The Reddit folks pointed out something interesting about these three Taiwanese BLS:

Kiseki: Dear to Me (Miracle) had a visual trailer years ago for the book release, and it was Stan Huang (VIP Only) as Fan Ze Rui and Benjamin Tsang (The On1y One) in Bai Zong Yi's role.

It was believed they would act in the actual series as those characters.

So just know we could have had them there!

Instead of these two.

But Stan is showing up in The On1y One, so we could still have them in a way!

Since I won't just put What Did You Eat Yesterday? five times on this list, I'll use the show that had a whole episode that felt like an homage to WDYEY. This moment was so tender. You felt like they had made some important progress here, and then it's ruined in the next scene. I still think about this moment.

Eli Trying to Complete Nikko's Bucket List in The Day I Loved You

The earnestness and tenderness of this almost broke me when I watched this. We all know Nikko doesn't have much time, and it was really sweet of Eli to try to do what he could.

Lee Wan's Meaningful Butt Pat in Our Dating Sim

This spoke volumes about the last year of their lives in the quick montage. These two finally look comfortable and like they resolved their alignment issues.

Gu Jing Taking Care of Liu Li in VIP Only

This man has so much love to give and it's pouring out of him in everything he says and does. This show is a bit weak, but I like this character a lot and how specifically he takes care of Liu Li's tastes and challenges.

Okay, serious question: what is it about VIP Only that makes me fall asleep? I'm not even joking - halfway through each of the last four episodes, I have had to fight dozing off hard-core.

And my first thought was maybe it's boring... but actually, generally, I'm enjoying it. So why do I want to take a nap?.

(Also, I'm gonna have to punch Gu Jin in the face for making Liu Li cry. I don't make the rules, I just follow 'em.)

AHHHH the cameo of You Are Mine boys in VIP Only!!!! It came without any warning!!! What is this surprise!! I love it but my heart fr stopped beating for a second and I had to rewind and check if I'm not seeing things. I've missed them so much ueueueue

VIP Only was a sweet little thing - 10 x 20 mins or so and packed full of tropes. Off the top of my head: crash into you, baby is a floppy drunk, falling onto his lips, 'fake' dating, love triangle (I did love the childish squabbling/jealousy of our two semes - the sequence on the stairs was hilarious), fireman carry, piggyback, noble sacrifice and, of course, they knew each other as children. Excellent.

Liu Li's friend Lai Tsai tries for the Namgoong Best Wingman Award but messes up a bit with the blind date before salvaging the situation with the help of Da Ren but nobody's beating out my Light On Me boy anytime soon. Talking of Da Ren, I love that he went from kinda ignorantly homophobic in the first eps to active cupid (and protective of his boss's interests) later on. Cute too.

Lots of nice food AGAIN - that's two series in a row that have left me drooling slightly. And I liked that the uke was the one to step up and face down the seme's awful mother. Good boy. Made up for the fact that he let his former crush crash his romantic dinner - not just crash but sit in Gu Jing's seat and eat his food. Da Ren's aggressive wait service was hilarious.

Worth a binge when you want something Taiwanese and short to nibble on. Also CAPYBARA!

VIP Only Ep 3 Stray Thoughts

Last week, we began the latest BL from this Taiwanese outfit, and I am relieved at how refreshingly balanced it has felt so far. Liu Li is a writer that had two big hits but is now facing debilitating writers block. He frequents the restaurant beneath his apartment because he likes their noodle soups. Liu Li's friend thinks that a new romance could inspire his writing, and so organized a blind date with a guy he hopes could be his type (the friend knows Liu Li is still hung up on an old crush). The date goes poorly because the date is rude as hell, and then Liu Li gets drunk. The owner, Gu Jing seems to feel warmly about Liu Li, and took care of him while he was drunk. We learned that Gu Jing has unknowingly been a fan of Liu Li's work this whole time.

Da Ren's open dislike of Liu Li is actually so funny.

Yes, Da Ren, spill this tea for us. Apparently Boss Gu was previously a successful marketing professional whose career was crushed by a rumor.

Remember when I thanked them for sparing me from vomit last week? I take that back.

Oh to have an extremely attractive man make me soup for my hangover and make eggs for me.

This cast is extremely attractive.

The Third Flavor: When the mild taste stays the memories will continue

An aquarium date and a lean over to buckle his seatbelt? We stay winning.

I really enjoy the slower pace of this show after You Are Mine. Stay by My Side ended abruptly, and You Are Mine was too chaotic. This is the right tempo for me.

Introduction - Toki-kun and Sahara sensei are introduced and the stage is set. Romance buds.

Development - The couple grows close and their relationship blossoms.

Twist - Sahara sensei's white moonlight* confesses that he has always loved him.

Conclusion - Sahara rejects his white moonlight and the couple gets HE.

[So did VIP Only (2023) to an extent.]

*White moonlight – in Chinese, Tamil and Malayali cultures (among other probably), white moonlight refers to love-interest. It is frequently in reference to someone you don’t end up with but has had profound impact on you.
