Was rewatching Virtues of Spinjitzu today and I was instantly reminded of how much I love Kai and Jay's dynamic

They kickstarted the entire plot of the short because Wu told them to meditate on the Virtues of Spinjitzu and these mfs somehow ended up in a brick breaking competition for the last cookie lmao (AuDHD and ADHD solidarity istg)

Also did anybody else find it HILARIOUSLY ironic that the most infamous liars/actors on the team ended up in the honesty challenge together?

(Especially since they were just trying to lie to Master Wu's face about the brick breaking competition? Like WOW lol)

I also loved how Kai can actually juggle like he told the Ice Emperor and was pushing for that, but still had to throw in ventriloquism for Jay just for the heck of it (how is one man always so smart and so dumb at the same time)

But I just love that short in general too

Everybody's character feels so spot-on and fun to watch

And the virtue chosen for each of them is really fitting too which probably contributes to said characterization, and the interactions are just wonderful and the fight scenes are always a delight to watch, as well as the animation in general-

Okay, I’ve posted this clip from Virtues of Spinjitzu before BUT something just occurred to me so naturally I have to talk about it.

This is the clip I’m talking about. Last time I talked about this clip, I mentioned that since Zane was the Ice Emperor, it doesn’t make sense for Kai and Jay to act like he was pretending to be the Ice Emperor (granted, Jay does also say "You're the Ice Emperor!" but my point stands).

It occurred to me maybe 15 minutes ago that Kai saying "Why are you pretending to be the Ice Emperor again?" is indicative of denial that Zane was ever the Ice Emperor in the first place, and, by extension, trauma from that specific event happening (and given he was literally incapable of using his powers or the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu at the time of Zane's banishment, it doesn't surprise me that he'd have trauma associated with Zane's banishment and subsequent rule over the Never-Realm).

Idk. Analyzing Ninjago is super interesting to me lol

Sneak peak at a project I'm working on - I'm making a compilation of every canon Spinjitzu scene in Ninjago, including Dragons Rising, the 2011 mini-movies, the Virtues of Spinjitzu, and the Tales of the Monastery.

Forbidden Spinjitzu and Spinjitzu Burst will be included, but Airjitzu and Shatterspin might not be (I haven't decided that yet).

I'll even be keeping count of every time each individual character does Spinjitzu to see who does it the most times across the series.

This video shows only the Pilot episodes' Spinjitzu scenes, but I've already made it halfway through S3, so I should be finished by the end of February.

The difference in the actual Ice Emperor and the Virtues of Spinjitzu Ice Emperor is actually pretty interesting. You could make an argument that the writers just couldn’t keep their writing consistent, but honestly, I think it was a good choice.

The entire gauntlet was a creation of Wu. Everything else there, he experienced in some capacity, except the Never-Realm. That is how he imagined the Ice Emperor because he can’t imagine Zane as the coldhearted, genocidal emperor he was. He couldn’t think of a Zane so lethargic that he only wakes up when absolutely necessary. He thinks of the Zane who loves to pretend he’s a detective or the Zane who followed a bird because it danced. He makes him more aligned with Zane’s personality. Like, that’s if Zane downloaded thousands of terabytes of books and movies on emperors to prepare for the role.

Anyways this is why I think think Virtues of Spinjitzu is still consistent to the Ice Emperor’s character, because it wasn’t him in the first place.

Similarly, in Return of the Ice Emperor, we pretty much know Zane’s locked those memories away. (Referencing the Quest for Lost Powers again.) The Ice Emperor is still in there, but he can’t remember how to act as the Emperor. He’s just repeating fragmented parts of the Emperor. Like, “There is no Zane.” or by asking Vex to take Ronin to the dungeon. It’s just Zane’s mind putting together the small fragments of what it has to be him.

Been hyperfixed on this silly little guy for a while and just like talking about him.

ooo! That is an interesting question. My first instinct is to say 'productivity' like a sort of 'don't put off until tomorrow' moral, because we all know Pixal is the queen of proactive planning.

Elemental Powers Headcanons (pt.1?)

Lloyd: Energy is what was left behind from him giving up his Golden Power. He cannot create things like ice, pick up and move things like earth and fire and he cannot attract things like lightning anymore. The energy that the four elements of creation, that he could previously use, left behind is not destructive but the angrier he is the more painful his attacks can be. Since energy is all around us in some way, as well as inside us, his enemies tend to fly backwards due to the energy inside the person colliding with the energy Lloyd shot at them. Since his intense training between s7 and s8 to become more in-tune with his powers he is capable of using them as a shield. That ability was always there, he just hadn't trained enough to find out about it. This is because there is already energy inside him due to him being a living thing and with all the training he had done his body was capable of protecting itself with energy now, making him glow green whenever he took a bad hit (s8 Kryptarium Prison fight with his father). This also happens when he collides with another elemental master, making them also glow briefly in the color of their element (Virtues of Spinjitzu shorts when him and Kai collide). When he's in his oni form it's pretty much the same, except Lloyd no longer holds back so it can become more destructive/painful if you get hit. His emotions are more important to his control over his power then it may seem at first glance.
