I've had a flare-up of plantar fasciitis recently, probably due to walking a six mile round trip to work along hard paving (on the days when I don't cycle). I first suffered this 19 years ago. A visit to the GP didn't produce results: 'Doctor, it hurts when I walk.' 'Well, stop walking, then.' So I had a chat with the physio who'd helped with a recent broken arm, and also the staff at Needlesports. Both suggested Rebound and, £385 later, I had a pair of custom orthotic insoles which sorted out the over-pronation that had caused the plantar fasciitis. A second consultation nine years later, with new insoles, kept it at bay until just recently, when I started waking up to that old 'knitting needle in the heel ' feeling...

I can't justify (or afford) £450 at the moment, so thought I'd try off-the-shelf insoles. The Vionic ones feel a bit odd, not quite the right shape, but the FootActive ones are pretty good. They've sorted out my feet for now, anyway. I'll probably buy a few sets, rather than using one set swapped around between footwear as I used to do.

In all cases, what I do with these 3/4 length orthotics is cut the heel off the stock insole that comes with new footwear, then glue the toe section into the boot or shoe so it doesn't move around. The orthotics stay put, held in place by my heels.

Do you know where I can get good shoes for standing all day at work? I'm a cashier and I want some cute like combat boots to wear but I'm not really sure because most work shoes are sneakers? I know it's dumb but I feel so ugly at work and I'm there 90 percent of my life anyway so might as well try to feel good about how I look no? Lol
