#visiting castles

Today I visited Koldinghus in Kolding. The medieval castle was almost burned down in 1808 but parts of it are rebuilt in medieval style and others with modern architecture. There were 3 beautiful old wall tapestries and a special workshop where they make historical clothes for the castle. There is a place where you can try them on as well.

Ok so a few years back I read this post by @contradictionaddiction and I love the idea that Megan was as much a fantasy fan as Howl in their teens, she canonically has a Rivendell sign in her yard!!!

And i find the implication that she resents him about his life choices so interesting because she probably had to become the responsible and respectable sibling in the family while Howl did what he wanted.

Since Howl loves to bring gifts to his nephew and niece, id like to imagine him gifting Neil a Tolkien book set with lovely illustrations on his birthday but who's to say it's not also for Megan :) Howl wouldn't outright gift Megan their childhood favorite books since they're not getting along too well anymore but he could do it via Neil...Maybe she picks them up again at some point.

Some Pyrgus news! My mum was supposed to visit him last month but she wasn’t able to, and with all that stuff happening I forgot I wanted to call the llama farm where he lives to ask about him, but I finally called them today. Turns out Gus was sold recently, which made me a bit sad at first (though I know they’re a llama farm and that’s what they do with the males they don’t keep as studs), but then I learnt that he was sold to the owner of a castle in western France, along with a female llama, to live in the park. The new owner promised to send pictures soon and I asked for them to be passed on to me so I hope we’ll be able to see Gus living his new princely life.

I take comfort in the fact that sometimes life is fair and if you’re a beautiful llama you get to live your life parading around castle grounds admired by tourists :)

Kasteel de Haar, Haarzuilens

Sometimes you just want to visit a fairytale castle. This kasteel de Haar in Haarzuilens near Utrecht. It is a rebuilt ruin of a castle in neo Gothic style. I had never visited the interior before and it was gorgeous. There are real antiques in there combined with modern luxuries like warm water and central heating.

A look inside Schloss Katzenberg: a twelfth century castle along an ancient Roman road, close to the Austrian German border. These pictures are of both a display and also of the bookbinding museum. I’m absolutely enamored with the old kitchen and stove. I wish I had one of those!
