fast fashion company Zara, its collection in 2014 was inspired by Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Celine and Kenzo’s 2014 spring and summer collections, and its collection came early then all high-fashion brands (Rickey. 2014). Although globalisation has had contributed to the homogenisation in fashion industry from international fast fashion brands, like H&M (Steele, Melissa and Susanne, 2015). Lea-Greenwood (2013. p. 143) reports that H&M considered a global fast fashion brand as it trades around 2200 stores in over 40 countries, seen people live in different countries, also can buy a same clothing in different H&M stores. According to Blum and Ibbetson (2015. pp. 498-500), fast fashion is showing an agility of anything new in the fashion trend. Indeed, the increasing size of homogenisation of fast fashion industry makes the base of global fashion market similar (Bruce and Lucy. 2006. pp. 329-344). Therefore, it is clear that the problem of the homogenisation formulate by fast fashion makes the global market comes to the same.
However, global fashion industry do not only include the fast fashion, but also have other high-fashion brands and individual designer companies, their branding strategy should not be inspired by each other, but create from different their cultures and ideas; these group of brands are giving customers more options. It is difficult to show the same fashion trend in fashion week by different leading brands, each brand have different branding strategies that makes the great range of option in this market. For example, Vivienne Westwood has a strong brand identity that has the 1970s punk era, with historical twists throughout designs (Posner, 2011). Menkes (2013) point out that designer in high-fashion brand should have to embrace different cultures, which makes more choice of the fashion trend for next six months. Giorgio Armani’s high fashion style in his Armani Prive collection in 2013 summer, designer was inspired by different cultures and fabrics, such as mélange of fez hats, also Middle Eastern dresses over pants and batons wound with fabrics in Egyptian, Indian and Turkish (Menkes, 2013). It is true the leading brand produce more options within the multicultural condition, which as result of globalisation.
Furthermore, there is possible connection between postmodernism and fashion industry that create the heterogeneity and multiformity of global fashion market. According to Irvine (2013) postmodernism interpreters of cultural hybrids that emerge from mix the categories of “high” and “low” cultures, and develop in regions the local identities seek definition against. At the end of the twentieth century, Galliano’s fashion collections often created from different cultures, such as the human tableaux set in Turkish harems, Cairo markets and Hindu temples, or dance spectacles with snake charmers and Indian pipes (Evans, 2003, p. 29). Designers use all ideas or cultures are not original, as Twain (1903) points out, “substantially all ideas are second hand, consciously or unconsciously drawn from a million outside sources.” but they recreate it to their own styles, that could help the fashion industry comes more diverse. Miuccia Prada, who is a well know Italian fashion designer, one times when she went to a vintage store in Paris, she bought Balenciaga jacket, then replicate it for her own style (Blakley, 2010). Additionally, popular culture cross the subculture invented the postmodernist fashion become more creativity (Davis, 2007. p. 18). For instance, one breathtaking couture spring and summer 2014 show from Maison Martin Margiela, which was not only a showcase of craftsmanship and inventiveness but it was influence from something of a love letter to vintage (Blanks, 2014). This clearly demonstrates that postmodernism inspired the global fashion industry according to their local context becomes more diversity and multiformity; it is also create great range of fashion market.
In conclusion, this essay has attempted to demonstrate that sharing of ideas and cultures creating a greater range of expression; because of globalisation, different cultures have become hybrid, more design opportunities have been produced, which also influenced by postmodernism. Indeed, global market became similar because the fast fashion industry has been homogenised. It is also true that leading brands has been created by multicultural condition, which created more options. Globalisation of fashion industry encourage local context as the impact of postmodernism, it become more diversity. Globalisation causes the fashion industry and it will become to more creativity by the hybrid cultures and part of postmodernism effects, which will not only influence the leading brands but also permeate to fast fashion brands.

Joana Preiss is an actress, model, artist, filmmaker and musician.
She has appeared in numerous films by Christophe Honore, Olivier Assayas, Nobuhiro Suwa and Pia Marais. plus she has collaborated with visual and sound works by American photographer Nan Goldin who was the first to photograph her as an unknown.
She has been compared to and considered as a modern day Patti Smith. In 2002 photographer Corinne Day booked Joana for the S/S '03 Vivienne Westwood campaign together with British male model of the moment Dominic Brider for Vivienne Westwood MAN and an unknown blonde model for the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania . Together they all appeared in these fresh Spring Summer campaigns. Corinne had photographed Joana and Dominic on numerous occasions already. Here's some of those images from the campaign that I worked on with my friend, stylist Karl Plewka.
