Colore quasi ambrato e vibrante, note aromatiche rosse e scure di prugne, mirtilli, cassis e ribes nero, melanzana e caramelllo, miele di eucalipto e zagara. Naso in questa fase fortemente marcato dal pinot nero sontuoso e meunier ricco e carnale, ci vuole un po’ perché lascino emergere lo chardonnay. Del resto è un’annata straordinaria anche per i vitigni rossi e si sente in ogni istante. Emergono note di torrefazione e sentori marini come della polvere di caffè adagiata su una ostrica belon, si apre sfaccettato di agrumi e frutta di bosco ma non dimentica le note carnose e iodate miste a vegetali intriganti, verbena, vetiver. Il sorso composito e sinfonico, un quadro autunnale di grande fascino e signorilità che impressiona. Prestando attenzione è come se avesse una parte autunnale e all’occaso che finisce però primaverile e aurorale con un risveglio di suoni e profumi dalla progressione impressionante in cui trovano spazio candidi, zest, finocchietto, kiwi giallo, papaya prima di lasciar spazio a mele in crostata, pan di Spagna, burro e crosta di pane con noci e olive. 2008 Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro is one of the best vintages of this wine I have had. This bottle was stunning. This blend of 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedirosso drinks incredibly similar to top tier St. Julien. It has the same cigar box and pencil shaving notes and very similar cassis and cherry fruit. Galardi is without doubt one of the best winemakers on the planet and I'd be comfortable saying that if this is the only wine I could drink until the day I die, it would be a privilege and I'd never get bored.
