I'm so glad you asked.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I think John has a collection of lighters that he's accidentally or deliberately stolen from people throughout the years. Nikolai helps add to it after finding out about it and spotting two of his own lighters in there.

Kate keeps sword-themed trinkets but she isn't entirely aware of the fact that she keeps sword-themed trinkets. She has a sword-themed letter opener, bookmark, pin, set of paper clips and a knife that has no real purpose other than to look like a sword, it's barely usable. But she doesn't think she's a trinket person, those are just things she picked up because she likes the way they look. No one will tell her because they don't want to ruin her fun.

Ghost has been given so many silly ghost-themed objects over the years that he has a shelf full of them and then that expands to two other shelves. He starts to get offended when his birthday or Christmas goes by and he doesn't receive any mini ghost-themed items. He has a Ghoaster [coaster] on his desk with his ghost-themed halloween mug on it that he uses to hold pens.

Alex has a thing about mini items. Mini frying pan that came from a kids toy? In the box, mini dice? In the box, a tiny pair of scissors? In the box. He doesn't put them out anywhere, he has has a little wooden box full of mini items that he keeps for his own amusement and he tells Farah that he's leaving it to her in his will.

Rudy likes weapon-themed trinkets, he will just put them about the house and Alejandro is so used to it that he typically doesn't say anything. Slightly chipped ceramic revolver on the shelf next to their plant? Looks good, solid artistry. Switchblade themed hair clips that neither of them have a use for? Clip them to one of the ties that they never use either, they're nice decoration. Small, worn brass shotgun that just appeared one day? Paperweight for takeout menus.

Hobby wise, Graves likes fixing broken watches or clocks that he finds in his free time. He'll give the watches to a Shadow if he sees them without a watch and if not, he'll donate the clock/watch to a thrift store. His only exception was a small vintage clock he found that had been gifted to someone for their years of work at a home that helped kids. The clock was worn, scratched and just not that pretty, the owner of it was likely dead so he kept it for himself. It's the one thing he lets himself be sappy about.

Gaz can crochet, he just doesn't unless he's at his parent's place. His mum daughter him and his siblings when they were young, he was the only one who actually enjoyed it. When he's staying at home, on the nights he can't sleep or can't stay asleep, his mother will find him in the living room and she'll hand him hooks and yarn. They'll sit together crocheting for hours while they catch up on Coronation Street and bitch about what's happening.

Valeria only does so for herself and she rarely wears it outside but she can make jewellery with wire. It gives her something to do with her hands and she's good at it, it's the one thing she has to herself that no on else knows about and she can enjoy it privately.

The girl was sitting on Blaises bed. His mother was kind enough to give them some clothes she no longer wears. Blaise was simply gonna throw all of it away. Luckily the girl is better than that. It has been about 3 hours since that encounter and they were still going through it. Starting out what they can and cannot sell. Most of it they could as Mrs Zabini does not wear things twice. Blaise has been taking pictures of some of the jewellery as it was easier than anything else. Shoes were next on his list.

Fain ‘ hello boys’ misses both of them. That's why they are surprised when the door bursts open and a pile of teenage boys spills in.

“There you are! Blaze mate, please don't hog my girlfriend.” Enzo says first thing in the room. Taking huge steps to the girl and spinning her in a hug. Not even a gagging sound from Theodore can stop him. Blaise just looks up from his phone with raised eyebrows. 

“What the fuck is all this.” Draco chimes in, gesturing to the not-ending pile of clothes on the bed.

“Our next few thousand,” Blaise answers, very aware that they can all of it for way more than they actually need. The boys just nod. Theodore dived in and rumbled through the pile. 

Back to taking pictures neither he nor the girl noticed Theodor and Matthew putting various items on. Giggles from Draco are what caught their attention.  They both snap their heads to them. There stood Matheo, in a vintage Chanel short dress while Theodore was trying to put on Versace platform boots. stopping in their tracks when he noticed them staring at him. Blaise just let out a sigh and went back to take a picture of the jewellery. The girl just stood there, mouth hanging open. Enzo closes it for her. 

Shaking her head to recover. She has regained her composure.

“Boys, are you serious right now?” she asked, struggling to hold back a smile as she looked at Mattheo, who was attempting to adjust the straps of the dress.

Theodore grinned mischievously as he wobbled around in the Versace boots, nearly toppling over.

 “Serious as fashion week, darling,” he quipped, striking a dramatic pose. Draco rolled his eyes but couldn’t hide his amusement. 

“If you lot are done playing dress-up, maybe we could actually help. That’s a lot of stuff, Blaise. Are you really going to sell all of it?” Blaise smirked, still focused on photographing the jewellery. 

“That’s the plan. Mom has expensive taste, and there’s a market for this stuff. Why not make some money off it?”

Enzo, still holding the girl close, nodded approvingly. “Smart move, mate. But don’t overwork her. You’ve got to let her breathe, too.” He gave her a playful squeeze, earning a light shove from her in return.

The girl smiled up at him, appreciating the gesture but still shaking her head. 

“You guys are impossible. But if you’re going to stick around, you might as well make yourselves useful. There’s a lot more to go through.”

Draco, still examining the pile, picked up a sleek black dress and held it up to the light.

 “This one looks expensive. Maybe I should try it on next,” he teased, earning a round of groans from the others.

The room filled with laughter, the tension of sorting through Mrs Zabini’s wardrobe easing as they all fell into a rhythm of playful banter and teamwork. The girl, now back in control of the situation, couldn’t help but feel a bit more at ease with this odd but endearing group of friends.

As the laughter settled, Blaise finally looked up from his phone, satisfied with the progress he'd made with the jewellery. 

"Alright, enough fooling around," he said, though there was a trace of amusement in his tone. "Let’s get serious. The faster we sort this out, the sooner we can get it listed."

Theodore, who had finally managed to wobble out of the platform boots, nodded and tossed the shoes back onto the pile. 

“Fine, fine. But just so you know, if I end up modelling any of this stuff, I’m charging extra.” Draco snorted, folding the black dress over his arm. 

“You wish. I’m pretty sure no one wants to see you in a dress, Theo.” Matheo, still in the Chanel dress, struck another exaggerated pose.

 “Speak for yourself, Draco. I think I could start a trend.”

The girl, rolling her eyes but clearly amused, stepped between them.

 “You're acting like all of this is not going to the bouncy house. We need to organize this stuff by type—dresses, shoes, accessories—and then by brand. Blaise, you keep taking pictures, and we’ll make sure everything’s sorted.”

Enzo, ever the doting boyfriend, grabbed a handful of scarves and started folding them neatly. “You heard the lady. Let’s get to it.”

The group fell into a rhythm after that, the initial chaos giving way to a surprisingly efficient operation. Blaise continued photographing the jewellery, expertly capturing the shine and detail of each piece. Draco and Theodore focused on sorting through the clothes, occasionally tossing an item at Matheo, who was still hamming it up in the Chanel dress. The girl and Enzo worked together on the shoes, organizing them by size and style.

As they worked, conversation flowed easily between them, punctuated by the occasional joke or comment. The girl had found some red bottoms sues and turned to Blaise.

“Can I keep these?” She motions to them. The boy stops for a minute before nodding. They have more than enough. One pair of sues is not gonna make a dent.

“It’s not like Mrs. Zabini will miss any of this. She probably doesn’t even remember half of it.” Enzo metined.

They all shared a chuckle at that, but the girl couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. Despite their playful banter, they were all contributing to something bigger than just making a quick buck. There was a sense of purpose in the room, a shared goal that brought them together. The last time she saw them work together so well was when they all decided to learn Morse Core to cheat on an exam.

A couple of hours later, they finally finished sorting everything. The bed was now neatly organized into sections—clothes, shoes, accessories, and jewellery—all ready to be listed for sale. Blaise put down his phone and stretched, satisfied with their progress.

“Not bad for a day’s work,” he said, glancing around at the others.

“Not bad at all,” the girl agreed, her eyes shining with excitement. “This could actually work.” I can almost feel the plastic of the bouncy house.”

“ Girl that's weird.” Chimes Matteo but lets it go regardless.

The boys agree with her in a way, the weight of what they’d accomplished settling in.

Matheo, who had finally changed out of the dress, grinned. “So, when do we start counting our millions?”

Blaise chuckled. “Soon. Very soon.”

With that, the group began to clean up. Theodore lets out a gasp. The group of teens turn to look at him. There he stood, a bag made out of cow leather in his hand. Horrified expression on his face.

“Maybe don't show this one to Betsy.”

Low Intensity Conflict (John Price x Reader)

John deals with the interloper and pushes boundaries.

John doesn’t come straight to you, as you had assumed he would, but goes directly to your place. He tells you to hang up and call the police as you hear him getting out of his car. The call disconnects before you can reply.

You call the police with shaking hands and give your address to the woman on the other end. You’re walking back when you hear shouting. You’d recognize John’s gravelly voice anywhere and pick up your pace, concerned. When you approach the front door, you can hear thumps and scuffling in between the yelling. The operator on the other end of the line can hear it too apparently, because she asks if an ambulance is needed.

You can hear the panic in your own voice when you say you aren’t sure. Biting your lip, you debate entering to see what’s going on. The woman on the other end of the phone call urges you to remain in a safe place, which you are prepared to do until you hear John calling for you. 

“Here, I’m here.” You call back, your voice wavering. 

“Good girl, come to me. Upstairs.” 

John’s confident voice pulls you into the apartment, the woman waiting on the phone line forgotten. There’s evidence of a struggle the deeper you move into the apartment, pictures knocked askew and items knocked off tables and shelves. You timidly climb the stairs, unsure what you’ll find. 

What you’re confronted with when you enter your bedroom is a stranger, forced to kneel on your rug with his ankles and hands zip-tied together in improvised handcuffs. He’s glaring at you from behind a cut and swelling eye with so much malice you freeze at the threshold, unwilling to come any closer. John is behind him, holding his bound wrists behind his back, forcing his shoulders up at an uncomfortable angle. 

“Bring me your phone.” John’s radiating calm, holding a hand out for you. “It’s alright love, he can’t hurt you. Come here.” 

You dance around the edge of the room to get close enough to hand John the phone clutched in your hand and then dart back to the doorway. Instead of answering the woman on the line as you expect, John hangs up the call and pockets your phone, looking at you steadily. 

“Our new friend doesn’t want to explain what he’s doing here. You’re going to take 2 minutes before the police arrive and look around. You’re going to tell me anything that’s out of place. I want to know what he’s after.”

You can feel your eyes widening, not expecting to be given a task. You obey and head to your vanity immediately, the jewellery box filled with vintage pieces untouched once you open it for inspection. You frown. You check a few other obvious places, like your spare change jar and find nothing moved. You finally step to your tiny desk, realizing even though you left it messy that someone has tossed your papers around and rummaged through the drawers. 

“The… desk. It’s all… wrong.”

You finally say, frowning at John who’s watching you closely. He nods and jerks his head towards the door. 

“That’s excellent, love. Go wait for the police outside, I’m going to help our guest down the stairs.”

You nod jerkily, a fine trembling taking over your limbs as the adrenaline subsides in your system. You can feel John’s eyes on you as you shakily head back down to wait on the front stoop. You hear the sounds of more scuffling and then a sharp cry of pain, followed by limping steps. When the police show up, you flag them down, leading them into the apartment. John and the stranger are in the living room, the stranger with one more dislocated shoulder than you recall him having only several minutes earlier. You don’t ask, assuming it came about in the struggle with John.

You both have to give statements, the police particularly interested in John and the zip-tie handcuffs. You’re drooping by the time everyone clears out and leaves you two alone in the wrecked apartment. John’s presence is comforting, taking charge of the situation as your energy wanes and reality starts to settle in. He ushers you back up to your room, opening your closet as he speaks.

“Pack a bag love, enough for a few days and anything you don’t want actually stolen. Get your jewellery. You’re staying with me.”

“What? I can’t just…leave my place with the door like that.”

“You can and you will.” John answers evenly, in a tone of voice that doesn’t leave much room for argument. 

You manage to find the energy to argue though, and push back, fisting your hands on your hips.

“John, all my…my whole life is here!”

But he’s already rummaging in your closet, pulling your suitcase out and tossing it on to your bed.

“I’m not having you stay in a place with a damaged and unlockable front door. Absolutely not. No.”

John’s adamant, his big frame mirroring your pose, putting his hands on his hips and facing you. 

“John, I’m an adult –“ 

You try to reason with him, but he won’t hear it. 

“Listen, I get it. I do. But it’s not safe, love. The door has to be replaced. You gotta focus on what matters, and what matters is you being safe. Everything else is just… stuff.”

“But…”

“Listen darling, I love you, but you aren’t fucking staying here and that’s final. Pack your stuff or I will.”

John’s tone brooks no further nonsense. You get the impression that he will physically remove you from the premises if need be. 

Between his admission and sharp words, you’re startled enough to comply without much more of a fight, frowning as you collect your belongings. John hovers at the top of the stairs protectively, watching you shuffle around and organize your suitcase. If you drag your heels and take longer than necessary John doesn’t comment on it, hefting your luggage once you’ve filled it with your selections.   

“This is bullshit.” 

You finally state petulantly as he ushers you back downstairs to his car, wrapping your arms around yourself to hide your trembling. From anger or fear or both you don’t know, exhausted from the adrenaline surges and wild emotions. 

“I know, love.” 

He agrees easily, opening the car door for you and settling your suitcase in the trunk. You watch him wrestle the damaged front door shut as best he can and slide his thumb back and forth over something near the top of the doorframe. He returns to the vehicle, his face drawn with concern. His palm settles on your thigh as he drives, the heat of his body steadying your frayed nerves despite your annoyance. 

Within hours of your arrival at John’s place, his previous evening plans arrive. An old friend, with only a few hours between flights whom he couldn’t divert. You’re polite but tired and escape to John’s room after introductions, crawling into bed. You can hear the rise and fall of their masculine voices down the hall but their conversation is indistinct as you drift in and out of sleep.

His friend is gone by the time John wakes you, crawling in to bed beside you. You hum tiredly as he kisses your temple, sliding his arms around you. 

“Alright, love?” 

He asks lowly, resting his chin against the crown of your head. You press your face into his neck, breathing in his familiar scent before you reply.

“Think so. John?”

“mm?” He tenses slightly, bracing himself.

“Thank you. For being there, tonight. I don’t know what I would have done without you.”

“Anything for you, darling.”

“But don’t talk to me like that again.” 

You follow up your thanks with a reminder that you aren’t used to taking orders. John sighs and runs his fingers through your hair slowly, as if he’s been expecting this.

“I’m sorry, love.” 

To your surprise he doesn’t push back as you expect him to, accepting your displeasure with equanimity. You leave it there, satisfied you’ve been heard. The room is quiet with your slowed breathing, and John stroking your hair, lulling you back to sleep. You don’t bring up what preceded his stern words, too exhausted for any more raw emotions tonight.

The antique store that was placed flush in the middle of the Bowery and Crime Alley had been there for a long time. The front of the shop was worn, the blue paint peeling and the name of the store ('Good Old Fashioned') was written across it in white cursive. Shockingly enough, all the windows were completely intact and the displays featured items such as grandfather clocks, teapots, lamps and jewellery boxes.

Inside of the shop, the walls are lined with bookshelves, filled with novels of varying ages. Small ornaments also decorate the shelves and vintage, well-crafted tables lined the aisles, each holding more items for sale. The floor was lined with handcrafted rugs and the walls that weren't covered in bookshelves held tapestries.

At the front of the shop, lay the counter. Redwood frame, glass on the front and top. Jewellery and watches shone in the display case. A few signs rested on the top along with an ancient cash register.

"No refunds." / "No smoking." / "Don't touch the teal clock."

A girl with purple hair, wearing an old band shirt too worn to see the logo and baggy grey jeans, stood behind the counter. She flicked through an old book lazily.

The Art of Motanka

The current situation made a lot of Ukrainian artists and artisans leave their homes; looking for positives in this tragic situation is the possibility of cultural exchange. With a number of female refugees seeking shelter in my city came Ukrainian heritage and traditions I was not aware of in the southern Poland.

One of them is the art of making a motanka, a traditional home-guarding spirit in the form of a rag doll made without the use of needle or scissors. The doll is faceless, with the woven alatyr (Slavic solar symbol, often found in embroydery), since dolls with faces have their own spirit, and it's a motanka's job to become a guardian and grant wishes. However, one has to welcome it in the house with a small gift of jewellery, ribbons, beads or other small items so that it feels welcomed and perform its duty as a guardian.

I'm still researching the lore and watching tutorials of how to make them, since I've been shaping an idea in my head to make a military/s.t.a.l.k.e.r. motanka.

The ones depicted with and welcomed by my Boys are made by Ukrainian artists and youth as a form of ptsd therapy.

Additionally, I bought a vintage rushnyk from Khmelnytski oblast, hand-embroydered, used to decorate holy icons. Will be used to cover my Chornobyl Spas icon.

Hi everyone!

Thought I’d share my pirate costume for a ren faire I went to last year!!

I thrifted the white undershirt, which I added some string to at the neckline, to get that lace up look.

The skirt is also thrifted, many sizes too big, so I brought it in at the waist and added pleats to get that volume. I also pinned up one side, and added some other skirts underneath to give it some volume.

The lace up vest is entirely handmade and reversible (quite possibly the best item I’ve ever made, I’m insanely proud of it).

To make it, I altered a pattern for a vintage vest, adding a lining and cropping the front pieces to make space for the ribbon details. I used soda tabs to hold the ribbon. I used five per side, but this can be different depending on how you want the ribbon to sit.

I wrapped a scrap of fabric around my waist and added a thrifted belt with a crochet bag handmade by my best friend. I also added a set of dice in a matching colour, as well as some strings of beads I made from thrifted necklaces and charms from past projects.

To make the hat, I found a cheap costume hat and pinned it to the shape I wanted, then covered it in a nicer fabric, using a lot of pleats to emphasise the shape. I sewed lace around the edges, and tucked some feathers behind a thrifted pin on the side.

The final details were *a lot* of gold jewellery for those pirate vibes, and some dagger earrings I bought at an artist market.

This is a very easy costume to thrift, with the details mostly in the layering and colour scheme. And of course, all that gold jewellery!

Did/does keep a lot of mementos? I was thinking about them (RTC) again (as per usual)..

I can answer for both MC and Quinn - in there will be no answer I establish that the only thing that was MC's specifically that Quinn keeps is a leather jacket BUT, Quinn is a massive memonto and trinket keeper. Her bedroom is full of mementos like you can see in this excerpt from chapter 4:

There’s very little empty space on the shelves, though they’re organised in such a way that they don’t look cluttered. They display books, potted plants, and countless knickknacks and keepsakes. Some of them you have seen before; there’s the vintage record player that you’d bought together at a second-hand market fresh out of high school. A jewellery box your mother had gifted to Quinn for her seventeenth birthday. An ugly vase she’d made at a pottery class. But there’s many items that you can’t place; a wall of polaroids full of faces you don’t recognise, a framed travel map with pins in places you’ve never been before. The jewellery box is full of ornate pieces you couldn’t possibly afford, though you can see a woven friendship bracelet you’d made for her in school hanging next to a pair of glimmering earrings that you think might be real diamonds.

Quinn is a memento ass bitch. There's stuff I could say here re: her living in the past (cough cough resisting the current) but I won't make this a million words long.

MC, on the other hand, isn't really like this (now). Seeing all of the above mementos in Quinn's room actually upsets them. Both because it's a harsh reminder how how much Quinn has changed (and, in their mind, moved on) but also because it's a reminder of a past they feel a lot less happy about. They did collect patches on the above mentioned leather jacket that were mementos, but I don't think they'd do it anymore. After some therapy and if they reconciled with their relationship with the past, this could change.

But! MC does like trinkets in some respects! I think I've mentioned a few times that their keys are just absolutely loaded with novelty keychains - there's like, three of those pompom things, a Tamagotchi that's long died from starvation, a bunch of resin ones from various etsy stores, a mini torch, a little and basically useless screwdriver, a bunch of friendship bracelets and scoobies - you get the idea. Also, a million keys. So many keys. MC uses three of them. This keychain could be used to bludgeon someone in an emergency.

Etsy Listing Removals Under The Creativity Standards - How To Appeal

As I detailed last month, Etsy has recently been deactivating quite a few listings under the new-ish Creativity Standards, and is not allowing many sellers any right to appeal. A lot of items have been removed simply because their photos were stolen and used on other sites. Some shops have been suspended, again without any real ability to appeal.

However, some shop owners - including myself - managed to get listings reinstated despite initially being told that was impossible. While there is currently no guaranteed way to force Etsy to look at your evidence their bots erred in some way, there are methods that seem to help, and also some things sellers should never, ever do.

Below, I am sharing my best tips for forcing Etsy to reconsider takedowns and suspensions under the Creativity Standards, as well as ways you can draw attention to this very serious issue.

Step 1: Make Sure The Removal Was Due To The Creativity Standards

There are numerous reasons Etsy might close a shop or place an item in your inactive folder, so don't assume it is a breach of the creativity standards unless Etsy tells you that. For example, sellers often get suspended for perceived risks based on their personal or financial information, or their customer service history.

Even when just a single listing is removed, Etsy may have done this based on the rules in the Prohibited Items policy. There are lots of things that cannot be sold on Etsy, including recalled vintage products, many sex toys, and listings making medical claims. Other reasons for deactivations include legal claims of intellectual property infringement. Those are treated much differently than violations of most other policies, and therefore need a different approach by the seller.

While Etsy does make mistakes, usually the email will state the correct policy. So check that email first before assuming this is about someone stealing your photos.

Step 2: Make Sure Your Item Was Actually Allowed Under The Creativity Standards

This step may sound obvious, but so many rules have changed lately that we are seeing people assuming Etsy is wrong when in fact the shop's listings are no longer allowed. Even if you know your photos were stolen by AliExpress, for example, make sure you take the additional step of being completely sure you have a legitimate reason to appeal.

Etsy used to permit the following items on the site under the previous handmade rules - or sometimes didn't enforce those handmade rules - but now bans the following:

bundles of AI prompts

"mystery boxes" where the contents are truly a mystery - every item must be clearly described

a commercially-made pendant on a commercially-made chain - note that the hand-assembled rules now require using jewellery tools to add a charm to a chain, so just sliding a pendant you bought onto a chain you bought is no longer sufficient.

We've seen all of the above removed, and Etsy will likely get more aggressive in this area in the future.

There is also the issue of mockups being used in the first image when a physical product is shipped and the seller is not using a production partner. Etsy banned that as of July 9, and although I am not aware of any takedowns that were positively due to that rule yet, we should expect it eventually.

Personally, I would not be inclined to appeal a takedown where my listing might have another violation, except maybe when Etsy confirmed that they removed my item because its photo was found elsewhere. It's always best not to call attention to yourself when dealing with Etsy policies.

Step 3: Check To See If You Can File An Automated Appeal

So you are sure that Etsy made an error when they removed your item under the Creativity Standards, or suspended your shop due to multiple such removals. What next?

Etsy has an Appeals page, and when you click on it, it tells you whether or not you have any issues that can be appealed. When Etsy removed my listing, this is what I saw:

So I could not file an automated appeal, and had to open a regular Support ticket.

Suspended shops are more likely to have the official right to appeal, and should appeal through that page if possible.

Step 4: Pull Together All Of Your Evidence

One of the biggest mistakes Etsy shop owners make is automatically appealing as soon as they have an item removed or are suspended. Don't appeal right away. Make sure you have everything you might need - including video of you making the items and of your supply purchases, and proof you have filed legal takedowns for any of your stolen photos elsewhere - before even considering hitting that appeal button. Telling Etsy "I would be happy to provide X" in your appeal is not going to help you; submit everything they could possibly want upfront.

Depending on your situation, you might need:

video of you or your shop members making the item. Showing your supply stock in the video is extra proof

proof of supply purchases - invoices, photos or video of labelled supplies

for stolen photo claims, proof of DMCA takedowns or other copyright removal cases you opened

for stolen photo claims, the original photos before you cropped or otherwise changed them. Having the original data still attached is best

proof you own the other shops or sites where you sold this product and used the photos

any previous correspondence you had with Etsy regarding the affected listings - some shops have the same items removed repeatedly, even after Etsy staff previously admitted the deactivation was an error

for vintage items, proof of age, or certificates of authentication

If you appealed in haste and now realize you forgot something, try to update the information. This may be as simple as adding to an open ticket (which you can do here), or contacting Support through chat or a call back so they can do it for you.

Step 5: Appeal

Once you have collected everything, you are ready to appeal.

If doing this through Etsy's Appeals Center, you will have to answer questions in their format. If you cannot use the Appeals Center, you will need to submit a regular Support ticket using this link for listings. [Shop suspensions should usually have the right to appeal through the Appeals Center.]

Keep it short, professional and factual, and only speak directly to the suspected reasons. Don't tell them the history of your shop, or how much money you lose daily while the listing is deactivated, or how frustrated you are with Etsy. All of those things are valid, but they do not matter to Etsy Trust and Safety. Give yourself the best chance of winning this by being concise and calm. Save the rest for if you have to go public with your complaints.

Which leads us to...

Step 6: Escalate After Etsy Rejects Your Appeal

At the moment, Etsy Support is telling most sellers they cannot appeal listing removals, so almost all tickets opened will receive a boring cut and paste telling you why they can't help and how you need to read the email you received carefully to learn what you did wrong. Of course, that email gave you almost no useful information, so you seem to be back at square one.

Fortunately, there are several different ways you can try to get Etsy to consider your appeal:

Keep trying with Support/Trust and Safety; I was rejected the first 5 times. Stick with one ticket until they close it; only then should you open another. Try live chat on your Shop Manager page (bottom right corner) or request a callback if that option is available to you. [Please note that any phone numbers you find online for Etsy are likely scammers; there is no line to call in. You need to request they call you back.] Mention that Josh Silverman said we could appeal listing takedowns that were due to the reverse image search bot, as I did. Sometimes Support will give you more information about your deactivation, including links to the stolen photos, or links to very similar items they say prove your item isn't handmade. This could be very useful in solving the problem. However, whatever Support says, do not relist the item yourself. Some shop owners have followed Etsy advice to create a new listing and then had those taken down too. Even relisting with different photos can be risky, especially if Etsy has not told you that stolen photos were the issue.

Post a thread in the Etsy forum. Although a moderator will almost certainly close the thread, they also usually escalate your complaint with other departments. I've seen people get help within 24 hours after posting there, although not very often lately.

Go public with your complaint; Etsy hates being called out publicly, especially if the post gets traction. For example, tag Etsy on a post about this on different social networks. LinkedIn has worked for some people. A few sellers got their problem fixed after filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, for some reason. (Even though the BBB has no real power, Etsy seems to take them seriously.)

Try to get media attention. Etsy hates that even more than viral social media posts. Feel free to show them my article.

Get legal advice. Depending on the jurisdiction, there could be significant issues with Etsy removing items and suspending shops without proper notice and accountability. You may be able to report this to government authorities. Some people are reluctant to even look at legal options, but they can sometimes be the best solution to some Etsy problems. Unfortunately, I am not aware of anyone currently willing to take on all of these cases at once, but many areas have free or discounted legal advice for artists and small businesses, so many sellers should be able to find a lawyer if they want one. Call around and ask for referral advice if the first office you reach cannot take your case.

Send a dispute resolution request to Etsy. As part of the arbitration process outlined in Etsy's Terms Of Use (TOUs), members can "send an individualized written notice (“Notice of Dispute”) to disputeresolution@etsy.com that includes (1) your name, phone number, the email address for your account, username and shop name (if applicable), and (2) a description of the Dispute and how you’d like it resolved." While I know people who waited weeks to months to get a response to this, there have also been some recent success stories.

How Can Etsy Shops Avoid Takedowns Due To Stolen Photos?

Let me be clear right off the bat - there is no way to guarantee Etsy will not deactivate your items or suspend your shop over stolen pictures. Since some of the removals have been for selling items similar to those on other sites and not the exact same photos, anyone could be caught by these image bots. It's not even limited to handmade items; some vintage sellers and supply shops have had Creativity Standards takedowns as well.

The most important thing you can do to prevent this is go after as many photo thieves as you can. If you have a small shop, you may be able to do this yourself, doing reverse image searches and filing DMCA/copyright claims. I've found this Chrome extension very useful for tracking down images, because it covers many different reverse image search engines. It's not enough to just look at one, as they all have different results. TinEye, for example, often misses Etsy listings.

If this job seems overwhelming, your other option is to hire someone to do it for you. You can go with an individual agent, or register with an online service such as Pixsy. They will continuously scan for your copied photos, with the first 500 for free. Pixsy is probably the best known company like this, but there are plenty of others out there.

Yes, all of this costs time and/or money. But Etsy doesn't care how much it hurts you. It seems unlikely that the company will roll back this aggressive set of bots doing Creativity Standard removals, or that they will hire more staff to monitor these claims without charging sellers even more for basic services such as Support. So, these are the options available - protect yourself as much as possible, or risk having items removed.

More disturbingly, a seller was recently told that a solution to the problem was not to sell the same items on other online marketplaces:

While this was probably yet another error by first-tier Support, it may actually be Etsy's hidden intent with this issue, even if not a written rule. Etsy now wants to be the destination for unique items; I've written about how that is likely to hurt any shop that is posting items for sale that can be found elsewhere or easily replicated.

It would honestly not surprise me at all if Etsy is taking multiple approaches to whittling down repetitive search results and reducing the number of small sellers on the platform, and the faulty bot removals are an official part of that strategy. Make it harder to sign up for the site, then remove or assign lower rank to any listings that appear to be made of common components or from common designs that can be duplicated by others, even if they follow all of Etsy's rules.

If that isn't the corporation's goal, then Etsy needs to fix this problem now, and provide a timely right to appeal.
