Memory Reboot - A One-Sided Radiostatic One-Shot (Vox x Alastor)
Third person - Fluff, Pining, Angst - mild adult references
~ A03 Link ~ text is also included below after the break ~ excuse the crappy art ~
Summary: Every now and then, Vox allows himself a trip down memory lane; back to when he and Alastor were good friends. This night, Vox rediscovers an old bit of memorabilia that has him reminiscing, all about one night when he and the Radio Demon shared a drink or two. The memory is a bittersweet reminder of what could have been, and what almost happened; lips meeting for the sweetest of stolen moments.
---------------------------------
Vox stumbles into his room, clumsy and heavy with drink. He bashes his head into the door as it rebounds; groaning, he rubs at his screen with a grimace.
Drinking alone is always a bad idea. With the other two Vees both out for the night, Vox had allowed himself a little more stalking than he usually does; drinking in his surveillance room, watching and rewatching clips of the Radio Demon going about his day. It’s obsessive; Vox knows it is. He still can’t help himself.
He teeters wildly on his legs now, looking through his belongings for some painkillers for the inevitable screen-ache he’ll have in the morning; where the fuck are they?!
Not a single drawer he searches yields any results. Vox tosses items left and right, searching through masses of cables and piles of clothes. He rifles through his bathroom cabinet, knocking down an assortment of pill bottles in the process; none of them what he needs right now.
“Fuck my life,” the Television Demon mutters to himself.
On his hands and knees, he pulls out a bottom drawer from a huge dresser. Vox moves sloppily with inebriation as he pilfers through all the junk and bric-a-brac. And then - his hand is on something that feels familiar yet forgotten all at once. Vox pulls it out; and there it is.
His electric heart shudders within his chest.
The tiny die-cast CRT TV model that Alastor had gifted to him years ago. So many years ago. So long ago, in-fact, that when Alastor had presented Vox with this small model, it had been exactly what Vox’s own head had looked like. A chunky, heavy, 70s television. Long outdated technology, these days, of course; Vox has upgraded several times over the years since then.
Vox can hardly believe his tired eyes; it’s been years since he thought about this. He remembers the night Alastor gave it to him all too well - too painfully well. Vox sighs; his sadness threatening to leak into the forefront of his drink-weakened mind.
The search for the painkillers now given up on and forgotten, Vox crawls to his bed and lays on it in the dark, the small metal totem still in his hand. Neon lights from the city outside dance and skitter on the walls. Vox stares at the ceiling.
He can’t help himself; the memory begins to play in his mind, like an old VHS recording, discovered and dusty. Vox usually represses these memories, but for some reason, he allows this one to consume his thoughts this night. He drifts off into it; a broken heart indulging itself despite the pain.
---------------------------------
It’s the past. Long, long ago; some time in the 1970s. Vox is drinking with Alastor - the Radio Demon, his friend. They are drinking together in Alastor’s old apartment, sharing each other’s company in the easy way that they used to. The apartment is full of antique furniture and vintage radio paraphernalia; Vox has been here many times, and yet he always eyes Alastor’s decor with the same dry observations.
“You really need to get with the times, Al,” Vox says. “Get some more modern stuff.”
The Television Demon gawks at himself in an ornate mirror on the wall; his on-screen features blink back at him, set in his wide CRT TV head.
“Nonsense,” Alastor calls from the kitchen. “There’s nothing wrong with my decor choices. Some things never go out of style.”
Vox huffs in amusement to himself. Secretly, he adores Alastor’s presentation. Vox looks up to the Radio Demon; he admires him. Vox wants to be just like Alastor, really. Powerful, respected, smart, classy. Alastor is everything Vox wants to be. At this point in time, Vox is a much weaker Overlord than Alastor, having only been in Hell for less than twenty years. It’s never an issue between them, of course, but Vox knows he is inferior. One day, he’ll be better.
The Television Demon joins his friend in the kitchen then; Alastor is pouring new glasses of drink for them. Something expensive.
“Woah,” Vox says, laughing. “What are we celebrating?”
“Well, I was wondering when you’d ask,” Alastor says sassily. “I took down another one of my rivals today.”
Vox blinks. His screen buzzes.
“Another Overlord?” He asks, both impressed and appalled.
Alastor nods, pleased.
“Don’t look so surprised,” Alastor says, grinning. “It was no effort at all, really. Hardly worth you looking so gormless over. What fun it was though!”
Vox laughs nervously.
“Well, uh, that’s great, Al!” He says, accepting the drink. “You gotta promise not to ever try and take me down like that though, huh?”
It’s a weak joke; both demons know that it stinks of a true fear. Alastor scoffs.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Vox,” the Radio Demon says. “How long have we known each other now, hmm?”
Vox scans his memories to try and answer accurately.
“Uhhh… Well years,” he says. “Almost two decades.”
“Exactly. And have I ever once betrayed you?” Alastor asks, gesturing for them to sit at the table.
Vox follows Alastor’s lead and sits.
“I guess not,” Vox says.
The two demons sit in silence for a while; which is odd, given how prone to idle conversation they both usually are. Alastor hums along to a jazz tune playing in the background; Vox fiddles with his glass.
Alastor is deep in contented thought; eyes closed, a red claw tapping at the table to the rhythm of the song. Vox takes a gulp of his drink, still not knowing what it is; his question is answered as soon as it hits his throat. Some kind of very strong spiced rum, neat on ice. The Television Demon coughs a little, white noise filling the silence. Alastor grins.
Vox looks up at his friend then; sees his smile. His own grin creeps up on to his screen. How simple it is between them; how easy it’s always been. Just the two of them. Alastor doesn’t have many friends; Vox is honoured to be one of them. Friends. Vox wishes they were so much more.
“You know,” Vox says then, staring at his drink. “We could be something. Together, I mean.”
Alastor’s neck snaps a little as his head twitches to the side in confusion.
“Something?”
Vox hastens to clarify.
“You know. A team. Take down Overlords together,” he says.
Alastor seems to genuinely consider this for a moment; he drifts away into the thought of it. Vox lets himself hope for a second; his hopes are dashed just as quickly.
“Hmm,” Alastor says. “You know me, though! I prefer to work solo.”
Vox slumps a little. His work shirt sleeves are rolled up messily; one begins to loosen from its turn-up, so he focuses on re-rolling it.
“I know,” he says. “Doesn’t it ever get lonely, though?”
“I don’t think so,” Alastor says, amused.
“Oh.”
The Radio Demon ponders this for a beat longer; he senses he has insulted his friend somehow. This is meant to be a nice evening celebrating his latest victory; Alastor supposes he should show a little courtesy to keep things jovial.
“I suppose it does, sometimes,” Alastor says.
Vox feels his inner wiring twisting in his abdomen.
“Oh?”
Alastor rolls his eyes; must he elaborate?
“Well, I suppose having more allies couldn’t hurt,” he says.
“Oh, well,” Vox says. “I could… I could be that for you?”
Alastor grins.
“In your current state, I feel you may not be of any use to me, Vox old pal,” Alastor teases. “Come back to me when you’re stronger, hmm?”
The Radio Demon knocks playfully on the side of Vox’s clunky CRT head; it echoes within him. Vox knows that Alastor only means this as a cheeky gibe between friends; it wounds him all the same.
Vox lets out a nervous laugh as response and tries to conceal the hurt.
The night is salvaged somewhat; the two demons continue to drink into the early hours. They chat, they listen to music, they share stories about various occurrences in Hell. Despite the fact they are undying souls in burning eternity, they are also both something else; two beings who both died as young men, now frozen in time.
Alastor isn’t who he’ll truly be just yet; neither is Vox. In this memory, they are their younger, slightly sweeter selves. It’s enough to make present-day Vox cry with how much he’d give anything to have those days back.
Towards the end of the night, the two demons sit side by side together, wasted. They use the sofa as a backrest as they sit sloppily on the floor. Vox hiccups and it sounds like a channel being changed; Alastor laughs.
“You know,” the Radio Demon starts. “I do enjoy these little chats of ours, despite our conflicting technology.”
Vox is giddy; he nods, eager.
“One day I’m gonna be great, Al,” Vox says, suddenly. “I’m gonna build an empire. It’s gonna be huge.”
Alastor smiles; it’s the soft, fond smile of a friend humouring someone.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah,” Vox says, slurring slightly. “And I’ll be as strong as you - no! - even stronger.”
Alastor is laughing; genuine and warm. Vox grins wide at the sound of it.
“I’ll take over all of Hell!” Vox says, clenching a fist.
Alastor chuckles.
“Hm. That sounds nice,” he says, drunk and feeling it.
“Well,” Vox starts. “You’ll be there with me, right?”
Alastor quirks his head.
“Will I?”
“Sure! We’ll do it together,” Vox says, wicked intent on his screened features. “We’ll rule Hell together. No fucker will cross us with our combined skills.”
Alastor is giggling; Vox wants to climb into the sound of it and live there.
“Well, that is a lofty concept, to be sure,” Alastor says. “But it is pleasing, I have to admit. You truly do get some devious ideas don’t you?”
“Fuck yeah I do!” Vox says, delighted.
Alastor smiles to himself, looking away.
“Well, if that ever comes to fruition, you can count on me being there,” he says.
“Yeah?!” Vox is beaming. “I can’t wait for what the future brings, Al. This old thing will be the first to get an upgrade, that’s for sure.”
Vox taps his own head; even now in the late 70s, his TV set head is looking a bit vintage. Vox just needs to wait for Earth technology to advance and filter down; he can’t wait to be better. Stronger. Faster. Alastor tenses as a thought seems to come to him.
“That reminds me!” The Radio Demon says. “I have something for you.”
Alastor retrieves something from his pocket and hands it to a captivated Vox; it's a tiny metal die-cast model of a Sony Triniton KV-1820UB television set. It looks just like Vox’s current head.
“Here you are,” Alastor says, pleased with himself.
Vox is enamoured; the Radio Demon doesn’t do gifts. This is special; it means Vox is special.
“Al, I don’t know what to say,” Vox says, his nerves alive and crackling. “I can’t believe you got this for me… I love it.”
Alastor grins wide.
“I got one for me, too,” he says, holding up a tiny model of an old radio. “I found a charming boutique selling all kinds of little novelties. Aren’t they fun?”
Vox is astonished; not only did Alastor get him a gift, he got one for himself to match. This surely is symbolic? Vox’s receivers are scrabbling to interpret the signals Alastor is giving off.
“Wow, yeah, that’s uh… That’s cute, Al,” Vox says, shakily. “It’s not like you to give gifts.”
Alastor laughs.
“Well. My conquest today put me in an especially good mood, I suppose,” he says.
Vox nods.
“Thank you, Al,” he says, screen blinking. “I will treasure this. I mean it.”
Alastor’s quota for sincerity has reached its limit; eager to return the conversation to playful jibes and gossip, the Radio Demon scoffs. Vox grins; he knows Alastor hates to be perceived as kind, despite the fact he can be. Vox shoves himself into Alastor’s shoulder in a playful bump.
“You’re goin’ soft on me, old man,” Vox jokes; Alastor pretends to be aghast.
“Old man?” He scorns. “How dare you, Vox. I only died two decades before you and we were both more or less the same age at death. Watch your tongue.”
Vox chuckles to himself. The two demons sit together for a little while longer in peaceful quiet; Vox’s mind is full of static. He’s processing, thinking. Vox has tried to broach this topic before, but he can’t help himself; he needs to push it again.
“Hey, uh, Al?” He says.
Alastor looks at him and hums an acknowledgement. Vox’s gaze shifts around nervously.
“Do you remember that… conversation, we had a while ago?” Vox says.
Alastor does remember; he pretends for now that he doesn’t. He shakes his head. Vox exhales shakily.
“Look, I, uh… I know you don’t like talking about… feelings, and stuff, but…”
Alastor wants this nipped in the bud as soon as possible.
“Is this about your infatuation, hmm?” The Radio Demon says, trying to sound casual about it. “I’ve told you Vox. It will pass, it’s just a-“
“No,” Vox says, urgent. “It won’t, Al, and you know it.”
Vox grabs Alastor’s hand; the Radio Demon doesn’t recoil. He lets his claws sit limply within Vox’s; a tiny concession for this display of vulnerability. And anyway; they’ve linked hands before, when dancing or fleeing a crime scene, or such. No big deal. Alastor sighs.
“You know I can’t give you want you want,” he says, radio filter slipping away. “This is all I can give you. My time. My friendship, my consort to you as a fellow Overlord.”
Vox is exasperated.
“Can’t you give me just a little bit more?” He asks.
Alastor avoids the Television Demon’s gaze.
“I don’t think so,” he says.
Vox grabs Alastor’s chin in his, then; pulling it in his direction to make Alastor look at him.
“How do you know you won’t like it?” Vox says. “You’ve never even tried it.”
Alastor blushes at the sudden contact, the intrusiveness of it. He’s flustered simply because Vox is being so forward; any sign of aggressive intent is entertaining to Alastor, of course.
“Why don’t you let me just try?” Vox says, his voice a thin whine.
“Vox, old friend, come on now-“
“Why won’t you let me just kiss you?” Vox whispers. “Please, Al.”
Alastor hesitates; if he relents, will it be enough to just shut Vox up about this once and for all? This topic cropping up every couple of years is getting tiresome. And... he does care about Vox. Alastor loves him, in his own way; platonic but true.
“Please, Al,” Vox murmurs, his eyes fixed on Alastor’s lips. “I’m begging you. I know it’ll feel right when it happens.”
Vox’s hand tightens around Alastor’s chin; he’s trying to pull him inwards. Alastor’s heart rate quickens; annoyingly. He’s a deer in headlights; drunk and unsure how to retaliate. Vox is closing the distance between their faces; Alastor can feel their hot breath exchanging in the small gap between their mouths.
Alastor’s ears are flat against his head; Vox is staring at his lips.
“Please,” he whispers again.
“I don’t… I don’t know,” Alastor whispers back.
“Please,” Vox begs, desperate.
Alastor huffs in defeat, and Vox knows he has won. Vox leans in and presses his screen to Alastor’s mouth; for a moment, the Radio Demon is rigid. But then… his mouth is moving; Vox is elated. Alastor is relenting. Vox cannot believe it. Alastor is kissing him back; his hand at the edge of Vox’s screen. Their mouths move together quickly, the taste of rum amongst it all. Vox's mind is awash with joy.
Yes, YES. Fucking YES! This is it, this is IT!
Vox moans into Alastor’s mouth; he risks letting his tongue breech Alastor’s lips, tries sticking it down Alastor’s throat -
Alastor pulls away; Vox is devastated. Too far.
“Hmm!” Alastor says, recovering, trying to sound light-hearted. “No, still not for me, I don’t think.”
Vox is panting, red in the screen. He’s hard; of course he is. Vox’s eyes dart all over Alastor, looking for signs - proof that he did like it.
“No, Al, come on,” Vox says. “Please, you know it works, WE work, c'maaan!”
Alastor is sad; a part of him does wish he could give Vox what he wants. It would make things so much easier; it would ensure keeping his loyalty, for one. And… well. It would make things a bit less lonely. But Alastor just can’t let himself go there.
“I’m sorry, Vox,” he says, genuinely melancholy. “I’m sorry I can’t give you what you want from me. I really am.”
“No,” Vox is angry. “It cannot be like this, please, we were so close-“
“I think it’s high time we went to bed, hmm?” Alastor says. “You’re in no state to get yourself home. You can sleep on the sofa.”
“Al, stop, just, can we talk about this? Can we try again, I’ll go slower, I promise,” Vox says, grasping at straws.
Alastor smiles weakly. He reaches up and turns one of Vox’s dials fondly; Vox’s erection twitches in his jeans.
“You’ve just had too much to drink, hmm?” Alastor says. “We’ll sleep this off and tomorrow it’ll all be forgotten about.”
Alastor stands then; Vox groans, his screen in his hands.
“We’ll be back to normal tomorrow, eh, old pal?” Alastor says with forced jollity.
Vox sighs; it’s guttural. He looks up at the Radio Demon, agonised.
“I’m never going to be back to normal,” Vox says. “I’m always going to want this. I’m always going to want you.”
Alastor hesitates; he looks forlorn. Only in the eyes, of course; but his smile is a tight, thin line on his face.
“I know," he says.
Vox's heart shatters in his chest; not for the first time.
"Do try to get over it, though, won’t you?” Alastor says, and he turns to leave for his bedroom. “Get some sleep.”
Vox is left alone in the living room; ruined.
---------------------------------
The memory of that night, so many decades ago, drifts away from present-day Vox, just as cruelly as Alastor had slipped from his grasp.
The pain of it - and indeed, remembering what came later - is unbearable; Vox can only cope with these memories now by wanting Alastor dead. Just so he’d be gone for good; just to rid himself of the pain of knowing Vox never got to keep him. He came close, of course; some years later, in the 80s. For a while, Vox had had Alastor; it had been so sweet. Vox doesn’t let himself think on this, for now. It’s too brutal. He’d be a mess; for now, he needs to compose himself. Vox places the die-cast vintage TV model on his bedside table and looks at it for a few beats.
I wonder if Alastor still has his radio model.
I wonder if he still thinks of me.
Vox curls into a ball in his bed; the truth hums around him, thick and heavy, like electricity in the air before a thunderstorm.
He’ll never love me like I love him.
He never did.

Imagine, one time when TeTe comes to visit, maybe even during that very first time she comes to stay after reconnecting with Connie, Bess has a date one night. It's actually one she's excited for; she likes the guy, is definitely attracted, and they've out a few times already and he hasn't even really kissed her yet. This date feels like it might be the night and Bess wants to do anything she can to help the guy get the hint; she wants to look perfect for the special moment. She'd like to ask Theresea for help, because Theresea certainly seems to know a thing or two about looking perfect and sending undeniable signals, but also... she's never had that moment of her mom helping her get ready for a date and she'd like to even kind of have the experience. Just once. But she also doesn't want to step on toes; this is Connie's mama, after all, who is there because of her, not the other girls, and they've only recently got back into each other's lives and need as much time to reconnect as they can get. Cue Bess very nervously asking Connie if it would be all right to ask TeTe for help, then Connie having to ask her mother for Bess because she's much too nervous to actually ask TeTe herself.
Soooo ... we had fun with this. Because TeTe and Bess bonding deserves time to thrive and grow. <3
Thank you for this glorious idea, and I hope I did it justice!
₊✧A Mother's Embrace₊✧
“Honestly, darling, you should have seen the look on the doorman’s face when I walked back in – he looked as sodden as a salamander at the sight of me! About as blue as one too. The ones that always dart between the cobblestones on East 10th.”
Theresea DoGoode took another elegant sip of champagne from the amber-tinted coupe glass her daughter had offered her about half an hour before. Dressed in cream-colored turtleneck, red silk skirt and Manolo Blahnik heels, she looked right at-home in the cottage filled with regal antiques and ornate treasures from bygone eras. As natural as a model hired by Crate & Barrel to pose with her private collection for a spread on the latest hostess gifts for the holiday season.
Of course, she was not posing for a magazine. Well, not today. The millionaire philanthropist always looked elegant, even when seated in the living room of her daughter’s quaint London cottage. In fact, in her mind, that was a more worthy occasion for finery than many other instances of showboating she was often forced to put up with in her line of work.
As Theresea lifted a hand to artfully move a swoop of dark hair over her shoulder, her nails glinted in the light. They were freshly manicured, and still soft at the tips from the cuticle oil.
“What could I have possibly done to earn such a reaction?” she continued to ponder aloud, swirling the liquid casually in her flute. “Do I stand out that much here? I know Londoners have a more … subdued sense of style. Well, that’s not true. Let me correct myself. The wealthy have a very subdued and dull sense of style. Everything is oatmeal or beige! It’s a travesty. As least the youth here have the decency to have fun with fashion and color.”
Constance sat opposite her mother atop another chaise lounge, smiling and sipping her own glass elegantly. Like her mother, she had also donned a sweater, but hers was a baggy cable-knit vintage in shade of soft, bunny-nose pink. Her leather mini was a shade of espresso-brown, and her boots as tall as the ones equestrians wore.
Both women wore their hair down and long, so if flowed over their shoulders. In habitual tandem, both shook glossy waterfalls of hair back over their shoulders.
“Let me guess,” the auburn-haired woman posed, “You were wearing your favorite Russian sable coat? The umber one, with the cape?”
“Well, of course! The London weather is positively perfect for it.”
“Well, the doorman to Ritz-Carlton has probably seen some exquisite attire in his day,” Constance started gently, “ … But perhaps a $55,000 coat was new even to him.”
Theresea hummed, flicking her gaze into the middle distance over her daughter’s shoulder for a moment. “It is a statement piece, I suppose. I hadn’t considered.”
Constance smiled, her slender brows arcing in sympathy. “Some people here can be more reserved, like you said.”
“Hm. Noted.”
They both sipped their champagne, pinkies lofted in similar fashion. Even their manicures matched. They’d each chosen a shade of dark, bloody cranberry. That, also, had been a coincidence, but it was one that surprised neither of them.
Orin might have kept them apart physically, but they were still mother and daughter. Some things could not be altered so swiftly or easily.
“My dear, I’ve been meaning to tell you, this cottage is positively charming,” Theresea said, changing the subject. After all, she hadn’t traveled all the way London just to complain about stares from hotel doormen. “It’s elegant, but still welcoming.”
“Really?” Constance inquired, knowing her mother would never deliver a compliment in the first place if she wasn’t serious. Yet, the kind words always pleased her to hear.
“Absolutely. All the paintings, and the candles, and that delightful garden set you have! I never would have thought to choose mushroom furniture for a garden getaway, but it is a positively charming choice.”
“Why, thank you!” Constance smiled. “I can’t take all the credit. All the girls and I have chipped in to make it our own little haven, inside and out.”
“Well, you’ve all done a wonderful job making this cottage feel like a real home,” she said. “There’s so much more personality in one room of this cottage than there was in the townhouse. Then again, you did none of the decorating there, I’m sure.”
Foul memories prickled dangerously at the edge of her thoughts, their sharp points tickling the back of her eyes. Squinting against the discomfort, Constance took another long drink, stopping herself just short of emptying the entire glass. Even in front of her mother, that would be terribly inappropriate, she felt.
“Mama, I—”
“No,” she said, throwing up a hand, “That cretin has stolen way too much time. We’re not giving him a moment more. The past is in the past, my dear.”
Theresea leaned across the threshold to reach for her daughter’s hand. On contact, she issued a consoling squeeze. Whether the gesture was more for Constance or her was unclear, but she appreciated the tenderness all the same.
She then sighed, relief mingling with sadness in her. “I’m still so sorry for running away. For worrying you.”
“You did what you had to do,” Theresea said softly, though hurt reverberated in her voice. “You had to get away and lay low for a while. You were worried for me, and knew he was watching for any signs of activity on your accounts and phone. I understand that, but …”
“But?”
“My heart did ache, my beloved girl. A piece of it was missing with you gone. I was petrified he’d hidden you away, or worse.”
“I’m sorry,” she said, head dropping again. “I-It will never happen again.”
Theresea leaned back in her chair and smiled. “I should hope not, for both our sakes. I lost your father, and nearly lost you.” Twice. “One more blow might end me.”
It was less of an exaggeration and more of a plea, Constance realized.
“I promise. I’m in good company here, thankfully. I think … no, I know the worst has already come to pass.”
“Good.” With the matter dropped in an endeavor to preserve the remaining cheer of the evening, Theresea again switched the topic of discussion. “Well, then, why don’t we—”
All of a sudden, the pitter-patter of footsteps was upon the staircase.
“Hey, Con, can I get your opinion?” a new, warm voice inquired with polite haste. Like the other two women, she also had an American accent, though the slight New York twang the other two possessed was absent.
Bess Sullivan, L&D nurse by day and the highly-coveted club singer Bess Moonrock by night, descended the cottage’s stairs with a light jog. While she was dressed in a lavender dress slip, she held aloft two lovely dresses. Her inky curls were partially contained with a floral headscarf, and she already bore an subtle eyeshadow look that looked as if it could pair with both the dress options.
“Which one do you prefer—oh!”
As she drew to a halt, her gaze arced back and forth between the mother and daughter duo seated in the living room. She shrunk back. “I-I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize—”
“You’re quite fine,” Theresea said with a graceful smile. “Hello, dear. Wonderful to see you again.”
The two had met before, when Theresea had first arrived in London to track down her runaway daughter. While the two were hardly anything beyond cordial acquaintances, the woman had gone on record commending Bess’ demeanor, resilience and – of course – taste in décor. Such praise coming from a posh woman like Theresea was enough to make Bess bounce on her heels and beam with pride. Her own mother had never bestowed such kind words on her, so to hear them from another woman with similar years of life experience? It was bittersweet, but left an addicting aftertaste, she had to admit.
“Likewise,” Bess replied with a smile. "It's wonderful to see you."
Still slightly startled, Connie sat her glass down and pivoted her body to face her friend over the tall back of the sofa. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize you were home! Have you been upstairs the whole time? It’s been quiet.”
Usually when Bess was in her room, the sound of her lovely singing (or at least some kind of music) could be heard thrumming lightly from the other side of the walnut bedroom door. Sometimes she’d even dance along to it, which usually inspired the other girl to race upstairs and join in.
“I have,” Bess admitted with a guilty laugh, “I got back earlier and went right up to my room. Sorry. I should have popped my head out at some point.”
“Is everything okay?”
As this, Bess sank her teeth into her bottom lip and glanced away. “Actually, yes. It really is.”
Connie studied her friend’s catlike grin for only a moment before she gasped. “Oh! Wait, do you have another date tonight?”
Bess nodded excitedly, her torso swaying slightly. “Maybe.”
“You do!” Connie clapped in excitement before turning to her mother, hand flying to her shoulder. “Oh, Bess has been seeing this gentleman, and he’s actually so sweet!”
“Actually?” Theresea inquired with a lifted brow, glancing between the two.
“He’s a coworker from the hospital,” Bess said. “He works in the NICU, which is how we met. We’ve actually known each other for about six months. The NICU works a lot with L&D, so we found ourselves exchanging files a lot. You know, I’d hand the babies over to him and his crew that needed the extra support, then he’d fill me in on the results. We bonded over the good days, and helped each other through the really bad ones. One day, he asked me out for a bite to eat. We … sort of hit it off. We’ve been on a couple dates since.”
“A couple, you say? What date is tonight?” the more senior woman inquired.
“Tonight is our third date.”
"My, how exciting!"
Bess beamed at that. Three dates, she thought. Three dates, and he was still a sweet and wonderful gentleman. That spark of romantic hope that had started to dwindle after one too many first-date busts was rekindled.
Theresea, even not knowing the young woman well, could see her exuberance plainly. It was contagious, as she found herself mirroring a smile in return.
“He sounds like a dream.”
“He has been. So far.”
Connie gesticulated to the dresses hanging in Bess arms, her index finger bobbing between the two. “Let me guess … you’ve been upstairs trying to choose an outfit?”
With a guilty sigh that could have bruised with the force at which it was exhaled, Bess held the two options aloft. “Yeah. We’re going to dinner tonight. To that new bistro, Ignite. It’s a really nice place, Con. I want to, um, look like I belong there.”
Connie blinked in return, not following. “But you do belong there.”
“You know what I mean,” she mumbled. “Fancy. I want to look fancy. Elegant. Subtle. But all my normal clothes aren’t sleek enough, and all my other outfits for my concerts are … too much for a dinner date.”
Theresea hummed at the choice of words, but stayed silent. The woman was listening; absorbing the words and situation bit by bit.
Connie, meanwhile, examined the options Bess had provided in earnest. One was a sage-green maxi dress, and the other was a mauve mini-dress. Both were fine, she noted neutrally. Perfectly lovely.
“You don’t like either,” Bess observed. It wasn’t a question.
Connie, who always strove for honesty, sighed reluctantly. “They’re both okay, but … I think you would look lovelier in something else for an occasion like tonight. Sage green and mauve feel more like garden party dresses, you know?”
Bess hummed vaguely.
At this point, Theresea interjected.
“Do you have anything in navy, dear?”
The raven-haired woman was jolted from her forlorn expression. “In … navy? Well, yeah. A couple things.”
“Any dresses?”
“A few.”
“Navy is a secret weapon of a color,” the woman said, her tone almost conspiratorial as she spoke. “Black can be too harsh and come off as quite funerary. Navy is still dark, seductive, and flattering, but still a lovely shade of blue. It looks good with both gold and silver, and it hides wine and sauce stains.”
“Oh,” Bess said. “Really?”
Theresea nodded. “Plus, with your creamy complexion, rosy lips, and dark hair? You’d look like a woman lifted from the cover of a wonderfully salacious romance novel. Especially in navy velvet.”
“Oh, Bess, you have one of those!” Connie recalled with excitement. “Right? From that one thrift store we went to off Marchmont Street.”
After a moment, recognition lit up her freckled features. “Oh, yes! Huh. I, um … I completely forgot I had that.”
“Really?” Connie asked.
The thrifting trip had been made after a few mimosas had been consumed at an “American style” brunch place in Soho. Full of champagne and confidence, she’d purchased the dress as the solution for the next time she needed a sultry date-night look. Connie had cheered her on with drunken exuberance. Bess had even texted Ebenezar “Wolf” Scrooge to get his reaction (“You’re a guy, what do you think?”). His response had also been quite favorable (“For a date, I assume. Very lovely. But you look good in most things.”)
Alas, upon trying it on the next day with a clearer head, she found the décolleté window was simply too revealing for her to be comfortable with. Nor did she like how it framed her shoulders. In her mind, they looked too broad.
“You seem hesitant,” Theresea remarked, the present-day question yanking her from her memories with ferocity that rivaled a bucket of ice water.
“I don’t know,” she hesitantly started, then glanced to the woman hopefully. Suddenly, an idea welled up within her. “Say, um. Just a thought. Theresea, um, would you …”
Her confidence was squashed by nerves the second her blue eyes met Theresea’s deep brown ones.
“Wait, never mind,” Bess parried quickly, “I’m sorry for interrupting.”
Theresea sat back slightly, recrossing her legs as she did so. “Oh. Are you certain?”
No.
“…Con, can I borrow you a second?”
Bess pivoted sharply and fluttered away up the cottage’s small staircase, not pausing to see if her soul-sister was following after her. Of course, when she turned around at the crest of the stairs, Connie was right behind her. Her expression was … odd. Concerned, but also expectant? Bess couldn’t quite put a pin in it.
“Is everything alright?” the redhead still inquired with a gentle tilt of her head. “I must say, you left us on a cliffhanger back there, dear.”
‘Dear.’ She even talks like her mom. I never noticed.
With an awkward shuffle, Bess looked to her best friend. “I, um…”
A pause.
“I was wondering, and you can say no, of course! But … I…”
“Bess, would you like to ask Mama to help you plan your outfit tonight?”
Struck with immediate remorse after hearing the question verbalized back to her, she peered at Connie through pain-squinted eyes. “I’m a terrible person for wanting to ask that, aren’t I?”
“Well, technically, you didn’t ask,” Connie reminded her cheekily. “I just guessed you were going to ask.”
“Con. Please.”
She laughed softly. “Sorry, sorry. Bess, I wouldn’t have posed it if I felt uncomfortable. You should ask her. I think it's a fabulous idea."
“I couldn’t do that.”
“Oh, come on!" she urged with a smile, "Mama has an impeccable sense of style, and I know she’d love to help. She always loves to lend a helping hand with anything related to clothes or fashion.”
Still adamant, Bess shook her head. “I can’t. I already interrupted you two in the middle of catching up. It would be unfair for me to demand even more of her time. She’s your mother, and she’s here to see you! I-I’m sure she doesn’t have infinite time before she has to go back to New York and work, or … something. Besides, you two just got the opportunity to reunite after two decades apart!”
Connie’s brow softened. “Yes. That is true.”
“Right,” she parroted, “So how in the world could I possibly ask her to give me any of that precious time? That’s not fair to her.”
Her midnight-blue eyes peeked out from behind dark lashes to stare at her friend. The two women were almost the same height, so one glimpse was all it took to meet each other’s gaze in earnest.
“It’s not fair to you,” Bess added, then glanced away in shame. “I’m sorry I even thought to ask. It’s just …”
It’s just that I’ll never know what it’s like to have a role model like that.
As Bess let out a shaky sigh, Connie’s hand reached out to cup her friend’s shoulder.
“Bess, unless you’re secretly plotting to drive a wedge between me and my Mama for decades and stop us from communicating, I don’t see any issue,” she said.
An extreme example, but sadly, an applicable one.
“Besides,” she added quickly, before the mood became too dour, “She wants to get to know you more. This would be a perfect opportunity for you two to bond!”
“She wants to get to know me?” Bess asked. “W-Why?”
“She admires you.”
“…Your millionaire, philanthropist mother admires me?”
Something akin to discouragement flickered in her cornflower eyes. “You don’t believe me?”
“No, I do, because you wouldn’t lie to me,” Bess said quickly, “So, I think you’re telling the truth. Which is the problem. I’m … immensely confused. Why would your mother admire me at all? We’re from completely different walks of life.”
Then again, she thought, the same could technically be said of her and Connie. They were from two different worlds, but still shared so much. More than she’d ever shared with another soul in her life.
“Well …” Constance began slowly, her face coloring softly, “I’m not surprised. For her, meeting you is like meeting a celebrity. I talk about you all the time. Gal and Addie too, of course, but I bring you up quite often to her. They’re very dear friends, but you’re like a sister to me.”
The sentence lured a humble blush from the older woman, and she glanced down at the pointed tips of her shoes.
“So?” Constance asked, peeking up at her.
To say she wasn’t flattered and incredibly happy to hear such words from her friend would have been a lie. Yet, her own lingering memories of the insults and biting words her own mother had thrown at her roared back. Just like that, the wave of enthusiasm froze within her before it could crest.
“I…”
“Why don’t I ask her?” Constance offered in turn.
“What? No, Connie—”
The objection fell on deaf ears, and Bess watched in dread as her friend shimmied her way back down the stars gently.
A premature blush of embarrassment bloomed on the woman’s freckled cheeks. Sighing in begrudging acquiescence, she sulked into her bedroom and shut the door. The last thing she wanted to hear was Theresea’s tone of confusion and, even worse, rejection.
She felt so childish, and she hated it. This woman was essentially a stranger to her, Bess realized. Her approval shouldn’t have meant so much, but just the small moment of Theresea sharing fashion advice with her had unlocked some keen desire in her. A longing for an experience she’d never been allowed to have before – attentiveness and respect from a motherly figure.
“So … navy,” Bess muttered to herself, remembering Theresea’s advice. She had to focus. “I’m sure I have something usable.”
After depositing the two rejected dresses on her quilted bedspread, she turned back to the chamber closet and began to rifle through her options. Over the screech of the sliding hangers, she missed the sound of the bedroom door creaking open. Then, a polite knock with a “shave and a haircut” cadence startled her out of her rhythm.
Before she even had the chance to turn around, a perfumed shadow slipped behind her. An elegant arm reached past her and plucked an inconspicuous garment from the rack.
“W-Wha—”
“Now, darling, time is of the essence,” Theresea reminded her, lips curving into a soft smile before she refocused on the clothing options before her. “You must stun tonight, dear. Don’t worry, you’re a beautiful young woman. With a few select pieces, you’ll have him wrapped around your little finger. Speaking of that, may I see your jewelry collection too? No outfit is complete without accessories.”
“But—”
“Do you not have any jewelry? I have a beautiful opal ring I can loan you.”
“N-No! No. Um, one moment.”
What followed was a veritable whirlwind of activity. Theresea expertly went through her wardrobe, even the items long-forgotten behind racks of shoes and purses, and plucked out a selection of items Bess would have never chosen for herself. First, a sheer shirt, interwoven with a silver sheen. Then a corded belt from one of her older Moonrock ensembles.
And, of course, that velvet navy dress. Theresea had fished it out of a waste bag labeled ‘Donate’ without hesitation, and Bess didn’t dare utter a word of disagreement.
Yet, even as she prompted her to try on clothes she hadn’t slipped into for months, that lingering insecurity she was used to feeling was nowhere to be found. Theresea didn’t chastise her form, groan if something didn’t work, or pinch her in reprimand. Instead, each suggestion was accompanied by sincere guidance, and delivered with a musical grace that could put some queens to shame.
First, she guided her into the sheer shirt. “For a little extra coverage up top. The silver thread will look wet against your glowing complexion, but the fabric will still provide some coverage while showing off your silhouette. Honestly, darling, your cap shoulders are divine! I know models that would kill for this bone structure."
Then, the navy dress. It was strapless, and even without support, settled perfectly at her bosom and hips. When layered with the shirt, the two pieces almost looked like they were sewn together. The shimmer of the velvet even matched the silvery sheen of the top, as if a constant beam of moonlight was being cast upon her from some nebulous ether.
Just when Bess found her eyes lingering at the dips in her hips, Theresea draped the silver, corded belt around her, as if she was bestowing a crown upon a princess. “Hips dips, just like my daughter. You two really are sisters.”
Before letting Bess see her reflection, she led her to her bedroom’s vanity. There, she picked up a small pan of dark purple eyeshadow and an angled brush. “Look up, dear.”
She obeyed, and with a touch as light as the flap of a bird’s wing, Theresea patted eyeshadow along Bess’ lower lash line. First the right eye, then the left.
“This is a trick Marilyn Monroe came up with,” she told her with a smile. “It creates the illusion of the top lashes casting a more intense shadow on the lower lash line, which makes them look fuller as a result. Isn’t that clever? You already have such beautiful eyes, so we just need to add the lightest bit.”
After that, Theresea retrieved a pair of slingback heels from the shoe rack and encouraged Bess to step into them. As she did so, she felt the woman gently pull the scarf from her hair and give her curls a shake. Then, she twirled a few of the larger ones between her dexterous fingers, twisting them back artfully into their proper coils. “You must show off these gorgeous curls, love. Hair like yours is like witchcraft on men.”
So much praise. Such doting words, and all delivered with such poetic reverence. At points, Bess was town between beaming and tearing up. It threatened to become too much.
Finally, after one last sweep of the eyes, Theresea spun Bess around so she could examine her reflection.
And … oh.
The woman staring back at her from the antique silverback mirror… was gorgeous. A goddess of a woman, with dark eyes and cascading tendrils of curls. Her body was beautifully accentuated by the cloying velvet, and adorned in silvery touches that made her look as if threads of magic had been sewn into the fibers of every piece.
“Well?” Theresea prompted with a light laugh. “How do you feel? Confident? Lovely? Or would you prefer to try something else?”
After everything, she still checked in on her to make sure she felt comfortable.
“I love it,” Bess whispered, blinking back an impending shine in her eyes. “I-I…never would have though to put these items together."
"The power of fresh eyes, love. Never underestimate it."
"I ...”
She didn’t rush her. Instead, she stared at their side-by-side reflections patiently, hands clasped elegantly before her. “You’re fine, dear. Go on.”
“I … I feel beautiful.”
It was a struggle to not wince. In her mind, Bess heard echoes of Bea’s voice, strident and harsh as she beat her down for vocalizing such a sentiment. Calling herself beautiful in front of Bea would have earned her a guffaw and verbal lashing, or worse.
Seeing her impending tears, Theresea reached out and laid a comforting hand on the woman’s shoulder. “You are beautiful, my dear.”
My dear.
It should have been mortifying to shed tears in front of a stranger. Yet, even as they dripped down her cheeks and gentle sobs of joy rose in her throat, Bess felt no urge to stop. No sense of impending panic.
She only felt two comforting arms drape themselves across her waist. The touch was comfortable and unhurried. Firm, but eternally gentle.
A mother’s embrace.
“T-Thank you…”
Even through breathless words and pearl-sized tears, Theresea held her close, until the woman was gathered tightly over her heart.
A heart that had more than enough room to love and cherish two daughters.
“You are most welcome.”

Link Cable (Pt. 2) - Steven Stone x Reader
thanks you so much to the anon who requested this! it's so juicy, i had to write it also why do i always write fics when i have an assignment due?
this of course, a sequel to Link Cable, so if you haven't read it yet, here's your chance! i think i should write a sequel to the leon version of that fic shameless plug to make it fair, yeah?
features: pregnancy, gn! reader, reader and leon are married, steven is angsty and full of regret. approx 800 words.
proofreading? i hardly know her!
He lets out a great sigh as he flops down on his plush seat. His left shoulder aches, spine sore and knees dull , a large sack of gems and stones nestled in the seat beside him. He groans a little as he rubs his injured shoulder.
He's getting too old for this.
No, that’s not true, he’s only just turned thirty-five. He just needs to take it easier from now on, not push himself as hard in the mine, not spend nearly a whole day there like he did today.
A chine rings out from the speaker. “The Hulbury-Wyndon express train will be departing the station shortly. Please take your assigned seats.”
Ah, it won’t be too bad. He’ll head back to the Rose of the Rondelands and avail of their spa, relax in their tepidarium and maybe get a massage. He’ll dine alone in their restaurant, with a glass or two of vintage whiskey, and turn in for an early night in his suite.
He leans back in his seat, and peruses the provided menu. Maybe he’ll order a cup of tea, and a small cake, a treat, for himself.
The sound of footsteps graces his ears. Looks like he won’t be the only passenger in the first class carriage. He doesn’t pay that any mind though, not even glancing away from the menu as they get situated a few seats behind him.
“Pleasure to have you on board Champion,” a feminine voice speaks aloud, no doubt the attendant for the first class passengers.
Steven blushes and shakes his head, putting the menu down. “Oh, there’s no need to call me-”
“Haha, I haven’t been Champion in years,” the friendly, bravado-rich voice of Galar’s previous champion rings out, followed by a soft, almost sheepish, chuckle.
Steven face falls.
Leon’s here.
He doesn’t dislike the man, no that’s not it, the mere mention of him just leaves a sour taste in his mouth and a panging in his chest. It’s envy, not malice.
After all, Leon has what he wants most… and he did so not through deceit or spite, he was just himself, a good man, a better man than he could ever be.
Steven sighs, he only has himself to blame.
“Would you like a hand with your luggage?” he hears the attend ask the other former champion.
Wait, if Leon’s here, does that mean…?
“Hehe, Lee’s got that covered,” your twinkling voice chines in, light and joyful. His heart skips a beat at the sound, even now, years since you last spoke, even longer since you were in love.
Despite himself, he glances between the seats, eager to get a glimpse of you.
There’s Leon, tall and broad, mane of crazy purple hair thicker and fuller than ever, an easy smile on his face as he effortlessly picks up a heavy looking suitcase and props it in the overhead rack. Like him, he’s older, looking more like a man now, but sill retaining that boyish charm. He must be about thirty.
And then, he spies you.
Shorter than Leon of course, and glowing more than ever, giddy smile on your lips, eyes wearing this almost cosy expression. You look good, not much different from when you last spoke. Your haircut is different sure, your style more casual, especially in those Shinotic-patterned overalls, but it’s unmistakably you.
His gaze drifts lower.
Steven’s heart aches at the sight, years of buried bittersweet feelings clawing out of the grave within his heart. Your stomach, ever-so-lovingly cradled by your hand, is swollen. Your bump’s not big, but it’s obvious.
You’re pregnant.
You’re pregnant with Leon’s child.
In a moment of weakness, awash in all his painful memories and mistakes, his mind runs down a path forbidden to him, another universe, where it would’ve been him.
He’d have been the one who put that child in you.
He’d be your husband. He’d be the one to put a hand so fondly on your tummy, to help you into your seat, to indulge your strange cravings.
And he’d be there when your baby was born. He’d hold them so carefully, this perfect little mix of the two of you.
But they’re not going to be a mix of the two of you, are they? No, they’re gonna be a mix of you and Leon.
He has to stop himself from letting out a pained sigh. He presses his head against the seat, gazing upwards at the ceiling, his expression desolate.
He can’t change the past, he knows that. He can’t change the fact he neglected you and you found someone so much better, and yet, even now, what he would give to be in Leon’s position.
A part of him thinks to stand up, say something, congratulate you on this blessing, pat Leon on the shoulder, give this whole (disingenuous) show of support, but he’s not enough of a man to do that, to face you, with everything you ever wanted, everything you ever deserved.
So instead, he sits, and gazes out the window as the train rolls out of the station, pretending that, just down the aisle, someone else is not living the life he wants so desperately. That he should have lived, had he not been so selfish.

Creating the Perfect TV Wall: Best TV Units and Decor Ideas
Your TV wall can be more than just a functional area—it can be a stylish centerpiece of your living space. With the right TV unit, furniture, and decor, you can transform a plain wall into a focal point that reflects your style and enhances your home's aesthetic. Here’s how to achieve the perfect TV wall.
Choosing the Right TV Unit
The TV unit is the cornerstone of your entertainment setup. Whether you’re looking for a wall-mounted TV unit, a TV stand, or a TV table stand, your choice should balance functionality and style.
Wall-Mounted TV Units: Ideal for saving floor space and creating a modern, streamlined look. These wall-mounted TV units often come with additional storage compartments for a clean and clutter-free appearance.
TV Stands: TV Stand is a versatile option for those who like to rearrange their furniture frequently. TV stands are available in various designs, from minimalist to vintage-inspired.
TV Table Stands: Compact and perfect for smaller spaces, these TV table stands often feature open shelving or drawers for organizing accessories like remote controls, gaming consoles, or streaming devices.
Styling Your TV Furniture
Your TV unit furniture can blend seamlessly with your decor or stand out as an accent piece. Here are some ideas:
Material and Finish: Opt for materials that complement your room’s design. Wooden finishes offer a timeless and warm appeal, while metal or glass units lend a sleek, modern touch.
Color Coordination: Choose colors that harmonize with your wall paint or create a bold contrast. Neutral tones like white, beige, or black are classic choices.
Lighting Enhancements: Integrated LED lights in your TV unit add a sophisticated glow, perfect for evening movie sessions.
Decor Ideas for the TV Wall
To make your TV wall a visual delight, consider incorporating these decor elements:
Floating Shelves: Add floating shelves around the wall mounted TV unit to display books, plants, or decorative items. They provide extra storage and enhance the visual appeal.
Wall Art: Frame the TV with art pieces or photographs to add personality. Ensure the colors and styles don’t compete with the TV for attention.
Accent Walls: Create an accent wall with textured paint, wallpaper, or wooden panels to make the TV unit pop.
Greenery: Place indoor plants on or near the TV furniture to introduce freshness and balance the tech-heavy vibe.
Practical Tips for Setting Up Your TV Wall
Ergonomic Placement: Position the TV at eye level for a comfortable viewing experience. For wall-mounted units, ensure the center of the screen is at eye level when seated.
Cable Management: Use cable organizers or a concealed back panel to keep cords tidy and hidden.
Proportions Matter: Select a TV furniture that’s proportionate to your TV size and wall space. An oversized unit can overwhelm the room, while a too-small unit may look disproportionate.
Popular TV Unit Styles to Explore

You want it to be cozy, stylish, and practical. If you love the clean, timeless style of mid-century modern furniture, Mid in Mod has you covered. Let’s look at some furniture pieces that can help you create the living room you’ve always wanted.
Start with a Bold Sofa
The sofa is the focal point of any living room. Choosing the right one sets the stage for the entire space. The Kano Large in Teal Velvet is a great option for a mid-century modern look.
This teal sofa isn’t just about color—it’s a statement piece. Its clean lines and tailored design make it timeless, while the velvet fabric adds a touch of luxury. Plus, it’s spacious and comfortable, perfect for relaxing or entertaining guests.
Tip: Pair this vibrant sofa with neutral walls and simple decorations to let its color pop.
Add a Coffee Table That Completes the Look
A coffee table ties the room together and is essential for any living room. The Noak Coffee Table is an excellent choice for mid-century modern fans.
With its sleek shape and natural wood tones, the Noak Coffee Table blends seamlessly into any setup. It also has a lower shelf for magazines or remotes, keeping the top clutter-free. Its compact size makes it a good fit for apartments or larger homes.
Bring Comfort with Accent Chairs
While the sofa takes center stage, accent chairs provide the support that makes your space complete. The Casper Lounge Chair is a stunning example of mid-century modern style.
The gold shade adds warmth and depth, pairing beautifully with the teal sofa. This chair isn’t just stylish—it’s comfortable too. Whether you’re reading or chatting with friends, it’s a cozy addition to any room.
Its retro-inspired design, with a curved backrest and slim legs, gives the chair a light and airy feel. It’s eye-catching but doesn’t overwhelm the space.
Choose a Practical and Stylish TV Stand
Your TV stand might not seem like a priority, but it has a big impact on the room’s overall look. The Benjamin Solid Wood TV Stand is a great mix of style and function.
Made from solid wood, it has a natural finish that complements mid-century modern decor. Its minimalist design lets your other furniture take the spotlight while offering plenty of storage for devices, cables, and more.
Accessorize Thoughtfully
After picking your main furniture pieces, it’s time to focus on the details. Mid-century modern decor thrives on simplicity, so stick to a few well-chosen accents.
Rugs: Geometric or abstract-patterned rugs add texture and connect the furniture. Go for earthy tones or bold colors that match your style.
Lighting: Sculptural lamps with metallic finishes or wooden bases create a cozy feel and double as decorative items.
Art and Decor: Abstract art, vintage-inspired prints, or simple vases and sculptures can add personality to your room.
Balance Bold and Neutral Tones
Mid-century modern design is about balancing bold and neutral colors. With the Kano Sofa in teal and the Casper Lounge Chair in burnt orange, you already have a vibrant start. Complement these colors with earthy tones like walnut brown, olive green, or mustard yellow.
To keep things balanced, choose neutral shades like white, beige, or light gray for walls and larger decor pieces. These calmer colors create a background that allows your furniture to shine.

Creative Ways to Refurbish & Customise Secondhand Office Furniture in Perth
Choosing secondhand office furniture is an affordable and eco-conscious choice for Perth businesses. With a touch of ingenuity, these pieces can be refurbished and personalised to suit your workspace’s style and practical needs. This guide highlights innovative approaches to revitalising secondhand office furniture, ensuring it meets your aesthetic and functional requirements.
Transform with a Fresh Coat of Paint
Repainting is a simple yet impactful way to modernise secondhand office furniture. Use high-quality paint designed for materials like wood, metal, or plastic. Neutral colours create a professional look, while bold hues can reflect your brand’s personality. Patterns or stencilled designs can add a unique flair. Eco Tip: Opt for environmentally friendly paints to align with Perth’s sustainability values.
Upgrade Upholstery on Chairs & Sofas
Worn-out chairs and sofas can be given a new lease on life with reupholstering. Durable and stylish fabrics can refresh their appearance while complementing your office’s theme. Perth-based upholstery services can provide professional results. Bonus Idea: Add custom embroidery or branding to the upholstery for a professional touch.
Modernise with New Hardware
Replacing hardware like drawer handles or cabinet knobs can instantly update the look of furniture. Sleek, contemporary designs or metallic finishes work particularly well. Perth’s home improvement stores offer a wide range of affordable options. Pro Tip: Blend vintage and modern styles for a distinctive aesthetic.
Customise with Vinyl Wraps
Vinyl wraps are a flexible and budget-friendly way to personalise furniture. Available in various finishes, from woodgrain to metallic, they can transform desks, tables, and cabinets with ease.
Add Functional Enhancements
Integrate practical upgrades to make secondhand furniture more suited to modern workspaces:
Cable Management: Install grommets or adhesive cable clips to organise wires.
Height-Adjustable Features: Convert desks into standing workstations with risers.
Magnetic Boards: Attach boards to cabinets or desks for additional utility.
Create Collaborative Areas
Large secondhand tables can be refinished and repurposed into collaborative zones. Pair them with comfortable seating and add a chalkboard-painted section to encourage brainstorming, appealing to Perth’s dynamic start-up culture.
Personalise with Decals & Stickers
Non-permanent vinyl decals and stickers are a creative way to customise furniture. Consider using motivational quotes, your company’s logo, or industry-specific designs to make the workspace more engaging.
Repurpose with Creativity
Think beyond traditional uses for furniture:
Convert old filing cabinets into planters for office greenery.
Transform wooden desks into modern reception counters.
Add wheels to shelving units for portable storage solutions.
Integrate Lighting
Add LED strips under shelves or around desks for ambient lighting. This not only enhances the workspace’s aesthetic but also improves functionality.
Restore with Polishing & Refinishing
Restore wooden furniture by polishing or refinishing its surfaces. This simple step can revitalise the original beauty of the material. Perth businesses can access local specialists or explore DIY techniques for cost-effective solutions.
Conclusion
Revitalising secondhand office furniture in Perth is a smart way to create a functional and visually appealing workspace while saving money and supporting sustainability. From repainting and reupholstering to incorporating functional upgrades, these ideas allow you to tailor furniture to your business needs. Embracing secondhand furniture is a sustainable, stylish, and practical choice for Perth companies.

Customization Options for TV Media Walls
When it comes to designing TV media walls, customization is key. The ability to tailor the design to fit your specific needs and preferences makes these installations a popular choice among homeowners. Whether you have a large or small space, TV media walls can be designed to fit seamlessly into your home. One of the primary considerations when customizing TV media walls is the storage options. Built-in shelves, cabinets, and drawers can be integrated to store your media devices, remote controls, and even DVDs. These features not only keep your entertainment area organized but also ensure that everything you need is within easy reach. Another important aspect of customization is the aesthetic appeal. You can choose from a wide range of materials, colors, and finishes to create a media wall that matches your style. For example, a sleek black wall with glass shelves might suit a modern home, while a wooden TV media wall with rustic finishes might complement a more traditional space. Additionally, you can incorporate LED lighting to highlight certain features and create a cozy atmosphere. Overall, TV media walls offer endless possibilities for personalization, making them a standout feature in any living room.
Modern Design Trends for TV Media Walls
TV media walls are constantly evolving with new design trends that combine both aesthetics and functionality. From minimalist designs featuring clean lines and neutral colors to more elaborate walls with bold textures and contrasting materials, tv media walls can be customized to match any modern décor. The latest trends often incorporate open shelving, floating cabinets, and sleek finishes like matte black or glossy white, making tv media walls a versatile option for contemporary homes.
Rustic TV Media Walls for a Cozy Atmosphere
For those who prefer a more rustic or traditional aesthetic, tv media walls can be designed using natural materials like reclaimed wood, stone, or brick. These elements create a warm, inviting atmosphere while still providing a modern entertainment solution. Rustic tv media walls can be paired with industrial-style lighting or vintage accessories to complete the look. This style is perfect for homeowners who want a media wall that feels cozy and homey, yet sophisticated.
Budget-Friendly TV Media Walls
Creating tv media walls doesn’t have to break the bank. With affordable materials and DIY options, homeowners can achieve a stylish and functional media wall on a budget. Simple designs with floating shelves or pre-made cabinetry can be installed with minimal effort, offering the same organizational benefits as more expensive options. By focusing on essential elements, you can design budget-friendly tv media walls that are both attractive and practical.
Customization Ideas for TV Media Walls
The beauty of tv media walls lies in their customization potential. You can tailor the wall to fit your exact needs, whether that involves adding extra storage, choosing a unique color palette, or incorporating decorative elements like artwork or books. TV media walls can be as simple or as elaborate as you want, offering a wide range of design possibilities. This makes them a popular choice for homeowners looking to create a one-of-a-kind entertainment space.
TV Media Walls: A Solution for Cord Management
One of the primary concerns with modern entertainment setups is managing the numerous cords and cables that come with various devices. TV media walls offer a sleek solution to this problem. With built-in cable management systems, these walls help keep wires hidden, resulting in a clean and organized appearance. By concealing cords behind the wall or within custom compartments, tv media walls ensure that your living space remains clutter-free.
TV Media Walls with Built-In Sound Systems
TV media walls can be designed to house not only your television but also a built-in sound system. Whether you prefer a surround sound setup or integrated speakers, tv media walls can provide a seamless way to incorporate high-quality audio into your home theater experience. This eliminates the need for external speakers and wires, creating a more streamlined and professional look for your entertainment area.
TV Media Walls for Home Offices
TV media walls aren’t limited to living rooms and entertainment spaces—they can also be an excellent addition to home offices. By creating a custom wall that houses a TV, computer, and other office equipment, you can design a multifunctional workspace that serves both professional and recreational purposes. TV media walls in home offices offer the same organizational and design benefits, allowing you to maintain a clutter-free, stylish environment.
Conclusion
TV media walls have become a versatile solution for homeowners seeking to elevate their living spaces. With endless design possibilities, these walls cater to a variety of styles and needs, whether it’s maximizing storage, improving cord management, or incorporating modern technology. From small spaces to open-concept homes, tv media walls can transform any room into a functional and aesthetically pleasing entertainment hub. Their ability to blend technology with design makes them an excellent choice for creating a cohesive and organized space that reflects your personal style.

3 Jean Styles to Pair with Autumn Fashion Trends
Fall and fashion go together like warm matcha lattes and slow, rainy mornings. The changing weather gives us the perfect excuse to update our closets—just in time to make room for those fashion week and back-to-school season trends—and that golden fall sunlight makes every photo look like a glossy editorial fashion spread.
While fall trends might vary slightly from year to year, one beloved item is always in vogue for fall: denim. Are you ready to elevate your fall fits with a touch of denim? Here’s how to style three of this year’s fall trends with the perfect jeans.
Stay Cozy—Get Crafty
Cable knit sweaters, cashmere cardigans, loose-knit shawls: if you’ve fallen head over heels for knitwear, you’re in good company. As more and more fashion girlies and influencers take up crocheting as a hobby and creative outlet, we can expect to see a major knitwear resurgence this fall.
Whether you’re attempting to DIY your next fall cardigan or recently found your dream chunky sweater at a vintage flea market, the right jeans are key to styling this cozy fall trend. For a visually balanced outfit, contrast your cozy sweater with rigid denim. Opt for light wash, wide-leg rigid jeans to give your outfit a relaxed vibe, or elevate your cozy attire with dark wash rigid jeans. Whichever style of rigid denim you choose, the contrast between soft and structured will add a chic spin to this classic fall trend.
Show Off Those Shoes
As our sandals head south for the winter—or at least migrate to the back of our closets—it’s time to embrace fall footwear trends! Expect slingback heels, kitten mules, and everyday loafers to have a major moment during early autumn, with a shift to heeled booties and slim sneakers as late autumn ushers in wet weather.
For denim that highlights your stylish footwear, opt for flare low rise jeans or wide-leg cropped styles. The dramatic hemline of flares is perfect for elevated shoes, whereas cropped styles are great for showing off stylish flats and sleek sneakers.
Look Lovely in Layers
The perfect outfit is all about balance, from styling pleated trousers with chunky dad sneakers and a baby tee to elevating a crewneck sweatshirt with a tennis skirt and sleek jewelry. The same goes for seasonal trends. Since fall fashion is heavily influenced by finding a way to navigate the changing weather, layers are a fashionable—and necessary—trend.
If you’re a lover of ‘90s fashion, the quiet luxury aesthetic, or East Coast streetwear, you’re in luck. The autumn/winter ‘24 runways were teeming with chic trench coats. From belted camel color coats to buttoned burgundy styles, this sleek outer layer is elegant, practical, and a fall fashion staple. For a casual day-to-day look, balance the structured silhouette of your favorite floor-length coat with skinny jeans. A great-fitting pair of tummy control jeans can add balance to your eye-catching outer layer.
Take your fall fits to the next level with skinny, rigid, wide-leg, and flare styles.
