WIP Wednesday

“T…You…you’re…” he gulps. “You’re TK Strand.”  TK considers denying it but before he gets the chance, Carlos answers for him. “He sure is!”  TK glares at him and then does his best to plaster on a fake smile. He wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up looking more like a grimace as he turns to face the kids. “Yeah, that’s me. What do you want?”   The kid stumbles over his words and has to start over, cheeks bright red. “We were actually looking for a copy of your latest album. Would you sign it if we buy it?”  “Of course he will!” Carlos promises. “I’ll help you find it. I even have a polaroid camera up at the counter and can take your picture together if you want!” The corners of Carlos’s mouth twitch like he’s trying to hold back a smile and TK shoots him a murderous look as he realizes the bastard is enjoying this.  “Thank you so much, Mr. Strand! David and I have all of your records. Everyday after school, we sit around my mom’s record player and listen to them. I’ve been begging her for weeks for money to buy the new one. She finally gave it to me today. Isn’t that lucky?” the kid babbles and TK softens.  He remembers being thirteen, begging his mom for a copy of The Number of the Beast. She finally took him to Vinylmania after having lunch at their favorite dim sum spot on Spring Street one Saturday afternoon and bought him a copy. He’d give anything to have that day back. TK begrudgingly snatches the marker out of Carlos’s hand and signs the copy the kid is holding before nodding to the other boy. “Go ahead and grab a copy too. I’m buying. Keep your money for next time.”   The boy scrambles to grab another copy and TK signs that one too before digging in his wallet for a twenty dollar bill and handing it to Carlos.  “It’s actually thirty,” Carlos notes.  TK’s eyebrows raise. “Jesus, the price of records these days,” he mutters, pulling out an additional ten and handing it to Carlos.
