It was awesome to meet Kenneth Hogans Sr. recently in Oakland, California! His old school community barbershop, Cuts and Bends, has been in this area since 1981 and is filled with his collections of books, pictures, and paintings. We couldn’t believe it when he told us he is 82 years old. He continues to work 5 days a week. Kenneth was born in Mississippi and he began cutting hair when he was a teenager. In 1956, he came out to California and he joined the AirForce. He said his mom thought he was going to California so he could attend UC Berkeley. However, Kenneth said he really wanted to become a barber ❤️ Very special thanks to @robhammerphoto for this barbershop recommendation 💕

It was a nice park with statues. Everything is made out of trash. It was the homeless people of Oakland that created this place. It was like their sanctuary and it’s called the Bulb. One of them even made a building out of carts and cement mix. Each statue had its own story. The place is a unique place to stumble upon. To say I was *delighted* is an understatement. I'm gonna need a book vending machine in every corner 👀

The food was really good too. I visited with my family and we had a tasty lunch + they were super helpful. Great place to get some work done. Check it out if you're in the DY Oakland. Oaklandia is open M to F 7AM to 4PM.
