Ed keeps talking to Max and Max, except for that "Ed." as a greeting, is just completely unresponsive. Like not talking back for the entire page. At some point he turns away from Ed, still not responding to them, to stare at Violet as she walks away. And he does this for two straight panels while Ed just keeps going. What the hell man

My favorite ship other than Viomax has got to be the evil fucked up Violet-Lisa-Max polycule (+ Lisamax by proxy). I started shipping Lisamax for 'comedy purposes' but it very quickly spiraled out of control into something I take seriously. "But she's blackmailing Max, there's a power imbalance" this only adds to the comedic potential and also they are in middle school. I think it'd be so absurdly funny if Lisa kept sending Max on errands under the guise of "you have to, I'm blackmailing you, lol" and Max keeps acting like, "I hate my life I hate having to do this I hate you" but then he starts doing favors for Lisa even when she doesn't ask and it's anyone's guess as to why he keeps pretending he doesn't want to help her out. If they were to get into a physical altercation, they'd be perfectly evenly matched, because Max is equally advantaged in agility/parkour as Lisa is in brute strength. It would just be Max launching himself off lockers at her and Lisa grabbing him and throwing him around in response. There would be no winner and it would go on for forever. Their ship name is Star Player, by the way. I came up with it because I'm awesome and I love wordplay. Considering Lisamax are Like That, Violisamax is automatically a chaotic relationship configuration. Can you tell I lost my shit at the school store scene? If the three of them don't show up in another scene together I'll have to throw a chair.

In terms of fun Team Names: I've been calling Lisa and Max 'Star Player' for a while now. My favorite hobby is explaining the context behind that name. It's because Max is baseball-player themed, and being the protagonist/new kid that everyone loves, he's kind of the most 'valuable' person Lisa has under her thumb at the moment. And then there's an added bonus with the Star bit referencing Lisa's Starchman Star collection!!

I like to call the Cody-Violet teamup 'Vampunch', though that one's a bit less clever than Star Player. The idea was Vampire (Cody) -> Vampunk (the punk bit is Violet) -> Vampunch (like Fruit Punch)

Not sure how much I like it, and I use 'Viomax' all the time anyway, but I think 'Steelheart' for Violet and Max would be pretty cool haha, I think the wordplay behind that one is obvious

Wait, I love all of these!!! Also, I love the idea of a vampire-themed juice. And Steelheart is so cool.

Violet and Max are just. A tragedy waiting to happen. Max's spectral status is a permanent barrier; Violet doesn't know it yet, but all of her biggest problems, all those feelings she has about people 'hiding things from her' and 'being the only sane one' are due to the existence of the supernatural. She wants answers but she can't have them, because she's not a spectral.

And the thing is, Max has shown an understandable level of flippancy when it comes to keeping it all secret. "Why?" is a really good question to ask. And Spender doesn't have an answer because yeah, there isn't anything stopping Max from spilling the beans, not really. And there hasn't been a good reason presented to him on why he shouldn't!

But would Violet believe Max if he told her? The thing is, without being able to see it for herself, I have no clue why she would. It's just so unbelievable, right? At worst it could come off as a dismissal of her feelings - "sorry you feel like you're losing your mind. unfortunately, It's Because Of The Ghosts"

Anyways. This post is about Viomax. So Max has the answers Violet needs, has the answer to the BIG question, "why the hell is this town so weird", but there's no way of letting her know. And at this point, Max is part of the crowd of weirdos. I can't imagine a scenario in which they become better friends and Violet DOESN'T realize he's hiding something from her. Violet needs honesty without obscurity; Max is both honest and much less obscure than his peers, but can't give Violet what she needs.

That being said while their dynamic is heavily built on angsty foundations, we're going to mostly ignore it for the sake of having them banter, because I need them to have nice things. *clamps my hand down on your shoulder* We're in this together. You don't have a choice.

The problem with Viomax is that it is a deeply complex thought experiment slash situationship for both characters involved, no matter what form the dynamic takes, and thus aids a lot of cool and interesting character analysis - but formatting intelligent analysis/theory posts takes time and effort, and so I am forced to resort to making stupid nonsensical posts about them instead of explaining why exactly they’re so appealing. I can imagine that someone who doesn't go for rarepairs when shipping would probably (rightfully) regard Viomax as an extremely random ship. The thing is, the ship (platonic, romantic, secret third thing, it doesn't really matter) is less random/weird the more you think about it. There isn't much canon content to go off of, sure, but their characters are perfectly set up to have a really interesting dynamic with each other. You wanna ACTUALLY get weird with it? Let's talk about adding in Lisa-

I am a HUGE fan of BOTH ships!! Let me answer both!!

Suzy and Dimitri was a ship made all the better by Chapter 8, in my opinion. I've always been a bit into the idea of a poly J-Club, but my investment in ships between the three of them only increased when we got to see Suzy and Dimitri in isolation. The two have such a strong foundation in canon, you know? Dimitri is so willing to go along with Suzy's shenanigans! Even when he's actively sabotaging her spying on Max in Chapter 5, it's comedic and lighthearted! Also, there are few things more tragic than having to contend with someone you love moving away. ESPECIALLY when you're that young. Suzy and Dimitri have a cute, strong relationship with each other that regardless possesses an emotional weight that I LOVE to think about. While I think these two are careening towards a bit of a tragedy in their relationship (Suzy's going to find out eventually), I don't think they're going to have an unhappy ending. They strike me as a pair who could spend their whole lives together, going from place to place, whether it's a romantic thing or not.

VIOJOHNNY IS REALLY FUNNY. I'm a huge fan of these two as a ship, which means it's hard for me to know what to say about them. I think they have potential on a comedic level AND a level of sincerity. The comedy would definitely come from the fact Violet is on Team Jeff, and would have to deal with the fact that despite it all, Johnny is the freak she has a crush on. But they're also really interesting without that!! They're both incredibly headstrong people, just in different ways. They wouldn't take any shit from each other (Violet canonically doesn't), which is how I think they'd eventually end up respecting each other. Or, Johnny would respect Violet first 'cuz of her moxie. I think they'd clash a lot, but that that's the only way they'd be able to have something healthy with each other. They can keep each other humble. I LOVE your exes interpretation, I think hostile exes Viojohnny is one of the best things I've ever heard in my life, BUT!! I'm personally into a relationship between them developing after Johnny becomes a full-fledged spectral. Johnny would light himself on fire in front of Violet and then cave after about three seconds of questioning. In a scenario in which Johnny is too in his own lane to join the Activity Club (and Violet is maaaayyybe the new spectral after Johnny but there's no canon basis for that), I could see the two being their own duo. Wanting answers and for things to work out, but distrustful of the Consortium's caginess.
