I kinda always had it in mind to move out to where my internet friends are but having so many all over means I'm not really sure where that'd be
#should get back in touch with some people idk#like I'm not even an economic migrant I'd take worse conditions just to be with someone#there should be a visa program but only for trans girls to meet up and live together

One thing no one warns you about when you start working in a higher education project is that you'll have to watch not only the staff but also the professors mocking the students all the time for no reason like they're a burden just for existing
#and this is a post-grad program. i wonder how people talk about teenagers in school jesus christ#also the complete lack of empathy for foreign students with reasonable concerns about visa bureaucracy#i swear to fucking god today a coworker called a student whose native language is Spanish#who passed an extremely difficult test in a niche field written in Portuguese to be accepted in the program#a *lazy idiot* because he send us an email in English#which she doesn't speak

US Will Be Monitoring Israel Very Closely
As part of its desperate attempts to get into the US Visa Waiver program, Israel will be allowing "Palestinian-Americans" to have unfettered entry to Israel via Ben Gurion Airport as a compliance test.
The US will be "monitoring very closely" to make sure Israeli security does not unduly question those "Palestinian Americans" and they are treated like every other visiting American.
I only mention this because after 19-year-old yeshiva student Yehuda Guetta was murdered by a "Palestinian American" in 2021, and then PM Bennett made sure the "Palestinian American" terrorist's home was demolished (he was also sentenced to life in jail), the US strongly condemned Israel for destroying the terrorist's home in Turmus-Aya.

#yammers#yeah sorry time for a tag post bc I gotta put this somewhere but. quietly#I get so few days where I don't wonder what the fuck I'm even doing here#and that wondering gets ramped up by the fact that there just. isn't anywhere else for me to be#bc I'm always gonna be far away from someone now#my home country is a dangerous shithole where I'm uninsured and jobless#(where I could raise my hire-ability by.... shelling out money I don't have to move away from family and friends#to get closer to where the action is. except it Barely is bc animation is in a freefall)#in my new country I can barely communicate with anyone and my job prospects are so up in the air#that I have to waste my day doing the most demoralizing ugly work I've ever done for a job I don't want#because my visa requires that the country deem my presence PROFITABLE!!!#and I'm burned out to hell and back from running paperwork last year to move here#and it never stopped. it never ever ever stops. I am never ever EVER doing enough#practice french. more. more. MORE. learn this program. learn that program. test for this. apply to that. never hear back. get rejected.#go do paperwork again. figure out your taxes#WRONG. do it again. go get groceries. do the dishes again. put the laundry away again.#there's no space for your stuff. you barely have any stuff because you had to get rid of it all.#do something you don't want to do. again. again. smile! have fun! be charming! connect! network! stay longer!#I just want to curl up in a ball and disappear for a month or two#let me summer hibernate#it's so fucking hot here anyway I'd prefer a cave#negative /)/-)&$

fall registration opens in another couple weeks and i’m hoping desperately that the gis lab opens up an online section like they did for this semester…. because the in person lab is right when i want to take a rarely-offered anthro course….
#wasn’t going to take this anthro course but it’s rarely offered and i started considering another master’s and i think i should. take this#course. it wouldn’t matter for applications most likely but it would defintely make me feel more. adequate.#in my knowledge base. also i should talk to that professor abt this masters i want to know what she thinks abt it because it’s. really#pushing students towards her field specifically. and i’d like to see what she thinks.#i’m between two programs at that school and a couple programs elsewhere#but ideally that school. i hope in like a couple years when i apply it goes well…. i need to save up funds before then lol#for visa reasons……

Its kind of insane like genuinely insane how many people on here have no idea what life is like for average people in the third world / global majority and the Neo-colonialism that creates those conditions to support conditions in the North and how insanely cruel they can be as the absolute baseline and the type of killing and death that maintains the boundaries between the north and the south.
Like tell me you've never met an immigrant or refugee without telling me. Do you genuinely not know what happens to people who get deported, or work in the farms or meatpacking factories that feed the North?? The child deaths in the border crossings? The mines all over the globe? The people that die from lack of baseline vaccinations and sanitation and healthcare trademarked by western companies? The literal MILLIONS of third worlders killed in the wars across the globe defending US economic hegemony? The agent orange, the land mines, the carpet bombing, the drones? What the fuck is wrong with you?
#mine#sorry bitchy posting#idk why I even read discourse on here anymore its mostly just beefing or more motivated by a specific shitty user or whatever.#idk but like we can accept that you can be poor and disabled and still have other privileges why is it not ok to point out the#overwhelmingly oppressive conditions the North holds the South in and the passport and supply chain and linguistic and exchange rate and#labor protections other such things that all citizens of the global North have closer access to than those of the South. What if it didn't#matter who was in charge of your country and no matter what liberatory things they wanted to do the IMF could still have you gutted and#economically force your country to cut your social programs and use national debt to put your entire population to work serving the#producing goods and raw materials that everyone in the global north consumes whether they have a choice or not.#It not like similar conditions don't exist in the north but its crazy to see people posting that imperial core privilege doesn't exist.#It fucking does.#and it grinds up the bodies of the south in million upon millions and it's fucking insane to act like its an imposition on you to even try#to care or understand. Borders are material and they fucking kill people. They fucking kill people#I literally know someone who almost died because of his non-residential status. His life was only saved because he happened to get diagnose#in a country that had a medical system that could treat him. He had to stay sick and dying and away from his family for 4 fucking years#because if he went home he would never be allowed back again. He was only able to stay because he had support from a vouching citizen frien#who could speak the language well. Then after he was cleared he was sent home and because he has a 'preexisting risk factor' he will never#be granted a work visa in the country again. If /when the illness relapses he is going to die without treatment.#It makes me fucking livid that people can discard the violence of borders so quickly. Borders fucking kill. And they kill in the millions.#The north runs of southern blood. That doesnt mean that northerners arent killed too. But its fucking crazy to act like no such axis exists#any american president would kill the same number of southerners without the destruction of the north-south extractive supply chain.#Im sorry about the spam lol. But this just pisses me off. HOW ARE YOU SO BLIND. How can you say these things and think youre a good person.#How can you say these things. How.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a similar experience in academia :[ It always sucks to be confronted with just how brutal it IS, but it's also nice to meet people with similar experiences because another thing academia is great at is making you feel uniquely alone in your struggles/failure. I still love research, but the way it's done in academia especially can be so hostile lmao
Oh, I definitely didn't suffer like you, I quit before I even started! I was preparing to apply for a PhD in undergrad in 2020 and then realized that my ADHD-ass would never make it out in one piece. My friends who are in their PhD programs are exceptional, golden children and they also have a hard time; I can't imagine what that would have been like for me. I'm suffering in my Master's right now, and it's not even a research-oriented Master's. I really hope I don't have to go back for a PhD for any reason.
I hope you know that you are absolutely not alone in your struggle! The brutality of academia and its politics is nothing to scoff at. My messages are open if you want to talk about it (or just talk about Riza and FMA in any capacity lol)!
#academia#is bullshit#fr someone get me out of this program now#would probably not be here if not for visa reasons#maybe also money? i like money too much it's really sad
