In 2023, the inaugural Solarpunk Conference was held in virtual space, bringing together over 150 attendees, 18 presenters, and creating a palpable sense of the solarpunk community. This episode, Ariel chats with conference organizers Charles Valsechi, Lindsay Jane, and Kees Schuller about the genesis of the conference, the inspiration for its theme, as well as a little preview of what they are hoping to see at the 2024 Solarpunk Conference: Rays of Resilience.
You can go to https://www.solarpunkconference.com/ to check out The Solarpunk Conference, access The Solarpunk Conference Journal, and buy tickets. You can also check out the channel  @solarpunkconference  on YouTube for recordings of last year’s presentations, and stop by Lindsay Jane's channel  @TheSolarpunkScene  for more solarpunky content!

Solarpunk Conference: Virtual Event on June 29, 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi, folks! This year’s Solarpunk Conference will take place virtually on June 29th, 2024. Here is a link to the website if you’re interested in listening to a variety of panels talk about all things solarpunk.
Solarpunk Magazine co-EIC Brianna Castagnozzi will speak on a panel about conflict within solarpunk stories. The panel will also feature podcast hosts and scholars Ariel Kroon and Christina De La Rocha and editors and writers Holly Schofield, Jack Nicholls, and Selena Middleton.
We hope to see you there!
(Note that Solarpunk Magazine is not affiliated with the conference; it is its own event).

kickstarter
I wanted to signal-boost this upcoming virtual Solarpunk Conference and its associated crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The conference itself is set to be held on June 24, 2023. Invited speakers include Andrew Sage of the Andrewism YouTube channel, as well as Sarena Ulibarri of the solarpunk anthology Glass and Gardens, as well as others.
To clarify, I am completely unassociated with the conference. I am sharing this information out of my own personal interest in Andrew Sage's activities and the broader solarpunk movement.
You may be interested in reserving tickets for yourself or solidarity tickets allowing for another person with limited means to attend. Otherwise, you can contribute to this crowdfunding campaign in order to help cover funds going to logistics, accessibility features, a fair wage for speakers, and EDI and decolonization needs.
Some members of the team behind this conference can be found in the comments of this reddit post, answering questions re: ticket pricing and the accessibility of the conference.
Finally, here is the conference's linktr.ee, containing links to a code of ethics, a Discord server, and more.
That's all! Stay punk, solarpunks. 🔆
