Hey guys, I think there's something wrong with my pet Trimming? It's a little lanky and keeps hissing at me and trying to bite me. Is this normal?

Canisgate
So guess who just saw a surprisingly promising analog horror series with only 766 views?
youtube
(insert joke about this just being furry nixonverse here)
HOW DOES THIS ONLY HAVE SEVEN HUNDRED VIEWS????? GODDAMN MORE PEOPLE NEED TO WATCH THIS!
Considering the downward slope in analog horror recently, (The only analog horror that'll be recommended to you on youtube is the stuff with analog horror in the title, which usually end up being bad. [except for vita carnis my beloved]), this has been a really nice refresher for me. It does kinda feel like MM/Nixonverse, but much-more down-to-earth, so to speak. Not only do they have a pretty strong set of characters, Cris actually managed to make me feel uneasy while watching Canisgate, which is something I do appreciate. And the lore. Everyone loves lore.
I think this might be the most underrated AH series in a while. This post is mostly shilling it tbh.
TL;DR: Watch canisgate lol

The Analog/Digital Horror Recommendation Post
A lovely follower of mine asked for recommendations on Analog Horror series to watch since I mentioned I'm a big fan of the genre. I figured it would be best to just make a big post about it all!
This post will be split up into three sections: 1) Direct links to Analog/Digital Horror series with series that I have actually engaged in being in red bold 2) Links to analog horror commentary Youtube channels that do a great job of breaking down and explaining series because they can get kinda confusing 3) Some particular series breakdown videos I highly recommend.

Headcanons for Mark, Jonah, and Adam and an S/O who has a bunch of vita carnis Mimics as "helpers."
What would the three of them think of someone who can somehow "tame" these things and just keeps them around as house pets? They just hang out in their home and on their little plot of land (that I'd imagine is isolated because people moved tf away when the rumors started spreading) and keep any threats away. Reader doesn't actively do anything to sate their diet though. Although they aren't opposed to the Mimics stomping out any would-be troublemakers or those who piss them off... They still get their food themselves but use reader's home as a place of refuge.
Maybe the way the three of them meet their S/O was finding out that Alternates were being warded off from there. Idk, I haven't had a chance to get fully invested in MC but the idea just sounds really interesting. Also, I have the mental image of a Mimic putting away the dishes and someone's immediate reaction is screaming "What the FUCK is that?!?!" And just getting this whole explanation of what it is and that this one and all the others are friendly despite it needing to be reminded that the human in front of them is not food.
I LOVE that mental image you described. Mimics just doing chores and human things, only to see an actual human look at them absolutely HORRIFIED
........
Mark
He was relieved to get away from the Alternate-populated Mandela County for a while.
But when you answer the door while preparing dinner, you called out for James (one of the male Mimics you named) to stay in the kitchen...
Without realizing how extremely suspicious that sounded until you saw the look on Mark's face. "Who's James?"
"Oh! He's uh...can you wait here while I-?"
"Is he your new roommate or something?" He jumps to conclusions immediately, thinking you're cheating on him as you never told him you lived with another person.
In anger he storms past you to confront this "James" you were apparently being so secretive about....
Before you could stop him, he sees the Mimic and freaks out, causing it to drop the plate it was holding and screams right back at him.
You're quick to disperse the situation before it becomes a bloodbath, but by then it's too late. Mark was thoroughly traumatized.
When you mentioned living with creatures who kept the local Alternate population out of your town..he didn't think they'd be be skinless humans.
He locked himself in your bathroom, trying to stave off a panic attack as he recites his prayers, convinced there was "evil" hanging over your house.
Eventually he lets you in and you help him calm down, reassuring him that wasn't the case at all before explaining the Mimics and their role in your household, answering whatever questions he had (which were a LOT).
"Even if they're not demons....why would God make something like that?"
"Maybe..it's the same reason he made the platypus."
"......that's not the same, s/o."
"I know, I'm just trying to help."
Jonah
He's made jokes about the Mimics before.
But he didn't think they were real living and breathing creatures you were coexisting with.
He swears he was smoking something when he saw one wearing your clothes and sweeping the floor with a broom like any ordinary person would.
At first he tries to be chill about it as to not freak you out..
Until he goes into your pantry for a snack and finds shelves with jars filled to the brim with Crawl sticks.
As well as a Mimic curled up on the highest shelf, asleep.
Next thing you know, Jonah's dry heaving over the nearest trash can.
"Babe for the love of GOD please tell me that I'm on some weird ass trip because I can't handle this rn"
"...well maybe if you didn't brush off my research, you wouldn't be as scared." You pat his back before glaring at the Mimic who was just seconds away from lunging at your boyfriend at his most vulnerable moment.
"Jonah, sweetie..rule number one is to never turn your back on a Mimic unless you're running away from it." You make him turn around to face it, and they stare at each other before it eventually calms down and leaves.
Even after you explained how you "tamed" the Mimics, he's too scared to leave your side or be alone in the same room with one.
Their permanent smiles and wide eyes just...give him the chills. Even if they're just staring with curiosity, he always insists it's a look of hunger.
They are aware he's dating you and will playfully threaten to eat him, but never actually go through with it bc you'd probably kick them out and leave them without food.
Adam
(gonna make this post-Catalyst)
He's having a tough time keeping the relationship alive and coping with being an Alternate--a secret he only recently shared with you.
Despite him being the first one you've ever encountered, you're not all that afraid. Just surprised.
You confess to having your own secret to share, taking him to your home where you could talk about it more.
He keeps asking how you could trust him with anything when he looked like a hideous monster. But you reassured him he'll understand soon enough.
After you arrive, he sees the Crawl trees behind your house, but thinks nothing of it until you bring him inside.
You whistle and a Baby Mimic comes skittering towards you on all fours, climbing onto you like a koala bear before you turn back to your boyfriend, smiling.
It takes him a second to connect the dots. "....wait, that's a....Vita Carnis...i-it's a real thing??"
"They've always have been."
"Wow, this is...one hell of a secret. D-Does..that Mimic know what I am?"
"The adults can usually tell, but this little bugger thinks you're tasty food." You scratch the baby Mimic's chin, hearing it coo sweetly as it nibbled on your jacket strings. "But you see why I'm not scared of you? Because I've made peace with these "hideous monsters", just like I've made peace with what you told me."
He tears up at your sweet and kind words, though he listens as you introduce him to the "helpers" of your household aka the adult Mimics who wore your clothing and were doing different tasks.
They all kinda stared at Adam as he awkwardly greeted them, but didn't do anything more.
It's strangely comforting that they perceive him as a human.
At the same time, he feels lucky to not look appetizing to them.

I love the Bug Man, but for some reason, he reminds me of the shapeshifter from Gravity Falls and the Lice Queen from Invader Zim. Like, he scares me, but I'm fascinated with him. These characters are in the same category

scps x reader with who has pet trimmings
(for context these are what trimmings look like. They're from the series Vita Carnis on youtube. Trimmings are friendly but shy and a bit fragile. This post is scps reacting to a reader who has a good few trimmings as pets. For this trimmings are anomolies the foundation contains and the reader is the head researcher of the project to care for them and is also obsessed with their little meat babies. Also this post will ignore the other monsters in Vita Carnis simply because this is about trimmings)
Tumblr media
scp 105:
When you first met her and mentioned the trimmings she didn't expect this.
"aw....its kinda cute"
she's ok with them at first... she kinda feels bad for them.
i mean it's not scary to her, she's seen far worse. But the little thing is so strange looking compared to the average pet.
She just didn't think you'd be so obsessed with them.
But she grows to love the creatures just as much as you do.
She takes pictures of them for you, there are many high quality pictures of them you have of them on your desk.
A good babysitter and would rather take care of them for you then work.
She listens in on all your little rants about your flesh babies.
Speaking of rants she will rant to your trimmings (since trimmings canonically like to be talked to).
She likes talking to them because then she doesn't have to worry about being judged.
The trimmings quickly like her enough that they are happy to play with her
scp 035
They do not see the appeal.
"Just look at it! It looks like an overgrown fetus!"
They hate how this tiny pathetic little thing has consumed your life
They want you to pay attention to them! (they're a huge brat about it)
They get jealous
But over time may learn to not dislike your trimmings so much
Still not a trustworthy babysitter though, the ooze he leaks will probably damage them.
But at least they has someone to rant to about some sob story about their life (there's a 40% chance it was made up) or just want to complain about the foundation
That's like the only thing they will do with your trimming (other then think about throwing it away)
They won't actually throw it out just yet because they saw what you did to the last employee who tried that.
your trimmings just kinda avoid them
______
I'ma make a part 2 later

Vita Carnis by Darian Quilloy
Why yes I am giving my favorite series Halloween week, but consider this an advertisement for why it deserves it.
Vita Carnis is a relatively new, (in terms of Analog Horror), show that has gained a large following and has even been theorized on by MatPat—before he retired.
I think I mentioned in my first post that season one of The Mandela Catalogue was my favorite when I first got into the genre. To be specific, upon my first viewing, I had trouble falling asleep and would compulsively check every potential hiding place in my room before going to bed.
Upon my first viewing of Vita Carnis, that went on for months, instead. In fact, over a year later, I still do the routine “Mimic check” despite not living alone.
Now, before I risk spoiling the series, let’s get the spoiler-free qualities out of the way:
• Hive mind threats, the neat part is that this so far only applies to one section of the threat.
• Twisted security, we have security footage, documentaries, infomercials, and personal footage plenty of variety in where the story beats are coming from.
• Competent characters, not everyone, but do expect to see people/groups who actually try to do something about their situation.
• Biology lessons, the first thing you learn about the threats is how they function on an anatomical level, adds to realism and demonstrates added care and effort.
• Mini-retelling, about once per video—at least in season one—the audience is presented with a fragment of what’s “really” happening, and even then there’s the possibility of it being inaccurate. Untrustworthy sources are a major theme of season one.
• Not safe at home, one of the threats—being as vague as possible—is pretty much the sole reason I had trouble falling asleep for so long because it is entirely based around attacking it’s victims in their home.
• Safety guides, the threats have existed for decades, and the people living in this world behave like they have. As I said with untrustworthy sources, we have conflicting reactions and handlings of it, but the major players clearly approach them with knowledge.
• On-screen payoff, there is technically a scene or two which couldn’t have been recorded, but they have such visceral content in them that you don’t entirely notice. This is also played up through the use of very good effects.
• Varied but same threats, similar to Gemini, they are very different in how they are a threat—if they are a threat at all—but come from the same thing.
Now, onto the more risky analysis:
It’s a little hard to pinpoint exactly what I love best about this series, from the consistency in quality to the scientific facts to the secret videos throughout the new season that’s coming out now.
So, I’m just going to try and begin with why I was so scared, more specifically. One threat in particular checks every box of aspects of a monster that I find scary: Uncanny valley (depending on age), silent but dangerous, solely focused on humans in a way that makes sense, etc..
The main thing that drew me into this now that I think about it, was how the foot chain was visibly affected in the world of Vita Carnis.
With every direct threat, the one I mentioned above especially, Darian has taken a lot of care to describe the science behind all of them and their dangerous mechanisms. All to demonstrate the key theme that humans, in that world, are no longer at the top of the food chain, and are in a prey position again. Something that instinctively strikes fear into humans as a species.
What makes it mire real and visceral is, as I mentioned above, the science and how the people in this world react to this. One can argue that humans are in that situation with other types of monsters like werewolves, vampires, demons, etc., but Vita Carnis has descriptive explanations for how these threats work, has safety guides for them, and despite that, still makes it clear that in that world, we still have to fear for out lives on a constant basis.
The new season that’s coming out is geared more towards learning the potential source of these threats, but the first season was all about understanding why the threats would be so unbeatable and terrifying in real life. Darian also does a great job with effects, mainly using practical effects in the first season. Granted, it doesn’t look great all the time, but it’s another example of just how much effort he puts into this series.
I mentioned that Midwest Angelica wasn’t my favorite because I was personally tired of seeing literal religious themes in stories, had a different guess as to what the threat was that killed momentum on my end, but Vita Carnis didn’t necessarily give me a chance to guess. At least not with the first few episodes, in fact, those first two episodes were a decent subversion in terms of introducing the main antagonists.
The current season is leaning more into the “cultish” and “researching” part of it, but it has kept its momentum nonetheless, at least for me.
It’s not for everybody. But on the Analog Horror subreddit praise it like crazy, and I’m holding back quite a bit because I could get into direct spoilers, but it’s just not everybody’s cup of tea, just like how Midwest Angelica wasn’t mine. You may find that the goofier/unrealistic moments effects wise ruin the immersion for you, or this second season will lose you, or maybe biology videos aren’t scary.
However, if you are like me and intrigued by these things, it is, just like Gemini and Midwest, on YouTube. Go check it out if youre interested (but be warned that despite the first seven videos being put into one documentary, there is content cut and added)!
As for next week…

YOOOOO!!!!! hello!! my name is cherry and i like x readers….
and I want to let you know that these are the fandoms i write for!!
Exe / Sonic + Mario Creepypasta Community ! (main interest!!!!)
Sonic the Hedgehog ! (main interest!!!!)
If any of the creators of these fandoms are problematic, do note that I do not support them and only enjoy the media and not the person/people that is problematic.
Boundaries, guidelines and notes before requesting.
I will not write ANY smut or nsfw content. I am a minor and that makes me uncomfortable.
Please be mindful to give tw before requesting about the content, some people may not be comfortable. I will not write reader / characters actively self harming.
Please no pregnancy, scat, piss, watersports, agere or yandere requests. I genuinely can’t write them. Yandere makes me uncomfortable to write. Nothings wrong with agere, it’s just not my cup of tea in writing. Also I don’t write toxic relationships between s/o and reader. Reader can be mentioned to be in one or was in one but never a toxic relationship with s/o
All teen/child!reader requests will obviously be platonic.
Do note that when I write my readers they will usually be the less dominant in the relationship, as their s/o will be the one doing the moves of romance!! :) Does not mean they are weak at all— just less the one making the moves in the relationship! :3
I only write female and enby readers!
If I do crossovers, this is a list of fandoms I will accept for crossover ( Like ex. Jonah!Reader, Alt!Reader or Wally!Reader, basically minor mentions of said fandoms while writing Character!Reader )
The Mandela Catalogue
Vita Carnis ( this one is more rather caretaker!reader with mimics or trimmings and things like that.)
FNAF / DSAF

Species Anomaly Report - Why this episode of Vita Carnis is so frightening.
-Spoilers, if you haven’t watched Vita Carnis and plan to, there’s gonna be spoilers up in this thing. I do highly recommend the series, it’s one of my favorite analog horrors, though definitely mind the trigger warnings. Speaking of triggers, this post is gonna mention the following: Child death, death in general, gore and the likes. If you think this needs more warnings, just ask, okay?-
I always see people talking about how much this video scares them, but never see anyone talking much about why.
Vita Carnis is already a pretty “efficient” series. It doesn’t rely much on jumpscares, which is great, seeing as they’re normally used just to get a reaction from the audience. The only actual jumpscare I’ve noticed people talking about is the cabinet scene in the mimic documentary episode. Even then, it’s done pretty well. The slow buildup and the fact that it’s not as passive as a lot of others does make it frightening enough for people to recognize it. However, Species Anomaly Report does this without any of that.
If you’ve seen the episode, you’re probably remembering the audio most of all. Now, people scream a lot. Particularly children. The sound of people just screaming isn’t something most people would find that disturbing on its own. That’s where the story really comes in. You already have the background of the family hiking in the woods, you have the information on how the harvester functions, but now, everything is blending together in a way that hits people right in the psyche. First off, the child. Humans have an instinct to protect children. This is super obvious in parents and such, but child death and harm is rightfully uncomfortable for just about everyone. Even in lots of horror media, child death is skirted around. Of course, it happens, but it’s usually relegated to backstory, or it’s something that is more often avoided. Even if a child is placed in danger, they’re usually safe by the end. Species Anomaly Report plainly does not do this. The boy dies, in terror and agony. This, placed on top of the fact that we know the explicit details of how the Harvester goes about killing him, combined with the audio, gets viewers right in the instincts. It doesn’t stop there. The Harvester acquired a second victim, the boy’s mother.
The mother’s death brings a specific hopelessness to the narrative. Her child is suffering a horrible death that she is forced helplessly to witness, and she suffers the same end. The audience, who either consciously or subconsciously shares the mother’s desire to protect the child, will also share the hopelessness that comes with knowing it’s impossible. What truly makes this episode harrowing is that fear, topped with the horrible sinking sensation of hopelessness. The viewer is trapped along with the mother, watching a child die all whilst knowing there is nothing that can be done.
The other carnis are definitely disturbing, (but not the trimmings. No. 1 trimmings fan.) but the harvester didn’t carry some of the same fear as the humanoid figures of the mimic, hosts, etc. What made this facet of the narrative so innately horrifying is how it targets the instinctual desire to protect those more vulnerable, yet instantly snatches it away, holding it out of reach as you succumb to the hopelessness and terror.

Hello. I think you did really well on your analogy horror fic. Analog horror is really hard to do well when you're working with video. Primarily writing it is adding a whole new layer to the complexity as you can't rely on visual shock or audio effects.
The visual effects that you did add look amazing. Enough static and shadow to look eerie but all the images were still clear and easy to understand. There was no squinting at the screen in confusion.
I also appreciate how you didn't use gore to get shock value. That is my biggest pet peeve with horror is that creators think gore = scary. You had far less restrictions than most analog horror creators due to not working on YouTube but you still managed to make a very scary piece without needing to rely on gore to get the effect.
I also appreciate how your writing runs smoothly. No one makes any stupid decisions and there's no confusing shifts in character. You gave enough introduction so we could understand what was going on without needing to beat us over the head with "here's what's going on" CMedic's pov is both horrifying and sympathetic. Virgil and Fred's banter was great and very cute. Cheavy is clearly grasping at straws to get CMedic back but not unjustly the machine is literally called "a life extender". That and the way he dies (?) is properly horrifying and sad.
The way you wrote Gregg and his death was also really well done. We don't know him for long but I still felt upset when he died. And the way he died was properly scary. Like I said earlier I appreciate how you didn't use gore to make the death horrifying. I do enjoy how you used taste instead as I think it's an underused sense in writing. Suddenly feeling like you have a mouthful of dirt can be just as horrifying as seeing a bloody ghost.
Sorry for the ramble. I just really like analogy horror and I think more people should try and write one. I hope you continue this project as it is very interesting!
Hey, thank you so much for the message!
I'm really glad you enjoyed the first chapter of Do Not Stand At My Grave! I've always had a soft spot for analog horror, ever since I first learned about it through Markiplier's playthrough of Maple County.
Analog horror is fascinating to me, and the best analog horror series' out there have made me squirm in my seat like nothing else. Vitae Carnis, Monument Mythos, Gemini Home Entertainment, Local58, and Midwest Angelica are fantastic, and those are just the ones I can name off the top of my head. These particular series' have ALWAYS freaked me out, and part of why I think they're so effective is how "quiet" they can be.
You see, I'm not fond of gorefests in horror. I mean, I enjoy The Evil Within and Resident Evil as much as the next girl, but gore is just...not scary on its own. Shocking, yes, and certainly upsetting if you have a weak stomach, but...what do you have left when the shock is over? Shock value is the lowest form of art. It's monumentally lazy because it's the visceral equivalent of a jumpscare. You can only make someone gag for as long as they have a gag reflex. And it is VERY easy to desensitize someone to gore and shocking content.
And I know analog horror uses gore quite a bit, but the most horrifying part of any analog horror series has ALWAYS been the quieter moments. The slow moments. The parts where you're left staring at your screen, wondering what led to this. Horror that's unsettling and eerie and haunting.
I wanted to get across that feeling in my fic. The horror is very quiet. Almost understated. Narration and descriptions are at once vague and deeply troubling. Why is the "moon" in quotation marks? Why does the night sky smell like ash? Why is Teufort in italics every time it's mentioned? Are the rooms actually melting, or are the events so difficult to describe that the characters can't articulate what's actually happening? Why is Cheavy obsessively going over the locks on his door? Why is it so cold? What the hell is going on with Cmedic? Are Cheavy and Gregg actually dead? What did Virgil mean when he said that Cheavy turned blue before disappearing?
No one is running around, there's no mass panic, there's no blood, there's no screaming. It's just a dark and cold base. The generator isn't working, even though Gregg has been working on it for awhile now. There's this ever present sense of wrongness to everything. Hell the fact that this fic is apparently in an alternate timeline where TFC won over Team Fortress in comic 6 also lends itself to this sense of wrongness. That THIS isn't supposed to be happening. That something is very wrong here.
Even the narration does this. There are parts of the narration that feel like the story is starting to fall apart. Like even me, the omniscient narrator, isn't safe from...whatever is happening here.
And Cmedic's POV takes this even further. I mean, when was the last time you saw an analog horror entity's perspective on anything? I know Midwest Angelica and Monument Mythos do this to an extent, but not like this. Moreover, I know analog horror is in LOVE with its hostile entities, but...I've always been fond of the idea of of a non-hostile entity. The idea that this thing doesn't want to hurt you at all, it has NO ill intentions, it only wants the best for the people it's around, but something is seriously wrong. Cmedic's very presence is dangerous, but we don't know exactly why yet. It's not clear if it's lethal, it's not clear if it's immediately deadly, it's not clear what exactly he's even doing. He's clearly sentient, but something is...off.
THAT is what I love about analog horror. Not the screams, not the gore, not the hyper-violence and destruction. The quiet moments that make you uncomfortable. That make you wonder what the fuck is WRONG here. No blood, no gore, no typical horror tropes of characters just blindly running into danger. Just a slow, quiet story in a dark base, where something is very wrong. As above, so below.
Another major inspiration were the works of Yames, including Water Womb World and Discover My Body. If you want to be DEEPLY unsettled and freaked out by quiet horror, then you will definitely wanna check out his work.
I'm really glad I successfully managed to get across the vibes of analog horror in writing. I enjoyed writing the first chapter, and I can't wait to keep writing!
It's honestly kinda weird writing this alongside Take Back The Fortress. If I had to describe it: TBTF is the Resident Evil to DNSAMG's Silent Hill, and it is wild writing both types of horror side by side.
