Aaravos moves in an inhumanly graceful manner, the fabric of his outfit moving hypnotically with his body. Viren forgets why he's here as he watches. He's hopelessly entranced, every movement seemingly drawing him in further. The elf slides to his knees, violet legs peeking from the midnight blue garments. Viren flushes as he notices the imprints of his own fingers on the elf's thighs, barely visible on his dark skin. Viren lifts his gaze to Aaravos' face, only to meet the elf's vibrant eyes from across the crowd. Was Aaravos dancing for Lord Farrow, or for Viren?

It used to be easy to figure out who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. Now, Callum has his doubts. Aaravos visits him in his dreams, and the more he hears, the less he knows. Their conversations are far from the subtle whispers Aaravos apparently relied on, yet Aaravos almost seems to relish each one. What Callum thought was a one sided power dynamic turns into much more, including a bargain Callum can't refuse. After his release, Aaravos's plans involve more people than just Callum, and before Callum knows it, he's swept up with his least favorite people in the world: Viren and Claudia, alongside the rest of their little group, repressing his doubt that his worst enemies can change. Yet, as Callum learns new magic and unravels the truth of each of his companions, the world on high alert as every nation faces what Aaravos's return means. Perhaps Aaravos isn't the only one with surprises lurking inside.

Updated summary and info post for my ongoing fic, The Devil You Thought You Knew. At this time, it's at 113k words and projected to finish around 200k. Both Aaravos and Mage Fam make up the main cast in this fic, which is mostly from Callum's POV. There are shifts to other characters such as Rayla and Ezran.

There's also world building/expansion in later chapters in regards to humanity's relationship with magic and Aaravos, focused on Evenere in particular. Worldbuilding, relationships, and downtime to process the emotional rollercoaster are all given focus, but there's plenty of plot twists ahead yet!

Consider: Modern day Viravos AU where Aaravos runs a small library on a really obscure corner of a street but just so happens to have a book on magic listed online that Viren has been searching for for ages. So, Viren goes down in hopes of just getting the book and getting out, only to experience immediate gay panic at the sight of the attractive elf running the store. Viren, despite only having planned to borrow the one book, finds himself borrowing a new book every time he goes to return an old one just to give himself an excuse to keep coming back.

Aaravos, on the other hand, is simply enjoying teasing the ever-loving fuck out of Viren every time he returns, and may or may not be making sure he puts very specific books on magic/history/something he thinks Viren will be interested in on display right in front of the entrance.

…also it’s a soulmate au, like the one with soulmate identifying marks, but Viren’s mark is on his knee and Aaravos’s is on the back of his neck so they don’t realize until Aaravos has his hair pulled back one day and Viren sees it and all but sprints out of the store in panic.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to see the new season streamed live on Twitter. I don’t have Twitter, and either way I want to pace myself on my own terms when it comes to watching this season. I’m pretty sure I have most of the day it comes out off so I can pretty much binge the whole show in one sitting if I want to.

With that being said, I might not be on Tumblr much because I’ll want to avoid spoilers. However, when I do finish the season, there’s a chance I’ll post some big spoilers from it. As many other people are also requesting, please block tags like #tdp season 6, #tdp s6 spoilers, and #tdp spoilers if you don’t want to see any spoilers from my blog. I don’t have a set date for when I’ll stop tagging posts using those tags, but it’ll probably be at the beginning of August.

Now that that’s out of the way, here’s some personal updates in case anyone is curious.

I am still working on my fanfiction I said I was working on earlier. Even if some major important lore is revealed in the new season, I’m going to still continue writing my fanfic with the lore I created and wanted to include in it anyways. I have been working on this fanfic for a while now and I don’t plan on not writing it or changing what I already have planned for it after this season drops.

It’ll be posted on AO3 and it’s a Viravos and Magefam centered fanfic, but I’ll try to focus a lot of it on a lot of the other main characters in the series too. I’ll share more information about the actual story once I either post the first few chapters or the finished piece.

As for other stuff I said I’d post, I am not sure if I’ll be able to get all the posts out I wanted to before the season gets out, but I’ll still try to. And either way, I think it’ll turn out fine if I don’t.

I really want to write viravos fanfiction, but I think with Aaravos being potentially more morally-grayish and not really evil and his back story and motivations for everything yet to be revealed makes it kind of difficult and I don't really feel like I can even get his characterization even remotely right.

First of all, thank you for everything you do for the fandom. I always love your screenshots + meaningful text combinations, they are so good! Thanks to you I have also added some new amazing songs to my playlists (Dark Horse and Anti-hero included).

I have a question and a song to share. First goes the question: do you happen to know any, just ANY tdp fanfiction which explores the what-if scenario where team Zym loses the Battle of the Storm Spire? If not, it would be great if you shared your own thoughts about it. Like, what if Viren & Aaravos succeeded in draining power from Zym? What would happen then? I tried to find something on Ao3 but all I got was a couple of works focused entirely on Viravos or something about reincarnation. Which is fine but not exactly what I am looking for.

I'd also like to share a song with you. It's Storm by Blackmore's Night. As the title suggests, it's about the storm and I've been fascinated with this song for a few years now. Maybe you'll like it too :)

Aww thank you so much, that is so sweet!! I can't think of any fics or headcanon posts I've seen like that along those regards, but I do have a tag for canon divergences in general and one for my specific explorations.

I think the biggest thing to consider would be if Zym was successfully killed or not.

1. Zym lives

This means the kids can potentially, if frantically, flee, with Janai and Amaya and any other surviving Sunfire elves being captured. Soren and co. could go looking for other archdragons (I'm sure Rayla would've heard of Rex Igneous) or Earthblood allies who would either worry about the encroaching invasion and/or recognize Zym as the future heir and advocate for his sovereignty. The biggest change here is that Lux Aurea is like, even more devastated, and I could see Janai being executed bc she's the next heir, but who knows

Kids come back six months later with an Earthblood army (also don't think the monster-humans would survive or thrive well long term, so that depletion could be over time) but it may not even matter, depending on what Aaravos' endgame (release?) was for harvesting Zym in the first place

2. Zym dies

This one is trickier, as it leaves us with a very heartbroken Ezran (the mind/soul link so recently formed and so brutally severed) and with no draconic heir. As long as Zym was alive, the kids would have hope, so with him gone I think they'd be very dejected (and of course, grieving their friend). I could see Ezran falling into a depression of sorts, just because he'd probably blame himself for his handling of the kingdom's troops, and he was the closest to Zym. Callum would delegate more time/thought to his brother as a result, leaving Soren and Rayla to maybe bond a bit more in terms of leading the group and figuring out what to do next, bound by the goal of keeping the remaining princes alive until they can figure out a plan. (Callum would also probably get his hands on a dark magic book, Just In Case, because I don't think he'd been willing to hold anything back now that he and particularly Ezran are Viren + Aaravos' #1 targets, in terms of eliminating any kind of uprising).

I could see Rayla bringing everyone back to the Silvergrove, as it is cloaked by illusions, and they can still interact with objects even if no one can see them, so it's kind of the perfect place to hide. Then maybe Callum and Rayla would go look for again, arch dragons or possible reinforcements, leaving Soren to look after Ezran when they'd do reconnaissance, since Rayla is their Xadian guide and Callum doesn't want her to go alone

This would probably be more of a slow build, and I could see them travelling to Duren as well (which, I suppose Aanya would be captured and executed for treason against the Pentarchy, just because Viren could - although I could see Claudia feeling bad/awkward about executing a girl who's not much younger than herself? Unexpected imprisoned Aanya and sympathetic conflicted Claudia bonding? Opeli gets executed, hopefully Corvus escapes). But yeah, two years before they can come back and take the throne, and I could see Callum and Rayla both becoming a bit more cut throat because they've had two years of like, protecting Ezran at the forefront, and surviving in the wild long term when you're hunted fugitives is just a different kind of experience. Ezran, because of their sheltering, remains just as kind, but he's much much Sadder in his day to day presentation, and that never entirely goes away

Depending on whether the Illusion stabbing happened - and let's just say that it didn't - I could see Claudia trying to reach out to and track down Soren, convinced she can get him to come home now that 'his side lost' and 'there's nothing left for him there anymore, can you get over your identity crisis and come home'. So I feel like Soren would actually probably be Angrier at Claudia in his scenario here than he is in canon, just because he sees more of the long lasting destruction and doesn't have victory to make him worried about his sister

Feel free to send in other asks and thoughts about this lil scenario (either one), it's definitely an interesting one to consider! Or any other canon divergences, really - I have a tiny list of ones I know I want to write drabbles for at the very least

The next chapter of collapsar is going to be from Aaravos’ perspective with some good old Claudia and Aaravos bonding. I want to go in depth on how their relationship grew while Claudia had only Aaravos to rely on as she resurrected her dad. What kind of relationship did they have? No nonsense? Teacher/student? Or maybe they formed a friendship?

Checkmate

"Poof!" Aaravos giggled to himself, the lightness at sharp odds with the high stakes Viren felt bearing down on him more and more by the minute.

"Please."

Viren could plead for his life if he must. He looked at Aaravos's amused expression, reminiscent of a cat batting at yarn, while Viren felt his world diminishing, his breaths labeled with numbers. Hours. That was all he had.

Aaravos angled his head, still smiling. "Please what?"

They'd played this game before, of pushing and pulling, of choosing what angle to show to the mirror, of pretending Viren had ever had any power over the being before him. He'd been foolish, but desperate. He'd thought back then that he'd run out of options. Now, now he understood how it truly felt to be backed against a wall, to have death staring him in the face. Now he knew optionless.

Aaravos had won so completely that he held Viren’s remaining time like grains of sand to play with between his palms.

Viren was done playing.

"Aaravos, please." Viren was only a lavender projection, but he had no doubt he could sob if he must. "I'd do anything. Even if you have no fondness for me, please, for Claudia."

Aaravos raised his eyebrows. He leisurely paced around Viren, circling like a shark. His smirk was audible in his tone. "You speak like you're the dirt under my feet, yet you still stand."

He knew that cue.

Viren sank to his knees in defeat, head bowed. His heart pounded, he trembled too much to talk back, to protest.

Aaravos continued. "There. Now, do you truly know your place, or is it that we forgot your spine when reassembling you?" he mused.

The words tasted like dust. "You won, Aaravos. I- I know my place."

"Oh, I think you're starting to learn it, yes."

Aaravos crouched down. He reached his hand out and laid it on Viren's cheek. Somehow, he was able to sustain the physical touch. Viren's eyes widened as Aaravos tenderly raised Viren's gaze up to his, pure fear meeting smug control. Aaravos's hand drifted down like a caress until he reached Viren's neck. He closed his hand around Viren's throat.

"Please," Viren wheezed. "Aaravos, please, I'll do whatever you want. I never betrayed you. I did all you asked!" Viren's spirit broke, pressed between the ticking clock he felt in his bones and Aaravo's grip. He coughed on a sob, shaking so hard he was wondering if all of this was enough to have a panic attack on top of it all.

Aaravos leaned close. "So, you admit you are mine?" Aaravos murmured in his ear.

Chills ran through Viren. "Yes. Yes, I am. Aaravos."

Aaravos let Viren's neck go, instead stroking his hair as Viren gasped. He even pressed a kiss to the top of Viren's head.

"I am merciful, Viren, unlike our enemies." Aaravos smiled, voice still a purr. "You won't become my enemy, of course, so you have nothing to fear."

Viren barely managed to nod. Surrendered down to his free will, kept obedient even without the use of the strings Aaravos could pull on any time. How much of a life was this?

Aaravos stood upright, looming over Viren, eyes deceptively warm. "I'm so glad we understand each other."
